What happened after the Doctor in the photo

"Do you want me to, uh, call someone to be with you or...? Booth asked, risking a glance to the passenger side.

-No, I'm fine...alone." Quiet sobs raked through her body and tears kept coming. She had known that this could not end well; them, together. It could never work, she had told him that much last year but here she was, crying in his car after foolishly acting on impulse...and yet, it had not felt foolish -it had felt right.

The car had come to a halt and Booth cleared his throat not knowing what to do. He was always the one making things easy between them but after her declaration he found himself at his wits' end. He could only hope that just like him she would find a way to keep going in a world where her love was unrequited and that eventually she, too, would find someone to share her life with. Just not him. He could not bring himself to look her in the eyes so he got out of the car and rounded it to open her door. Looking anywhere but at Booth, Temperance slowly slid out of her seat. And here they were; standing face to face on the curb in front of Brennan's house, neither one of them daring to look the other in the eyes. She was the first to interrupt the laden silence.

"I guess I should go. Thank you Booth -for believing me...about Lauren's death.

-Bones..." he muttered although he had no idea what he was going to say next. She had started making her way to her building but at the sound of her nickname she turned around and finally their eyes met. They both stared, lost in thought. Booth could still see the sheen of unhushed tears in her eyes, he could tell she was fighting a new onslaught of tears and he felt strangely untethered. It was not right, it was not fair. A year ago he would have been the man she needed, he had begged her to let him be that man! They would have been good together, more than good.

For years he had believed that them meeting had to be fate, the miracle that put love on his path -now he saw that this was fate, two souls never getting to each other at the right time, bound to miss each other. He loved Hannah, he could see himself having a future with her, here in D.C -her with her work at the White House and him at the FBI working with Bones and the squints... That's the life he wanted.

"I'm sorry, I really am, he trailed off.

-Goodbye Booth..."

She turned her back to him and willed her feet to keep moving. The rain had not let up and she was now soaked to the bone. She did not turn around and he did not stop her. This was really it. She had tried, it would appear she had read the signals all wrong.

Once she crossed the threshold of her house the enormity of it all finally hit her. She expected more tears because surely this meant that their partnership was compromised but nothing came and she was surrounded by the silence of her home. Her gaze trailed over the many artifacts littered all over her apartment, the hundreds and hundreds of books. This was her house; the museum of an impersonal life. She had always been alone so why did it feel different now? It was absurd to think that one could be alone in different ways, either you are alone or you are not and Temperance Brennan was definitely alone, that much had been true before this case, before Booth. She wished she could just go back in time to the days of oblivious loneliness, when she had no real inkling as to what she was missing out on. Damn Booth! Damn him for making her world so messy, so irrational!

Suddenly sadness made way for anger. She had been a fool and now she was paying the price, no doubt she would do so for a long time. What had she expected? For him to leave Hannah and take a chance on a relationship with a woman who had to be faced with the image of an empty life which led to a silent death to finally come to grips with feelings she had harbored for years? He was too fluent in the elusive language of emotions to belong with her in any way.

Even in the sadness induced haziness she could feel that there was something wrong with that statement but she simply did not have the heart to think about it.

She sluggishly got ready for what was undoubtedly about to be a restless night and somewhere between the moment she had removed her shoes and the process of drying of her hair the tears had started back. She did no try to stop them. She would let it all out tonight and then... Well, there was no way for her to infer what Booth would do after the debacle of this night but as far as she was concerned nothing really had to change. She would adapt, she believed there was such a thing as evolution so she would give herself time to evolve, to become a version of herself that did not yearn for the love of her partner, a woman who lived for her job and did not let herself get sidetracked by fragile ties to others. Or maybe she could go back to the Maluku Islands... Angela would be upset, Cam as well no doubt and Booth...evidently she could not trust her intuitions when it came to him so perhaps he would be relieved to see her go; that way they had no reason to face this head on day after day, case after case. And so the hours passed and she kept oscillating between those two options. By the time the sun had risen she was no closer to a decision, her eyes felt swollen from all the crying and her chest felt raw although she knew that it could not possibly from a broken heart, simply a mental state making itself known physically and tiredness getting to her body.

She could not stay in place anymore so she got ready and took off for the lab where she would work, hopefully dulling the ache of Booth's rejection.

The simple act of being in the lab, a place where she knew she belonged seemed to alleviate some of the anguish she felt. This had been an excellent idea. Before she reached the platform Micah appeared out of nowhere -as was his habit.

"How'd it work out? he asked, his trademark benevolent smile fixed on his face.

- I listened to the universe... I felt something. she chuckled, I feel sad.

- That's so much better than dead, or even dead inside."

This made her smile slightly; he was right, at least she had not been run over by that car last night, that had to count for something.

"You heard that in a lecture? she asked somehow soothed by their conversation.

- I got my own story Dr. Brennan. Just like you, just like everybody else... I got my own sad story."

