The cold air whipped around your skin as your legs carried you as fast as they could manage. You felt branches scrape across your face, scratching your cheeks but when you heard heavy twigs snapping behind you you knew he was close. The full moon had more than a one day affect after all.
You hadn’t noticed the hill until you found yourself barrelling down the dry dirt, luckily managing to slide down on your ass instead of tumbling into a heap. However, when you stood you felt your breathing catch in your throat, “Found you,” Remus’s voice called over the forest making a distant owl screech.
Your head snapped around, your eyes finding him stood on the top of the hill, the moon behind him and lighting up his skin. Remus began to step down the hill, with far more grace and agility than you had. Your legs carried you backwards, slowly walking away, eyes locked onto his hungry ones until you felt a tree hit your back.
Your head whipped around, looking for somewhere to run, but you looked back when you felt two hands slam against the tree, either side of your head and caging you in, “Caught you,” Remus said, his voice low as he towered over you.
You found your eyes glancing at his lips then back to his eyes which had a newfound glint in them, “Remus what if- “you tried to protest but you gasped when you felt his lips slam onto yours.
His hands moved to cup your face, his rough thumb brushing against your cheek bone. Despite your previous protest you felt yourself melt into the kiss, your hands moving to hold his arms, feeling his biceps through his shirt.
Remus growled lowly, stepping forward again till his front was pressed against yours and you felt the hard bark pressing into your back. You could feel his hard on pressing into your stomach as his hands moved down from your face to your hips, gripping them tightly.
“Want you,” Remus muttered against your lips, his own moving to nip kisses down your neck. You moaned as he settled on a spot between your neck and shoulder, wondering what kind of marks he would leave this time.
Small moans left your lips making a Remus growl once more and you were grateful no one else was brave, or dumb, enough to venture in these woods. “Remus,” you whined, your hands pushing at his shoulders, “We could get caught,”
You plead fell on deaf ears as his hands moved to slip under your shirt, his hands moving behind your back to unclip your bra expertly. As he pulled it out from under your shirt, his hands quickly moving back to cup your breasts he looked down at you, “Tell me you want me to stop,” he said, resting his forehead against yours.
You went to speak but were cut off by your own moan as he squeezed your nipples gently, “We shouldn’t,” you finally stuttered out.
Remus leaned his lips down closer, a smirk in his eye, “But you want to,” he said, slowly rolling your perked buds between his fingers, “Admit it,” he taunted, his voice barely above a whisper as his lips hovered close to yours.
You could feel his lips brush against yours as you tried to think of something to say but instead you found your hands moving to his neck, pulling him back down for another heated kiss. This time Remus waited no times as his hands slipped down to your ass, giving it a quick squeeze before he hoisted you up against the tree.
Your legs wrapped around his waist, pulling his body flush against yours and whining when you felt his bulge grind against your core. Your arms wrapped around his neck, scared you may fall but the moon gave him strengths no one fully understood.
His lips moved to suck harsh marks against your collarbone. Soft moans left your lips as your fingers toyed with the ends of his hair, but your breathing caught when you felt him move his hand. While holding you steady with one hand Remus slipped the other between your bodies, moving down till he was under your skirt. You wanted to ask what he was doing but before you could you gasped as he ripped your tights, his hand instantly slipping under your panties to rub sloppy circles against your clit.
“Fuck,” you whined, your voice coming out higher than planned.
“Careful pet,” Remus tutted, “Someone could hear you,” he teased, mock concern spreading his face.
You whined when you felt his hand come away from your cunt, “What are you doing?” you asked as you felt his hand move around under neath your body.
“Something I should’ve done a long time ago,” Remus said, his voice low and almost dark as you realised what he had been doing. You felt the tip of his cock run up and down your panties, lingering over your aching hole.
Your hips bucked, desperate for friction as you felt yourself grow wetter by the second. A low growl left his throat at your actions, and he quickly went to move your panties aside, lining his tip up with your hole. At first, he eased in slowly and you gasped as you felt him begin to stretch you out.
Remus groaned, his head falling to rest against yours as he sunk further in. your hands moved to grip his hair, tugging on his soft locks, but as you did something in Remus snapped and his hips snapped forward, sinking his length fully in and making you gasp.
His head fell into the crook of your neck as his hands grabbed your hips, keeping you in place as he began to set a relentless pace. His hips snapped against yours, your back being pushed further into the wood as he began to hit new spots making your back arch, pushing your chest against his.
Remus growled, his fingernails sinking into your hips making you cry out and wonder if it was enough to leave marks. Your legs tightened around his hips as your moans rang out across the darkened forest.
Grunts and groans fell from his lips as he left occasionally kisses and bites to your neck. You felt your body shift and before you could question it you felt his hand slip back between your bodies, finding your clit in an instant as he rubbed fast circles onto the bundle of nerves.
You could feel your body tense and your stomach tightened. Maybe it was the rush of being outside or the fact he was hitting deeper spots than ever before, but you could barley control your moans let alone try resist the quickly approaching orgasm.
When your cunt clenched around him Remus’s hips started moving at an inhumane pace making you cry out, but it was enough to tip you over the edge, “Fuck I can’t-fuck!” you gasped, as your orgasm washed over your body.
Remus couldn’t stop though, not now. He chased his high like a dog chased rabbits and soon you felt his pace become sloppy before a familiar feeling spread inside you. Remus’s head fell into your neck, his hands moving from beneath your legs to gently let you stand on your own again.
Your legs almost buckled as your feet touched the ground and Remus quickly grabbed your arms to steady you, “Are you okay?” he asked, concern washing over his scarred face.
“Yeah,” you breathed out, still dazed from before, “I’m fucking amazing actually,”
Remus laughed at your words, but it was soon cut off as he glanced around the forest, “We should really go back though,” he said, concern finally crossing his mind.
You laughed as you took his hand, quickly adjusting your skirt and hoping you managed to avoid seeing anyone on the way since there was no disguising the state you were in, “Lets go Loverboy,” you grinned, loving the way he had became a blushing mess at your teasing despite his prior persona.
When you finally got back to your dorm you settled in for a peaceful night’s sleep. Somehow you had gotten away with it all. Well sort of. since there was no way in hell you were going to claim the bra that a first year had found during their magical creatures lesson the next morning.

Young!Remus Lupin x Reader - Never Stop Being You
For @loving-and-dreaming (and for anyone else who has ever felt like this) ; I hope this fic helps I saw it a while ago whilst I was reading Remus fics!
I hope you all enjoy this! 💛
Tumblr media
“Y/n, I was thinking we could go to the library after potion classroom study?” Remus said, lifting his head up from the book he’d been enthralled in most of the morning.
“Yeah; that sounds good, hon-Remus,” Y/n replied with barely even a smile before she left the Gryffindor Common room altogether.
Remus’ eyes narrowed in both confusion and concern; a look that his fellow Marauders also mirrored.
Y/n loved the library, that’s where she spent eighty percent of her time when she wasn’t in classes and sure studying wasn’t her favorite thing to do but it was odd to see her so indifferent by what he said.
She also rarely called anyone by their first name unless it was her first time meeting them; or had told her to call them by their name. But Remus had never done that; in fact he found it adorable that she called him honey; it made his heart feel all warm and fuzzy.
So hearing his actual name fall from her lips was like a punch in the gut.
She hadn’t called him by his full name since they met each other; in their first year, they were now in their seventh….
“Did I just hear that correctly?” He asked; rubbing the back of his neck nervously; his mind trying to work out if maybe he had misheard her.
“Moony, what did you do?” Sirius questioned; his eyebrows raised as he looked at his friend; Sirius, much like Remus had rarely seen Y/n call anyone by their first name, the only time he’d experienced it was when she was really mad at him for pulling a prank on her, that went terribly wrong and ruined one of her favorite books.
Hence why Sirius assumed that Remus and Y/n had had a falling out.
However, Lily soon corrected that assumption, “He hasn’t done anything,”
“She’s been like that for a few days,” Marlene continued with a sigh, as she twiddled her quill in between her fingers, “It’s like she’s stopping herself from saying the nicknames she’s called us for years…”
Remus hadn’t been around as much the last few days because of the full moon, he’d spent most of his time in the hospital wing and in his dorm room; today was the first real day he’d felt strong enough to go back to classes.
Something had happened to Y/n…and he couldn’t help the ache of guilt in his chest at the thought of something happening to her and him not being there.
But he was here now; and he was going to find out what had happened to make her act unlike herself.
~~~~~
Throughout the rest of the day, Remus kept an eye on Y/n…and although it was exactly like Marlene had said, she was calling everyone by their first name, avoiding all the nicknames she used to call people; there was also something else going on.
She was quiet; unusually so.
She barely cracked a smile at Sirius’ joke in Charms class; and Remus knew  that that was a joke she would’ve normally laughed at.
It was like a Dementor had come along and sucked all of the happiness out of her.
In fact he was fully  prepared for her not to show up to their study session today; but a small wave of relief washed over him when he saw her making her way over to him.
“Hey,” Remus greeted softly as she sat down; there were a million questions racing around in his head, but he thought it was best to let her get comfortable before he started asking her questions.
After an hour of studying; it was not Remus who broke the silence they were in, it was Y/n.
“What’s wrong? She asked; her eyes not once dithering from the book she was reading.
“Shit,” Remus mumbled under his breath; as he looked up at Y/n. He’d been hoping that she was so engrossed in her charms book to notice his worried glances; clearly, he was wrong.
“I could ask you the same question?” He countered gently; closing the book he’d been trying and failing to read.
“I’m fine,” she stated bluntly; trying to ignore the concern in Remus’ eyes as he looked at her.
“I’m just saying…if there’s something wrong…you can talk to me, Y/n/n y’know that right?”  he smiled reassuringly.
He knew she was lying when she said she was fine; but he also respected that maybe she didn’t want to talk about what was wrong right now and as much as he wanted her to tell him what was wrong so he could help her, he also wasn’t going to push her.
“Why does everyone think there’s something wrong with me?” Y/n snapped; silencing the minimal chitter in the background as she gathered her belongings and quickly left the library.
He swore he saw her wipe a few tears from her cheek before she left; and that just made his heart ache even more as his mind fought with itself for a few moments; trying to decide what the best thing to do was, if he went after her he was worried that she would feel like she didn’t have any space; but alternatively he also hated the thought of her being alone whilst she was upset.
He couldn’t leave her.
So he rushed after her, trying to think of where she could be.
He tried all the usual places he thought he’d find her; and then all of the less likely places; and he couldn’t find James who had the map, so that ruled that out as an option of trying to find her.
It was a complete and utter coincidence that he bumped into her quite literally while he was walking towards the Quidditch pitch where James and Sirius were.
“Y/n/n-” his words stopped in his throat when he saw just how puffy and red her eyes were.
“C’mere,” he whispered, pulling her into his arms; a gesture which she didn’t fight against; instead, she simply melted into the warmth and comfort of his arms, as he rubbed her back soothingly.
“I’m sorry,” She sniffled, pulling herself away from him slightly so that she could wipe her tears away.
“You don’t need to be sorry,” he cooed; continue to rub small circles into her back; while his other hand rose to her face, caressing her cheek.
“Am I too much?” She asked, the question catching Remus completely off guard.
“Am I too nice; too bubbly, just…too much, I know people don’t always like nicknames…and I can be a bit too loud sometimes; that’s not something I’m not used to hearing but I didn’t think it annoyed people, is it annoying?”
The words were falling from her lips faster than Remus’ mind could keep up with; but after a few seconds the words had processed.
“It’s not annoying, not at all,” he said, tilting her head up slightly so that their eyes met, “Why don’t you start from the beginning?”
So she did.
She explained what had happened a few nights ago; that a handful of students had said that she was too friendly and nice to everyone; that she was too bubbly and should learn to not talk as much, and the nicknames she called people, like honey were just weird.
And that was all because she offered to help them with an assignment.
“I was…I was just trying to help,” she continued; picking the skin around her thumb anxiously.
“I know and there is nothing wrong with that,” Remus stated, taking her hands in his, “you don’t have to shrink who you are just because other people can’t appreciate how brilliant you are,”
“I’m not brilliant,” she mumbled, her thumbs rubbing along the side of my knuckle.
“Yes, you are,” he argued; though his tone remained soft, as his thumb traced over her bottom lip.
 “You are the finest, loveliest, tenderest and most beautiful person I have known and even that is an understatement,” he breathed, unknowingly closing the small distance between them; until their lips were almost touching.
He glanced down at her lips, before meeting her eyes, silently asking her if this was okay.
She didn’t say anything; she simply closed the distance between them herself.
The initial shock of her lips on his made him stumble back a little; thankfully it was not enough to break the kiss; he wished his lips could heal her hurt, he wished he could kiss the pain away and show her just how amazing she was in his eyes.
“You are amazing,” he breathed in between kisses before placing one last kiss on her forehead, before pulling her back into his arms, “and I will always remind you of that.”
I used to get lost in your eyes
Pairing: Remus Lupin x reader (first person).
Tumblr media
My hands are shaking. Any minute now, he'll come walking through that door and I'll have to break both of our hearts. Any minute now, I will have my last moment with him, and my bones are threatening to break under the weight of that knowledge. Keys rattle on the other side of the door, and I take a deep breath to stabilize my thundering heart. It does not do the trick.
"Hey, how was..." His voice trails off when he sees my packed bags by the door. There's no reason to try and hide the tears making their way down my cheeks. He'll know soon enough what will happen tonight.
"We need to talk." The four worst words in a relationship. My voice remains steady despite the cold making a home in my veins.
"What's going on?" He still has one foot out in the hallway as if not fully entering the room will change the outcome of tonight. It won't.
