BPP, I'm not one to cry over the hate the boys get because I truly believe they are resilient as hell and I try to curate my space as much as possible so that I'm not subjected to it. Im so bummed though about Hobi's JITB hope edition dedication and how he was concerned that his and armys relationship wouldn't be able to get past him not releasing a physical. Im disappointed that solo narratives were able to infiltrate army spaces and convince the boys to change their mind about something. Im really sending all the love and good energy to Hobi and all the members today and I sincerely hope this wont occur again in the future. Thanks for letting me use this space to vent a little

People on Twitter keep whining about how ppl complaining about jitb album format made Hobi feel bad and I of course feel bad he was disappointed with the feedback but it's such a mind numbingly stupid thing to be mad about he's a professional musician. It's part of his job fans dont have to like everything all the time sometimes people aren't gonna like a song or even an album or the photoshoots or artist merch or styling or if you choose to release your album as a piece of colorful cardboard with no cd and everyone just has to cope with it. Hobi is a first day million seller and we got live versions of some songs now people need to take the w and be happy and everyone who wanted a physical physical better be over the fucking moon

Anon in ask 2, since you're the only person actually asking me a question (lol), I'll work with your ask.

"were people wrong to ask for a physical album?"

Let's look at it this way. If Hobi released a song you didn't like, would it be wrong for you to say you didn't like the song, and mention instead the genre of music you'd like him to do instead?

The answer to that, is no. Obviously. As I've been saying, I think it's perfectly fine for you to not like something BTS /Hobi does, the music they make, choices you disagree with, etc, and it's not like there's a gag order in the fandom so of course you can say so and leave that feedback for the artist because they monitor fan chatter. You'd be right to do this, and it works both ways for positive and negative feedback.

Now, would you still be right if you:

Defaulted to asserting that Hoseok had no agency and that the choice of the song (or no physical albums) was forced on him by the company

Trended hashtags with your demands on him, asserting that he was a pawn the company was using and sabotaging to prop up maknae-line members

Threatened to boycott and actually boycotted his album

Review-bombed Weverse album app, Weverse shop app, and Weverse app

Reported and took down ARMY playlists for JITB that included other members' songs

Threatened to send trucks stating your demands for a physical album (or to continue the example from above, a song genre you prefer)

Became abusive to other members in the group, asserting that they are complicit in Hobi's 'mistreatment'

Took your frustration out on other members, disparaging them and their solo debuts

Threatened the other members, Bang PD, and PDogg with physical harm

Continued this barrage for months on end

Etc...

Would you be right to do this?

The answer to this, too, is no. Obviously.

Hobi akgaes who didn't get a physical album did all of the above for their 'feedback' because of what fundamentally motivates them.

The thing about akgaes is that at the crux of it, they don't actually think highly of the person they stan. Especially in the case of BTS solo stans. If you listen to akgaes talk about their 'fave' members... pick any member: Hobi, Jimin, Taehyung, etc, they all think said member is "too kind", "too humble", "too helpless" etc, to assert themselves to receive things they actually want for their careers within reason. Akgaes in general don't actually think the artists have any real say over their career direction.

They ultimately consider that artist a puppet who is supposed to bend or acquiesce to meet any demand made of them, and so when they see outcomes they don't like, the thought that it could be a choice the artist agreed to (talk less of it possibly being the artist's idea) is completely foreign to them. The only thought in an akgae's mind when they see outcomes they don't like is how to switch out who is controlling the puppet, how to force an outcome on and for the artist, an outcome that the akgae thinks is best for the artist's career in their own imagination.

They're delusional enough to believe that with their limited information of the artist's plans, resources, and limitations, that whatever they envision as goals for that artist aligns precisely with what that artist desires. They never really frame these demands as things they'd personally like or want, but as something that the artist secretly wants or outrightly deserves which the company maliciously withholds for *insert your favourite conspiracy theory here* reasons, that necessitates the akgae intervening.

So, where (some) ARMYs could look at the JITB rollout situation and think Hobi was likely involved in that outcome, even if we didn't like the outcome; where (some) ARMYs could see how even if Jimin didn't get all the MVs due to limitations unknown to us, that Jimin still has agency to effect any changes he wants in his career; where ARMYs could see how all these imperfect outcomes are still possible even while the members retain their agency.... akgaes instead default to catastrophizing any outcome they disagree with, and actively work to remove/change who controls manages the puppet artist to give them the outcomes they think is best for the artist.

