'The actor and Baftas host answers your questions about facial hair, Doctor Who, Scrooge McDuck – and growing up as the son of a minister
How do you face the challenge of being this year’s Bafta host? practicalpanic I don’t currently feel particularly challenged because everything’s written down for me and I don’t have to worry about winning – or not winning – an award. If it was the first night of a play, I’d be curled up in a corner in the foetal position. But the fact that it’s not my day job certainly feels liberating. Who knows why they asked me; I must have been pretty far down the list. Expectations are pretty much zero. I don’t have anything to prove. Will I be phoning [previous Bafa hosts] Jonathan Ross and Stephen Fry for advice? I might do. But I’m travelling in blissful ignorance at the moment.
What’s your sideburn policy? They appear to be sized in direct proportion to your characters’ confidence. DrHugbine That’s a very interesting observation, which I don’t think has any truth behind it, but it’s making me wonder …
Here are some examples … Fright Night’s Peter Vincent – long and bushy, confident vampire killer. The Doctor in Doctor Who – long and pointy, charismatic and charming. Broadchurch’s DI Alec Hardy – beard, no sideburns, introverted and suspicious. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’s Barty Crouch Jr – no beard, no sideburns, complex and a traitor. Good Omens’ Anthony Crowley – ginger, no sideburns, stylish but tempted Eve in the garden of Eden as a snake so a bit of a bad egg generally. TopTramp I don’t think you’re going to write a doctoral thesis based on that evidence. It’s very thin evidence, at most. I grew sideburns for Doctor Who because, back then, I was worried I was a bit young for it and I thought they slightly aged me. Which, of course, I then had to recreate recently when I’m almost certainly too old for it. I guess increasingly I am unshaven, in which case you don’t really have to worry about sideburns because they’re part of something else. Whatever length my sideburns are on the night of the Baftas has no reflection on how I’m treating the Baftas.
As a vicar with young kids, I wondered what influence being a son of the manse has had upon your work? RevdAl It’s hard to know, because you only know the influences you had specifically from your parents because they’re your parents – it’s hard to unpick. It certainly wasn’t a childhood filled with religious dogma or any kind of restrictions. It was more a moral guidebook.
What was it like kissing Michael Sheen [in season two of Good Omens]? And who enjoyed it more? carnies18 Who enjoyed it the most? Presumably Michael was thrilled. How could he not be? But it was another day at work. The most difficult bit was other people’s awkwardness. We thought it was quite fun, so it was fine. He’d brushed his teeth.
Would you accept a knighthood just to fuel an excellent argument with Sheen in the next series of Staged? Shirls Because he sent his OBE back? That predisposes the fact that anything that’s talked about in Staged is based on real life. We are in our own houses, acting opposite people we spend our life with. But that’s pretty much the extent of the reality of Staged.
Which is best – playing a detective, a murderer or a murder victim? JonnyMorris1973 Well, one of them solves the crimes. One of them commits the crimes. And the other one has a crime done to them. It probably depends which character the writer is most fond of and therefore the most fun to play. It’s not really in the gift of the actor, so much as in the gift of the scriptwriter. I think I’ve only played one detective, haven’t I? What’s my favourite way I’ve been murdered? Oh my goodness. I was shot in The Last September. I get murdered on stage every night in Macbeth, although that’s a spoiler. I sort of died in Doctor Who when I got shot by a galvanic beam in a radiation chamber that filled my body with more radiation I could cope with.
Am I as geeky as the Doctor who fans? Yes. As a Doctor Who fan myself of old, I can very much can plug into that. I don’t think I ever got in trouble at school. That is one of those stories that’s ended up on Wikipedia. I wrote an essay on Doctor Who, which some unpleasant newspaper found and printed. But I didn’t get in trouble for it. I think I got quite a good mark for it.
Who would win in a fight between Crowley, The Doctor and Scrooge McDuck? AlistairDionysus Probably Scrooge McDuck. He seems to be able to survive just about everything. He’s far more resilient than Crowley or The Doctor, who seem to end up staring destruction in the face. Scrooge McDuck, nothing seems to trouble him.
You have a lovely singing voice! Would you like to do a musical? Beatrice_Tate, gaityr, laibarra622 and Luigii I make a nice curry, but I’m not going to open a restaurant. Would I do the Masked Singer? I love The Masked Singer. Nothing has excited my eight-year-old daughter more than when everyone thought Ricky Wilson from the Kaiser Chiefs was me, week after week. You can imagine how disappointed she was when it turned out I wasn’t.
If you were a cheese, what kind would you be? BrianBraddock I’ve got very into paneer curries. Paneer is neither hard nor soft, so I’ll say that because it makes me sound like I’ve really thought about it.
What’s the last item you snatched from a set? NataliaBCN I’m just going back through things I might have pocketed. Maybe this is the upbringing we talked of earlier. I’m very bad with nicking things. I’m plagued with guilt. The last time they released a new sonic screwdriver toy, someone gave me one but I gave it away because I’m so full of generosity, but now I slightly regret it.
Your portrayal of serial killer Dennis Nilsen [in ITV’s Des] was truly terrifying. How do you prepare for a role like that? YorkshireExPat With someone such as Dennis Nilsen, there is quite a lot of material that’s been written about him. There’s video evidence of him. So you immerse yourself as much you can, then join a line between that and the version of the character that’s in the script, because, ultimately, that’s the version you have to portray. One thing we were very careful to do on Des was to not make it from his point of view. I don’t think you can ask an audience to sympathise or understand someone like Nilsen. It’s the story of how he got away with all these things, then was caught. Hopefully the audience is left thinking: how can someone who is just another member of the human race be committing these extraordinary acts and the rest of us not notice or understand?
If you could regenerate as anyone else for the day, who would you choose? TopTramp My wife, just to see how annoying I really am so I could be properly objective and understand her pain.'