She pondered over this for a while and when she came back to her senses Micah was gone, no doubt she would see him again later in the day. She made a beeline for her office intending to put the Lauren Eams case to rest and find some other task to throw herself into head first. The file was strewn open on her desk, she took a deep breath, bracing herself. Temperance picked up the photograph that had knocked her world off its axis and saw things clearly for the first time since the beginning of this whole ordeal.

"Three days, she whispered to herself. Three days for the world to turn right side up again."

Everything was supposed to be back to normal now but she was still sad and painfully aware of how alone she was. So this was the new normal huh? She hated that just like she could now see Lauren's face for what it truly was she could not make herself forget about the feelings she had excavated from the depth of herself last night. Perhaps such was the price of a renewed life in the world right side up: clarity. Her life had not changed, not in its core but now her eyes saw more clearly what it had chosen to ignore up until then. She was not Dr. Lauren Eams, she was alive, she loved Booth,he loved Hannah. Those were the facts. She could live with those facts and soon she would get over it -he had gotten over her. She would give herself seven months and then...well, she would cross that bridge when she came to it.

In the safety of her office she finally understood what had bothered her last night. Booth and her did belong together! Not as lovers but as colleagues, as partners. This was not some sort of irrational belief in the notion of fate but a conclusion drawn from experience: their team was incredibly efficient and they all worked well together. If nothing she else she could hold on to that with all her might. Their work together was too important to throw it all away because her heart was crushed.

Here we have a sequel to my werewolf, alternate season two and beyond fic from last year’s CSSNS. You probably want to read that story "Run to Me (in the Dead of Night)" first, or it might be a bit confusing in places. This second story in the same universe partially exists just because I wanted to revisit these couples and enjoy a bit more of their fluffy happily ever afters. However, we may also see them get into some new surprises and challenges, and of course we need to see if Rumplestiltskin is still under control or back to his usual scheming and plotting. I hope you will enjoy. I’m so glad to be part of this event again, and this is just the opening chapter.

Good Man vs Nice Guy Trope

Here we go for modest meta about Lotor and Lance from VLD and why Lotor have more elements to belong to the good man trope than the reformed bad guy trope. We will analyze their backgrounds, the way they treat women and how they behave with their love interest Allura.

Lets start with Lotor

Lotor and women

Different of his previous incarnations, Lotor views women as equals and demonstrate a professional behavior with them. What is an indication that even in society build up by the violence Lotor found out a way to avoid succumb to the toxic masculinity of the galra culture. By the way, we can assume that Lotor spent his life trying to connect with his "female side", since he didn't have a mom to show him this aspect of himself. This is an interesting interpretation that somehow have parallel with DOTU Lotor, who kinda wanted to connect with his female side (his anima) through Allura. The loss of Lotor mom in DOTU is significant to his development as a typical evil emperor embodying the bad parenthood of Zarkon and distorted ideia of affection that prevent him of gain any kind of affection Allura. But VLD Lotor seems doesnt have such problems since he always rejected galras methods and pick an imaginary idea of his dead mom as a model of leadership. What cost a lot to him as we see.

Lotor and Allura dynamic

Lotor's approach to Allura is based in political issues. They both want to stop the war, they both know they need each other knowledges to achieve their objective. Of course Lotor could had use other weapons to conquer Allura sympathy since he is a good looking guy with classy modes. But he interesting in Allura is profissional. What means they just talk about business after she agree to cooperate with him. As long the season 5 run they both start to make moves to turn this alliance more personal.

-Lotor trust in Allura potencial as alchemist and encourage her to stop with her insecurities and believe more in herself. In a context where her subordinates (like Lance) are continuously question her decisions and a serie of events shot her down to prove she is wrong, follow instincts become a great change to her. And thanks Lotor, for good or for bad, she unblocked a lot of abilities that help her to salve her friends (like bring Shiro and Lance back) and in ending to the series salve the whole universe.

- After a time Allura begin to trust Lotor and be kind with him. Recognize his efforts to keep the altean culture alive and she say she is happy to have him by her side in this journey. That is a big complement to him, not just because she the altean princess but because Lotor get credits for achievements, and this probably is the first time someone acknowledged him.

-Their dreams about the future match and they view each as partners.

Meanwhile Lance...

Well, we have to admit the way he try to get Allura attention is not nice. She is busy with important stuff while Lance is playing his role as "adorable flirty idiot". And the thing is, he keep doing this even when she make pretty clear she doesnt like this behavior. Worse, he use this approach with other girls, what seems to me that even he wasnt take this crush seriously until Lotor arrive.

People usually excuse Lance behavior saying he is just being childish, and like a small child Lance have difficult to put himself other people shoes. Allura came from a extinct planet and apparently she and Coran are the last of their kind, is it an emphatic atitude make fun of her culture and habits? She already have a lot of pressure in her, is it okay question her leader decision since she have more war acknowledges than you? What is your excuse to be angry and prevent other guys to be nice with her (aka Matt and Lotor) just because she doesn't value your compliments?