"I can't do this anymore. I can't keep waiting for you to let me in, because I don't think you'll ever be ready. And I definitely can't continue to be shut out when you're struggling. It hurts too much." I feel my bottom lip quiver as I try to reel back some of the feelings threatening to rip their way out of my heart. For so long, I've managed to keep them contained, but I can't do it anymore. I am tired.
"Please, don't. You know I've been working on this. You know I'm trying to-to-I don't want to lose you." Finally, he enters the room to walk over to me and get on his knees in front of me. For once, I can read him as an open book. The fear of losing me, the broken heart already demanding to be felt even though I'm still here. I see it all, but it's too late.
"I can't keep clawing at your walls, darling. My nails haven't even managed to make a single scratch." Nothing on this earth could prepare me for the feeling in my chest as I watch all hope evaporate from his face. I have to consciously remind myself why this is necessary. How many evenings I've sat waiting for him to come home, to tell me what troubles him. How many times I've gone to bed alone because he'd rather stay in his study and ignore the world. Once, I was naive enough to think that I might one day become his world. That he'd trust me enough to let me see the sides of him that were less than perfect. I did not harbor such sentiments now.
"There must be something I can do," he argues but I've made my decision. It will do none of us any good to dwell on what might have been.
"I'll stay with Lily and James for a few days until I find somewhere to go." It's selfish to bring his best friend into this, but I have nowhere to go and Lily is my best friend. It's only natural to seek her comfort right now. I tell myself it's only for a few days. And it's not as if James won't be able to come over and see Remus. I'd never get in the way of that.
"Please stay." With unsteady legs, I stand up and step to the side to pass Remus still on his knees.
"Please," he whispers so quietly, I almost miss it. If there is something smaller than a quark, I believe that would be equivalent to the size of the broken pieces of my heart lying shattered on the floor. He grips my wrist to keep me from taking another step, but I cannot stay. I cannot destroy myself to make him whole.
"Let go of me, Remus." It comes out as a plea rather than an order, but I cannot bring myself to cause him any more pain than necessary. Fire spreads where his skin touches mine and I curse how weak my body becomes by his touch.
"Don't make me do it myself. Please just let me go." I don't want to have to pry his hand off of me. I can't have that be my last memory with him. After a full minute, he finally lets go of my wrist.
"You are worthy of love, my darling. I'm just not the right person to give it to you." I lean down to press a kiss to his forehead as a final goodbye. The sight of his tear-streaked face will haunt me from this day forward, but I still walk out the door. And he doesn't stop me this time.
𝑱𝑨𝑴𝑬𝑺 𝑷𝑶𝑻𝑻𝑬𝑹
acts of service + physical touch.
— throughout his busy days of quidditch practices and school, sometimes he struggles without saying anything. school can be a challenge for him with balancing his busy schedule, so helping him study or with homework means more to him thank you think.
he’s literally so so so clingy, he has some separation anxiety sometimes :(. he’s always sure to tell you he loves you before one of you leaves. when you come back, his hands are instantly all over you and tightly wrapped around you.
𝑺𝑰𝑹𝑰𝑼𝑺 𝑩𝑳𝑨𝑪𝑲
words of reassurance.
— as he grew up hearing violent and cruel words from his mother most of his life, softer words mean so much to him. it wasn’t everyday that he heard words such as gentle and caring as yours, but when he did he truly felt like he knew how much you loved him.
𝑹𝑬𝑴𝑼𝑺 𝑳𝑼𝑷𝑰𝑵
gift giving + acts of service.
— homemade gifts or even random ones that you say reminded you of him are his favorite ones. he adores the fact that you think of him even randomly.
-- once he eventually realizes you know where his scars are coming from and why he goes away once a month, he opens up to you so much more. he slowly lets you care and pamper him after some time. he's not open to everyone about this-hardly even sirius, but to you he shows a different side of himself where he isn't always ashamed.
𝑹𝑬𝑮𝑼𝑳𝑼𝑺 𝑩𝑳𝑨𝑪𝑲
words of affirmation + quality time.
— same with sirius, growing up hearing his mother and fathers disgracing words, and hearing your soft words of reassurance.
— even if it's spending time in the silence, reg loves every second of it. he specifically loves when he lays his head in your lap and you play with his messy curls. spending time with him or even clearing your schedule for him makes him feel truly important to you.
Remus Lupin x Reader
Masterlist
Summary: everyone has been teasing the reader since first year about their crush on Remus Lupin. To the point that they had given up any hope of him liking them back. Only to discover they were in the same boat all along.
Remus Lupin Masterlist
Tumblr media
The train ride back to Hogwarts was either the best or worst part of the Hogwarts experience. Sometimes it was both. It’s a long train ride.
You hadn’t seen your friends all summer due to a family vacation. So you were catching up with Lily Evans, Marlene Mckinnon, and Mary MacDonald for the first time in three months. Everyone had a lot to say.
“You grew your hair out!” Mary exclaimed as soon as you walked into the cart. You smiled at her and pushed said hair back behind your shoulders.
“I’m just trying it out,” you say.
“Are those new clothes? You look amazing,” Marlene said. You smiled at her and glanced down at the clothes you were wearing.
“Oh, yeah. My parents let me redo my wardrobe. Like a seventh year gift or something,” you said. The girls nodded and you all got comfortable in the seats to start talking. About an hour into the ride, Remus opened the door and walked in, shutting it and locking it behind him.
“Hi, Remus, come on in,” Marlene said sarcastically. Remus turned to look at all of you and rolled his eyes.
“Sirius put on his music and is giving a concert. I just want to nap,” he said, looking at Marlene.
“Well, there’s not much room for a giant to lay down on one of our seats,” she said, crossing her arms. Mary got up from next to you.
“Here, I can sit with them,” she said and you didn’t miss the wink she sent you. You had a very well known crush on Remus Lupin. All your friends knew about it. And all your friends were all his friends. So naturally you assumed he knew about it as well. Remus looked at Mary and shook his head.
“No need, I am just going to lay down on the ground.” Mary raised an eyebrow at him and crossed her arms over her chest.
“And you think Marls won’t kick you? What gave you that confidence?” She said. Remus glanced at a smirking Marlene. All three girls seemed to excited to get Remus to sit next to you, and you knew he knew that. However he just nodded and took Mary’s seat while Mary sat in between Marlene and Lily. You glared at all three of them and then you notice how all three of them seemed to be holding in a laugh. You knit your brows together.
“What?” Then you glance at Remus and see that his eyes are already on you. It made you tense up a little. Remus rarely looked at you unless you were talking in the group or class or something. His eyes weren’t on yours. They were wandering like he had never seen you before. You shift a little, glancing at your friends for help but Mary just buried her face in Lily’s shoulder.
Remus quickly looked away from you and cleared his throat. “Oh, um, sorry.” You look away too, not sure how to speak anymore you just nod. It took a grand total of five minutes for all three other marauders boys to be knocking at your door. Remus groaned and stood up, opening the door.
“Why’d you leave, Moony? I was in the middle of Killer Queen,” Sirius said. Remus rolled his eyes.
“Exactly.” Sirius put a hand to his heart and gasps.
“Moony, are you… are you trying to tell me you don’t like Queen.”
“I don’t mind Queen. I don’t like your version of it.” Sirius claps his hands over his mouth and wipes away fake tears.
“Come on, we’ve convinced him to turn off the music,” James said. Sirius waved his hands and shook his head.
“No. No way. I can’t be near him right now,” he said and stole the seat next to you by plopping down. Then he looked over at you and grinned.
“Oh, hey, Y/N. You’re lookin’ great! How far back in line am I with you as beautiful as that?” You raise an eyebrow at him and scoff. Sirius had been practicing flirting with you since first year. He’d asked you in your first week of being friends if you could help him get girls by telling him how good his ‘lines’ were.
“End of the line, with that one, Sirius,” you said. He pouts and looks over at his friend. Remus was glaring at him and he clearly saw that. Then he looked back at you and grinned again.
“Who would be first, then?” He asked, already knowing the answer.
“Why ask stupid questions, just to be a jerk?” You ask. Sirius put his hands up in surrender and his mouth fell open into and O shape.
“I don’t want you to hate me!” You just rolled your eyes.
“Leave us alone Sirius. We’ll see you later,” you said. He pouts again.
“I have to go with the Queen hater?” He asked, giving you puppy dog eyes. You nodded slowly and Remus took a step towards him, grabbing the back of his collar and pulling him up.
“You heard her. Lets go,” he said. He pushed Sirius out of the door and followed the rest of his friends out as well. Ten seconds pass after the door shuts before all three girls erupt in giggles in front of you.
“What?”
“Took her long enough!” Marlene exclaimed.
“That was ridiculous!” Lily exclaimed.
“I can’t believe it’s finally happened!” Mary said through her giggles.
“What are you talking about?” You said. Mary hops up and sits next to you again.
“Remus! He’s head over heels for you, and you just saw it first hand,” she said, placing a hand down on the cushion next to you. You blink at her and finally laugh.
“Have you lost your mind?”
“You are so oblivious! He has always had his eye on you!” Lily exclaimed and you rolled your eyes. Your friends had been teasing you about Remus for years, trying to convince you he liked you back. You couldn’t agree. Remus wouldn’t even acknowledge you if it wasn’t for your friends. “And the way he looks at you!” Lily was grinning from ear to ear.
“It’s the way James looks at this one.” Marlene said, gesturing to Lily, who blushed.
“The way Dorcas looks at Marlene,” Mary said. Lily cleared her throat.
“Frank looks at Alice,” she said. You blink at all of them, seeing that they were being completely serious.
“You have officially lost it. All of you.” Lily and Marlene rolled their eyes.
“Just wait, Y/N, he’s obsessed with you, you’ll see,” Mary said.
“You think that based on one look?” You ask incredulously. They look between each other before nodding. You just rolled your eyes and sat back.
When you got to Hogwarts, everyone went to the Dining hall. The marauders boys always sat with you and your friends. James sat next to Lily and you sat across from her. Remus sat in between you and Sirius, and Mary was next to you. You noticed all your friends smirking at you and you just glared at them as you sat through Dumbledore’s speech.
As you were walking back to the common room, Mary and Marlene were in a deep discussion about Marlene’s next date with Dorcas. Sirius and Peter were discussing a movie they’d seen and James and Lily were walking a little ahead of all of you. Leaving you awkwardly walking with Remus.
“I’m sorry about Sirius earlier,” he said. You look at him and shrug.
“It’s no big deal. Sirius does it all the time,” you said. He nods a little and stuck his hands in his pockets.
“Yeah.” You raise an eyebrow at him. You probably watch Remus more than anyone else in the world. You know his looks. You know when he’s concentrated, angry, excited, happy, tired, frustrated, upset, and when he’s anxious. He looked frustrated.
“Are you alright?” You asked. Remus looked at you. Remus, the tallest boy you’d ever met looked down at you but it never felt like he was looking down on you in a bad way. He shook his head a little.
“Just a little tired,” he said. You rolled your eyes and shake your head. “What?”
“You’re not that tired,” you said. He raised an eyebrow at you.
“And what makes you think that?” You scoff and glance at him for a split second.
“When you’re tired your eyes get all heavy like you’re trying to keep them open and you slouch. When you’re angry or something, your brows scrunch up a little and you tense up.” You gesture to him slightly with your hand without really looking at him. “And you posture gets abnormally perfect.” He doesn’t say anything for a moment.
“I do that?” He asked. You nod a little, crossing your arms over your chest as you pass the open windows. Remus took off his jacket and put it around your shoulders before you even had time to process what was happening. You look at him and shake your head a little, moving to pull it off.
“I don’t really need-” Remus cuts you off and puts an arm over your shoulders to keep the jacket there. When you put your arms down, he lets go.
“Come on, I saw you shiver like two minutes ago,” he said. You blinked up at him, not even remembering the moment yourself. “Besides, it looks better on you anyways.” You felt a blush climbing up your neck and onto your cheeks. “Ya know, Sirius is annoying as hell, but he was right about one thing.”
“You are a Queen hater?” You asked sarcastically. A small smile climbed onto him beautiful face.
“No,” he said, rolling his eyes. “You really are gorgeous.” You couldn’t breathe. You always said Remus Lupin would make you pass out one of these days, but now you thought today might truly be that day. Remus Lupin just called you gorgeous and suddenly nothing else mattered in the entire universe.
“You think I’m gorgeous?” His brows drew together, causing wrinkles on his forehead. He stepped a little closer to you, his confusion evident.
“Why do you say it like that?” He asked. “Of course I do. I always did.” You drop your head a little, your entire body tingling with anxiety and heat.
“Well, I’ve been trying to get your attention forever, and it sort of just always felt like you didn’t care,” you admitted, knowing how all of your friends teased you about the crush for the past few years. You’d always known Remus knew you liked him, you just knew he didn’t like you back so you just went on with your lives like it wasn’t happening. Remus just blinked at you.
“You really fancy me?” He asked. That just felt cruel so you lifted your head up and glared at him.
“There’s no need to be mean, Remus,” you said. He shook his head quickly and took another small step towards you.
“No! I wasn’t trying to… oh,” he stopped himself and squeezed his eyes shut. He glanced over at your friends who had continued walking without the two of you, not even noticing how you two had disappeared. You crossed your arms tight against your chest and looked down. “I always thought you were beautiful,” he said. You didn’t look up at him despite the swarming in your stomach. “I just figured everyone was teasing because of the crush I had on you in second year.” You snapped your head up at that, your eyes widening.
“You liked me?” He nodded and glanced down at his hands in his pockets.
“Yeah, a lot. I just tried to shove it down and move on when the teasing started. I thought it would stop eventually,” he rolled his eyes and you felt yourself deflate. He liked you five years ago and had spent all that time getting over it while you were just becoming more and more addicted to everything about him. You both were silent for a moment.