Kids, I can’t believe I have to say this, but don’t out people.
Don’t harass actors who play gay characters to disclose their sexuality.
Don’t tell your parents about the queer kid in class unless you know FOR AN ABSOLUTE FACT that your parents will help or at least quietly support/offer the possibility of options to that kid and never, ever mention it to the kid’s parents, even as a hint.
Don’t flag that the streamer who lives in a dodgy country (which very much includes much of the US for everyone and the UK for trans people) and has a queer presentation.
Don’t demand your friends are open with their sexuality or gender presentation.
Let people be and move at their own speed.
You don’t know the dangers in that person’s life. Even if they’re only in their head, put there by the shitty societies so many people live in, they’re still real. Let them be.
I’d like for this to be the paragraph where I talk about being old enough to remember when this stuff could be life or death and how you young ’uns wouldn’t know, but for fuck’s sake, look at the bullshit going on out there! Protect people! Don’t pull this shit!
If you want to complain about out LGBTQ+ actors not getting enough roles, feel free! Talk about bad representation in fictional media? Go wild, there are endless options. There is ZERO need to out anyone to make these points.

Quiet Backstage (Oneshot)
My Writing Masterpost
Warnings: starvation, non consensual body mod
Vanessa’s keys jingled as she pulled them from her bag.
She would have thought the interior doors in the old theater wouldn’t need to be unlocked, but the dusty knobs were latched tight.
Vanessa had bought the old abandoned place from the city; to renovate it and reopen as a community theater. She figured she ought to see for herself how bad it was before bringing in the contractors.
She coughed as the door opened, dust settling to the floor.
She wandered backstage. Abandoned clothing racks and cobwebbed mirrors lined the dressing rooms, and the wings had holes in the curtains.
A strangely clean door jumped out at her, and she tried the knob. It was locked.
It looked like this door led under the stage, where stunt actors would “fall” through a trapdoor.
She unlocked it easily, and grabbed her flashlight. Only some of the switches worked in the building, and she wasn’t taking chances.
There was yet another locked door at the end of the stairs, but it didn’t creak like the others when it swung open.
The room had an unpleasant smell to it, and it was warmer than the rest of the building.
Her flashlight swept over the area, and she fumbled the wall for a switch.
A few dull bulbs flickered on, and she had to stifle a gasp.
A young man lay limp in the far corner of the room.
He was lying in a nest of old blankets, in nothing but a pair of boxers. He was thin, his face partially hidden in a crook of an elbow.
His skin was mottled with bruises. Black, blue, green, yellow, purple. Blood smeared over what she could see of his nose.
And even worse, he was chained to the wall by his ankle, the skin there rubbed raw and crusted with dried blood.
At least he was breathing, seemingly asleep.
She dropped her bag and rummaged for her phone.
No signal.
Vanessa looked up, and the boy’s uncovered eye had opened. It was a cloudy gray, with dark eyebags underneath.
“Hey there… buddy,” she said.
He didn’t say anything, looking at her warily. She bit her lip. He was so thin, she could count every rib.
“Do you want something to eat? I’ve got peanut butter crackers,” she offered, pulling the snack from her bag.
Vanessa stepped forward, and he shrank into a curl. Okay, so no crackers.
She scanned his body. She was sweating down here, and he looked dry as a bone. Probably dehydrated.
She grabbed her bottle. “How about some water?” She shook the bottle, the liquid inside sloshing.
He lifted his head, and he had a black eye on the other side of his face. An older injury, judging by the swelling.
She held out the bottle to him, and he zeroed in on the water.
“It’s okay,” she said, “you can have it.”
He sat up, but still didn’t take it from her, hands flat on the ground and intertwined in the blankets.
Vanessa unscrewed the top of the bottle, and that seemed to be his cue. He tilted his head back, mouth slightly parted.
She held the bottle to his lips, and he drank and drank. He reminded her of the lambs on her uncle’s farm; bottle fed and helpless.
She pulled away for a minute, and he whimpered.
“I don’t want you to choke,” she explained, and let him drink more after he caught his breath.
After the water was gone, he hung his head, his chest heaving and his eyes closed again.
He was tired, she realized, the effort of merely drinking some water exhausting him.
“Do you want the crackers now?”
His hands clenched and unclenched the blankets, like a kneading cat.
He made a pitiful sound again, and she took that as a yes.
“Here you go.” She unwrapped the plastic and put the crackers in front of him.
He ate slowly, and she scanned the room as he nibbled.
“I don’t suppose you know where the key to your lock is?”
He said nothing; probably too frightened.
“Wait right here,” she told him.
Vanessa called 911 when she got to her car, grabbing her bolt cutters.
“911, what’s your emergency?” buzzed the operator.
“I need the calmest paramedics you have. There’s a young man here who needs help, and he’s scared.”
“What’s your location?”
She told the operator the address, and hung up to wait for the ambulance.
___________________
“Right down here,” she said, leading the EMTs down to the room.
The young man shrank back as they crowded in.
Vanessa snipped the chain short with the bolt cutters, leaving the cuff and a scant few inches of chain still on his leg.
He whimpered as the paramedics gently tugged him out of his nest, but didn’t resist as they maneuvered him around.
“No broken bones,” commented one of them. “Can you hear me, bud?”
The young man nodded.
“What’s your name?”
The boy opened his mouth but said nothing.
“I haven’t heard him speak,” Vanessa offered.
The paramedic gave her a strange look.
“Right… Well, we’ll need to take him to the hospital. Are you riding with?”
Vanessa made a split decision. “Yes.”
___________________
The hospital was… trying. They had a hard time getting him into a bed. His squirming wasn’t quite non-compliant, and the nurses were sympathetic, but it made it difficult to treat him.
“It’s okay,” she cooed, his wide eyes looking to her. “They’re just trying to help.”
He settled down after that, tears turning the grime on his face tacky.
She wasn’t sure if his limp obedience was from understanding or just a matter of giving up.
The iv they had struggled to insert chugged away, pumping him with fluids and a mild sedative.
The hospital bracelet on his wrist read “John Doe”.
He didn’t like a John. Maybe a Will.
The doctor stepped back out into the hall, closing the door behind him and interrupting her thoughts.
“How’s he doing?”
“I can’t release that information to you,” he said, “but better, at least. He’ll live.”
“Right.”
Vanessa glanced through the window into the room. He was looking back at her, eyes still wide and shiny with tears. She could see his adam’s apple bob as he choked back sobs.
The doctor brushed past her to speak with the police about the case.
She went inside the room.
The cuff and chain had been removed, sitting on a nearby table, rusty red from blood.
“Hi,” she said. He stared at her, exhausted.
Vanessa pulled up a chair to the bed. “Are you feeling better?”
He nodded, then shook his head. Yes and No.
“I know it’s pretty scary,” she said. “But I bet your body feels a bit better, right?”
“Mmm,” he hummed. It was the closest thing to a word he had offered so far.
Vanessa sat up straighter. “Can you talk?” she asked, low and quiet. It would be nice if he could tell her his name, even if he refused to tell the doctor.
The young man hesitated. He opened his mouth, as if to show her something, and Vanessa peered inside.
Oh god.
She hadn’t noticed it before, in the dim light of the basement. No wonder he hadn’t said anything.
Someone had cut out his tongue.