And when you daydream about a future with your crush is it a good picture?

Funny thing, cause Lotor killed Zarkon, his own freaking father and no one give him glory for this. And even after that it take a time to him win Allura heart, not because he killed but because he was a good man who treat her right! Why the hell HE, Lotor, had to be portrayed as an evil guy when all he did in their time together was improve Allura as caracter and vice versa?

Why it never across in Lance s mind that maybe, just maybe, Allura liked Lotor because he feels like home to her. Why Lance bring Allura to a date with his whole family when the right atitute would be help her with that altean and give her hope that maybe she could be with her people again? Why didn't Lance encourage Allura to be more brave? Why keep this "I would do anything for you" instead to "Allura, you can do anything. You will get it!"

Why? Why? Why? Because Lance is unable to take her place, to truly understand how she feel. Being hated by your own people after years? Guess who would understand this...

Good man narrative is centric in supportive relationship where both caracter bring the best of each other.

Hello again my dear friend. Your very own SSS is back with questions regarding your gift(s). I was actually wondering how you feel about au's fics. Do you like them? And if yes, do you have a favorite one? And after that please tell me your favorite hc about all of the ships you love and you have included in your ship list. I would like to know more about them and how you see them all.

Oh, I love AUs! I love the what if stories that explore a canon divergence or a similar but different path due to some one change (although I don’t like swap fic like swap lock with Molly as the consulting detective, just no.). I also love the AR like Potter’verse for Sherlolly, Victorian, Pirate, Medieval, Regency etc. I love AUs they allow to explore the characters in a new way. It’s also tricky to keep them in character but some leeway is always allowed ;) I love arranged marriage and marriage of convenience trope a lot.

Oh, my, hc for my beloved ships, well I think I listed a lot of them XD ok, here it goes: (I think it’s more view/feelings bout them than hc per se, sorry!)

MCU:

Pepper/Tony - I think it’s all about her quiet but unmovable support of him and yet the ability to call his bullshit. (sounds familiar, doesn’t it? I have a type I suppose). And once he realises what he has he’ll do everything to protect her. That scene in Iron Man 2, when instead of taking to armour onto himself he puts it on her… Yes, those two are just perfect. As for hc, I like to think that Pepper was already pregnant at the end of Avengers 3, so when Tony returns (and I don’t accept any other option, Marvel, you hear, they deserve a happy ending!), There’s going to be small little being (I’m leaning toward a daughter) around Pepper’s legs to greet him as well. :)

Peter/MJ - Oh, this is my OTP since my childhood as I’ve always loved Spider-Man. I love the new dynamics in MCU, and I cannot wait to see their romance. My fav part is that she’s eventually aware of his true identity and supports him (see, a type, I tell you). In the animated version from the mid 90s their story was quite a tragic one and I think I liked it a lot too.

Gamora/Peter aka Starlord - Oh my, they are two hurt by harsh life, wary people, especially Gamora, and their romance was such a sublime precious thing. Not overtly done but there. And how he managed to win her over, how reluctant she was but he persisted first with steadfast friendship then something more (once again sounds familiar, doesn’t it?). I cried like a baby while watching Avengers 3, both times. I also cry at the Guardians Movies (yes, the movies, both of them, because they are about friendship and family above all else). Guardians are my top favourite movies of the whole franchise, duh,

Steve/Natasha - Here it’s a little tricky because I’m a little multishipper for those two. Steve/Peggy was a tragic romance that pulled at my heartstrings, but I really wouldn’t want it to be revisited, tbh, I liked how star-crossed they were. I definitely do NOT ship Steve with Peggy’s niece (was it?), nope, no feelings about them whatsoever. But, Natasha… Now, Winter Soldier, and ever since… There is such a potential for those two. They work so well together. Yes… And once again it’s about her quiet but efficient support of him. Burce/Natasha didn’t do anything for me, sorry. But I was intrigued byt Natasha/Clint and kinda shipped them until we learnt about Clint’s family. I love that he had a family.

Harry Potter

Harry/Hermione - God, this ship. This is my OTP. Only Sherlolly rivals it as my OTP. Atm, Sherlolly is top one, but Harmione is close by and I still revisit the fandom just for the two of them. I love that they are such a close friends. The trust between them in unmovable, unshakable; she follows him and supports him, but isn’t afraid to call his bullshit, he encourages her and is there for her, he was the first one to see her as someone with feelings (it for sure wasn’t Ron no matter how much I love the redhead). He taught her to see past books and cleverness, he taught her about friendship and love. And she was onle of the very few and probably the very first one who saw him just as Harry (it took time for Ron and way too long for Ginny, to lose the fangirl/fanboy attitude). I love how complementary they are. For me they are perfect. I like to hc they have always been in love with each other just didn’t realise it at first. I like to imagine that post war, instead of the epilogue, all the characters managed to truly find themselves which led to a more suited pairings (for me the series ends before the epilogue obviously ;)

Ron/Luna - I have a major issue with Ron and Hermione and it’s how he treats her. I’m sorry but he always belittles her and she does the same to him! But for me, Luna has a lot of Hermione’s traits (inteligence for once), but never bellitled Ron, but always supported him. Hermione does it too, of course, and yet Luna’s support seems more like a fuel for Ron to reach his potential. Hermione will always be better than Ron and for Ron who always craved greatness it’s a huge thing to overcome. But Luna seems to follow her dreams yet support Ron in his. That’s how I have always seen them. That’s what is my hc.