As with everything else in fandom, the devil is in the details and it's unhelpful to talk in very general terms about fandom dynamics sometimes because we all know different factions could say similar things but have very different motivations. And that a lot of 'fans' are actually a bit insane. I mean, I know many of my followers are newer fans but you all should have seen by now that something like 90% of what happens in fandom is fans of various kinds criticizing things of all sorts, and that what counts as 'criticism' here covers a very wide spectrum, from abuse and slander to frankly insane irl/physical attempts and threats to change/control the artist.

Of course, ARMYs in true fandom fashion try to correct for this impulse by overcompensating, either due to

Their own guilt in joining in with mantis and akgaes at the time, or

Performative bullshit to make up for being hypocritical or to virtue signal over other ARMYs, or

As a natural consequence of how information is communicated in social systems, or

Some other reasons I can't think of at the moment.

Now the refrain from some ARMYs is that voicing any dissatisfaction with anything whatsoever is wrong. But at this point, after everything I've written above, I hope it's clear that I think fans can, should, and do express when they like and dislike certain choices, if they like. The difference between a fan and any other faction though, is that fans actually respect the artist, and recognize that even with the music industry as shady as it is, even if outcomes aren't always perfect or there are outcomes fans disagree with for the artist, that the artist is the person who ultimately knows what's best for them and has the tools to effect any needed changes. Especially in the case of BTS. BTS knows what's best for BTS and they have the ability to choose and work within their teams and the industry to effect any real changes or outcomes they want for the management of their careers. BTS does. Not Sally from Ohio, nor Jiwon from Jeonju.

In my opinion, at least.

Fanfic Writers: Director’s Cut

*twirls you around!!* HANNAHHH!!! 💜💜

Oh, man, so, as I made sure to point out in the Author’s Notes, this fic was inspired by This Art by my Buddy soggytommy on twt:

My writer brain was active at the time so I sat down and wrote a couple hundred words and DMed my buddy the wip, to which they responded by giving me more context about the scene: fighting the PDs, Leo accidentally blows something up, Mikey suffers the consequences.

So, the actual bts is that I Had been considering making this full angst with comfort at the end, but y’know!! I’m a sucker for levity during serious situations (which is probably why Mikey’s my fave, lol), so I tried to strike a balance there with Mikey kinda breaking the tension at multiple points, even with himself during the immediate aftermath of the explosion.

Also, I enjoy echoing/calling back to lines in my fics! The most obvious recurring one in this fic is the theme of Promises (Mikey promising he’ll be okay, Leo promising to tell him the end of the book, Mikey promising to tell someone immediately next time he gets badly injured). Don and Leo both tell each other at different points that they’ve done Enough. In Mikey’s POV, there’s Orders, with Mikey immediately following Leo’s command to Run and then later listening when he tells him to sleep. There’s also the Donnie SAINW trauma I slipped in, with both Leo and Mikey noticing he doesn’t react well upon seeing Mikey with arm injuries. Probably a few more but these are the clearest ones off the top of my head, lol!

Oh, and here are some of my favorite lines:

- “Aw, du’...” Mikey glares up at him. “Cli’ ‘angr.” << *points at my bestie* turtle who wants immediate gratification instead of suspense and probably loves to binge stories in one sitting

- A bookmark sticks out of it, tasseled with yarn and made up of layered and colorful construction paper and filled with childhood memories. A frail thing (a treasured gift) that has somehow survived all these years and unintentional moves. << *points again* baby Mikey made that :3

- The stabby thing needs to stay in his arm or else he’s off to join the Big Turtle in the Sky. << Personally the funniest joke I had Mikey think to himself next to the This Mission Blows line

- I know it’s Bad, he tells his brain as the pain whites out his vision. Stop yelling at me. I know. << *Mario falling in lava owowowow noise* if I ever actually draw this scene I apologize in advance

- Leo being up meant that they could stay up late, so Donnie would tinker or read and Raph would hog the Gameboy so Mikey would be resigned to reading comics. Sometimes, he’d slip under Leo’s blanket tent and try to read with him, asking him questions about the heroes and the villains and the story. << I wrote this Because of your (yes, You, Hannah) comment on Ch1 which made me think about Leo reading to his bros. Also, I totally drew a thing inspired by this because it’s The Most Precious Thing