I think they're probably just picking up their ages with how they've aged/grownup during the writers strike, since the actors were aging during those years, so we should probably be assuming Eddie+Buck are ~32 now and Eddie+Shannon had Christopher at like 19...which kinda tracks, though I'd have thought they were a bit older (no way they were in highschool though, since Eddie talks about coming home from a military tour once the baby (Christopher) is born in a flashback and 17-year-olds can't be in the military).
I hope you don't mind me answering this Nonny. I don't think you will?? But yeah, based on your other message, I can see how the math can possibly work out, although it's still a bit mind-fucky for sure. 🤙
Oh, I probably worded my post you're referring to wrong, but I meant that at the youngest Shannon got pregnant at 17, but would've given birth to Chris at 18. I have zero knowledge of how long military tours last (I do know you have to be 18 to even join the military), but again going with the *gestures* timeline you've laid out, yeah at the oldest Shannon was 19 when she had Chris.
I know the fandom is rather split on the, as I view it, retcon of sorts to age Shannon and Eddie down. Some people accept it, some don't, and some are "eh whatever" about it. And while it was never confirmed in canon how old Eddie is (until 6B), idk, I felt like there was enough clues to infer that he was 2-3 years older than Buck. And yeah, how old Ryan is irl was a factor of this.
I'm mixed on season 6 saying Shannon and Eddie are the same age and are younger that what I, and many others, originally thought. Part of me just thinks "...ok I guess." Another part of me is just, "but why and for what?" Now you don't have to think this, nor anyone, but to me, it all feels like another way for the show to give more sympathy points to Shannon (and Eddie in his own way). The show and Eddie (which I get) often have rose tinted glasses on when it comes Shannon.
Idk what your feelings on Shannon are Nonny, but uh, I'm not a fan of her. Yes she's and interesting character, and she's not unsympathetic, but in the end I still will not like a woman who abandoned her kid (in great part because she's ableist, lbr), came back because Eddie reached out for Chris, and then wanted to leave again before dying.
Circling back to the age thing. I already figured Shannon was maybe 22 or 21 when she had Chris, which is already young. Then the show says, "no no she was 18/19, which is extra sad." <-- That's just how it comes across to me anyway, the show trying to garner more sympathy for the woman who abandoned her kid.
Um. This definitely went places, but thank you for the math assist Nonny.

Single Parent (1)
confections of the heart by pleasinglouis 25k
Harry chuckles, smiling when Louis’ breath hitches as he reaches up to brush his thumb over Louis’ cheek. “Louis, would you like to go on a date with me?”
He still worries that the date won’t go well, that Harry will get bored of him or decide it’s too complicated dating an omega with a pup, but he nods anyway, “Yes.”
It feels worth it when Harry’s lips widen into a grin and the dimple that Louis finds quite charming craters into his cheek. Who knows, maybe it won’t be as awkward as you think, Louis thinks to himself and follows Harry to where Oliver is watching a chef with a loud laugh show the pup how to sculpt with chocolate. Maybe this time it’ll work out.
.
.
Or Louis is a single mom, Harry is a pastry chef, and Oliver just wants his mom to be happy. With a teaspoon of love and a sprinkle of fate, the three might just find a home in each other.
darling, ill take care of you by louly23 20k
Louis watches the strip turn pink in the shitty employee bathroom of Donny stadium on a Wednesday evening in early April, 2008, and all she can fucking think as she sits there on the too-low, rickety old toilet seat that’s three fucking inches away from the sink with her nasty work khakis and Ann Summers underwear around her skinny 17-year-old ankles, 12,000,000 miles up Shit Creek with zero fucking paddles, is: I don’t even fucking like taquitos.
Across the ocean, in a small dingy-looking hallway in the shadiest part of Los Angeles, 16 year old Harry Styles tries to calm her breathing and wipe the sweat from her palms before she enters her very first audition as a fully grown, adult actor, a very long ways away from home.

The man lays his hand on Harry’s forearm and Harry looks up as the stranger leans in. “I just wanted to say,” he whispers. “Can I cover your bill? I’m a big believer in paying it forward and I can see you’re struggling. It’s none of my business, of course, but I’d really like to help.”
OR the one where Harry is a struggling single parent who doesn’t have time for relationships and Louis is a generous stranger who is unlucky in love, until fate decides to step in and bring them together.

Louis Tomlinson and his best friend Bridget had a daughter when they were very young and he was on the brink of becoming the next MLS star. Until he blew out his knee.

Kai just shakes his head, making his way down the small batch of stairs with a hop in his step. “Have fun on your weird adult date.”
Harry sighs. “It’s not a date.”
“Dad, you already have him in your bed most nights,” Kai sings, walking backwards towards Louis’ car with an insufferable smirk on his face. “It’s not looking too good for you,” he shrugs, hands curled around the straps of his backpack.

"Harry isn’t superstitious, doesn’t knock on wood, or wish on shooting stars, but his position on ‘love at first sight’ becomes increasingly wishy-washy as his mind begins to comprehend blue, blue, blue. “Harry, hi, I thought it was you,” Louis said as they came to a stop in front of him, Teddy by now sound asleep in his pushchair. “I hope I’m not holding you up?”
“Not at all,” Harry insisted, smiling down at Piper who was peering shyly up at the stranger in front of her. “I’m really glad we’ve seen you, actually. Pip, there’s someone I’d really love you to meet, sweetheart.”
Piper shuffled a little closer, clinging on to Harry’s shorts as he set a hand on her shoulder, willing her to relax. “Hello.”
“Hi!” Louis said, giving her a little wave, making Harry’s tummy flip over, loving how easy Louis seemed to be with his children. “I love your top. Sunflowers are my favourite.”