Neville/Ginny - I definitely prefer this pairing for Ginny. It’s mostly because once again I felt that Ginny’s support could have helped Neville become the man he could be (thankfully he managed it without her, but before book 7, I always felt she could be the key for Neville and it stayed with me), I always felt that his quiet nature and less flamboyant self would be a lot more calming for her fiery temperament than Harry ever could…

Draco/Ginny - Here I am for the fiery combination of the two XD I also like a redeemed Draco theme. And sometimes ship him in a onesided Dramone too. I also like their kinda Romeo/Juliet situation.

Lucius/Narcissa - that ship took me by surprise, tbh! I’ve read a couple of fabulous Harmione fics with them, and two of the greatest broke them apart making them more an arranged polite pairing than anything else and I realised I actually ship them as in love. I don’t know why, I just like the idea of them, even being on the wrong side of the light, to still being able to experience love. In the end it was that love that redeemed them. Sometimes I like to hc they fell in love after they were arranged.

Remus/Tonks - the way she fought for him, and in the end their true love won. Even if for a short while before being cut of tragically. I like that they are actually quite an unusual pair and because of their age difference too. Sometimes I like to hc that if they survived they’d struggle as a married couple but overcome all the obstacles and learn how to be truly happy together

Bones

Booth/Brennan - this is another major OTP for me. I love their friendship, mutual, trust, support, their ability to compromise and being opened to the other and their life/word view. Their love story was the greatest feature of the whole show. It was so nice to see them reach a happy ever after and live through it. I love how they both grown as characters thanks to this wonderful relationship they shared over the years. And how faithful, how loyal to each other they have always been.

Angela/Hodgins - this is another story of true love can prevail everything. God, she was such a free spirirt, it looked like he didn’t stand a chance, but his persistence, his love for her, his support as she were with someone else after their break-up, and then their happiness. God, I love them so much. And I want a Hodgins of my own ;)

Sweets/Daisy - they were so cute as a silly version of Booth/Brennan. They also learned a lot about themselves and each other during their relationship. They grew both as characters and as a couple. And I really liked it.

How To Train Your Dragon

Hiccup/Astrid - first of all they are friends. And based on that, they support each other, trust each other, back up each other, but also talk and point out flaws. I like to hc they’d have always ended up together.

Ruffnut/Fishlegs - this one is a tricky one as it’s only fanon based. But I like the idea of Ruff, who is a wild spirit, and Fishlegs who is the scholary type, to find some kind of connection and appreciation. It’s a little similar to Neville/Ginny I suppose. I really love them, and how they could truly balance each other.

Anne with an E

Gilbert/Anne - oh, I have always shipped them, but in this version it’s all about his devotion. He’s so completely in love with her. They also try to be friends and support each other and be there for each other and I think that’s wonderful.

BBC Sherlock:

Sherlolly - oh, my. I think the thing about them for me is their mutual trust and a certain tender approach toward each other. I think that Molly is the only one who truly sees Sherlock as a man and not the Sherlock Holmes and it’s something that’s very attractive to Sherlock, very addictive and that’s why he can be himself with her, and show his vulnerability. There is also a lot of respect between them in their quiet companionship. I also like that they are kinda hidden from everyone else. Only the audience truly knows what really goes between them and that’s very precious to them. I like how they support each other. They work together, they trust each other even if they don’t like what they see. But they work together.

Warstan - Mary is just perfect match for John. They work so well together. I hate that John almost threw it all away. It shows he’s human but it was a very painful plot. I like to hc, that Mary would have eventually forgiven him, but he would have to really work to get her trust back. I will also dare to say, that maybe there were some huge issues on both sides to work through and John’s wayward thoughts toward E were a result of that. Don’t get me wrong, he was the one who did an awful thing. But maybe Mary wasn’t such a saint either, after all she left him and Rosie without a second thought (to protect them sure), but she wasn’t willing to work with John. Maybe she subconsciously pushed him away? Maybe she was afraid of his reaction based on how badly he took the news about her past? It doesn’t change the fact that both were at fault and didn’t have enough time to work through their issues. They were faulty real people and that’s what I love about them. I wish I could see more of them and their fight for their happiness.