Finally you take a deep breath. “They were teasing because of me,” you said, unable to look at him again. “It’s truly become a bit of a problem how bad this has gotten.” He didn’t say anything for a moment and you don’t look at him.
“How bad what has gotten?” You squeeze your eyes shut, willing one of your friends to come over and save you from this dreadful conversation.
Finally you look up at him and find his eyes ready to meet yours. Your breath hitched. The sincere curiosity and confusion in his eyes made it a million times worse. “I’ve liked you since basically the end of first year, Remus.” He blinks at you, leaning back slightly like the sentence had actually been a gust of wind he didn’t expect. “It’s horrible, because functioning in your general vicinity is nearly impossible. All I can think about is not making a fool of myself around you,” you added. Now you had finally admitted it and there was no going back now. Remus knew how you felt about him. It made you nervous but also felt like a weight lifted off your shoulders.
The boy you’d been dreaming about for years finally knew how you felt.
“I get that you don’t like me anymore, Remus. And… and that’s fine,” you said and took a deep breath. “I just didn’t think you need to keep thinking you’re the source of the teasing when it is entirely my fault.”
“You’ve liked me since first year?” He asked. You sighed and looked him in the eye again.
“That’s all you’re focused on? Look, nothing has to change. You don’t like me and I understand that. I always have. I don’t want things to be awkward now just because I vocalized what everyone already knew.”
You go to take a step in the direction of your friends when Remus grabbed your wrist, stopping you. You frowned a little and looked at him again. “I didn’t know you liked me,” he said. You blinked at him, shaking your head.
“Our friends have been saying it for years, Remus, I know you knew,” you said. He shook his head.
“No, I didn’t. I knew my friends teased me about a beautiful girl liking me. I just thought is was ridiculous. I had no idea why you would like me,” he said. You rolled your eyes and crossed your arms again, pulling out of his grip.
“Come on, Remus.” He gave you an extremely confused look and you huff out a breath, letting your arms fall. “Remus, you have always been the most perfect boy around. You’re handsome, you’re smart, you’re funny, you’re one of the most loyal people I know, but apparently you’re an idiot also.” He just stared at you for a moment. Then a small smile popped onto his face. Remus always had the capability to make you swoon you just tried not to show it.
“I don’t think I’m the only idiot here,” he said. Your eyes widened and you stared at him for a moment.
“Excuse me?” He rolled his eyes and took a step closer to you again.
“I tried to make my feelings go away. I never said I succeeded.” You blinked up at him, your throat going dry. You try to clear your throat but it doesn’t really help.
“What are you trying to say, then?” You say, lifting your head up and raising an eyebrow. Remus just smiles at you, causing any remaining confidence to fade because that smile will surely make you pass out.
“So stubborn…” he said. “I like you, y/n.” You can’t breathe. You don’t say anything and he raises an eyebrow. Finally he nods and continues again. “I could tell you everything I like about you but I think we’d be here a while.” You finally blink out of your trance, blushing as red as a tomato.
“You’ll have to write it down, then,” you say sarcastically. He just smiles at you.
“I’ll get on that.” You smile a little and his eyes brush over your face for a moment. “So, will you go on a date with me?” Your eyes widen at the question. He waits for a moment for your response.
You freeze for half a second before processing that he really asked that and it wasn’t just your imagination. “Yes,” you finally say softly before clearing your throat and trying again. “Yes, I would love that, actually.” He grinned at you and stepped up to you again.
“Perfect. First Hogsmeade trip is on Sunday. Would you like to go out with me then?” You nod, not fully trusting your capability to speak. His smile is unwavering. This isn’t a joke. You really are going on a date with Remus Lupin.
You and the girls were going to be up all night talking about this.
No one could truly ever tell how Remus would act around the full moon and to whom. So you could only ever prepare for the constants.
Remus was always physically and mentally drained as his body was preparing him for the transformation. His body would ache. Some months could be much more painful than other months. He was always tired, unable to sleep more than three hours if he was lucky. He was normally restless and tended to bounce his knee, chew on his nails or lip, and fidget with things around him.
Some months he was more angry than anything, others he was more depressed. A week before the full moon was the earliest these side effects occurred. It might start earlier in the week or the middle or at the latest a couple days before.
Walking into the great hall, your eyes immediately searched for your love. Upon seeing him you examined his posture and believed you knew what type of day today would be.
When you got closer you saw James piling some of Remus’ favorite foods on the plate in front of him. Your boyfriend had his hands covering his ears. You believed this to be a subconscious movement to keep out all the noise of the great hall.
James noticed you first, sending you a grateful smile as you sat next to Remus. Far enough to not startle him but close enough so that he could sense your presence.
“Hey, honey.” You said softly to alert him that it was you beside him, but not too quietly that he couldn’t hear you.
You didn’t hear what he mumbled but you took it as a greeting. You gently placed your hand on his back and rubbed it in hope to ease his tension.
Remus was always distant at first, the insecurities plagued his mind. You just needed to be consistent and slowly move towards him.
In the beginning you sat awkwardly next to him. James chatted with Sirius as the black haired boy played wizards chess with Peter. James continued to stuff more food on Remus’ plate, doing his best to encourage him to eat.
Soon enough, Remus allowed himself to find comfort in your presence, and ate a few bites of the food James had given him. It wasn’t enough, but you knew he was trying.
Sirius slammed his hands on the table in frustration from the loss of the chess match. Remus jumped slightly, which earned Sirius a glare from you.
“Sorry, Moons.” He sounded sorry, so you let it go.
Remus just snuggled further into you, taking deeper breaths in an attempt to calm himself. The position the two of you were in was odd to the eye, but it was the best, and most comfortable you could do at the grand tables.
Soon, the owls entered, dropping packages, and hooting loudly. Two packages that were nearly the exact same in size and shape landed in front of James and Sirius.
The two of them grinned and picked their packages up at the same time. If you weren’t so worried about Remus, you would’ve laughed at how similar James and Sirius’ movements were.
“Gifts from Effie.” Sirius grinned at your questioning gaze.
You watched curiously as James and Sirius opened the packages. They both pulled out a delicately wrapped box of sweets and a pouch of coins.
“For the upcoming Hogsmeade trip.” Sirius said absent-mindedly, he gave Remus a sympathetic look knowing that the full moon was this weekend.
“Come on, let’s go back to our dorm.” James said, after he placed the items back into his own box.
You nodded, and rubbed the back of Remus’ neck before whispering James’ words to Remus.
He nodded and stood up, swaying slightly. You were quick to grab his hand and walk with him out of the great hall. You tried to persuade him into leaning on you but he was still well aware that if he were to fall, he would crush you.
Thankfully, Peter was at Remus’ other side, helping support some of his weight. While Sirius hung behind, and James led.
You saw his shoulders visibly relax when you were far enough away from the noise that was the great hall.
————————————————
“Under the cloak you go.” James said, throwing his invisibility cloak over you and Remus.
If someone were to see you going into the marauders dorms, talk would arise and it wouldn’t be good for any of you.
When in their dorm, Remus subconsciously moved towards his bed and flopped down as if he had worked tirelessly all day long, even though it wasn't even noon.
You sat on the edge of his bed. Remus, sensing your proximity, moved so that his head laid in your lap.
All the marauders kept glancing at Remus in worry. James the most. So it wasn’t a shock when said boy spoke up, “He should stay in the dorm today.”
You nodded in agreement, “I’m gonna stay too.”
“You sure?” It was Sirius
“One of us could stay with him.” Peter offered
You shook your head, sending them off to class with a murmur of thanks.
Looking down, you noticed Remus had fallen asleep. You smiled, knowing around these times he got all his sleep from naps.
———————————
Hours later you were awoken from the firm grip on your thighs. Remus’ head was shaking, eyes scrunched up and he was sweating.
You caressed his face, trying to comfort him. He seemed to relax a little.
“Remus.” You called gently, shaking him awake.
It took him a few minutes to come to terms as to where he was.
“What time is it?” He asked quietly.
You glanced around for a clock, before noticing the muggle kid watch you had bought for James last year as a gag gift. You squinted trying to make out the time.
“About two hours after noon.” You answered, trying to relieve the tension in your back and shoulders without disturbing Remus.
Remus groaned in annoyance. He moved to try and get up, but the hand you placed on his back easily convinced him to give up and continue to lay down.
“You should try to get some more sleep.” You said, pushing the strands of hair that stuck to his sweaty forehead away from his face.
“No use.” He answered and your heart aches for him.
“I should start you a bath.” You moved to gently lift Remus’ head from your lap but he halted you with a grab of your wrist.
“Don’t leave.” He whined, “I don’t want to be alone.”
“I’m just gonna run a bath for you so you don’t have to sleep in your own sweat.” You tried
“I don’t care.” Remus begged
You effectively placed Remus’ head into the bed despite his protests.
You were more concerned when he moved to sit up. Even in pain, he moved fast, so you couldn’t stop him.
He delicately wrapped his arms around your waist and pressed his forehead against your stomach. Despite having his arms around you, you could barely feel him. You knew he was denying the want of tightening his hold on you, afraid of being seen as selfish.
You moved for him, pressing his arms around you tighter and moved closer to him so he could bury his face in your stomach.
“You’re allowed to want things, Rem. All you have to do is ask me.” You said, rubbing up and down the back of his neck.
“I don’t want you to leave me.” You knew he meant more of a break-up sense than a physical sense.
“I’m not going to, my love.” The sound of your endearment caused a small cry from his lips.
“I hate it so much.”
You couldn’t even imagine all the pain and suffering Remus had to constantly go through.
“I know, is there anything more I can do to help?” You asked
“Just be here.” He answered quietly
“I promise.” You assured him.
———————————————
Eight Years later
“Don’t fuss, Cariad, It’s not that big, I swear.” Remus chuckled painfully, watching you tend to a wound on his stomach.
“It’s bigger than I’d like.” You mumble through the flush on your cheeks.
“It was quite an angry moose, but I rather a wound from him than my own claws.” Remus said
You froze for a moment then picked back up where you left off, not sure if or how you should respond to that.
Remus’ hiss stopped you from a rabbit hole of negative thoughts.
“I’m sorry.” You said absent-mindedly
“That’s enough cleaning, don’t you think, love?”
“Just a little more.” You promised.
When Remus was all bandaged and done he hummed gratefully.
“So,” He began, resting his hands on your hips as you disposed of the bloody cloths. “How should I repay you for taking such good care of me?”
You hummed, acting as if you were in deep thought, “A kiss or two should be enough payment for me.”
Remus chuckled, “Have I not given you enough kisses today?”
You shook your head, “You never do.”
The man scoffed teasingly, “I thought I gave you a healthy amount, but it seems I've begun to spoil you.”
“Your fault.” You said affectionately, leaning down while making not to touch a wound.
One kiss. Two kisses. Three kisses.
He hummed, pressing one kiss to your cheek, “I thought my payment was two kisses.”
“I changed my mind.” You smiled, resting your forehead against his.
“My silly women.” He caressed your cheek.
“Sorry, Rem. You’re stuck with me.”
“Then I shall die the happiest man.”
Masterlist<3
Summary: The request sums it up, read it hoe Pairing: Remus Lupin x reader Warnings: Alcohol consumption and that's all I can think abt hehe Word Count: 4.5K (i'm sorry) Requested: Yes
A/N: I'm absolutely sobbing. This is so cute!!! I'm using the Reggie was a spy for the order wild card and roll with that. Tysm for this awesome idea, nonnie! And sorry it took so long.
Remus knew magic existed, the type of magic that opens doors, gives you luck or disarms someone. But until he met her, he didn't know there was a type of magic that could be contained in someone's eyes, someone's smile, or even in that little quirk she had of squinting every time she focused.
Y/N Y/L/N. Even her name felt like the sweetest honey when it rolled off your tongue and into the air, he figured. She was a new kind of magic and Remus was hooked from the get go. They had met on a rather peculiar set of circumstances. When Moony first got to college, he had no friends or anyone nearby to help him cope with the abrupt transition. The boys visited as much as they could, but it'd be for about an hour or two before they had to go back to the ministry.
So, as he did when he arrived at Hogwarts, Remus found solace in reading and taking his wolfsbane at appropriate times. He was doing a classics mayor and reading the Plato classics was a convenient way to kill time while doing something productive. The boy spent hours in the library, sitting on the couches or getting some annotations done on the desks; he'd be done with the school's classics collection before the semester was over if he kept that pace.
He would have if he hadn't found those notes. Remus first noticed them in a worn copy of a compilation from a specific period of Plato's scripts, the third page in Philebus. "Socrates is being very reductive. I don't like it. Out of character, I do declare" written in red ink, cursive letters delicate in the ripped white paper.
He giggled at that, his thoughts exactly. Moony picked the piece of paper and examined it to see if it had any indications of who might've written it, but he found nothing. He only knew that the person who wrote it had a ruined red pen; the stains of ink sitting messily on the opposite side of the annotation. Remus was a sucker for mystery stories and he viewed this as an opportunity of having one of his own!
A short-lived one, since he cracked the case when a pretty girl on his history of philosophy class asked around for a red pen. Remus frantically but quietly rummaged through his satchel and found one just in time.
He rushed to her, offering it out “Here” he smiled, looking down at her as she looked up at him. “Thanks… Remus isn’t it? I don’t think I’ve had the pleasure. Y/N Y/L/N”. Y/N introduced herself, offering her hand out. Stained in red. The boy stared shocked at the realization this was the person he’d been looking for.
“Oh shit m’sorry, it looks like I committed a murder or something. My pen started leaking yesterday while I was studying in the library” She laughed and Remus swore he’d faint if he hadn’t gripped her hand. “Actually…” Remus started, searching in his pocket for the piece of paper he kept, when he finally found it, he showed it to her and a smile broke on those pretty lips.