- “Nope!” Mikey forces a leg to kick out of his blanket, missing Leo by a mile but sending the message loud and clear. “Y’know what? No blame game! No one wins in the blame game.” << *points for one last time* things I’ve actually done as a kid tucked in bed and a sibling says something stupid so I kicked out to let them know so

- And, he finally gets a hug from his dad, a carefully gentle thing from Splinter that he soaks in like the rays of the sun. << Actual Favorite Line that I will feel proud of til the end of time and also maybe draw at some point cuz Splinter Hug

According to deuxmoi, word around Chicago is Jesse wanted out for a while. So, it might have really been his decision. Which is bad timing with the Kelli Giddish firing.

This ramble got long, so…

If it was Jesse's choice to leave, I don't blame him one bit. Ten seasons is a long time for an actor to play the same role. Especially on a show that demands as much time and energy as PD. Especially if they stick with the recent format where he gets a featured role in 2-4 episodes a year, and for the other 18 episodes gets 2 lines of dialogue. Especially if they're planning to be like Law & Order and continue for 10 more seasons. If he wants to get out and do something else while he's still young I don't blame him one bit. Even if he just needs an extended break, that is totally valid and I fully support it.

The way it was announced feels weird though. If this has really been in the works for a while, why not announce sooner and give him a full farewell season. He's not some minor character who joined for 1 or 2 years. He has held that show down for 9 seasons. Before that he helped launch it on Chicago Fire. He deserves a proper exit.

At the very least, why not announce it at the end of last season. Not 15 hours before rolling out publicity for the new season, which BTW your fave will hardly be in, enjoy!!

Plus when it's an actor's choice to leave, they usually give a reason. An actual statement. Not a small gracious thank you in a Variety article and then a retweet of said article calling it sad and again thanking the fans.

Anyway. I'm not about to trust some random unsourced submission to a gossip site as fact. The actual fact is we don't know whose choice this was. We don't know why it's happening and that's part of what makes it so hard to grasp.

Talking this through with all of you really is helping me process it though. I hope that in a few weeks we'll be healed enough to enjoy our last few moments with Jay Halstead.

And what I really hope at this point, is for Jesse to get an awesome new role on an awesome new show. If that's what he wants. Because I love him so. much. and desperately want to keep seeing him on my TV.

Why are you all so mean to Marina? She’s done nothing but support all the cast and promote the show. She’s the only one who consistently does that. Not to mention all the content she’s given you over the years (that she did not have to do). So what if she uses her influence to bring attention to causes that matter to her or do a little advertising?

Being upset your fave left the show doesn’t give you an excuse to be so mean all the time. Especially to someone who had nothing to do with it. And yes, she’s friends with Torrey and Sophia. Clearly Jesse doesn’t care. It’s called being an adult - maybe you all should try it.

Quite frankly, I think you’re the one who needs the lesson in being an adult. Just because someone doesn’t like someone else, that doesn’t make them a mean person. It means they have preferences.

I’ve made it very clear I don’t like Marina, but I’ve never said a legitimate harsh word about her or attacked her online, and I certainly don’t tag her to tell her about how much I don’t like her. So please don’t lump me in with those that do. I also haven’t mentioned Sophia or Torrey at all lately, so it’s really interesting you made that connection about them on your own. Since you opened the door on this conversation though, maybe you can explain to me why some of you don’t like Tracy and why you do the exact same thing to her. Why do you bash on her for simply existing? Make insults at her? Threats even? And not only make those unnecessary comments, but tag her in them too just to make sure she sees it. Is it time for the pot to meet the kettle yet, or do you wanna get off your soapbox now?

And just so we’re clear, my not liking Marina has absolutely nothing to do with Jesse leaving Chicago PD. I didn’t like her long before that.

I can't believe Tracy is leaving PD now to! What do you think is going to happen to the show now? I am seeing twitter talking about the showing being cancelled but has there been confirmation of that?

I feel like I can just copy and paste my same answer when I was asked about Jesse leaving...because the reality is the same.