Mythea - Once again an example of a ship with a woman supporting a man. I like to think he is very protective of her but also kinda shy about his feelings. I don’t know, I see him also viewing himself as unworthy of her affections. While she is kinda helplessly in love with him. In the end they take their heads of their arses and have their happily ever after. I like to hc that Anthea’s been moved away from Mycroft to protect her and maybe because they did start a relationship and she was on maternity leave so that’s why we didn’t see her in s4 ;)

How would you analyze Barba's final speech to Olivia?

OH BOY BUCKLE UP.

first, i think it’s a truly beautiful speech and it’s the speech of a shipper’s dreams. i don’t understand why he had to move on and I think that’s more the showrunner’s need to idk get rid of every ada that isn’t stone, given the whole mess with cabot recently. I won’t get into that here, but just a friendly neighborhood observation.

onto what you came for.

personally, i think barba knew how he felt for liv for a very long time and never thought she would feel the same way towards him. she was with cassidy when they met, broke up with cassidy, was alone, and then secretly got together with tucker. (not secretly got together but barba was left out of that information even though they were best friends.) they were a bit on edge during that time because of the events of community policing (which i think is where a lot of future angst comes from) and she didn’t tell him. she hid it and didn’t trust him enough until he had figured it out on his own. from there, they continue to be rocky for a long time and i don’t think they get their groove back until towards the end of s18. in s19 they are a lot closer but it’s still nothing major. they don’t go out often and she turns him down more often than not to spend time with noah. he understands that but i think he would just read that as a sign of it’s never happening.

so, when his world shatters and he doesn’t know who he is he just has to give this speech. he has to tell her without telling her and i think that’s the main part of that speech. it’s beautiful. it’s telling her how she’s made him a better person and she’s made his life better. just by existing. she doesn’t owe him anything but her mere place in this world is what makes him better.

but, he can’t hold onto something that isn’t there. whether it’s not really there or it’s her not coming forward with her own feelings is up to personal interpretation and I think relies mostly on what you do or do not ship.

the whole thing reminds me so much of bones when during the 100th ep where booth lays it out on the line, but brennan can’t do it so he says he has to move on and she gets it. the major difference is they still work together but grasping at something that isn’t there and won’t be there is too self sacrificing and someone can only do that for so long.

in barba’s mind he needed to find a way to be happy and I think that meant taking some space from liv. i don’t believe he could live without her forever but maybe just for now. he needs some space in order to get some perspective.

i also think it’s meant to signify him going to make the world a better place outside of being an ada. throughout s19 you see him getting frustrated and the law can only do so much. it wouldn’t surprise me if we see him, one day, trying to put in real change. he is liv now. it’s not simple anymore. it’s not black v white. it’s not legal v illegal. he’s been touched so heavily by these victims and if real change is going to come it’s not going to be from him just being an ada.

this is so long but one last thing about the “you’ve opened my heart” line. such a confession but also, he can feel things for someone. maybe he didn’t for so long he just thought it wouldn’t happen or he was so busy with his work that it wasn’t a priority. i don’t believe it’s a priority now but he can find true fulfillment in his work and maybe finding someone to share his life with. it’s not one or the other.

I don’t even know what to say right now. What can I really say at this point? I knew last night’s episode would leave me absolutely sick with grief. I know in the back of my mind that there is more to come. And I don’t even need to rely on faith to know that next week will be incredible. That our characters will overcome and prevail. That they will finally find peace. But sadly, I also know that I will be left a broken shell of a human being. With my life in ruins.

It’s exceedingly painful for me to consider life without this show. It’s why I had no choice but to force myself to live in the land of denial for so long. Otherwise, I would lose all ability to function. And I needed to function. I needed to get my life as in order as it was going to get before all this hit. I get that not everyone feels this way. Some are relieved to see it go (can’t relate). Some are sad but simultaneously excited to see how it all comes together in the end. And some are passengers in my rocky boat. It’s quite hard to articulate, really. I know there are those understand precisely what I’m talking about without much explanation. But all I ask is that for anyone who thinks I am defective for declaring that this show has brought me a happiness I never thought I would experience, please respect these feelings. Because as foreign as they may seem, they are genuine. I will sound like a broken record in saying that this show is the most wonderful thing to ever happen to me. Bones saved me. I mean that in more ways than one. And I mean that both literally and figuratively. I’ll leave it at that. And not only that, it truly inspired me. It gave me hope. It changed me and my life. It made me want to do better and be better. The impact it has had on my life has been immeasurable. It has never, not once, been just a television show. It’s not just anything. It is a beacon of hope in a world full of despair. It is my guiding light. It is my everything. And it is my home. It will live on. Through its legacy. Through its fans. For eternity.