“…I hope you don’t mind! I-I kept it. Been looking for you, it made me laugh” He admitted, handing it to her “You found me then! And, you’re very much welcome to keep it, Remus” Y/N grinned and Remus mirrored her expression sweetly. They met for coffee the next day. The day after that, they studied together. And the week after, they shared lunch.
About two months after they talked for the first time, they had gone on a date every single week. From museum outings to walks around campus if one of them didn't have much time. They also sat together in philosophy and, turns out, literature (which they realized they shared after).
Y/N gifted him a cool rock once, and he kissed her.
He kept the rock in his pocket ever since.
*:・゚✧*:・゚✧
"Come on, mate, you gotta tell us who she is!" James exclaimed, his excitement palpable as he repeatedly patted the worn wooden bar in the cozy pub they had agreed to meet at. Remus chuckled and shook his head, a fond smile dancing on his lips as he took another sip of his whiskey.
"You've been talking non-stop about her since you two met! The last three times we've seen each other, it's been Y/N this, Y/N that. We've gotta meet the missus," Sirius playfully teased, giving Remus a light shove with his shoulder.
Rolling his eyes playfully, Remus glanced at his friends, grateful for their persistent curiosity but also hesitant to share too much. "Oh, Pads, don't call her that! We're not even official yet, and I doubt we'll ever be. She'll find someone, alright, but I'm just good old Remus," he replied, a hint of wistfulness shadowing his gaze.
It was true; good old Remus had learned how to stop caring about what other people thought of him, but that didn't mean he was entirely confident about who he was.
Navigating the Muggle world presented its own set of challenges for Remus. He knew that at some point, he would have to confront the whole "Hey, I'm a wizard, and there's this whole other world you don't know about, hope you don't mind!" situation with Y/N.
Then there were the lingering money issues that weighed on his mind. College was not cheap, but he had managed to secure a decent scholarship, which alleviated some of the burden. He hoped Y/N wouldn't care about his financial situation. And, of course, there was the delicate matter of revealing his true nature as a literal werewolf. How would she react when she found out?
Yeah.
He was good old Remus: poor Remus, monster Remus, scarred Remus, wizard Remus. If he were honest with himself, he was surprised they had made it past the first day, considering he had stupidly worn a short-sleeved t-shirt without anything to conceal the telltale signs of his condition.
But she noticed the perceptive and kind-hearted soul that she was, and she chose not to mention it. In that moment, Remus couldn't help but imagine the possibilities, but he also knew that reality had a way of reminding him of his limitations. Moony knew he would never be able to claim her as his own. Not in this lifetime, not in the next.
For now, he chose to cherish the moments they shared, basking in her laughter and marveling at the way her hair defied gravity with its radiant beauty. She was his bit of magic in a world that often seemed devoid of it. Deep down, however, he couldn't shake the nagging certainty that good things didn't last for boys like him—boys with tragedy coursing through their veins.
"Yeah, no. We're not doing this shit again," Sirius declared, shaking his head in disagreement. Remus's best friends had grown accustomed to his self-deprecating tendencies and were determined to lift his spirits. Remus might have been a mysterious figure to some, but to the Marauders, he was an open book, their brother.
"That's why she likes you, mate. You're good old amazing, lovely, smart, hot Remus!" James proclaimed with a boisterous cheer, pulling Remus into a tight embrace. "Tell you what, bring her to Harry's birthday party this weekend! I'm sure Lily won't mind," he suggested, his mischievous grin widening. Sirius enthusiastically chimed in, nodding in agreement. "Just ask her first and let me know, okay? I don't want Harry to have a bad time becaus-"
"Oh, Moons, the party is more for us than for him! He'll be out like a light by eight, and we'll get wasted like we always do," Prongs interjected, his infectious laughter filling the air, causing Remus to join in, his worries momentarily forgotten in the camaraderie of his friends.
There was no way out of this one, not that he sought an escape. Remus couldn't blame his best friends for their eagerness to meet Y/N. They knew him better than anyone, and they could see the spark of happiness she had ignited within him. Moony did little to hide his excitement, his heart fluttering with the hope that maybe, just maybe, things would work out.
Now, he just needed Lily's approval so he could gather the courage to ask the girl who had captivated his heart to accompany him to the birthday celebration—a step that held the promise of a new chapter in his life, one filled with both joy and uncertainty
*:・゚✧*:・゚✧
Remus nervously fiddled with the corner of his book, stealing glances at Y/N across the library. The soft rays of afternoon sunlight filtered through the stained glass windows, casting a warm, golden glow on the rows of ancient tomes and the elegant wooden shelves that lined the room. But in that moment, all Remus could see was Y/N, a radiant presence amidst the tranquil surroundings.
Summoning his courage, Remus took a deep breath and approached her table. The scent of old parchment mingled with the delicate fragrance of her perfume, creating an intoxicating blend that filled his senses. As he neared, he couldn't help but notice the way her eyes sparkled with intelligence and curiosity as she immersed herself in the world of words. Her hair cascaded down in gentle waves, its hue reminiscent of auburn leaves in autumn, and he found himself captivated by the way it framed her face, enhancing her natural beauty.
"Hey, love," Remus greeted her with a warm smile, trying his best to appear at ease. "Mind if I join you for a moment?"
Y/N looked up, a surprised yet welcoming expression crossing her features. Her eyes met Remus's, and a playful glimmer danced within their depths. She gestured to the seat across from her, her voice laced with gentle humor. "Well, if you insist. But only if you promise not to distract me from my riveting studies."
Remus chuckled, grateful for her light-hearted response. He took the offered seat, feeling a weight lift off his shoulders. "I'll do my best to behave, I promise," he replied, a twinkle in his own eyes. "But I do have something on my mind that I wanted to ask you."
Y/N raised an eyebrow. Her curiosity piqued. "Oh, really? Well, go on then. I'm all ears."
"There's a little someone's birthday coming up this weekend," Remus began, his voice filled with playful anticipation. "Harry, James' adorable son, is turning two years old. And, well, I was wondering if you'd like to come with me to the party."
Y/N's face lit up with a mixture of surprise and delight, her smile contagious. "Are you asking me to crash a toddler's birthday party? That sounds like a dangerous proposition," she teased, her tone lighthearted.
Remus laughed, his nerves easing with every moment of their easy banter. "Well, I can promise you that the party will be more entertaining than dangerous," he quipped, his eyes gleaming with mischief. "There'll be cake, balloons, and probably a fair amount of chaos. It's a chance to embrace your inner child if you want to look at it that way."
Y/N pretended to consider it, her finger tapping against her chin. "Hmm, cake, balloons, and chaos? You make a compelling case," she replied, a playful smile tugging at her lips. "How can I resist? Count me in, darling. I'd love to celebrate with you and your mates."
Remus couldn't contain his happiness, his relief flooding through him like a warm wave. "Brilliant!" he exclaimed, a genuine excitement coloring his voice. "I can't wait for you to meet everyone, t-they insisted I brought the girl I don't shut up about to the party"
Y/N smiled at that, holding Remus's hand over the table. "So you've talked to your friends about me?" "Oh shut it" He smiled, pressing a soft kiss to her lips. Right before those grey clouds of self deprecation repeating "this won't last" and "enjoy it before she realizes what you truly are" clouded his mind.
He shoved the thoughts away, holding to Y/N's smile against his lips as if it was an anchor saving him from drowning.
*:・゚✧*:・゚✧
Bad idea. Bad idea. Bad idea.
He really did try to plan it all neatly. From what he'd wear to how he'd introduced her to his friends. Remus even asked them to keep the magic discreet since it was all too soon for that conversation, but for fuck's sake; it all got thrown out the window when he saw her in low waisted flared pants and his Bowie shirt. "H-hey!" He smiled, almost yelling, but she just laughed at his enthusiasm.
"Hi Rem," she sighed, leaving a kiss on the corner of his lips which she left lingering a bit too long. "Ready?" "As I'll ever be!". As Y/N and Remus walked hand in hand, the excitement in the air was palpable. However, beneath her playful demeanor, Y/N couldn't shake the nerves that fluttered in her stomach. Meeting Remus's best friends felt like stepping into a new world, and the fear of not fitting in or being accepted gnawed at her.
She stole a quick glance at Remus, hoping he wouldn't notice the physical manifestations of her anxiety. The last thing she wanted was to burden him with her own inner turmoil. But even as she tried to compose herself, her voice wavered slightly as she spoke.
"Remus, I can't deny that I'm feeling a bit... off," she admitted, her words stumbling over her nervousness. "My heart feels like it's racing a marathon, and there's this knot in my stomach that just won't loosen. I hope it's not too obvious." Remus turned his head towards her, a reassuring smile playing on his lips. His eyes sparkled with warmth and understanding.
"Hey, I get it," he said, his tone comforting. "Meeting new people can be nerve-wracking, and our bodies have interesting ways of letting us know. But you know what? You're doing great, sweetheart, and I'm here with you. We'll take it one step at a time, and I promise we'll have a good time together. So, let's embrace the adventure, nerves and all, and see what the night has in store for us, okay?"
Y/N nodded thankfully, the knot loosening up a little. “Thanks baby”. The world stopped in Remus’ perspective at the pet name but he just nodded and kissed her cheek. He helped. He was a warm blanket after a long day even when moments like those weren’t happening. Comfort.
They eventually got to James’ place; the loud music coming from the two floor house making Y/N feel even more at ease. It radiated a warm, welcoming energy even before stepping in. Maybe it wouldn’t be that bad.
“Deep breath”. They both took a breath before approaching the door and knocking, the wine Remus’ plus one brought close to breaking with the force she was holding it with. A bright smile opened the door, hugging Remus immediately. “You have no idea how happy I am you’re here Moony”.
Y/N smiled sweetly at the nickname the boy had for his best mate. She didn’t know where it came from but James seemed to be the sun reflecting on the moon. On Moony. The girl knew Remus’ light was enough to outshine the sun itself, but the comparison seemed cute.
“You must be Y/N! He can’t shut up about you. Can I hug you? It’s okay if not, Sirius says I need to ask before hugging people but I just love it so much I cannot help myself” He rambled, making her giggle as she uttered a small ‘It’s okay’ and hugged the boy. She noticed Remus staring and just winked at him. “Is that cake I smell?” Y/N grinned, peeking inside before James stepped aside to let them both in.
“Yes, come inside! My wife, Lily, has just finished baking her chocolate cake recipe. It’s bloody brilliant! Harry’s favorite in his short lived culinary experience. You gotta meet him too!” Moony stayed behind, cherishing the way James’ warm welcome made Y/N feel a little more comfortable; her shoulders relaxed as well as her grip on the wine bottle.
He stepped in, hanging his coat on the rack he helped Lily choose when his best friends bought the house. Rapid steps came running down the stairs, and before he turned around, the smell of cigarettes and leather filled his nostrils. “Hello Pads” he smirked, hugging his friend tightly.
“Hey Moons! Did the missus come?” “Yes, she’s outside with James and Lily-“. He was cut short when his best friend, (his eyeliner wearing, muscled, rocker, tattooed, charming best friend) ran all the way into the garden to greet the girl. He was head over heels over.
A new feeling settled into his chest. An unpleasant one. Sirius was a dream. Remus was just good old Remus. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck! He sighed heavily, ran a hand through his hair, and then covered his mouth. Y/N was not one to be too forward, but the way Sirius looked and acted could easily make her reconsider.
It got worse when he heard her loud laugh coming from the garden, followed by a chuckle that unmistakably came from Sirius. His best friend would never do it on purpose, but then again, his charm was never used on purpose. It just sort of happened. Remus sighed and walked outside to find the girl saying hi to Harry.
The toddler had his tiny hand wrapped around the girl's fingers, babbling incoherencies, as Y/N had a full conversation with him. "Are you sure?" she asked and Harry answered nonsense as the girl nodded back. She looked up at Remus coming through the sliding door. "Remus, he's the cutest thing I've ever seen!".
He laughed and walked over to her. The girl immediately wrapped her hands around his arm and hugged him tightly. James winked at Moony and went inside as the conversation ensued, Sirius teasing Remus about the girl he "brought home".
Soon, Y/N was well adapted to their friend's sense of humour and was joking around with Lily about how dumb they could all be. Despite Y/N's worries, it all went by smoothly. The one he got along with the most was James; he loved asking questions, and she loved answering them.
Remus had always loved her laugh; Seeing his best friends being the cause of it made it even better. "I'm telling you, he's insane!" Sirius laughed, bouncing his leg up and down as Harry sat on his lap giggling. "He's an absolute sweetheart" Y/N answered, kissing Remus' cheek as his best friends tried putting dirt (rightfully deserved dirt) on his name.
"Wait until you know him just a tiny bit better. You'll get to see his menacing self... got us in a shit ton of trouble back in school" James chuckled, making Remus roll his eyes and trying to divert her attention by asking if she wanted a bit more cake.
During their evening, Y/N kept a tight grasp on Remus’ hand while smiling at his friend’s jokes. When it was his turn to laugh, Sirius noticed how the girl looked intently over at Remus with a grin on her face. His eyes looked gorgeous in the sun with those little wrinkles when he giggled, she thought.
In that moment, she realized she wanted Remus to say her name as you’re supposed to say it; sleepily, with a mouth full of food, between laughters and in tears. Y/N saw the specks of brown in the amber colored lake that his eyes were and fell completely. Sirius saw it, James saw it, Lily saw it.
Even more when he turned to look down at her and wipe a bit of chocolate off her cheek, and she kept that look of utter adoration for him. “He’s gone” Lily mumbled to her husband. “She’s too” he agreed. Sirius smirked, getting up to get Harry to bed as he fell asleep on his uncle’s arms as the sun set.
James and Sirius were at the center of attention, regaling the group with a hilarious story from their time at school. Their voices were animated, and they gesticulated with enthusiasm, drawing everyone into their tale. Remus stood nearby, a mix of amusement and mild embarrassment evident on his face.