Or Harry and Louis realise that all they need to be strong is love.
To Begin Again by lovelarry10 23k
“I, uh, I’m really sorry for yelling at you like I did.”
“Hey, I deserved it and more. I’m lucky you didn’t come and deck me on the nose,” Louis said, holding his hands up as if to surrender. “Seriously, you went lightly on me. If a crazy dog was leaping around me and my kids, I’d have lost my shit long before you did, and it would have been a lot more sweary than yours as well.”
Harry laughed at that, quite liking the man now he was getting to know him. This Louis seemed to have a good sense of humour, and his dog was fairly likeable too, laying there sound asleep, sunbathing.
“Well, I don’t usually lose my temper, so I just wanted to apologise.”
“It’s me who needs to say sorry. My stupid dog ate their bloody eggs, and on Easter Sunday at that. It’s a good job we don’t go to church, Cliff, or we’d both be going straight to hell. Nice ears, by the way. I meant to say earlier.”

the way age is such a complicated theme for the prodigy cast. sure you can look up the characters’ ages in a promotional bio but that really does not encompass the whole story. there’s the energy being that does not physically age and even though aaron waltke confirmed that zero is the medusan equivalent of a juvenile, their experience of maturity is probably extremely different from that of an organic species. then we have jankom pog who we can age chronologically as somewhere around 400 due to having been displaced in time from being on a pre-warp sleeper ship and is voiced by an adult who really contrasts with the other actors’ voices and performances but biologically? teenager! and of course we can’t forget how rok spent probably at least one year in suspension if not more all alone teaching herself complicated university topics for the chance to save herself and her friends from dying horribly in space so like, is she still eight? does she still feel eight? that’s not even going into how in the flashback moment where we see the diviner clone himself into gwyn, she’s created from the start into a young woman. that may have been an artistic representation of the process but it’s still entirely possible that the process of her maturity was very different from a naturally born vau n’akat
and really, exact age of all these characters is the least important thing, even if they weren’t subject to all these question marks over their life because they’ve never been children in their lives. they were all exploited from such a young age, except maybe zero, and they’ve prematurely learned what it’s like to only be able to trust yourself in your own future and that makes them so, so old and yet so, so young.

NRS should have used the og origins timeline of the brothers born as Chinese-Americans for MK1.
It would give reason to why Bi-Han seems beyond bitter and resentful of being forced in the Lin Kuei beyond his control then he wants power and control of the clan because he was ribbed of having other choices. Imagine the young brothers in school and learning and have some friends and playing and the dreams of being who they want to be and then they're forced to be ruthless warriors and only devote loyalty to the Lin Kuei and/or defense of Earthrealm.
In the original origins, it was sadly implied that their mother and baby sister were killed by their father. How horrible! Also they were probably Eurasian since it was implied their mother was white and they used white actors to be the brothers. (Even though it makes more sense for them to be asian since they are biracial)
This idea could have more tragic conclusion and Bi-Han's hatred and bitterness and hey, the jealousy, and envy he must be feeling. All these chosen ones seem to have such hopeful goals contrast to him. They probably had a normal childhoods compare to his controlled one.
Bi-Han could have a love-hate relationship with the Lin Kuei. He hates them and his father for taking him away from being normal and the freedom of choices he could make, took him away from everything he known. Then he loves the Lin Kuei because now he's in control of them and the Grandmaster and has their complete loyalty. He will make them a nation for the Lin Kuei to take half of Earthrealm for him to rule over because the clan is all he has left. His choices was beaten him to always think of the Lin Kuei, so of course it literally means they are everything to him now.
Bi-Han lost his beloved mother and baby sister. And now his brothers are against him and devoted to their late father. The old man probably was two-face about it, who was kind and fatherly towards his young sons and raised them with an open gentle hand. To Bi-Han, he was cruel, manipulative tyrant who gave his older son no mercy to the training of becoming a grandmaster, raised him with a closed fist.
I mean this would have been more interesting! Or something like this!
As much as I miss the original or the alternative origin, anything similar happening now would put Liu Kang in bad light, as the Keeper of Time that allows such vile practices and benefits the most from it. What understandably is not something NRS would want for their main Chosen One and the great Champion of the Good Side.
But to be honest, Bi-Han doesn’t need additional trauma that shaped him in previous timelines, as what he got is still a solid reason to resent the Fire Lord. He and Kuai Liang said that members of Lin Kuei are trained from childhood and trained differently. Lin Kuei aren’t meant to be the Champions that will officially be recognized by befriended realms and bask in the glory of this honor and glory of their victories. Kitana literally asks in her intro vs. Sub-Zero “Why are Lin Kuei never Earthrealm champions?” and it is because they are the black ops, a private army of  Fire Lord, never recognized by nations but who do the dirty job for Earthrealm’s sake for literal centuries. The members of Lin Kuei are not trained to fight honorably but to eliminate the threat Liu Kang points out to them and kill whoever stands in their way which we could see during the mission to the enemy's hideout. And this is not a life any of them choose as adults, like usually happens with people enlisting to the widely understood uniformed services, especially for commando or spy jobs. They are destined to uphold the “honorable tradition” since they are children and frankly, it is not just the physical training but also psychological preparation as killing is not something that comes so easily as one may think. Bi-Han literally said to Reiko in one intro “To kill, one must be cold-blooded” and sure, it could be just the cryomancer thing, but may as well be a hint what Lin Kuei training included, as a means to transform children into deadly weapons. So how much Bi-Han or Kuai Liang or any other child born into Lin Kuei had a relatively happy childhood is up to debate. And Bi-Han as heir to Grandmaster had an additional role to prepare for and the older he was, the more resentful and frustrated he became, as Lin Kuei for their devoted service to Liu Kang and Earthrealm didn't get much in return. Which I think is an understandable source for his anger and frustration, especially if his mother died in line of duty.
Of course, it would be much better if we had a chance to see how Bi-Han interacted with his father and if the man treated his sons differently, especially if he was more demanding from his first-born or not. But I feel Bi-Han doesn’t need to endure additional abuse to feel his father failed the clan, as he experiences first-handly how Liu Kang treats his beloved Champions and Outworld friends and how Lin Kuei is treated to feel the servitude is unfair and akin to slavery than any honorable duty. I would love, if the NRS gave us a more complex and exploited backstory for Lin Kuei and the brothers, but I think there is enough ground to give Bi-Han benefit of doubt that his claims aren’t baseless and there indeed is something tragic about his desire for freedom, for himself and whole clan.
I don't mind the current biography, but for sure giving us more details would make everything better in my humble opinion.