Bones is also the worst thing that has ever happened to me. Because life without Bones is not something I know or want to experience. Again, I ask anyone who believes me to be dramatic to please try to at least understand that we cannot help who and what we love. Though given the choice, I don’t think I could have done anything differently. I don’t believe in fate. Ludicrous. And yet, this show feels like my destiny. The love of my life. I cannot tell you where I would be without it. Well physically, at the very least, on the other side of the country suffering. Trying to stay alive. Lost. Attempting and failing to find meaning in some facet of my own existence. I have had innumerable interactions with people who look at me like an extraterrestrial from Mars when they realize just how significant and all-consuming this passion is. I make no apologies for who I am. Been there done that. This is just me. I would imagine that so many showrunners, writers, and actors dream of creating art that can touch others in such a profound way. You are never going to please everyone with your work. But if you can conceive of a story that inspires an audience in such poignant ways as Bones did for so many, is there anything more rewarding? For so many years I wanted to give up. But I’d think about the lessons I learned from this show. I’d think of the characters and what they would do in my position. And I was able to push myself harder. Keep going. Not only survive, but flourish at times. And even when I felt as though I had hit rock bottom, I’d pick myself up off the ground and push through. Because it’s what they taught me to do.

But now I feel irreparably broken. Will I be able to pick up the pieces and put myself back together again after next week? I need to once again turn to the show. Because none of them would ever give up. And they have been to hell and back, time and time again. And they have persevered.

I don’t know what the purpose of this post really is. I just needed to say something. Anything. I spent the entire night staring at the ceiling, sobbing and shaking. I can’t even process. But I will say a few things: Last night’s episode was so beyond my wildest dreams. It takes a lot to shock me. Because I expect Bones to impress me each and every week. I’m used to it. Everyone’s a critic. Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion. But I am just always thankful to have these characters on my screen week after week, that I choose to see the positive in every episode. So that is why you will never see me profess anything but love after an episode. Perhaps I wasn’t engaged with every detail. But again, I choose to focus on what made me smile, what made me gasp, what caused me tears, and the words and moments which inspired me. With this episode- every single second was complete and utter genius. I loved every last millisecond of this episode.

When I first realized how they were going about telling this story, I was awestruck. Bones STILL manages to surprise me. How? It’s season 12. HOW are they doing this?? While I was in hysterics during most of the episode, it was also one of the most wonderful hours of television I’ve ever seen. I’ve spent my life watching television. I have watched nearly every show that people constantly rave about. I work in television, and I see the way my coworkers stare blankly at me when they realize Bones is my favorite show (well, it’s SO much more than a show). But even if I didn’t, even if this was the only series I ever watched, I am entitled to have this opinion. This show is so incredibly underrated. It always has been. It takes a lot of flack. Even from its fans. And it never quite got the recognition it deserved. To me, it is perfect. I’m not objective. I don’t have to be.

Bones could go on for another decade. I think that’s what kills me most. To have an episode like that as your 245th hour- it’s beyond impressive. I never expected the show to go out quietly. And I know that the writers wouldn’t have done anything they believed to be devoid of the utmost quality. Still- they managed to up the ante once more. It was out-of-the-box, for sure. And this storytelling device worked so seamlessly for this episode. I simply cannot heap enough praise on it. I watched most of the episode through a foggy filter comprised entirely of my own unrelenting tears. But I was on the edge of my bed seat the whole hour. It went from happy, to humorous, to terrifying, to devastating over and over again. My emotions were pulled every which way. And by the end, it felt like my heart was ripped from my chest. I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t think. All I could do was curl up in the fetal position and sob until I ran out of energy. And then I would begin again. It was a restless night.

I don’t love feeling this way by any means. But it’s a testament to the brilliance of these characters and this show. Because I truly care about them. I care about what happens to them. They are my family. They are a part of me. And though I know everything will ultimately be okay, seeing them in peril hurts. Every. Single. Time. This show affects me. Why would I want to watch a show in which I am not fully invested like this. I like that Bones has this power over me. That said, it’s not easy.

We always knew there would be a bomb. We knew that the Jeffersonian would undergo a very painful transformation. But how we got to that point still somehow managed to throw me. Seeing those four original beloved characters trapped in the lab at the end, I felt sick to my stomach. This is where it all began. This place. And seeing the Jeffersonian in ruins (in the promo), it just feels like the physical manifestation of my mind and heart right now. This place which was a home to Temperance Brennan, among others, for so many years. It’s destroyed. We will never see it intact again. Well, never say never. But it will never be quite the same. Someone wanted to destroy Booth and Brennan. And everything and everyone they hold dear. It’s heart-wrenching. But in Bones, the good guys always win. And they will. I have never been more certain of anything in my entire life.

Brennan will be fine. We already know that. But the promo still made me want to crawl into a hole and die. The way Booth begs her to stay with him. They are the purest and most fulfilling love story I will ever have the pleasure of witnessing. And there is nothing they cannot overcome. Their lives have been hanging in the balance a dozen times. But you can’t break them. Never.