As much as I love Jesse and Tracy neither of them leaving the show is going to drastically change the overall ratings Its an ensemble show. Not one character on this show carries the show, so one character leaving will not tip the scale in any real drastic way...certainly not enough to get the show cancelled.

Also PD has always been a show with a revolving cast since Sophia left, then Al, then Antonio....its not new for this show to have characters leave and new ones come in, its built into the structure of the show. Not to mention the show has never done any big dramatic earth shattering stakes to make tuning in more worth it. Anna, a C character's death had more pull on the audience then Al's death and he was an OG character. The show is great a writing their detective's being held captive and fighting for their lives, but terrible at actually creating stakes or taking away character's in a dramatic fashion. Everyone that has left PD has done so at their own request.

The ratings for PD have been all over the place since the show premiered - it started on the low side and then slowly built a solid viewership but in the last few seasons that viewership has started to decrease, which again is just a sign of shows that are on the air for a long time tend to lose viewers over time not gain them. Look at Grey's or SVU - they're not rating juggernauts like they used to be. Its just the eb and flow of TV media. And now we have to factor in streaming so that changes viewership as well.

As for the show nothing is going to change - they'll fill Tracy's role with another actor just like did with Jesse and the show will go on. I am sure we'll see a dip in ratings this season but that's partly to do with the strike and the fact that the season is going to be much shorter. We also don't know Tracy's episode count. I would think with a very short season she'd be around for all the episodes (I am guessing they're only going to get 13 for the year), i can't imagine she'll leave after 3 but that remains to be seen.

I am going to reiterate the same thing I said previously which is that the online twitter/tumblr fandom does not even account of 1/4 of the viewership of the show. I am sorry that people feel twitter has any pull or sway in viewership but that's just not correct. For one a good portion of PD fans aren't even American which means they're viewership doesn't even count. And for those that are American if they don't have Neilson rating boxes on their TVs, then their viewership also doesn't count toward the weekly rating. So when you factor those two things the pool of likely viewers gets drastically cut down even further.

I understand people are upset with the show in the past few years, I am one of those people, but to act like you can get a show cancelled by not watching because your fave character is choosing to leave, is just immature not to mention you're hoping for a show that employ's 200+ people who are dependent on their weekly pay cheque, to be cancelled. Its just an awful perspective and I can't stand seeing stupid comments like that.

What’s your all time favorite ship? oh fuck...honestly? it's probably steddie. my OTP is destiel, like, they are the blueprint, they are the ones i have the most history with, but in complete honesty: in my head steddie is much more fluid/blorbo-y than destiel are. dean and cas are so fuckin' good in canon and kinda rare-er for me to find a good au with them that they still seem like themselves? if that makes sense?

with steddie, they are so moldable and fit into any spot you put them; i prefer canon adjacent but anything they do seems so correct, whereas dean and cas will always be a hunter and angel you know? that's how their story has been for so long, and all my fave fics of them are canon spn universe - a spell, a different timeline, a hunt, it's always them™

idk if that makes sense to anyone else, but maybe it's because destiel have been destiel for like 11 seasons and 15 years, and steddie have so little with only one season/summer that they are more moldable but... 🤷‍♀️

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? honestly, it's probably my hispanic!eddie au, but my casper!eddie has been falling off at an exponential rate and it's bumming me out tbh

What are your writing strengths? i think it's dialogue? i think that's the thing i've gotten the most comments about, the wit and snark of eddie and his internal voice, or just conversations in general. i like to think through how conversations will go in a fic first, like, how exactly they would realistically speak to each other or how an accent (wayne) would come through and how best to type it out so others can 'hear' it correctly 😊

17. What are your writing weaknesses? writing out action/feelings well. maybe it's cause i get super engrossed in what i'm writing and am looking at it too long, but a lot of the time it feels like i'm just writing "he did this 😐 and then he did this 😐 then said this."

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? i do my best!!! like with the short drabble i did that started the hispanic!eddie au, i did best i could to translate the couple spanish phrases in it, but i don't speak spanish myself. my husband is hispanic and is fluent, but when i wrote that one i was much to embarrassed by why i would be asking him, that i didn't ask him to translate 😭

19. First fandom you wrote for? stranger things! the st/steddie fandom was so supportive with my secret admirer drabble that i made it my first full fic!!!