not sure who needs this, but here is a list i've made of all the "realistic" serana replacers, bc i know the "doe-eyed 16 yr old" look that most replacer mods have gets old real fast (and creepy, given her backstory)
replacer for serana by @yennethan : i love this one and i'm going to use it for my next playthrough. gives her more of a 'wise older sister' vibe, as opposed to a 'young vampy bimbo'.
Tumblr media
anima nera by serkethetyt : this one has a creepier vibe than all the other serana replacers i've seen. if you like your vampires to be more on the horrific and visceral side, then look no further.
Tumblr media
npc overhaul - serana (high poly) by ihuntalone : this mod manages to strike a nice balance, keeping her facial proportions realistic while still making her look delicate and elegant
Tumblr media
eeekie's serana by eeekie : one thing i love about eeekie's mods (besides the stunning realism) is that the characters always look like grown adults. if you want a more mature and seasoned look for your serana, this is the one.
Tumblr media
seranade by annaccident : i only found this mod while making this post and ?? why is this one so underrated lol, she is gorgeous. i like her tired eyes, because wouldn't you also be exhausted after taking nirn's longest nap? the hairs are also mashups, making them quite unique and giving her the signature braids she sports.
Tumblr media
dashing dawnguard followers by tragedian : one of my all-time faves ! this one (and all of tragedians mods) puts a refreshing spin on vanilla style, staying true to the game's original vibe but making serana a lot more aesthetically pleasing in the process. (note that this mod is not standalone and will replace other dawnguard npcs)
Tumblr media
definite serana smp hair by mharlek1 : another mod that stays pretty true to vanilla style, with the added bonus of smp hair ! (if you don't use smp, there's an option for no physics as well).
Tumblr media
serana - daughter of coldharbour by southpawe : this mod models serana's face after her voice actor, laura bailey. the ethics of this mod are... questionable lol, but on the plus side, who fits serana's voice better than her literal voice actor?
Tumblr media
nithi npc enhancement - serana by nightmarezone : this lovely serana has a realistic face and has 3 different hairstyles to choose from. if you like the style of this mod, you should check out the rest of their work, bc their npcs are awesome.
Tumblr media
dragonborn waifus - yet another serana replacer by lucazoid : don't let the name fool you, this is no waifu mod. this replacer gives her a strong brow and tired eyes, and has a whopping 24 (!!!) hairstyle options.

I honestly don’t understand how you can frame Jensen reprising his role as Soldier Boy for a cameo in Gen V as bad for his career when posts like this are getting the engagement they are: https://x.com/theboystv/status/1715163421929308301?s=46&t=eTIYBJflezjsZxlN-TlYeQ
Being part of The Boys universe has boosted his career far beyond the level of his former costars. It just seems like jealousy when people who are mainly Jared fans try to belittle Jensen’s accomplishments/continually rising popularity…
Fact: Jensen's presence didn't affect The Boys ratings.
Another fact: Being downgraded from a Guest star tier to a Cameo instead of being promoted to series regular is not the flex you think it is.
Third fact: horny old women and young girls liking Jensen's vulgar potrayal means zilch for his career. What matters is how we will be perceived by his BUYERS. Right now Jensen is going against his real brand and type and confusing his buyers.
Branding fact: If he wants to play a superhero he needs to have the personality of one instead of playing the anti hero.
Fact about you: You know zero about how the industry works. So why are you even sending in such an ask? Ever stop to think the engagement is more about the Gen V brand than about Jensen himself? Like it or not, his performance was less than believable. If you didn't study acting in an in depth way at Hollywood standards please refrain from evaluating actors. You can only damage their direction. Any scene can always be improved upon and pointing out things that can and should be improved is a constant for actors who wish to grow and shift tiers. Jensen can be exquisite when he connects but, unfortunately, like you, he is an amateur craft wise and that sets him back. He seems to fail to realize that acting standards have shifted and being histrionic is not what real acting entails.
Fact about Jared: Jared is currently a leading man...which means he is far beyond jensen's tier. Open a book about actors and how marketing works within their industry before spouting nonsense. Did you mean envy? How could I be envious of Jensen when I am highly cultured, more educated and trained than him? How could Jared fans envy Jensen since he is currently at a very sad tier in his career? 🤭
Final fact: Jensen can be exquisite but it's precisely getting caught up in buying the fake hype fans in heat create that is keeping him from becoming an accomplished high tier actor.