I wouldn’t say I’m in denial any longer. But it still all doesn’t feel real. Maybe my brain is just trying to protect me. They can say “final” as many times as they want, but I simply cannot believe it. What is a world without Bones? I don’t remember. I just remember it was nothing to write home about. Not a world I want to live in.

This episode gave us so much. And everything was brilliantly packed into just 43 minutes. I don’t know how they did it. But I felt so fulfilled. Every single one of the main characters had so many wonderful moments. Nothing felt rushed at all. The Zack arc was resolved so believably. And it wasn’t even the focal point of the episode! We had some absolutely precious moments with the Booth children. We learned Angela and Hodgins will be having another child. Cam and Arastoo were just beaming with happiness. Cam is even taking a six month honeymoon. Who would have thought? Aubrey and Jessica, well, maybe that is no longer a packaged entity. But he will be fine, no matter what choice he makes about his future. There are so many moments I want to touch on. And I’m sure I will. Eventually. When I can process it all. Angela and Brennan had the loveliest of exchanges in this episode. Multiple ones. In multiple settings. Booth and Brennan, don’t get me started on that hug in Brennan’s office. Essentially the last time we will ever see her office as is. Her sanctuary. I can’t even...Booth and Brennan’s hugs mean more to me than anything. Well, everything about them means the world. They are so in love. It’s electrifying. Those two will always be lightning in a bottle. And don’t get me started on their dancing. I couldn’t love them more. No really, I couldn’t.

I feel sick right now. I feel empty but full. Empty because I don’t know the meaning of life without this show. And I am completely drained after going through the full gamut of emotions. Full because this show has given me more than I have ever dreamed of. As did this episode.

Sometimes a show is just a show. For many people, television is just a hobby. But always remember that for some, that show you casually watch may mean more than anything. Some fans love a show. And some credit a show for saving them. I am the latter. So many of us are. And maybe that’s a foreign concept to grasp. But it’s valid. To anyone else suffering the way I am, I understand what you are feeling. I truly do. I don’t know how I will get through this when all is said and done. I can’t imagine a world without my beloved savior. But I can’t think about that just yet. While the end of this episode + the promo destroyed any hope of semi-normalcy for the next few days, I still have the opportunity to say there’s more to come. More Booth. More Brennan. More Angela and Hodgins. More Cam and Aubrey. More Bones.

I don’t exactly know what I hoped to accomplish here. Basically I just needed to vent. Because I feel so lost right now. So alone. So hopeless. So broken. I am scared for myself. But for now, I need to take Angela’s advice and live in the moment. I need to take Booth’s advice and keep fighting. And I need to live by Brennan’s words: Inertia demands that you keep going. I need to find a way to keep going. I don’t know how yet. But we will see.

Knowing what I know now, would I do it all again? Would I allow myself to watch the pilot, knowing full well that this show would take over my life? Change it completely? Mold the person I would become? Cause me stress and pain through all the uncertainty, cruel messages, ENDLESS HIATUSES, and ridicule from almost everyone in my life? Yes. I would do it all again. Because to experience those moments of pure joy that Bones has brought me was worth it all. I am a better person because of this show. I don’t know that I’d be here writing this without it. Do with that what you will. It was never JUST a show. It is my world.

To end this on a more positive note- If i ever picked favorite episodes (and I never do, and couldn’t ever) this episode would be on that list. Simply a masterpiece. Perfection. Everything.

Deja Dead Playlist

Deja Dead by Katy Reichs is about a forensic anthropologist named Temperance Brennan. Brennan has just gone through a heartbreaking divorce and transferred to a new lab in Montreal. Things were pretty normal until a series of corpse starting coming into the lab. The question starts to raise wheatear or not there is a serial killer in town. There are serval themes throughout the book. Themes of love, family, loss, death, and friendship. Each character contributes to these themes whether it's because of their actions or simply by their natural being. The playlist is broken down into five parts. Each part is dedicated to a character and an event that has taken place in the book. In honor of the time the book took place and the time it was published all song is from the 80's and 90s.

Part 1: The first part is Temperance Brennan. Throughout the book, Brennan expresses her feelings towards her ex-husband. Brennan view on love for him changes over time. The first song is Tearin' up my heart By Nsync. This demonstrates how Brennan feels towards her ex-husband. She had felt sad about her break up but she knew she that she couldn't go back to him. This portrays a negative feeling of a theme of love Brennan is feeling. Brennan wants to be with her ex-husband but whether she is with him or not, he causes her pain. This relates to more a negative side of the theme of love in the book.