20. Favorite fic you’ve written? my fave that i've written is my mixtape fic i'm outta my head over you. i wrote so much for it in such a short amount of time for steddie week but it really came together and was all me!

i do also LOVE how my version of a princess diaries rewrite came out, but the plot is just a copy of the movie and isn't really mine you know?

Okay, I keep seeing Chicago Fire stuff on my dash and I'm becoming increasingly intrigued despite myself... is it like the police procedural genre but for the fire department? or something completely different? That last gifset says it's from 2012 and I've never even heard of it??? I'd assumed it was a new show??? If you're at all inclined, I'd love to hear a rant about What This Show Is because I had no idea it existed until I started seeing stuff reblogged and now my curiosity is piqued

Oh my lord where do I begin?

Tldr: It's a drama about a firefighters. It started I think in 2012, I only started watching it last year but I've gotten all caught up. They're in the middle of season 11 now.

But it's so freaking good. Something is always going wrong (hence drama) and each season usually has one overarching problem and then a few small ones. They do cooperate with the pd sometimes though the first season not as much, as a dirty cop tries to kill one of the lieutenants. But they're usually helpful with the pd.

There's a few character deaths that suck which just sort of rip your heart out. It gives kinda a good insight to what firefighters do in a busy urban area tho. It's fiction obviously but they do work with actual firefighters to get things right and one of them ,Tony Ferris, is an actual firefighter with the Chicago fire department. He's not a main main character, but its still cool.

But it's a drama, so shit happens. Like all the time. And sometimes it absolutely sucks (like what the assholes have done to Cindy this season). At one point the chief gets framed for murder and arrested. Another lieutenant, severide, has had people try to kill him a few times, and had his ass kicked. Herrmann (my personal fave) is such a good guy but sparky as fuck and makes multiple bad decisions. He also has the best wife in the whole world, Cindy (I love them so much). He also sets a couch on fire in front of the company's CEO to get him to increase safety standards of his furniture, and it works!

But then it also touches on important issues, like the increased risk of cancer firefighters face, which promts new protocols of equipment and gear cleaning. Mental illness associated with the stuff they see and do, and the death of colleagues that they have to grieve and move on from. And how people in lower income areas struggle and get into trouble. There's a season where Dawson and Casey try to adopt a little boy and end up giving him back to the father and its breaks my heart. They touch briefly on how hard it is for women to get high up in the department because of politics. Although they don't focus at all really on politics, there is an episode where Herrmann screams at his sone for knealing during the anthem but then Herrmann defends his kid to the principal which is super cool. He's got 5 kids and is a pretty good dad, usually. There is one season or two when Casey, one of the fire lieutenants, becomes an alderman so there's some politics in that. There's also a few episodes on substance abuse, and how it affects the people around you.

One episode they get locked in a jail. Another episode they rescue people froma crashes helicopter stuck on a roof. They open a bar and name it Molly's and have to chase off a mob type guy who tries to burn it down at one point. Herrmann beats the crap out of guy who's Crack habit killed his kid. There's an episode where the paramedics get abducted. But everything turns out fine. And then there's episodes where they get married, there's three or four of those and its precious. They have a bbq where there's a surprise promotion. One paramedic Brett, starts a paramdicine van, that goes around helping g people with medicine and stuff, like a visiting nurse type thing kinda. Severide gets married in Vegas, which turns out ok although ots doesn't last. They also get a firehouse dog named pouch who they give away later, for very touching reasons. And then they get another one, a dalmation named Tuesday. Both of which are precious. Some of them have kids, which never fails to make a smile.

There's just so much. But it's such a good show.

It's about the hardships they face and how they deal with the shit that happens in life. And then the joy of what they do and the relationships they have and make. And how they touch snd change peoples lives.

And they absolutely drag eachother through the mud. Sometimes ruthlessly. It's hilarious and I love them for it. There so much sass. God so much sass. It's a really really good show. There's a lot of kinda dark stuff but it's broken up by some positivity and/or comedy and some poignant moments. It shows really good relationships or how to deal with really bad ones.

They're idiots in different ways but also all very lovely. I love them.

They have a few gay characters, too. Right now it's just the one, and he's not doing so good in the dating department. But he's fantastic.