Absolute Zero, episode 1 RANDOM THOUGHTS (more like FEELS and SQUEALS and HAPPY PIPS, here we go):
1) New Siwaj's latest prestige BL. Man, we've had some dips from him lately. I FAST-fast-forwarded through Between Us to get to the DeanPharm bits, and listen, I shoulda just listened to my friends (insert the Bugs Bunny "NO" gif here). And I have a pathetic love for Double Savage, a show that New Siwaj screenwrote and that aired earlier this year, for its POTENTIAL to tell an intergenerational familial trauma story headed by OhmPerth, but lord, it was a mess. At the same time, I have been impaled with a thirsty obsession over my watch and rewatch of New's Until We Meet Again, so with New going high for this latest show -- I have BIG expectations.
2) @bengiyo and @twig-tea (here and here) covered a TON of what I am thinking (and apologies to friends if you wrote AZ things yesterday and I missed them -- like @bengiyo, I would love to be tagged in your meta to track thoughts on this show!) (I think @troubled-mind is getting into this one, maybe we already have a little AZ squad going!). Further apologies and big ups to Ben and Twig if I repeat anything you say! Which I will, right now, repeating Ben's words:
3) FUCK if I didn't feel some nostalgia hearing Boy Sompob's voice again. I really do feel like this means that New is THROWING. DOWN. The music in this show is already fantastic. The music was SO IMPORTANT to the storytelling in UWMA, and I'm glad we're leading with it again here.
4) I am VERY PLEASED to see Mix Wanut (young Suansoon) holding down as a lead. We didn't see him too much as Don in UWMA, but: I thought his timing and comedy was particularly notable in UWMA (when Don was able to lighten up a bit near Dean, I thought it was really great).
5) Speaking of the actors. I'd like everyone to know (poor @neuroticbookworm and @lurkingshan have already heard me yelp on this). Teng Kanist, who plays the older Suansoon. He was fabulous as Nat in Gay OK Bangkok. Nat was a contradictory character, but let me be honest -- I felt a little symp for Nat because I like Teng's face. I admit it, I'm weak and transparent for dudes.
BUT: we all need to know that Teng Kanist IS ALSO A REAL-LIFE PASTRY CHEF who also GOES TO THE GYM. Therefore, we have a perfect man (for me lol) in our midst. Just need everyone to know! Croissants and abs and sets. SOLD!
6) Ahem, where was I. As an #old, seeing middle-aged dudes in a drama is what I need. I like that Absolute Zero is going to do this for us: to juxtapose the expected BL school scenes with two real adults in real adult settings. I love this. And I love that I know we are going to get more elders next week in What Did You Eat Yesterday?, and elder-ishes very soon in Cherry Magic Thailand and Cooking Crush. We need to age-diversify this field, and New is leading this season.
7) I love how fast we needed to get to young Suansoon and young Ongsa getting together. From the MDL description of the show, it looks like Absolute Zero may have a similar structure to UWMA. UWMA was like a three-part series: the first part being Dean and Pharm getting together; the second being their discovering their spiritual pasts through their shared inherited memories and meeting their families; and the third being the conclusion with their resolving Korn and Intouch's forced separation at death.
If Absolute Zero follows a similar structure in a shorter episode span (right now, MDL shows AZ having 12 episodes, as compared to UWMA's 17 episodes), then I understand AZ needing to be a bit chop-chop about the romance. But I felt that this episode was still perfectly paced, and yes -- dropping the faen in the first episode could seem a touch fast, but I felt that we had convincingly spent intentional time with Suansoon's loneliness to understand why he would have said yes to Ongsa. (And, anyway -- of course, we needed to know that they got together, because we time-jumped to their loving adult relationship.)
And I loved young Ongsa's approach. A guy looking and chasing after his crush. The romance of buying tickets to a movie, hoping the guy he likes will show up. Giving Suansoon a birthday bracelet at the movie. Holding Suansoon's hand and asking him the big question.
Man.... ahhhh. What I loved about that bracelet scene is that -- the gift of that bracelet did a lot of the communicating from Ongsa to Suansoon without words. Suansoon was clearly touched and moved. The loss of his parents shakes him, but he clearly got a lovely moment of connection from that gift. Mix acted that part beautifully.
8) The Love of Siam. What can I fucking say. I haven't seen My Only 12%, where I know New makes another significant reference to LoS there. But, just. I'm very glad @bengiyo insisted on LoS being the start of the Old GMMTV Challenge, in part because of the references to LoS in other Thai BLs over the course of the genre's short history, but also -- the tragedy of that movie communicates SO MUCH when it is present as a reference in another piece. Just like the bracelet communicates so much by way of love. I love that we got to see the pre-ending credits quote. I love that New's communicating to us through this brilliant movie.
Tumblr media
I am sure I can find more to gush on, but let me stop here, because this got longer than I expected. I can't manage a full load of dramas, so I'll likely be dropping my thirst-watch of Dangerous Romance to accommodate AZ and WDYEY. Just like I am praying for Tee Bundit to not drop the ball on I Feel You Linger in the Air -- let us hope New can also keep the juggle up on AZ. He started this out STRONG. I HAVE HIGH HOPES.