"And then, there was this one time at Hogwarts," James began, a mischievous glint in his eyes, "when we decided to prank the entire Slytherin common room! We turned all their robes into neon pink ones!"
Sirius chimed in, laughter bubbling in his voice. "Oh, it was epic! They all looked like walking flamingos! The look on their faces was priceless!"
Y/N was thoroughly entertained by the story, but she couldn't help but notice Remus's subtle blush. She leaned closer to him and whispered teasingly, "Remus, were you part of this grand pink robe conspiracy too?"
Remus grinned, shaking his head. "I plead the fifth," he replied, trying to hide his amusement. "Let's just say those were wild times, and I may or may not have been an innocent bystander."
Y/N laughed, enjoying the playful banter. She was captivated by the camaraderie and genuine friendship between the group. As the evening continued, she found herself drawn into more anecdotes and laughter, feeling a sense of warmth and acceptance in their company.
Remus's friends made her feel welcome and included, and she couldn't help but feel grateful for being a part of this close-knit circle, even if she didn't know the full extent of their world. The nerves that had accompanied her earlier had transformed into excitement and a genuine desire to create new memories with Remus and his friends.
The feeling was reciprocated. Remus felt, and not on mere theory; the moment Y/N excused herself to go to the bathroom, his best friends started gushing to him about the girl. "Moony, she's in love" Sirius said between incredulous and joyous laugh "Oh Pad-" "Mate, I'm telling you... she looks at you like you hung the bloody stars!" now said James, Lily nodding pridefully "She looks at you just how James looked at me back in the day".
And Merlin did he want to believe them! He truly, really did. But instead, there was this empty feeling on his chest. There was no way Y/N Y/L/N looked at him in the way James looked at Lily; Almost scared of the joy she brought to him, like that pain in his heart would end up killing him and he'd quite literally die a happy man. So, when Remus dropped her off at her flat and turned his head before she'd kiss him on the mouth, the void went deeper.
*:・゚✧*:・゚✧
Y/N couldn't sleep that night. Her mind was restless, thoughts of Remus swirling in her head like a tempest. She tossed and turned, replaying the events of the evening over and over again, each memory etching itself into her heart. There was no denying it anymore; she was utterly and completely in love with him.
The realization hit her like a wave crashing onto the shore, powerful and unstoppable; she was head over heels for Remus Lupin.
The next day, Y/N couldn't concentrate on anything. Her mind kept drifting back to Remus, like she'd could easily find herself absentmindedly doodling hearts and his name on the margins of her notebook. She needed to tell him; she couldn't keep this to herself any longer.
In the late afternoon, she gathered her courage and dialed his number, her heart pounding in her chest as she waited for him to pick up. When he finally answered, his warm voice on the other end sent shivers down her spine.
"Hey, Remus," she began, trying to sound casual despite the turmoil inside her. "I was wondering if we could meet up later? There's something I want to talk to you about." Remus's response was filled with concern. "Of course, love. Is everything alright?" "Yes, everything's fine," she reassured him. "I just... I have something to tell you, something important."
He agreed to meet at their favorite cafe later that evening, and Y/N's heart fluttered with nervous excitement. The minutes leading up to their meeting felt like an eternity, but finally, the time came. When they sat down together, Y/N took a deep breath, trying to steady her racing heart. Remus looked at her with those caring, gentle eyes, and she felt a rush of emotions wash over her.
"Remus," she began, her voice trembling slightly. "I don't even know where to start. Y-you've brought so much magic into my life. From the moment we met, I felt something special, something I couldn't quite put into words."
He listened intently, his gaze never leaving hers.
"I've never felt this way before," she continued, her cheeks flushing with emotion. "You're like a beautiful enigma, a captivating mystery that I can't get enough of. You make me laugh, you make me feel safe and cherished, and every moment with you is a treasure. You've shown me a kind of magic that I never knew existed, a magic that exists in the little things, the stolen glances, the shared laughter, and the way you hold my hand. It's like you've cast a spell on me, and I never want it to end."
Remus's eyes softened, and a tender smile graced his lips. "Y/N, you're the most incredible person I've ever met," he replied, his voice filled with emotion. "From the moment I saw your ink-stained hands, I knew you were something special. You've brought light into my life, and I can't believe that someone as amazing as you could feel this way about me."
He reached across the table and took her hand in his, their fingers interlocking like two puzzle pieces, finding their perfect fit.
"I'm not good with grand gestures or flowery words," he said, his voice a whisper. "But I can tell you this: I care about you deeply, more than I ever thought possible. You make me happy like I never imagined I'd could feel. I've fallen in love with you, Y/N, and I can't believe my luck."
Y/N's heart soared, tiny tears of joy welling up in her eyes. "Oh, Remus," she murmured, her voice choked with emotion. "I'm so in love with you too. You've shown me a kind of love I never knew existed, a love that feels like coming home. I cherish every moment with you, and I want to share my time with you, if you'll have me."
Without hesitation, Remus leaned across the table, closing the distance between them, and pressed a soft, tender kiss to her lips. It was a kiss filled with love and promise, sealing their feelings and intentions.
"I'd be honored to have you in my life, Y/N," he whispered against her lips. "You're my bit of magic in a world that can be harsh and uncertain, and I never want to let you go."
And so, in that cozy cafe, two souls found solace in each other's love. The world around them faded into the background as they basked in the enchantment of their newfound love, knowing that this kind of magic was unlike any other they had ever known. They had found something truly extraordinary in each other, a love that would stand the test of time and shine brighter than any star in the night sky.
the girl with the books | r.l
Tumblr media
pairings: remus lupin x reader (she/her pronouns) genre(s): marauder era, strangers to lovers, fluff, humour summary: james and sirius notice that it’s not the books that keep remus in the library, and are determined to know whether you – the object of remus’s affection – return his feelings. word count: 3.0k warning(s): none note: this is a 2022 update of the fic of the same name that i wrote back in 2016! my writing has improved by leaps and bounds and i couldn’t help but edit and improve the fic that a few of you seemed to really love :) i hope you enjoy it if you liked the original, or that you find something new to read
The Hogwarts library was the place where you found the most solace. Even on the few days that the Scottish countryside provided undisturbed sunshine, like today, you preferred to curl up with a book on one of the grand wooden tables. You enjoyed your time in the library; reading fiction or researching different topics that you were curious about. While your friends encouraged you to enjoy the warm day with them, you easily waved them off in favour of the dimly lit library.
Remus Lupin could be found in the library as often as you, except it wasn’t the books that kept him coming back. The sight of you sitting in a corner reading by yourself was enough to draw his attention every few minutes. He couldn’t even help himself, his eyes had no choice in the way they continually found your figure, but he was in no place to complain.
Remus sat with his three best friends at the other end of the library, and they were less than happy to be spending the first sunny day of spring in the library rather than bothering the giant squid in the black lake. Now that the weather was no longer freezing, Sirius and James were desperate to cause some mischief, and Peter was happy to comply.
“What is it that you find so fascinating about a hall full of books?” Sirius inquired, lifting a book up from the table, grimacing at the idea of spending his free time reading, and carelessly dropping it back onto the table.
Remus flinched as the sound resonated throughout the library, capturing your attention as you gave the four friends an inquisitive look. For a moment, Remus held his breath, unable to tear his eyes away from you as you gave him a speck of casual attention. Realising it was just James Potter and his friends messing around, you happily returned to your reading without a second thought.
“It’s not about the books, Padfoot,” Remus snapped quietly, glancing away with reddened cheeks, the heat of your gaze on him still warming his body. “And I didn’t force you to be here,” he reminded.
“Well, no,” Sirius sighed. “But it’s terribly tragic for you to spend the first nice day Hogwarts has seen in-“
“A decade,” James chimed in, exaggerating to help Sirius make a point.
“A decade,” Sirius agreed with a nod. “Inside a hall full of books instead of playing outside with us! As your friend, it’s our duty to convince you to abandon this wretched place and do something more fun.”
“Well said, Padfoot,” James agreed, tall frame spread languidly across three chairs in a makeshift bed. “Dare I say, revolutionary. So, black lake, Moony?”
“I’m perfectly content here, thank you very much,” Remus refused, thoroughly entertained by James and Sirius’s usual dramatics.
“Who could be content in such an oppressive place,” Sirius complained, as if he himself didn’t have good grades and didn’t spend time studying in this very library. “Other than Lily,” he added, recognising the smitten glint in James’s eyes that he got every time he brought her up.
“She’s so responsible, my lovely Lily,” James sighed, pleased with himself. “I’m going to marry that girl, just you wait and see. It’s the only reason I come to the library with her.”
“You come to the library to chat up Lily? No wonder you aren’t dating yet,” Sirius teased. As James and Sirius went back and forth poking fun at each other, Peter pondered Remus’s words.
“If you’re not here for the books, what are you here for?” Peter wondered aloud, causing Sirius and James to glance expectantly at their friend.
Remus rolled his eyes, intending to fabricate a fantastic comeback that would distract his three friends, but even the thought of you caused his stare to drift back to where you were, now getting up to choose a different book to check out of the library.
He loved the way you did that. Even if you finished a book in your time at the library, you always made sure to bring a book with you.
Remus loved the way you did everything, really. He had always liked you, ever since you loaned him a quill when he forgot his during Defence Against the Dark Arts. Even now, it was his favourite class just because it made him think of you.
“Moony?” Sirius waved a hand in front of Remus’s face in an attempt to grab his attention. “Remus, what are you staring at?” he followed Remus’s gaze and saw exactly what he was staring at. “Oh,” he said, finally connecting all the very obvious clues together. “It’s not a what, it’s a who,” Sirius practically giggled with glee.
James’s head snapped in your direction, scrambling to sit up and launch himself next to Sirius in an effort to get a good look at you. This commotion once again drew your attention, leading James and Sirius to act as naturally as they could. They picked up the books stacked in front of them and made a big deal out of reading the text aloud, the act so comical and over-the-top that it couldn’t possibly be convincing.
You grinned to yourself, shaking your head in amusement, and slipped behind a bookshelf to look over the Herbology section. Frank Longbottom had recommended a delightful title on growing Dittany and other healing herbs, and you took the older boy’s recommendations very seriously.
Once you were out of sight, James tossed his book thoughtlessly aside, snatching Remus’s book from his grasp to gain his undivided attention. “Who is that, Moony my dear?” James asked, adjusting his glasses. They had slipped down his nose when he whipped his head around to look at you, and the act had made the boy a little dizzy.
“Who?” Remus asked, knowing that his performance was pitiful and unconvincing, and pretending not to understand regardless of this fact. “What do you mean?”
Frustrated that Remus was lying, and subsequently that he was an absolutely terrible liar, Sirius exclaimed, “The girl you were staring at!”
“Who is that girl? Do you know her?” James asked excitedly, taking a more enthusiastic approach than Sirius in hopes that it would make Remus open up about his crush.
“Girl?” Remus repeated, squinted as if he was giving this conversation a real good thought, before widening his eyes sarcastically. “I don’t know what you’re talking about, sorry boys.”
James and Sirius shared a look – having a silent conversation that Remus would promptly regret keeping them in the dark about his crush – before rolling their eyes and sighing. They had decided it: they were just going to have to catch you when Remus was gone.
A few hours later, it had darkened considerably since you first entered the library, and once you realised that you had been hauled up in the library for a considerable amount of time, you realised how hungry you were. Perhaps camping out in the library all day without a proper lunch wasn’t your best idea, but at least you knew dinner would be ready soon.
Rising, you stretched your legs before collecting all the books you had flicked through that day and moving to stow them back in their original places on the tall Hogwarts library shelves. Most of them were within a reasonable reach, slotting easily into their previous spots as you strolled happily throughout the library. However, one of the books was at a considerably higher place on the shelf, and you couldn’t put it away even on the tips of your toes.
With a huff of frustration, you stood flat on your feet and were about to reach for your wand when someone took the book from your grasp. “Here,” a voice said from behind you. “Let me help you with that!”
You turned just in time to see Sirius Black easily putting your book away for you, his friend James Potter standing nearby with an uncharacteristic spring in his step. Though James and Sirius were always a ball of energy in the classes you shared with them, the grins they sported today were difficult to identify. Perhaps mischievous would be the best way to describe the perfect simpers on their faces.
“Thanks,” you acknowledged his help with furrowed brows, wondering what Sirius and James could possibly be so ecstatic about. When the two boys simply stared at you, unmoving, you figured that they wanted something from you. “Did you two need something?” you asked, their unwavering smiles growing slightly unnerving.
“Oh!” Sirius seemed to realise that they were staring at you, and how disturbing this might be to a girl they had hardly spoken to. “Right! Yes, actually. We wanted to have a word with you.”
“Okay,” you nodded as if this wasn’t unusual. James and Sirius certainly didn’t seem to think their behaviour was odd, so you figured they were harmless on this particular occasion.
“We were just wondering if you knew Remus,” James explained himself, barely keeping still with excitement. “I mean, you do know him, don’t you?”
You nodded, still weary of where the conversation was leading. Sirius and James were known to be pranksters, and you weren’t sure if you were the next victim of one of their jokes. “Yes, I know Remus,” you confirmed. “He’s your friend, right? I speak to him sometimes when we’re in the library at the same time.” When Sirius and James linked hands and started jumping up and down, utter confusion overwhelmed you. “Uh, why do you ask?”
Noticing your discomfort, James and Sirius stopped jumping in favour of smiling at you. “I’m sorry, what was your name again? We share a few classes but between listening to the Professor and keeping James in check it can be hard to keep up,” Sirius said, his natural charisma making him instantly likeable.
“Y/n,” you introduced yourself.
