Favorite character: Probably Pearl, if I’m honest. Amethyst is a very close second, though. 

Least Favorite character: Lars, before he really got character development. He was just kind of a jerk and I never liked seeing him. Not gonna put characters like Marty or Kevin, cause I think using hate sinks is kind of cheating.

5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): Gregrose, Rupphire, Adult Connverzuli, Bispearl, and Pearlrose

Character I find most attractive: Young Vidalia

Character I would marry: No one, really. 

Character I would be best friends with: Peridot, honestly. I get the feeling we’d get along pretty well, probably bond over TV shows.

a random thought: This show had the weirdest airing schedule of any series I had ever seen, including Avatar, which was basically a meme for a while regarding how much the last season’s premiere kept getting pushed back.

An unpopular opinion: Garnet’s solo songs and her solo verses in the group songs, are actually among the songs I like the least. Estelle definitely has a beautiful voice, but the style of the songs just doesn’t usually appeal to me. 

My Canon OTP: Probably Gregrose.

My Non-canon OTP: Technically it’s probably more of an OT3 and I’ll admit it’s a crackship....but I’ve honestly been hooked on like, a sort of romance-only, borderline queerplatonic Adult Connverzuli for years and I’m not likely to ever let it go. And yes, I know it’s controversial.

Most Badass Character: I kinda feel like Steven is objectively the most badass?

Most Epic Villain: Spinel, if you ask me. Girl literally had her apparent defeat be part of her plan.

Pairing I am not a fan of: If I’m honest, probably any Jasper ships are equally not something I’m personally into. 

Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): Not so much screwed up, but I do sometimes wish the whole situation with reveling that Pink Diamond/Rose Quartz was a very complicated Gem had been handled a little better? I’m not a big fan of her going from basically treated as perfect to making her sound like completely horribel, especially considering a lot of people use the latter to demonize her instead of treat her like just a flawed person.

Favourite Friendship: Probably Connie and Steven, but I also have a strong soft spot for “Beach Summer Fun Buddies”.

Character I most identify with: Amethyst, with Steven and Lapis following close behind.

Character I wish I could be: Amethyst. Granted, part of that is because I already identify with her, plus I gotta be real, as someone who is nonbinary, I just want shapeshifting powers, which Amethyst definitely has.

I don’t personally enjoy shipping Greg with the Gems (I’ve made a couple of jokes about him and Amethyst banging once, but that’s about it) but I’m not here to complain about ships or send hate, y’know?

As for Gregrose… I think it wasn’t the healthiest. It’s like Greg said- neither Rose or Greg knew basically anything about each other’s past. Greg was a young and dumb 20-yr-old who unknowingly plunged into Gem history, and Rose was... Rose. No one was like her. She didn’t even want to be like her. 

I don’t doubt they loved each other! I just think it was a bit... misguided.

Meeting the Parents, Crossthicc GregRose

Greg nervously indicated that Rose and the other Gems were to come into the old convoy cabin, a sort of train with wheels but big enough to hold a city, and Rose followed.

There was plenty of space for it. This was a bit surprising. Rose could push over eight feet when she WASN’T trying hard, and even with her ludicrously massive curves occupying nearly as much as space as her stature, she didn’t get wedged in the door. Neither did the other Gems, who found it a bit odd. Pearl and Bismuth, in particular, made murmuring sounds at non-Gem doors that actually fit them for a change.

Greg waved to Rose and she gently picked him up, and he rested in her palm, and pointed inwards.

Around them, there were monsters. Not kaiju or destructive beasts born of malevolent magic, but gentler things. Magical beings of every shape and sizes; towering suits of armor with a feminine build, reptilian dragon humanoids. As they passed, a small family of massive snowflakes that resembled birds fluttered around (wait what was THAT one, that was NOT a snowflake, was it some kind of monstrous forced fusion?!), and a number of frogs watched them go solemnly. They looked like overlarge frogs, until the eyes on their stomach blinked.

The vast cabin was bigger on the inside, a working of magic for sure. It was warm, filled with pleasant light the Gems absorbed gratefully, and the atmosphere was... welcoming. The monsters, in their vast multitudes (towering beasts, lupine brutes, fearsome chimeras of every possible mixture and variation, humanoid animals, little imps, and so many more!) waved at them, smiling or making welcoming noises, and most of them spoke to Greg like they knew him.

“Hey, Greg!”

“Sup, little buddy?”

“Come by our store, kiddo, we got that archive you wanted!”

“Is that the new girlfriend and her family? Hi!”

And so on.

Pearl cleared her throat. She glanced at the young human in Rose’s claws and thought how to put this politely. “So, Mister Universe. You were raised by these... monsters, yes?”

Greg waved to some other varieties of monsters; a buxom centaur knight, a naga lady, and others of that kind, more akin to humans than the other monsters. “Yeah,” he said. “The folks I was born with. They, uh. Didn’t want me.”

The pause went on a bit too long to hide the sting.

“So I found my own family!”

They entered into a corridor of sorts (How big WAS this place?) and there, they saw too figures of startling different size. Greg’s expression changed at once; rather than the respected bard-mage trying to earn the respect of a mighty heroine and her family, his expression got even softer than normal. His stance got more childish, and it seemed to Pearl, who had seen this sort of thing by now, that he looked like a child coming home to his family.