COVER INTERVIEW:
Its been a long day for Simone Ashley. By the time we sit down to chat over Zoom, its 7:20 pm in London and Ashley has spent the last sixteen hours inside a dark cavernous studio filming night scenes for one of UK's most cherished TV shows. With her eyes still readjusting to the light and her face showing zero signs of dregs of a hard day's work, she sits at home emanating the exuberance of someone raring to do it all over again.
It wasn't easy to pin down Ashley for our interview. And its understandable really, knowing that she's soon to become one of the most talked about actresses on our screens. Only a few months ago, whispers of Ashley started rumbling across the internet. Her face quickly started appearing on Twitter and Instagram. Articles that told you "everything you need to know about Simone Ashley" became suggested reads for TV lovers.
Why ? Because in a landmark move for the 26 year old actor, the news broke that Ashley would be taking on her next role as Kate Sharma-the fiery headstrong and grounded new female lead of Bridgerton.
As Kate Sharma,Ashley joins as the love interest of Jonathan Bailey's character,Anthony. When the news of the role was released, Netflix tweeted "Kate Sharma is a smart headstrong headstrong young woman who suffers no fools- Anthony Bridgerton very much included" which is no doubt a nod to the juicy tumultuous events to come. Speaking with Ashley about the role and her character its increasingly hard to believe that despite her almost continuous smile, infectiously calm demeanour and astute gathered reflections on her life and career, she says that she is in fact very similar to the fiery character she plays.
"Naturally when we meet someone fiery who maybe has a temper or is incredibly emotional, its really natural for us to feel slightly intimidated by that person and not really understand where it comes from, to feel protective of ourselves if it comes from a place of animosity" Ashley says ruminating upon what makes Kate, Kate. "A lot of time, people who have those traits- quite fiery, raised voice and have a temper- are actually people who have the biggest hearts. There's work to be done on how you express yourself. I don't think its a necessarily bad thing"
And the pressure was certainly on Ashley, to bring the character of Kate Sharma to life as much as she could. Julia Quinn the author of the Bridgerton novel series, tweeted "I couldn't dream of a more perfect Kate" when the news of Ashley's arrival was announced.
So the actress took her time to really understand who Kate was really deep under the surface so that she could slip into her skin and stand tall around the Bridgerton sets, not only with support from a corset but with an arresting poise that speaks true of her character.
For most of us we were first introduced to Ashley during her appearance in the widely revered Netflix hit show- Sex Education. Our first glimpse of the future Bridgerton star was of Ashley portraying a 16 year old high school girl perching on a derelict toilet in an asbestos covered bathroom next to the show's protagonist, Asa Butterfield as she confides in him about her more turbulent sexual experiences. Sex Education set out to break down questions of sex and sexuality that most of us had growing up, exploring different stories and topics that hone in a range of topics and taboos. It soon became a treasure of a show for anyone wanting to find out about things no one is really talking about.
"I'm so grateful to be part of that show" Ashley says reminiscing about how close the cast of Sex Education cast became."It's a cast and crew of such incredibly intelligent wonderful people with really big hearts and all in all as well as being part of the series, that was a massive thing I took away from the job, I made some really amazing friends I think it was just a really fun job to be a part of . It's such a fun story that John Hughes kind of high school world it was just really special."
Prior to the role Ashley worked with Olivia Coleman and David Tennant in Broadchurch as well as more recently appearing in shows like ITV's The Sister. She had a blink-and-you'll-miss-me role in 2015's iconic cinematic story of hip hop group NWA's Straight Outta Compton. Even though Sex Education's seismic success could only mean good things were coming to the cast Ashley is still pinching herself over what seems to have fallen deservedly on to her lap.
It's no shock that Ashley finds herself likely taken aback by the recent developments in her career, the world will be watching as she steps foot ; her back help straight and hands locked together in traditional Regency-era gowns on to our screens. But not only has landing the role been a game change for her career but it's also thrown her into a world of complete unfamiliarity wrapped up in what seems to be the most rigorous work schedule around.
"With Bridgerton it's much more intense than Sex Education in the sense that if I'm not filming I'm horse riding, training or rehearsals. I'm an accent training or I'm in a fitting" Ashley explains "I've never really worn a corset before so that took some getting used to, my body definitely changed a little bit wearing it. And that kind of changed my posture a lot to suit the era. Horse riding, I've never really ridden before, I rode once years ago, but I did some intense training for that and it turns out I'm a natural at it so that's a great thing" she shares.
With unrivalled anticipation of the second season, based on the second instalment of Quinn's novel series The Viscount Who Loved Me- as well as the fan bases that spans across continents and even releasing its own "Nap Dresses" fashion collection, Bridgerton has become an empire stretching all over the globe and Simone Ashley has undoubtedly taken centre stage.
But none of this came easily for the actress. Ashley's dreams of acting have always been firm and unwavering in her mind. With no other option of what her future might look like Ashley took a dangerous leap into a world that chucks people out this despondent and dreamless as quickly as it can make you the next big thing. "I have incredibly supportive parents especially my mum" she says. "I was extremely stubborn in my choices and I left home quite early when I was about 15 years old and I was just very focused. So to be honest even if they were supportive or not I was going to do it anyway"
"I couched surfed quite a lot, and I worked various retail jobs. I did a year of acting on a musical theatre course at a drama school and then it didn't work out, I actually left after my first year then I went to LA where I did my first teenie tiny acting role. Then I came back to London and took it seriously and started knocking on a lot of doors, going to thousands of auditions like any other actor, and just went back to acting class. I was just really curious to see how deep I could get into craft."
Grafting with unchanged determination took Ashley, from job to job, London to LA, and retail job to retail job. But as her self-assurance and awareness of her potential became steadfast in her mind the jobs got bigger and her dreams got closer.
"If I am really honest, I got kicked out of the drama school that I went to" Ashley admits, opening up as our conversation draws to a close. "I failed in dance and I was told that I wasn't ever going to be in performing arts. There wasn't a part of me that ever believe anything there was saying.I always knew that I was really smart and maybe just have some growing up to do, but I always knew that this what I was meant to be doing" she said wrapping her head around being the new star of one of Netflix's biggest shows. And if there is any greater testament to proving that it can happen, that taking risks can one day be undeniably fruitful, its Bridgerton's newest heroine.

Finally got around to watching Being the Recardos on Amazon Prime after procrastinating for months... ugh, why do I torture myself? I knew it was going to be God-awful.
I generally hate biopics. It’s just too hard to cram an entire person’s life in 2 hours. I much prefer to read a biography or memoir which offers deeper insight and can be thorough and detailed or watch a doc. Real stories are always more interesting than dramatizations. That being said, my main issue was with the casting. I just couldn’t see Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem disappear into the roles of Lucy and Desi. They looked NOTHING like them. I will give props to Kidman to at least nailing Lucy’s voice, but otherwise, her hair and makeup was atrocious and did not embody Lucy at all (it looks better on the obviously photoshopped poster, trust me... it looks like utter sh- in the movie). I generally like Bardem but he was miscast as Desi. So he’s got an accent so what? A guy who was shorter and didn’t speak in a deep baritone would have been a better choice. I would have preferred unknowns in these parts. When you use A-list actors who are supposed to be representing Icons, it’s hard to see them as the people they’re meant to be portraying because they’re too recognizable themselves.
Tumblr media
I also had issues with the actress playing Vivan Vance as well (too lazy to look up her name). She was about the right age as Viv maybe a couple years younger but much too thin and pretty. Viv was an attractive woman when she wasn’t playing Ethel (they always made her look frumpy and older than she was irl) but you have to keep in mind she wasn’t a pin-up girl, either and she wasn’t old but she wasn’t that young either. She was 42 albeit classy but still... the hair was all wrong and I just couldn't see her as Vivian. In fact, after comparing their pictures side by side I think Vivian was much more glamorous but she wasn’t supposed to look that glamorous as Ethel... they let Ethel be glammed up in the later episodes and this was an issue that cropped up in the movie but still. The actress didn’t even try to do her voice and sounded nothing like Vivian so she just didn’t do it for me. The only actor that completely fit his part was JK Simmons as William Frawley. Maybe he was thinner than Frawley but he got the voice and mannerisms down pat that if I closed my eyes I could totally see Frawley speaking. Now if only the rest of the cast was as good as he was, the movie would have been at least partly bearable.
Tumblr media
I gather this movie was intended to be a low budget TV movie because that’s exactly what it felt like. No effort put into it all because it went direct to streaming.
Also there were so many historical inaccuracies, too many to list off but purist Lucy fans would spot the inconsistencies from a mile away (the most glaring issue was how Lucy and Desi met on the set of Too Many Girls in 1940).
Honestly... the costume department couldn’t have done a worse job...
Tumblr media
Was this supposed to be Lucy’s natural brunette hair? Cause no.... no it’s not.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sorry but Kidman just couldn’t capture her beauty at all...
The Communist speech was also really cheesy... the audience reactions could not be more forced and you can tell when they were told to gasp and look shocked. If Desi’s speech was staged for the cameras I could forgive the forced reactions but it was not staged and the audience irl was not expecting Desi’s speech. If you look up the actual address Desi gave to the studio audience it was much less dramatic and easier to suspend one’s disbelief.
The film offered nothing new either... in fact the crappy 1991 TV movie Before the Laughter did a more entertaining job of capturing Lucy and Desi’s rocky marriage than this movie did. I didn’t care for Maurice Benard as Desi but Frances Fisher KILLED it as Lucy. It was not a great movie by any means but I’d rather watch that one any day over this hot mess.
The only thing I can say that was positive was that it was a wise choice to zero in on a single week of filming the I Love Lucy show as opposed to showing their entire lives and careers. we see parts of that but there was too much to show in 2 hours so focusing on a single moment in their lives and what led up to that was for the best so that it didn’t feel too rushed. Biopics work best when you’re focusing on just one thing. But that being said the movie still fell flat on its character development and there was no emotional connection to Lucy and Desi at all. In 2 hours I felt like I still didn’t really know who these people were. It was a very surface level movie with no real deep commentary or themes or anything. I also hated the fake interviews with the writers as the movie’s opening it was very weak and cliche. They were trying to push this movie as a docu drama but it wasn’t. It was just another bad dramatization of two Hollywood Legends with no new insight.
But then I didn’t really expect it to be a good movie so can’t say it met my expectations or really disappointed me because I had none going in.
I’m definitely going to watch the far more superior documentary Lucy and Desi directed by Amy Poehler. Docs are always 10000x better than crappy biopics.