I'm hoping this was at least somewhat coherent. It's kinda late and I'm a bit tired. But I love this show so very much. Easily one of my favorite shows ever. 1000/10 definitely would recommend to everyone. It's on NBC or their streaming platform: peacock (i don't have that one tbh). They usually have a chicago one (which is med fire and pd, three shows) Wednesday at 7pm EST. It's also on ion (I think?), which for anyone in the US with Verizon is channel 31, every Tuesday from like 12pm to about 2 or 3 am the next day, and usually in order. I think that channel is on season 3 rn.

Please ask if you need/want more details. I tried not to spoil anything. But I will rant in more detail if you'd like! I also have gifs but I didn't want to make this too long

why do you think jikook are always alleged to having no backbones? army seem to always think the other 5 members can stand on their own and defend themselves but somehow with jikook there are rhetorics going around that they're puppets of hybe/bang pd or they're company favourites. jikook as individuals are so sure of what they want and who they are though although of course when you work in a company, there will always be trade-offs but that doesn't mean you lose your autonomy. they just really seem like the people who are adamant in living in their own terms. they're just always portrayed as the victims and it's not only solos who spread these - even "OT7" say these things.

It's a real shame how people victimize both Jimin and Jungkook. Seven and Golden is because JK is a 'blank slate empty vessel' who has no real spine to refuse carrying out the evil overlord's orders, and Jimin is either a helpless doormat who cannot advocate for himself or the long-suffering principled artist who has chosen not to debase himself for THH playlisting on Spotify even though it's something he rightfully deserves. For both members their careers are happening to them and their own responsibility for their actions is diminished. That's the insidious thing about all the -isms and -ions people like to throw about during fandom 'discourse'. It's that the real life examples of a person infantilizing their grown male faves, victimizing them, otherwise writing up conspiracy theories and peddling fan fiction... these examples never register for the people who most need to see it because they're already sucked in. It doesn't matter how much discourse they participate in, they're already over-invested and are themselves engaging in the -isms and -ions. Regardless of whatever they call themselves, whether or not they even think they're in the fandom, once they're sucked in everything they perceive is twisted and twisted in predictably the same ways. That's what I've observed.

Like I said, a real shame.

Ok, I had my reservations but I actually don't mind the Judd/Wyatt storyline? Like first, I'm so glad they didn't have Judd try to hide any of this from Grace (I mean Judd "I love my wife" Ryder would never but still). She was in the know from the get go and was the one who got Wyatt's contact info.

And who knows? Maybe Grace and Judd decide not to have any more children. And this show isn't gonna last forever or long enough for us to see Charlie in her teens (unless they do a time skip or two). So, this would still be a chance for us to see them parent an older kid while also seeing them raise a newborn, infant, toddler, and so forth. Surely, it's gonna be a helluva challenge learning how to parent for two different kids at different stages in their life while just being new parents in general.

Also very much want to point out and appreciate how they let Grace's emotions just be REAL. Like she said, she knew it wasn't "fair." She knew the feelings she was feeling were confusing. She knew that Judd having a child before they met and before they had Charlie doesn't take away from the family he has now. But it was still upsetting. To believe that you had given the love of your life his first child, only to just soon after, find out that that wasn't the case. And yes, it's kind of irrational when you look back on it, but it shouldn't and doesn't invalidate her feelings. It's a lot to process.

It just goes to speak on the strong foundation of their marriage for Grace to have no problem articulating/communicating her anger to him. It's why I have no doubt that this will not be a significant obstacle in their marriage. That and the fact that we see Judd ruminating over how best to navigate this whole situation without hurting anyone in the process. And of course, like the angel she is, Grace comes back in stride and makes sure that Judd knows that she's in this with him 100%. And her inviting Wyatt's mom for dinner so they can all talk was her taking the steps to show that she was on his team and that they would be on this journey together as a united front. ✨

I Don't Wanna Be Unfair | 01

A/N: Hi! Back on my bullshit with another fic. I'm not even particularly sure where this came from, but the inspiration hit and I just let it ride tbh. I've never written for SOA before so this is a first for me. Also, I'll make better graphics when I get the time lol.

Pairing: Jax Teller x OC (McKenzie Gilbert)

Summary/synopsis: Fresh off a broken engagement, McKenzie Gilbert has a one night stand with a random guy she never plans to see again. Soon after, their paths cross, which complicates several situations at hand.

“Want another one?”