“Nice to meet you, Y/n,” James said politely. “Now, this may seem quite blunt, but we want to set you up with our friend Remus,” he said matter-of-factly, followed by an encouraging nod from Sirius.
Your eyes widened at the confession. “Oh,” you said awkwardly. “I’m not going to lie, I had no idea that’s what you were going to say.”
“We have that effect on people,” said James, nodding sympathetically, as if people often had this reaction to the things they said. “So? What do you say? Give our mate Remus a chance?”
“Oh, I don’t think that’s a good idea,” you shook your head, trying to smile politely.
The smiles on Sirius and James’s faces faded. “Why not?” Sirius inquired, tilting his head to the side as he observed your nervous expression. “Do you not like Remus?”
“Why wouldn’t you like Remus?” James added, appalled and affronted at the mere idea of someone not liking their best friend. “You like reading, don’t you? Well, Remus might even have you beat! He’s the world’s biggest bookworm.”
“Incorrigible,” Sirius agreed. “Can’t get him out of this bloody library. And you aren’t helping, either,” he added.
“I’m not?”
“Of course not!” James exclaimed. “You only keep him here even longer than usual! Even on a day as lovely as this.”
“Perfect for wasting time,” sighed Sirius, lamenting the wonderful day outside they had missed out on. “So, how come you don’t like Remus?”
“That’s not it,” you said hurriedly, struggling to get a word in amongst their quick banter. “It’s just,” you sighed. “Why are you asking me this anyway?” you changed the subject, hoping it would take some of the heat off of you.
Luckily for you, it worked. “Well, Remus seems to have developed a crush on you,” James said casually, as if he wasn’t bearing one of his best friends’ deepest secret. Well, second deepest secret. “It’s really quite adorable. All the typical crush symptoms. You know, longing gazes,” James began listing the many qualities he had noticed in Remus during the last few hours. “Romantic, hopeless sighing whenever you’re around, losing focus, refusing to play with his best friends even on a day as perfect as this.”
“The list goes on!” Sirius exclaimed. You had to smile at the two friends, not only were they quite comical, but they seemed to be buzzing with endless energy. “I think it would benefit you to give Remus a chance. He’s rather attractive, our friend.”
“Though, not as attractive as us,” James added, winking to show that he was joking.
“Well we can’t hold everyone to such impossible standards,” Sirius said sympathetically, nodding to himself. “Still, he’s quite attractive! Charming and kind, too. All the things girls like. So are you in?”
“Well,” you stammered, feeling your face burning with embarrassment when you saw how intently Sirius and James were looking at you.
To save you from your answer, the sound of Remus’s footsteps and voice interrupted your sentence. “What are you boys still doing here,” he froze when he came into view, noticing the way Sirius and James had cornered you. “Y/n?” he asked, the picture of you hanging out with his two best friends nothing short of foreign and unfamiliar. Remus sighed in annoyance when he saw Sirius and James exchange guilty faces. “What have these two told you?” he asked you, already dreading your answer.
“We didn’t tell her much,” Sirius said, quick to defend their actions. “We’ve just been… talking,” he added, purposely leaving out the subject matter. James nodded rigorously, smiling innocently at Remus with visible panic in his eyes.
“I’ll talk to you both later,” Remus said to his friend, tone firm and borderline scolding. Then, he faced you with what looked like an apologetic smile. “Do you need help putting that away?” he asked, nudging his head to the last two books in your arms
You smiled, instantly more comfortable now that Remus was there. With a nod, you left Sirius and James behind in favour of putting your books away. “Listen,” Remus began, gently taking your books and putting them on the correct shelf in the Herbology section. “I’m really sorry for whatever Sirius and James said,” he let out a nervous laugh, easily reaching the high shelves thanks to his tall height.
“Don’t be,” you shrugged, charmed by Remus’s very presence. Something about Remus’s gentle spirit contrasted comfortably with Sirius and James’s craziness, and it settled your heart in a wonderful way. “They meant well, I think,” you smiled up at Remus. “Your friends are really nice.”
“I wouldn’t say nice, perhaps deranged is more accurate,” Remus joked, a pleased smile gracing his lips when you laughed. “But they’re pretty great. I can always count on them to say things I’m too scared to say,” he admitted, trailing off into a comfortable silence.
“I don’t know about them being deranged, but they did have some interesting things to say,” you admitted, fully intending to tease Remus once you realised his friends were telling the truth. He really did have a crush on you. “All about crushes, and longing gazes,” you added, grinning when you saw Remus turn slightly pink at your insinuation.
Remus groaned, lifting his hands to cover his face in embarrassment. “Oh Merlin,” he muttered, nervous laughter bubbling from his mouth. “I’m so sorry! If anything they said made you uncomfortable, I’m so sorry.”
“Don’t be,” you shook your head. “I wasn’t uncomfortable. Stunned by the sheer force of their energy? Definitely. But not uncomfortable. I guess it was just hard to believe,” you admitted. “Still is, really.”
“What, that I fancy you?” Remus asked, uncovering his eyes once you assured him that you weren’t upset. “Why is that hard to believe?”
“I don’t know, you’re… Remus Lupin,” you explained terribly. “You’re a Gryffindor and you’re funny and popular. Your friends didn’t even know what my name was and I’ve been in your class for nearly six years now,” you recalled, shrugging your shoulders good-naturedly.
“Sirius and James hardly remember their own names, I wouldn’t take it personally,” Remus wisecracked, though there was a seriousness in his eyes that made you believe his words. “Besides, the trouble is only just starting!” he added. “Now that they know your name, you won’t be able to get rid of them.”
“Sounds terrifying,” you joked back, grinning.
“There’s no escaping those two,” Remus said dramatically. “I’ve been trying to shake them for six years now, but they don’t seem to care.”
“Maybe I should change my name,” you offered.
“Why didn’t I think of that?” Remus burst out, laughing at your banter. You grinned at each other, so absorbed with the other person that you didn’t notice Sirius and James poke their heads around the shelf to eavesdrop on your conversation. “Y/n, do you think,” Remus paused, intimidated by the adorable way in which you turned your head and smiled at him. You were overwhelmingly perfect, and it was really starting to distract the poor boy. “Would you maybe…”
“Would I maybe?” you encouraged.
“Would you maybe want to go to Hogsmeade with me? This upcoming weekend? If you’re not busy that weekend, I mean,” Remus said, barely getting the words out without struggling.
“Oh,” the smile on your face widened almost impossibly so. “I think I might be busy,” Remus’s face dropped, eyes averting to his feet to hide his disappointment. “Changing my name to avoid these two boys I just met. However, their friend is pretty cute, so perhaps I could postpone my plans,” you added quickly, not wanting your joke to go badly.
Remus’s head rose quickly to meet your eyes, a relieved sigh leaving him. “Really?” he asked rhetorically, and before you could confirm your answer, you heard loud cheering come from beside you. Within seconds, James and Sirius leapt out from behind you and tackled Remus into a hug.
“Yeah Remus!”
“That’s our best friend!”
“Our best friend is finally going on a date!”
“Don’t scare her off,” Remus warned, pushing James away as he started peppering kisses across his face. “Seriously, stop it,” he laughed, not meaning a single word.
“No,” Sirius said proudly, pulling you in to join their hug. “Y/n’s just going to have to get used to us.”
You quite liked the sound of that.
Tumblr media
Remus had just performed a sold out concert with his fellow band mates — the Marauders. Now, he was at an after party, filled to the brim with groupies, celebrities, music producers, etc. But he only wanted to find you, to take you home and sleep.
He was exhausted and as much as he loved being famous and well known, Remus enjoyed performing and making music more than going to parties.
The sandy haired boy attempted to find you in the crowd, but alas could not. Where did you go? He thought, turning every corner as if it was a labyrinth. With every part of Sirius’ mansion, more people were in his way.
Meanwhile, Marlene, Dorcas, and Alice had taken you after the concert. The girls wanted to get to the after party as soon as possible. Alice had her hopes up to see the new A-list actor, Frank Longbottom. Marlene and Dorcas, already together and in the music industry themselves, promised to introduce the two.
While Alice was chatting up Frank, and Marlene and Dorcas were busy making out in a broom closet, you had gotten bored and missed Remus. So you indulged in a few drinks.
Stepping outside, the cold night air made Remus smile. Inside the house was hot and sticky. He smiled when he spotted you, a red solo cup in your hand. You were laughing and Remus walked towards you.
“Hey love,” he said, a hand going on the small of your back. You turned to him and smiled drunkenly.
“Remus!” You exclaimed, a crooked smile taking over your face. “I missed you so much! I’ve been looking for you since the concert ended!”
The boy could tell that you’d had a few drinks and we’re definitely not sober.
“I’ve been looking for you too Y/n,” he replied. “Want to head home?” He asked.
“No!” You whined, your head dropping. “Wanna stay and play beer pong!” You smiled.
Remus could never say no to you and especially wouldn’t say no to the cute smile you wore at the moment.
“Alright lovie, one round of beer pong and then I’m taking you home,” he said, compromising.
You nodded, it only being fair. “Oh alright,” you said, standing up and almost losing you balance. But not to worry, Remus was there to catch you in an instant.
“Are you sure you can play beer pong like this?” He asked with a little smirk. You pouted and looked a little annoyed. The crinkle on your forehead—that Remus adored — showed.
“Yes. I can play.” You insisted.
One round of beer pong later, you had sobered up some but not entirely. Remus was by your side the entire game, helping you decide which shots to make. Which James wasn’t very happy about, seeing as competitive he was. Frank and Alice were near the table but not big fans of the game, as they were too busy falling in love. James won the game, winning over a kiss from Lily.
At the end of the game you were beat and still a little drunk. You wanted to go home. As you were leaning against Remus for support, he looked down at you.
“I think we should head home love,” he said, grabbing you by the waist and picking you up into his arms. You nudged your head into his neck. “Alright, Remmy,” you mumbled tiredly.
Once in the car, you passed out. Remus laughed to himself at your drunken state, knowing full well you would be hung over in the morning.
“Come on love, we’re home,” he said, unbuckling your seat belt. You woke up, a bit drowsy and super clingy.
“I’m tried Remmy,” you pouted, leaning into his strong body. He wrapped his arms around you and led you into the house.
“We’re going to get you to bed lovie. Promise,” he said, kissing your forehead.
Once at your bedroom, Remus sat you down on your shared bed and helped you into your sleep clothes. He gave you a glass of water aswell. All the while, you reached out for Remus’ touch.
“Wanna hold you,” you pouted, already in your night clothes. Which consisted of one of Remus’ old sweaters and sleep shorts.
Remus undressed himself and hopped into bed just wearing his boxers. He pulled you to him immediately, waisting no time in holding you.
“Well maybe I wanna hold you?” He teased, kissing your hair.
You turned to him and smiled lazily, sleepiness coming over you. “You did so well tonight Remus. Greatest rockstar ever!” You said, kissing his nose.
Remus wrapped you tighter in his arms and kissed your forehead. “Thanks Y/n, performed for you and only you,” he said, looking at you like you were the only thing that mattered to him.
Because you were.
Cuddling with young lupin and reading books ❤❤
sleepy snuggles ; remus lupin
Tumblr media
➳ 𝐧𝐚𝐯𝐢.
synopsis: "Cuddling with young lupin and reading books" yes🤍.
warnings: foul language, pet names [dove, my love, darlin'], MOONY <3, unedited
reader's pronouns: they/them
"hey moons," y/n greeted as they entered remus's dorm room.
the teen looked up and smiled. "hey darlin'. whaddaya doin'?"
grabbing a fluffy crimson blanket from james's bed, y/n shrugged. finally approching the teen, they kicked off their shoes and climbed into remus's bed rather ungracefully and finally flopped into the embrace of open-armed remus.
"missed ya," y/n murmured into remus's chest.
remus couldn't help but smile. "i woulda missed you more if you'd 'ave brought some food, dove."
moony smothers a laugh when y/n hits him on the chest.
"watcha readin'?" y/n asks through a yawn. they turned their head so one ear was placed by remus's heart.
remus shrugged. "uhh..." he turned the cover so it was facing him. "catcher in the rye by j.d. salinger," he replied.
y/n hummed. "read ta me. i need a nap."
"you always need a nap," remus uttered as he rested his forearms and hands on y/n's back and opened the paperback. "i suddenly remembered this time, in around October, that I and Robert Tichener and Paul Campbell were chucking a football around especially Tichener."
"fuck, okay, stop, that's boring," y/n groaned, weakly waving a hand.
remus snorted. "well yeah, it's a book mcgonagall brought up and was houndin' me about readin'," remus explains, tucking a bookmark into the pages. it's funny to remember the times when remus visibly recoiled when seeing a book.
"cuddle with me, m'love." y/n said through another yawn.
"then c'mere," remus replied, urging y/n closer. y/n easily burrowed their face into remus's neck after pressing a kiss to the scars marring remus's skin. remus wrapped his arms around y/n.
"i think i'm in love with ya, darlin'." remus whispered into the quiet air.
"i love you too, moony," y/n said. remus could hear the smile in their voice. whether or not because they won the bet between them, sirius, james, peter, marlene, and lily of when remus would say the 'L' word first, he didnt know, but was content with just living in the moment.
🪐 bonus:
"i found 'em!" james screamed.
remus jolted up, causing y/n to mumble something about shutting the fuck up and letting them sleep and then pressing themself closer to remus than he previously thought possible.