This blog write all right. Idk how all his project outside mcu all get one way or another does bad or it's streaming numbers or box office. Idk hod it'd happened like probability so small, like we don't know it'd his team or it's him not knowing what hd doing. Did someone reading scripts alongside him to give advice? If u think about its somehow coming it's always something bad storytellers, pace, bad challengers development or something else?now he have bad reputation in Hollywood or big ppl not take him seriously. Plus mcu actors nowadays it's like swimming against stream,u like need proof to everyone and add some, all should be ideal and only then they will let go of his neck. I'm kinda sad for Tom. But on another dude he said himself that he don't wanna be actor 😔 like if it's not u passion why u forcing it dude idk working through pressing on urself. Idk idk like I stop expect anything, I wouldn't surprise if he retire after spiderman. Tom a man of unrealized potential
Ok.
First, when did Tom say he doesn't want to be an actor? Do you think that if it were like that he would continue trying and working on it? I think he has just been unlucky, remember most of his movies were released in the Covid19 season. Chaos Walking, for example (poorly executed, definitely, but would have done well at the box office if not for...zero promotion and covid).
Tom was very young when he started taking on a lot of unscripted projects. and I read somewhere that he wasn't sure about playing Cherry but the Russos convinced him (they bribed him lol, I'd say ) and since he feels he owes them part of his career, he said yes... The Russos have a name there out and (Advenger is a success to this day although it hurts those who hate the MCU) but it turns out that the direction of these men was bad in cherry. Now his performance, his acting skills (if you read the reviews) has always been praised... even today. (there is an agenda against him for being part of Marvel duh)
The common people love him, praise him... and even on Twitter they always defend him with..."the broh needs a better agent" "he always chooses bad projects" etc... they know he's a good actor. Those who say it's a flop...who are they? some Z fans who hate him bcuz he dates her and are jealous. Fans of other actors who for some reason feel threatened by Tom.... (and why do you think that is?😌) some idiots who think they're cinephiles and believe that hating everything that has to do with marvel makes them intellectual...🤪 ? LMAO.
You say marvel flop too? huh that will never be the case with Spider-Man, don't worry...Tom is not just any Marvel actor...he plays the most beloved character of all superheroes and the most famous. And people love it... 🤭
To this day his most watched movie outside of the MCU is TDATT, and most people always praise Tom's performance. And it's the most viewed bcuz it's from Netflix. If TCR .....
None of my friends have Apple TV and even I had to pay for 2 months of that horrible app just for him.. when I recommend the series... no one has Apple TV... I hate apple tv...Anyway.
I give you some advice, if you have such a poor perception of him, I think there are more actors out there for you to follow.
Tom is 27 years old...not 40. There are actors who were recognized just last year with 5 years older than Tom...and I am not going to mention names...🤐🤓

So I'm gonna hold out on an Official Opinion on Zhang Rishan, the character, until I read the Mystic Nine book, but the actor who plays him? Zhang Ming'en?
I am absolutely, definitely a fan.
Like. The way he plays him, you can tell that this in a very old man in a young body. The body-language, the weird little sniffles, all of it.
Even the figthing style he was given: contrary to the much more fiery and energetic Xiaoge, Rishan just can't be arsed. He fights exactly like Cohen the Barbarian and his Silver Horde is described in the Discworld books: no hurry, zero superflous movements, just always conveniently out of the way of any hits and weapons.
Also the 'Liang Wan impersonates Zhang Rishan' sequence was flawless, I loved every second of it.
Hats off, sir!

I'm gonna be honest, I don't have much hope for the Red, White and Royal Blue movie, if they ever even get around to releasing it. I think the guy who plays Henry was chosen because he played Pierce Brosnan's character's son Prince Charming in Cinderella bc tbh he looks like a Ken doll. Kissing Booth guy is way too beefcake and has zero sparkle to play Alex. Alex Claremont-Diaz is all about sparkle.
More than anything it's produced by Greg Berlanti, worst white gay to happen to network TV. Speaking as someone who was obsessed with his DCTv shows, Love, Simon was the only worthwhile thing he's ever done, and even that doesn't make up for his studio's treatment of Keiynan Lonsdale and literally every actor they've ever worked with, especially women and actors of colour. He and his merry band of ghouls need to go out of business yesterday. His brand of queer "representation" is pure white cis het respectability politics, built on sexual harrassment, racism, misogyny, worker exploitation and white privilege. I do not want this man and his toxic waste dump to get their hands on any more artists or crew of colour.
RW&RB works because it's a political wish fulfillment fantasy by a queer person that advocates for something more than just white liberal guff. Berlanti is nothing but that. Considering how much further left the young queer zeitgeist has moved since the book was published in 2019, what with the 2020 BLM protests and covid, the movie should also reflect that in order to represent queer people of colour. If not, you're just putting vulnerable people in the hands of racists and misogynists to tokenize characters of colour and erase our actual interests.
Anyway, my fancast for Alex is young Tyler Posey (bisexual Latino anyone?) and Henry is young William Moseley. Both are too old now to play the roles; fortunately the landscape of my imagination is much richer and more timeless than any live-action adaptation.