Another song that portrays the theme of love is Love takes time by Mariah Carey. Similar to Nsync song. This song is about losing someone you love. In the book, Brennan didn't want to be alone and she was very upset at the fact she couldn't be with her ex-husband. She had no one to love and she felt that no one loves her. Comparing this to the lyrics,

Losing my mind

From this hollow in my heart

Suddenly I'm so incomplete

Lord I'm needing you now

Tell me how to stop the rain

Tears are falling down endlessly

This can relate to when Brennan was all alone. She heard nothing from her best friend Gabby, her daughter was upset with her and Claudel did not believe her about there being a serial killer. She needs her ex-husband. She had cried all night in her pillowcase they had bought together but she knew she couldn't be with him. She longed for him. This showing the negative theme of longing for love and the unhealthy relationship Brennan has with love.

The third song that relates to Brennan is What about your friends By TLC. Brennan and Gabby have a rocky friendship in the book. Gabby and Brennan got into a lot of fights which left Brennan questioning if Gabby really cares about her.

What about your friends, will they stand their ground,

Will they let you down again?

What about your friends, are they gonna be low down,

Will they ever be around,

Or will they turn their backs on you?

Well, is it me, or can it be I'm a little too friendly

These lyrics relates to Brennan wondering if Gabby actually cares about her. This shows a less positive side to the theme of Friendship in the book. Gabby was not answering the phone and did not speak to Brennan for weeks. This made Brennan cold and resent her friend. This ended up Brennan losing trust in her friend.

The fourth song is Me and Bobby Mcgee By Janis Joplin. Brennan had sung this song when she and Gabby had a terrible fight. Brennan knew that her relationship with Gabby has changed. This relates to the failing friendship Gabby and Brennan have. Brennan is upset about it because she does not want the friendship to end but she knows it might be a possibility. This is another example of friendship in the book.

The fifth and final sing for Brennan is Torn by Natalie Imbruglia. This song is about a girl who loves a guy. Everything was great until he started to become distant. Although this song is about a romantic relationship, it relates to Brennan's relationship with her daughter. Near the middle of the book, Brennan and her Daughter start fighting. This relates to how Brennan feels about her daughter going off to another country with a boy. Brennan does not know what to do. She feels torn because she does not want her daughter to do so but Brennan has done the same as her.

Part 2: The second part is Gabby. Gabby is a carefree soul who can't stay in one place at a time. The first song is Poison by Bell Biv Dervoe. This is more about Gabby's character as a whole. Gabby can't commit to a place maybe because she knew she was being followed by someone. Gabby knew she was putting people in danger. The lyrics relate to how Gabby isn't good to be around. She stays in one place before for a little bit but then quickly moves knowing she can't stay. Even if she really wants to.

The second song is Drive by Incubus. Gabby and Brennan were fighting most of the book but Brennan doesn't understand why. Gabby was actually trying to protect Brennan. The song Drive is about a person being there for their friend or lover no matter what.

These lyrics relate to how much Gabby loves Brennan and how she will be there for Brennan no matter what.

The third song is Une Princesse est Morte by KDD. This is a French song. Which is not on Spotify. This song is very political and talks about the struggle of the human race falling apart. This song reminds me of Gabby. Brennan was constantly reminded of Gabby whenever she has seen something that goes against the public norm. Much like this song, I connect gabby to being the princess and everything falling apart because she is no longer living.

The fourth and five songs are Dancing Queen by Abba and This is how we do it by Montell Jordan. These to song relate to Gabby's personally. When Gabby was not being followed, she was pretty happy and carefree. These two songs show how fun Gabby was. She tried to her best to be the cool friend for Brennan. She would remind Brennan to be herself and to not worry about life all the time.

Part four: The fourth part is the killer. The killer is a unique character. He is talked about a lot in the book and makes an appearance but we never know who he truly is until the end of the book. The killer had an unhealthy obsession with the girl he had killed. He especially had a thing for Brennan. All five song for the killer are love songs in the eyes of the killer but to everyone, this is an unhealthy form of love. These collation of song show a theme of unhealthy love in the book that the killer had. The song Every breath you take by The Police reminds me of the killer following Brennan and Gabby.

Knowing the killer went out of his way too hurt Brennan really stood out to me when I was listening to this song. The hook of the song really relates to what the killer was doing to them.

Part Five: The final part is about Claudel. In the book, Claudel is known as Brennan's enemy. They buttheads a lot and really hate each other. These five songs relate to Claudel's personality and the way he treats other. All five songs are about being either physically tough or mentally tough. Claudel has to be tough because he is an FBI agent. He can't let his emotions get in the way. Claudel is also a jerk and a show-off. He acts like he is the best but he may know that's not the case. The song Wanted Dead or Alive by Bon Jovi really relates to Claudel’s mindset. The lyrics,

It's all the same, only the names will change

Every day, it seems we're wastin' away

Another place where the faces are so cold

I drive all night just to get back home

This relates to how Claudel lives his life as an FBI agent. He sees dead bodies every day and has to talk to their loved ones. It is an everyday thing for Claudel. Another song that relates to Claudel is Dans un aurte monde by Celine Dion, which also not on Spotify. Can relate to how Claudel is just a survivor. He does not get too close to anything or anyone.