"how ya doin', moony? keepin' it pg? we been- mate that's ma fuckin' blanket! you better not've been bustin' it down anywhere near my blanket!" james hollered.
remus flipped him off, and layed back down, internally chuckling as james walked out of the room grumbling something about human decency and 'fuckin' roomies and their fuckin' groupies'.
just imagine …
you and remus sit on either end of the sofa in the gryffindor common room. your legs are entangled while you both read your favourite books. from time to time, you look over the edge of your book, noticing the way remus' eyes were scanning the pages, the tip of his tongue sometimes poking out as he concentrates on the story. remus does the same. he can't help himself. he sees the way you smile at whatever is currently happening in your story, making him smile as well. he is lucky to call you his and it makes him happy that the two of you have so much in common. you don't really care about anyone else in the common room, not even remus' best friend's, james and sirius, can disturb your peace. when both of you finish your books, you cuddle up in the middle of the sofa, instantly talking about what you thought of your stories, sharing sweet kisses in between talking about it. you sit there until the common room was almost empty, only a few students who had forgotten to do their homework were still sitting around. remus accompanies you to your dormitory, kissing you goodnight before he makes his way to his own room.
unlucky.
remus lupin x reader | 2k words (requests are open)
marijuana, alcohol, mentions of addiction issues, pregnancy.
Remus Lupin turned up early from work. It was rare he was home early like this. Considering how strict Werewolf Disclosure laws were getting in the workplace, Remus found a job at a Muggle pub evenings. His days were spent working on a comprehensive and illustrated guide to using defensive spells against blokes you don’t like. Remus thought he would never finish it, but if he did, he imagined it would sell well to a publisher.
It was rare he was home early like this.
Remus stepped through the door and kicked off his boots and hung his heavy brown corduroy coat on the coatrack. He assumed he was alone. He worked evenings, his girlfriend worked two jobs most days. Childcare near Diagon Alley in the morning, shopkeeping at Aurel and Arnie’s Auditory Alternatives: Music, Noise and Audible Toys. Remus hated how hard [Y/N] felt she had to work, but he didn’t do much to alleviate it these days.
He knew that [Y/N] wouldn’t be home for a while yet. It was typical that their schedules didn’t line up like this. Sighing, Remus sat down on the couch and reached for the blue-green bong sitting on the coffee table to pack a bowl.
Then, Remus heard a sniffle from the next room. His brow furrowed (a familiar position for his brow to be in). He took a rip off the bong before setting it down on the table. With a quick cough, Remus stood shakily from the couch and proceed to the bedroom. Without knocking, he opened the door. “Love?” Remus muttered, coughing again.
[Y/N] sighed in bed and rolled over. She was laying on top of the sheets, still in her work clothes from Aural and Arnie’s down to the beat up black leather boots. [Y/N] moaned and rolled over to face the door. “‘The hell are you doing here?”
“I live here. I sleep,” Remus pointed at his side of the bed and leaned against the doorframe. “There. The hell are you doing here too?”
“Went home early.” [Y/N] said flatly.
Remus nodded smartly. “Ah, yeah. Didn’t realize,” He said sarcastically. Remus sat on the edge of the bed and started to untie the laces on [Y/N]’s dragon-leather boots. “Me too.”
“‘S’wrong? Feeling ill?” [Y/N] asked, almost beginning to sit up. She hadn’t thought it was so close to the full moon that he would be in any pain, but things still came up. Lycanthropy was sort of like a chronic illness and both were used to treating it that way.
Remus shook his head, amazed by how she cared enough to ask. “Nah, just some new boys that needed training. They sent me home after. Easy shift’s all, like.” Remus set each of her boots on the floor with a firm thunk. “Why’re you back?”
[Y/N] shrugged.
Remus shrugged back at her. “Oh, we’re goin’ ta do that?” He shrugged again. “Just,” he shrugged a third time. “That?”
[Y/N] shrugged again. “Mhmm.”
The shrug joke hadn’t even made a smile appear on [Y/N]’s soft lips. Shit like that usually worked. Remus cocked his head.
“Cuppa tea?” Remus asked once he figured out this subject wasn’t going anywhere. He patted her on the leg as he stood up to move to the kitchen.
“RJ, you don’t have to…” [Y/N] rarely called him much else other than the nickname RJ. He loved it.
“No, ‘want to,” Remus replied, moving out of the room into their small kitchen. “You feeling okay, love? Something the matter?” He shouted down the small hallway towards the bedroom while he willed the kettle. Remus set the kettle on the burner. He was going to make her a nice strong cup of earl grey with a bit of whiskey in it, like he always did. Remus felt that he was dreadful at comforting his lover, but he knew it helped when did that. So this would be a start.
[Y/N] was silent in reply.
“[Y/N]?” Remus said.
Nothing.
“[Y/N]? Darlin’?” He repeated. Remus trodded back down the hall. [Y/N] was curled up on the bed, face down on the pillow.
This wasn’t [Y/N]. She never did this. Normally, she was up and working like a machine. Reading ferociously. Helping Remus make lunch. Trying to out-drink him on Saturday nights. Riding on the back of Sirius’s bike when she was the only one brave enough to try it out during that fateful first week. Remus’s eyes widened. He sat at the foot of the bed again, “[Y/N], hey. What’s wrong, love?” Remus said, placing a hand on her bare ankle. “You can talk to me, if you feel like it. Did something happen?” Remus would become inconsolable if it was his fault, so he prayed it wasn’t that. Or god forbid someone had hurt her.
“Remus, please.”
That almost aggravated him. “Please what? What the bloody hell’s that mean?”
“Merlin, sorry for trying to be polite.” She answered.
Remus sighed at his own temper and pinched the bridge of his nose. “Don’t need to be no sorry, but tell me what you need.”
“Just leave me alone. I feel like shit; I don’t wanna rub off on you.”
“If you’re sick, I can pop by Molly’s and get a tonic or some shit— I… Are you ill?”
[Y/N] hauled her face out of the pillow. “RJ, I’m pregnant,” Her words knocked all the air from Remus’s belly. His eyes widened and his lips thinned. He inhaled sharply. All of this, and he still had no words. “Stay or don’t, then. I need to lay here and have a think for a while. I didn’t want it to happen like this, and you may not like it, but there it is,” She snapped. “If you’re leaving, lock the door on your way out and leave the key under the mat.” [Y/N] said and flopped her head back down away from Remus.
She had wanted to be able to tell him comfortably and sweetly, like some good wife in a movie, when they were grown up and married and ready and when there wasn’t a war waging outside. Or maybe even never having to tell him at all. Being a mother was not on her radar. But here she was.
Remus was stunned. He blinked. Never had he wanted to be a father. Men like Remus Lupin simply weren’t fathers. “I see.” Without another word, Remus stood up to fetch the kettle before it let out that infernal sound. His thoughts raced beyond measure. How could he do this? How could [Y/N]? Remus wanted to throw up. He also wanted to smile. He couldn’t seem to do either.
He prepared two mugs of his Irish-bottom tea and strode back to the bedroom. When Remus sat down on his side of the bed with the mugs, [Y/N] looked up. Her eyes were wet with tears. It was obvious to Remus that [Y/N] had assumed he had left; done the whole key under the mat song and dance.
“You’re still here?” She asked softly.
“‘Course. Cuppa?” Remus said with flat nerves. He gently extended the cup to her with a shaking hand.
“On the nightstand, please,” [Y/N] sniffled and Remus obliged. “It’s… It’s yours, obviously.”
“I know.”
The two were silent, save Remus sipping his tea as his high really began to kick in.
“Shall I get rid of it, then?”
“What?”
A surprised pause. [Y/N] stared at Remus. He never said what he was thinking. She always wondered what was happening in that head of his.
“No way we’re able to… You know. At least right now. And I know my parents were young, but RJ, I feel like I’m still a little girl and—.”
Remus’s head felt heavy. He shook his head. “But Lily and James—“
“I’ve been thinking about them too. How the fuck are they managing this…” [Y/N] chiefly held back another wave of tears.
Remus set his free hand on her back and clumsily moved it back and forth in circles in an attempt at comfort. He set his mug down on the nightstand by his side of the bed and pulled [Y/N] into his chest.
She almost tried to squirm away. She wasn’t used to being held. Remus normally didn’t hold her this way. He would come up behind her in the kitchen, or rest his head on her, maybe hold her on his lap. Frankly, [Y/N] was normally the one that held him like this. Her body tensed up. [Y/N] didn’t quite know how to be held at all.
No doubt Remus felt it. He felt a bit of shame. There was no way he treated her how she deserved. His eyes filled with sorrow.
“RJ, I’m scared.”
At every turn, [Y/N] had been there to be brave for Remus. She was as good as Atlas to him. As he felt he small hands cling to the back of his jumper, and her eyes become damp against his chest, he knew it had to be his turn to be brave for her. “My love, hey… I’ve got you, right? I’m not going anywhere,” Which was true, but also saying a lot because Remus wanted to take off running. No way in hell he would dare, though. “What’d’you need right now?”
“Just stay where you are.”
“I’m not going anywhere,” he repeated. Remus kissed the top of [Y/N]’s head. “I’m not going anywhere. You hear me?” Remus whispered, dragging his long fingers through her hair in his best attempt at comfort. He kissed [Y/N]’s forehead. “You’re my girl. Nothing you could do that would have me runnin’. We’ll sort this out together, yeah?”
“Yeah, right.”
“See? There she is. That’s my girl.”
[Y/N] almost chanced a smile. She inhaled the smell of his jumper. Liquor from the pub, pot, coffee, cigarettes and a simple and clean musky deodorant. “You smoke before you came in here?” She asked.
“Yeah,” Remus stifled a giggle. It was an inappropriate time. “I’m high as a broom right now. It’s startin’ to hit,” Remus’s accent always got a little sloppy when he drank or used. That sing songy Swansea lilt he tried so desperately to repress muscled its way to the front. All of his consonants lisped right behind his teeth. “Oops.” He laughed.
[Y/N] started to laugh, and laugh hard.
“What?” Remus asked, eyebrows raised
[Y/N]’s laugh persisted. She was in hysterics. “This… This is awful,” she wheezed, smiling. “This is awful. Like, really awful.” she was laughing so hard that Remus let his own laugh slip into the mix.
“What the fuck is wrong with you?” Remus jeered.
“I’m pregnant. And I didn’t want to tell you. And I tell you… And you’re stoned. You should see your face right now. You’re toasted, RJ. The world is ending out there, I’m pregnant, you’re stoned. You can’t get a normal job because of the ministry shitheads. I’ve three St. Mungo’s training applications rejected. We have… rotten fucking luck. Our friends are dying. And if this goes how shit normally goes for us, we’re gonna be parents,” [Y/N] laughed desperately, while Remus’s big green eyes ringed with red went wide. “We’re going to be very unlucky, poor parents.”
“Wait, wait, wait, hypothetically, isn’t it going to be, like, two negatives make a positive then? Maybe this kid’s the next Merlin, or somethin’.”
“I think you’re think of ‘two wrongs don’t make a right.’”
Remus thought, scrunching his nose. “No, I don’t think that’s it.”
Their conversation lulled with their laughter. Clumsy fingers dragged up and down [Y/N]’s back. Remus spoke first after a few moments. “Love?” He asked. [Y/N] hummed in response. “If we have this thing, it’s going to be very good at reading, isn’t it?” Remus began. [Y/N] smirked like she had something rude to say. “No, shut it. You said yours, lemme say mine. It’s going to be a truly voracious reader, and smarter than all of its little loser friends. And it is also going to have addiction issues and dreadful eyesight, reading AND far off, probably between the two of us, but it’s okay. Because we were so damn unlucky first, so we’ll know what to do. That’s not too bad.”
“You’re implying we have had so much experience being poor in luck that we already know the loopholes.”
“Precisely.”
“I’m in love with you.” [Y/N] said teasingly, planting a kiss on Remus’s scruffy chin.
“We’re not totally out of luck then, are we?”
Hiya! I’m from Wattpad. I have a oneshot request. Could you write a Remus oneshot where the reader is either James or Sirius’ sister and she’s a werewolf too, she doesn’t know Remus is and Remus doesn’t know she is, but one day, she forgets to cover the scars on her face and she’s partnered with Remus in potions and he notices them, knowing how she got them. Then after class he confronts her about it and she replies stating that she didn’t want him to have to deal with her problems too because she cares so much about him, and then they confess? if this is too detailed I’m sorry its just hoe my brain works I don’t request often and I’s write this myself but I have so many other ideas rn. Also do you post the oneshots both here and Wattpad?
Last night was that time of the month. A night that was always followed by exhaustion and frustration. As the full moon shined bright, your body underwent your second excruciatingly painful transformation into the form of a werewolf.
Two months ago, in the summer before your last year at Hogwarts, you got bitten. You were out in the back garden of your home, relaxing beneath the moonlit sky when a werewolf approached. Everything was a blur, and all you could remember was James’ voice as he casted numerous combat spells to get rid of it.
As of now, your brother James and your parents were the only ones that knew of your lycanthropy. He didn’t want to expose your secret to Remus, and he didn’t want to expose Remus’ secret to you, so he refrained from asking him for help. It was hard for James to decide not to join the rest of the Marauders on full moons, as they would always accompany Remus as their animagi during his transformations, however he chose to stay by your side instead. Last month, he prepared his plan a few days prior, acting sick so that he could have an excuse on the night of the full moon.
Now that school started, it was harder for him to think of an excuse to not join them. Last night he told them that he got detention with Filch, which they barely believed, because if one of them got detention, all four of them did.
It was the morning after, and you were running late to class. Exhaustion was taking its toll on you as you rushed off to potions, still half asleep. You hardly managed to put your tie on correctly, adjusting it as you quickly took your seat in the classroom.
“Miss Potter. You’re just in time. You’ll be partnered with Lupin for this month’s project. Please join him at his table.” Professor Slughorn spoke.
“Yes, Professor.” You answered, moving your books over to the table that Remus was sitting at.
Remus looked at you, offering you a polite smile. “Good morning, Y/n.”