One of the pair knew they were coming. It was some kind of magical skeleton, or something that looked like a skeleton; as they approached, they judged that it was probably just a superficial resemblence. A hard bony exterior moved with too much fluidity to be... well, animated bones. The skeleton, if he was that, wasn’t much larger than a human, but nearly as wide as he was tall. Mostly shrouded in a frayed jacket of the kind popular with scavengers, and wearing all blue, he turned towards them with a look that faded away so fast it was hard to notice at all.

But Rose Quartz did feel it. She saw the eye socket glow, and she felt someone start right into her innermost soul, and see all she was, and all she had done.

And then the moment was passed, and the skeleton’s eyes glowed with a soft, gentle light. “Sup, kiddo?” he said, as Greg hopped off Rose’s hand onto the ground next to him. It was a very large and purple ground, at that.

“I brought them, just like I said!” Greg said proudly. “What do you think, mom?” He turned his head up.

Rose blinked, just for a moment. And then the walls shifted.

For a moment, Rose realized too late that it was very easy to miss something a lot bigger than you waiting quietly in the shadows, until it became the background. And she realized her mistake as what she thought was a wall moved out, and she realized it was an arm. a massive arm, shrouded in a purple robe, and a hand large enough to enclose Rose’s entire midsection reached out to gently pat their heads individually. White fur, barely hiding thick claws, tapped against them.

They looked up, and up, and kept looking up, at an absolutely massive monster woman; white-furred, with a thick and unbelievably curvaceous body with breasts so massive it was hard to make out what her body shape even was. The face peering down at them was, perhaps, goatlike, or ogrish. A short round snout, long floppy ears, and a pair of wide horns.

Rose looked up, in delighted surprise, at a giant monster woman that had to be at least a couple hundred feet tall. At minimum!

“Hello, dears,” she said warmly down at them, adjusting her glasses. “You must be Greg’s new... friends!”

“Heya,” the skeleton said amiably, leaning against the wall of lap mostly covered in a mass of tattered fabrics that approximated a robe. His stance very strongly said ‘married’ to them, or at least ‘commited long-term relationship that’s gonna stick around for pretty much ever’. “Huh.” He gave them a wide grin. “Greg wasn’t kidding when he said you were kinda tall.”

“These are my parents,” Greg said proudly. “Sans, he’s my dad. And Toriel!” he pointed up. “My mom.”

Toriel waved a set of claws so big it upset local air currents.

Pearl levelly gazed up at a gigantic monster woman, with curves so massive as to rival even Rose’s amplitude, and the easygoing Sans, who was grinning at her like he was just waiting for an opportunity to make a truly awful joke. And he’d grown up like this, surrounded by monsters that he apparently preferred the company of. Pearl glanced at Rose, who was absolutely massive, and incredibly curvaceous, and not particularly human-like apart from a few vague similarities.

“I think,” Pearl said politely. “That you two answer just about every question I’ve ever had about Greg. This... explains a lot.”

Heck yeah!

Favorite thing about them: I think it was Pearl who said something to the effect of Rose being able to see the beauty in everyone and everything, a quality I deeply admire about her. This openness allowed her to feel a compassion for a colony that she was meant to crush beneath her fingertips, and it gave her the means to see a renegade out of a Pearl and an answer out of a new fusion and a strength out of a Quartz who would have been designated a weakness by her own world. She loved and loved fiercely, and in the end, her love gave birth to a boy who would not only save the family she found on Earth… but the family she left behind on Homeworld, too. :’)

Least favorite thing about them: In wanting to make things right, though, Pink… Rose ultimately left a lot of hurt behind. I don’t think she could have ever guessed the extent to which her failures would have fallen on Steven’s shoulders, but all the same, they did, and that’s something that can never be taken back—only dealt with. 

Favorite line: “Steven, we can’t both exist. I’m going to become half of you. And I need you to know that every moment you love being yourself, that’s me, loving you and loving being you. Because you’re going to be something extraordinary. You’re going to be a human being.”

Random headcanon: Every time I write about Pink interacting with the Diamonds, one of my favorite details is to include how she perches on one of their shoulders. :’)) It’s just such a sweet image.

Unpopular opinion: Not sure if this is an unpopular opinion, but I think one of my favorite aspects of her Pink persona was how bratty she was as a young Diamond. It really informed the familial dynamic between her and the other Diamonds, and it lent an insight into the trajectory of her arc, from its beginning to its semi-tragical end. Pink Diamond’s story is very much about growing up, much like her son’s is today.

Song I associate with them: “Yesterday” by Imagine Dragons (”And by my own volition, / I’ve been the saint, I’ve been the truth, I’ve been the lie.”)

I actually dont like pearl/mysery girl, lmao, but neither it nor gregrose is as bad as jashi becuase???? the problem isn an age difference, its someone who is a child or mentally a child becuase of trauma/an adult. I, like many others, had thoguht ashi was 17 before this ep. hopefully, she isn’t but either way, ashi doesnt know anyhting about the world. This is an inherent power imbalance becuase ashi is till functionally a child. Greg was young, but he was an adult mentally. and the show aknolwedges that rose has things to elarn form greg too- Jack has NOTHING to learn from ashi. thats a ottal power imbalance.
