Ok, that's good. I'll have to think of how to go foward from here.

If Sparrow Heart had died before taking leadership, I was going to write that as her being INFURIATED by it. Remembered forever as Skystar's stooge, his general, his loyal servant, but never having power of her own. And, generations later, she'd grab for it in any way possible.

With her being Sparrowstar, I'm going to keep her ambition and desire for power, but she had a chance to enact her vision in life. She was the first cat to inherit 9 lives, even, with how BB!Skystar is the first leader to die. She continued his "legacy," not out of any actual love or respect to him, but because it's HER TURN.

All these years of groveling, of having to bend and bargain around the desire of stronger cats, now it's HERS. She is the one who bargains, who makes others grovel. No one will make her scared and powerless ever again.

It's going to continue the ferocious rivalry between SkyClan and ThunderClan, especially as Owlstar takes power. Sparrowstar is definitely gone by the time of the River Kingdom's succession crisis, though, she's too battle hungry to rule for so long.

Or maybe Sparrowstar will end up inventing some kitty war crimes and become one of the first Dark Forest cases. After all, it's very in-character of BB!Skystar to not officialize an heir, and force Sparrow Heart to have to carve a path through his bio-kits for the power she is owed...

(Mumbling to self: and then that makes a pretty interesting claim for SkyClan during the River Kingdom succession crisis... "we need no claim to your throne to take it from you")

so I like to think that, like we say "sing yay many verses of this song while washing your hands to make sure you've done it long enough" they're doing the same with Imperial hymns

(not sure about the Militarum's doctors since they sometimes lean into "ghastly WW1 field hospital" vibes, but the SH's actually study new things and have access to medical texts and research mutation and xenobiology so I think they have a grasp of medical sanitation and PPE, most Astartes probs do too)

it's neither of their music tastes and honestly they don't like the song on a musical level, but when antonio heard it on the radio one day all he could think about was alastor and their relationship. he showed it to alastor and alastor 'got dust in his eyes' because it understood

they saved each other from themselves. neither of them had the greatest start in life. they were both suffering. they saw themselves as unloveable and broken, and then they met each other and thought how does someone so far out of my league want me because of my flaws, not despite my flaws? they caught each other and kept each other safe. they were each other's saviours.

they're not fixed by any means, and it wasn't easy to get to the point where they're somewhat okay, but they're whole with each other now. they may be broken but their broken pieces make a whole. they have their bad moments. alastor hasn't had a full night of sleep since he was a baby and antonio still can't manage three meals a day. but antonio is still there holding alastor after another bout of sleep paralysis, alastor is still there making antonio's favourite snacks to encourage him to eat just a little bit. intimacy will always be hard for alastor just like how opening up about how he feels and allowing himself to be cared for will always be hard for antonio, but they don't push each other.

they're unusual, unconventional. love is a concept that has never existed at all to alastor, and yet he still loves antonio. his love may not be something anyone else understands, because it's a strange kind of love, but that makes it all the more special to antonio because it's a special feeling, only one person feels in the way that alastor feels it and the person he feels it for just so happens to be antonio.

they're unusual but it works for them and it helped them when they were at their lowest. and they've lasted longer than the relationships some of their alloromantic/allosexual friends have been in so they're doing something right, even if they're doing it right by doing it 'wrong'

they are horribly fucked up but they love and respect each other. they communicate, they create healthy boundaries, they support each other. sure antonio is a little disturbed by taxidermy but you bet your ass he keeps a jumping spider taxidermied terrarium on his desk because alastor made it for him. alastor isn't the biggest fan of modern music but if antonio hums a song a lot you bet it shows up as background music for his podcast that week. because antonio enjoyed it, so alastor enjoys it purely because it makes him happy. to them, "happy wife, happy life" isn't 'keep your wife happy so she isn't annoying and irritating', it's 'this makes my wife happy, and my wife being happy makes me happy, therefore i will do what makes her happy so we can both get joy'.

their dance is messy but it works and it works beautifully.