You hung around the Marauders very often, as James would bring you along with him whenever he’d see them. It wasn’t uncommon for you to get roped into their pranks somehow. You were always closest to Remus, as he was the easiest to speak to about anything. He was the only one out of the group other than James that you’d spend time with alone, studying together or having butterbeer at The Three Broomsticks. Despite your closeness, he never confessed his lycanthropy to you, and you hadn’t confessed yours out of fear of burdening him.
“Morning.” You replied, covering your mouth to yawn.
He turned his head to look at you, his heart sinking as he saw the scars on your face. Your transformation from the previous night had taken a serious toll on you, and your rush to get to class caused you to completely forget to cover them. Despite his immediate recognition of what they meant, he didn’t let it show on his face.
“You seem tired. Did you get any sleep?” He inquired, pulling out a chocolate bar from his pocket.
“It was a long night. I was studying.” You answered.
“Studying? This early in the school year? That’s not like you at all.” He teased, offering you the chocolate. "Have some chocolate. You'll feel better."
“Thanks." You took a pieceI’m getting a head start. I’m gonna be ahead of the game this year.”
“Right. We’ll see how long this new you lasts.”
─────── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───────
After Slughorn’s dismissal of the class, you gathered your books and walked out with Remus.
“May I ask you about something, Y/n?” Remus queried, walking beside you.
“Of course. Anything.”
He looked around, making sure the coast was clear before taking your hand before pulling you into an empty classroom. You looked at him in confusion, setting your books down on a desk.
“Those scars. On your face. What happened?”
You swallowed nervously, raising a hand to feel your cheek. Your stomach sank as you realised that you forgot one crucial step in your routine this morning.
“I don’t want to worry you, Remus. It’s nothing.” You spoke.
“You’re worrying me by not telling me. Please, Y/n. Let me help you.” He took your hand from your face, holding it in his own.
“I…I don’t know where to start.” You kept your eyes down, staring at the floor in shame.
“How long?” He questioned.
“What?” You looked up at him, furrowing your brows.
“How long ago were you bitten?”
“How did you know?”
“You look completely drained, there are scars on your face, James has spent two full moons in a row away from us, and I noticed the mark on your arm during class. Your sleeve was riding up while you were taking notes.” He answered, still holding your hand.
Your eyes widened briefly, and you could feel your stomach turning uneasily. Had it been that obvious? Could everyone else tell too?
“Nobody would know unless they knew what to look for.” He said after a moment, almost as if he had read your anxious thoughts.
“But you know what to look for?” You asked.
“I do.” Silence hung in the air for a few moments, before he spoke again, soft and earnestly. “I do because I’m a werewolf too.”
His confession brought both shock and relief to you, and you couldn’t deny the urge to pull him into an embrace, so you did. He wrapped his arms around you, rubbing your back and allowing you to bury your face into his chest. “I’m sorry, Y/n. I know how terrible it is. Especially in the beginning. I’m so sorry.” He rested his cheek on your head, sighing deeply.
“How long?” You asked, pulling your head away slightly to look up at him.
“I was four.” He answered, a hint of sadness in his voice.
“Here I was, not telling you because I didn’t want you to have to deal with my problems too. I care too much about you to burden you with my own issues.”
“I care too much about you to let you deal with things on your own. You could never burden me. I had a suspicion, you know. Somehow I felt it. I should’ve asked you sooner. I could’ve helped you in some way.” He replied with a trace of guilt in his tone.
“That’s not your fault, Remus. I didn’t want you to know. I didn’t want you to look at me differently, either.”
“I suppose that's the reason I kept it from you, too. I didn’t want you to look at me differently.” He admitted, releasing you from his arms.
“At least now we don’t have to deal with it alone. We have each other.” You smiled at him.
“Your brother, Sirius, and Peter have helped me through countless transformations. If you’re comfortable with it, I think it’s a good idea for you to join us on full moons. It makes a world of a difference, knowing that there are people supporting you.”
You nodded, feeling a weight lift off of your shoulders. “I think I will.”
There was a brief moment of silence between you two, as Remus mustered up the courage to say what he so desperately wanted to say.
“There’s something else I’d like to confess, Y/n.”
“Yes?”
“I don’t just care about you as a friend. My feelings for you run deeper than that. I’ve admired you for a long time now, and I care about you more than I can express. I realised that as I saw your scars this morning.” He reached out with a gentle hand, cupping your cheek. ”I want to be there for you, always.”
“Remus…” You spoke, hesitantly but with certainty. “I feel the same way. I never thought I’d find someone that understands me as deeply as you do.”
"And please, don't think that I'm judging your scars. I only took note of them because I knew what they meant. Trust me, you're as beautiful as ever." He smiled warmly, before closing the gap between the two of you to press a gentle kiss to your lips. “Merlin, James is going to kill me.”
Walking into the house, you immediately feel a pair of eyes on you. Mary told you to dress nice, so you did exactly that.
"Fancy. Got your pearls on and everything," Your stalker mocks.
You're not in the mood, "Best you could do is a tweed blazer, Lupin?"
"Didn't you bring a present?" He quirks his eyebrow.
"I gave it to him at work," You glare at Remus, "Where's your present?"
Remus taps his chin, pretending to think, "I gave it to him at the get-together we had for his real friends."
Your heart sinks. 'Real friends.' You're one of Sirius's friends.  Right?
"Holy shit!" Remus laughs, "I'm only kidding. Shoulda' seen your face—fuckin' priceless."
You harrumph, crossing your arms, "Whatever."
You continue walking into the sitting room; he follows. Remus is unsure why he's doing this—hassling you, lying to you, teasing you.
He hates himself for it.
Because you do look nice tonight, and you are wearing pearls, and he likes them. He's unsure how to tell you, so he just resorts to being a dick, and he hates himself for it. But, on the other hand, something about you just aggravates him to no end. The way you flaunt your pearls and how you smile at him after you've had one too many drinks.
Something happened that first night you met, something he can't describe—just some gut feeling he had that began to blossom into a beautiful flower.
Until he squashed it.
He stomped on it, drowned it in water, destroyed it. Anything he could do to stunt its growth or, better yet, prevent it from growing at all.
"What's got you in a bad mood?" Sirius asks as you walk into the room, scowling.
You look behind you.
"Oh," Sirius says, putting two and two together in his already inebriated state, "Moons, c'mere. Stop being a twat."
Remus rolls his eyes and plops down onto a couch next to Lily. She whispers something to him, and he shoots her a look that says:
'Lily Evans, shut the fuck up.'
She doesn't listen.
"Y/n," She coos, "You look lovely tonight. Doesn't she, Remus?" She looks over to the boy with a smirk.
His eye twitches, "I already told her."
You scoff, "He made fun of my pearls."
Lily frowns, turning to slap Remus on the arm. She whispers to him again—Remus rolls his eyes, "Sorry for making fun of your pearls." It's monotonous and void of emotion.
Sirius isn't happy that the attention is no longer on him, "As birthday boy," He interrupts, "I declare... shots!"
"Bud," James claps the boy on the back, "You already did shots. Three times."
Sirius laughs evilly, "I mean for you lot." He points around.
"I can't," You speak up, "I have to drive home."
Sirius pretends to yawn, draping himself over the loveseat like royalty, "Boring."
He snaps his fingers, "Wench," He points to James, "Fetch me the wine from the cellar. This instant!"
James sighs, "Pads, we don't have a cellar."
Sirius rolls his eyes, "You hath been bani-shed from thous royal gathering! Be off, wench!"
Yeah. Sirius is really drunk.
James says something. You're not quite sure what it is, but it triggers a riot of laughter, and suddenly your head hurts. It's pounding, and you step out onto the balcony.
You riffle through your purse, looking for your fix. You grab a cigarette and hold it in your mouth, continuing to look in your bag for a lighter. When you can't find one, you groan and turn around.
"Looking for a light?"
You take the cigarette out of your mouth and sigh, "What are you doing here?"
"Well..." Remus quirks a brow, "I was invited here."
"I'm not in the mood, Lupin."
He groans, "You're never in the mood. Ever try having some fun?"
You roll your eyes. Hard. "I have fun all the time. You just bring the mood down."
"I call bullshit," He tilts his head, "I think you're just no fun. A bland, lame, know-it-all who thinks she's everything she isn't," He squits at you, "And I think you know that. I think you try so hard to be the one everyone likes—the one they cherish. But deep down? Deep down, you know you're nothing. You're none of that, and you never will be."
"Fuck you," You sneer, "You know what I think about you? I think you're a miserable low-life with nothing better to do than bully someone who has done nothing wrong! You are pathetic, Remus Lupin. Pathetic!"
"I'm the pathetic one? Don't you live alone? Doesn't your neighbour hate you? Doesn't everyone at work talk behind your back? Didn't Sirius only befriend you out of pity?"
The unlit cigarette drops from your limp hand, "...What?"
"Remus!" James snaps.
And only then does Remus snap out of his aggressive temperament. His face is remorseful, and he opens his mouth.
"Save it, Lupin." You push past him.
"Happy birthday, Sirius. Have a good one, everybody." You say, grabbing your shoes—you can't bear being in this flat one second longer, but an arm stops you.
"Don't go."
"Sirius," You sigh, "Let me go."
"No. He's gonna go. He's gonna go to James's and stay there for the night. You stay."
You turn to look at him with tears in your eyes, "I feel pathetic," You whisper, "I can't stay here."
"Then they can all leave," He whispers back.
You shake your head, "I'll just go home."
"Don't go," He pleads, "It's my birthday."
"You'll live."
"At least let me drive you home."
You wetly laugh, "Sirius, you can barely stand up. I'm not letting you drive."
"I'm friends with you because I like you. Not out of pity."
"I know, Sirius. Thank you." You hug the boy and kiss him on the cheek before turning and leaving.
"Well, you royally fucked that one up, Moony," James says.
"Yeah. Nice going, idiot," Lily adds.
"Party's over. Thank you all for coming. Remus, get out of my sight before I beat the living daylights out of you."
Could you do "you always see the good in people, even me" with Remus Lupin? 🥹
This has taken me a hot second but please just consider it a late birthday gift!!
There’s something about spending time with your friends that makes a strange ache form in your chest, an opening so big it’s shocking that there’s no physical mark. Everything always looks so easy, so effortless for them, all smiling and laughing and snapping pictures, that you can’t help but feel like dead weight. You’re spending a week in a huge house with your wonderful friends in a beautiful location, but you can’t seem to ignore the chasm in your chest.
“Are we having that rematch tonight?” James asks once everyone’s finished their meals, empty plates and full bellies all around the outdoor table, a pack of playing cards in his hand. There’s a sour taste in the back of your throat, the creeping of bile and impending doom because for some reason you just can’t be around them anymore, can’t stomach another late night watching everyone laugh and talk and have a wonderful time while you wonder about how long it will take them to realize they don’t want you around anymore.
“I think I’ll turn in for the night,” you say as you stand, chair scraping against the stone of the patio as you reach for everyone’s empty plates, desperate to seem useful somehow. There’s a rally of protest, but you can’t seem to convince yourself it’s genuine, so you plaster on a smile and keep making your way inside.
You make quick work of the dishes, thankful that they’re mostly clear anyway, and you hurry upstairs before you can hear their rambunctious laughter and tears well in your eyes. You’re almost in your little room at the end of the hallway when you hear the glass door to the patio slide open and close, but you brush it off as someone needing to use the bathroom, so you open the door to your room anyway.
It’s small, just a twin bed and a dresser and a little nightstand, sparsely decorated but perfectly cozy, with a bathroom that connects you to the room being shared by Marlene and Mary. You’d never dream of complaining, not when it perfectly suits your needs and you’re so thankful to even be included, and especially not when Sirius let it slip that Remus had agonized over room assignments for weeks, desperate for everyone to be happy.
Rifling through your luggage, you pull out a worn hoodie to warm you against the blasting of the air conditioning, and you’ve barely pulled it over your head when there’s a gentle knock at your door. You rush over and pull it open to reveal Remus standing on the other side. His cheeks and nose are red, a reminder of all the days in the last week that have been spent out in the sun, and even his hair has gotten a little lighter, a little fluffier, in the warmer, sunnier months.
“I figured I should come check on you, I know we can be a lot to handle, all day every day with no escape,” he says with a little chuckle, slightly awkward as he rocks back and forth on the heels of his feet. While not shy or reserved by the standards of typical society, Sirius and James back him seem like a church mouse, but you find him positively charming. You’d quite like to spend all day every day with him, but there’s no way you’d ever say that, especially not in these circumstances.
“No, no, everyone’s great!” It’s the truth, but you’re sure you sound overeager, desperate to get an invite back the next time they take a trip or even simply hang out together, “I just get tired easily.”
“Me too,” Remus tells you with that gentle smile you love so much, the one that seems almost involuntarily, as if he can’t help but to smile. Having it directed at you almost makes your heart stop.
Its silent, just the buzzing of the air conditioner and the carrying sounds of an energetic game of cards continuing on the back porch. The two of you just stare at each other, and typically you’d feel self conscious, but you’re too busy trying to commit every detail of Remus’s face to memory, every dip and curve and scar. You wonder if he’s doing the same to you.
The moment breaks when Remus gives a huff, a noise that sounds self-deprecating even when there’s no context to it. You make a questioning sound back, still too distracted by the depths of his eyes to form a real sentence to ask what’s wrong. Luckily, he seems to understand exactly what you mean.
“You always see the good in people, even me,” he says, voice soft as honey, and you wonder what would make him think of this out of the blue, if this is his polite way of telling you to stop staring. You don’t get the chance to ask him what he means, why he was thinking that, because you hear the back door slide open and a stream of voices filter into the house, playfully arguing and breaking the gentle peace that had settled over the house in their absence. Remus goes to join them and you follow, feeling a bit like a nervous dog until he smiles at you over his shoulder, giving you yet another thing to turn over in your mind as you try and sleep, trying to piece together the meaning behind all his words and actions, desperate to figure him out.