McKenzie looked up and was met with pitying eyes from the bartender. He glanced down at her empty shot glass before peering back up at her, awaiting a response. She pondered for a moment as to whether another shot was a good idea, but ultimately decided fuck it before nodding her head.

Her second thoughts dissipated as she realized she wasn’t even particularly drunk. Not even all that tipsy. She’d been sitting here long enough that the alcohol previously consumed had already osmosed. Part of her was upset because it had been her every intention of getting plastered tonight, but then again, he wasn’t worth that. He wasn’t worth destroying her liver anymore than necessary.

The bartender, having a general sketch of most people’s mindsets and reasons for coming into bars, knew she was obviously not having a good time right now. He stood there for a moment and decided to put on his therapist hat, “You alright, chica? Anything else I can get you?”

Before she could answer, he had provided her with a glass of water and another shot.

“I’m good, thanks.” She replied. It took a lot of effort to gather a smile, but she gave him a small one, appreciating his thought to check in on her.

“Well… if you wanna talk about it, I’m a professional listener, too. Sort of a hidden skill as a bartender.”

“Thanks, but I’m not really in the talking mood right now. I’ll take one more shot though.” McKenzie kept her voice level, holding back the snark she wanted to release. He was just being nice and doing his job, but she really didn’t want to be bothered. Thankfully, he took the hint and walked away to tend to other customers after refilling her glass.

She kept the shot glass on the counter, not jumping to knock it back yet. She meant it, she wasn’t getting drunk tonight over him. Even if this wasn’t the life she imagined for herself as of now. Even though she no longer had any direction or destination in mind for where she would go from here.

Marriage wasn’t particularly something she envisioned for herself, but when the opportunity came, she said yes to the man who proposed to her. And she was excited. Excited at the prospect of being someone’s wife. Having a husband. Planning a wedding, a day of celebrating with everyone you love in one room. She thought she met someone who was worthy of sharing such a day with her. She just knew that man loved her. His words and the ring that used to rest on her left ring finger solidified that in her mind. And now everything she believed to be true was no longer so.

Only a couple of hours ago, she’d been happily engaged. Only a couple of hours ago, she proudly wore the round cut diamond ring that proclaimed to everyone that she was betrothed. And now, here she sat with all of that nothing more than a lost dream, a broken ending. All the promises and plans and wishes had gone down the drain, her forever ending going with it.

The only thing more potent than her heartbreak right now was the anger that arose every time she thought about how she had been dragged along for almost five years, with a man who never wanted any of the things she did.

Confusion was a top three contender. Because she wondered how she missed the signs. How she hadn’t figured out beforehand that he never wanted her to be his wife. How she could have possibly messed this up. They were nowhere near perfect, God knows, but she never felt like it was too much to the point that it couldn’t be fixed. That they couldn’t work through it together. Yes, she was incredibly stubborn, and yes, he could be particularly arrogant, but…. they were in love. And that should have been enough, right? Unless it wasn’t. Or unless he really didn’t love her. Which was so obviously the case, but how long had it been like that? How long had it been when he fell out of love with her? Was he ever?

Confusion rose in rank as to what she was feeling. More questions arose the longer she sat there, reflecting over her now broken engagement. Was this something he’d been thinking about for a long time? Or was it sudden, a split decision? She thought back to his behavior these past few months: he’d been coming home later (or sometimes not at all), he was more distant than usual, they were arguing more. The feeling that maybe he’d been seeking comfort in the arms of another woman floated through her mind more than once during this time, and she even gathered the courage to ask him straight up if he had. But he said no and so she believed him. He said “I love you” and so she believed him. Because if she didn’t, that would give credence to the little voice in the back of her head that told her that something was off.

And here she was in this random bar in the middle of nowhere, hating herself for not listening.

And with that, she picked up the shot and knocked it back. She deserved the burning sensation in the back of her throat. A punishment for her asininity. And also a distraction from her aching.

Tomorrow, she would have to go to the clubhouse and face him. She would have to keep her head high because she’d be damned if she let anyone see her fall apart. She also couldn’t give him the satisfaction. She’d walk in tomorrow and pretend that her heart hadn’t been ripped from its chest.

But for tonight, she didn’t want to think about any of that. Tonight needed to be a night for distraction and self-indulgence.

Because no matter how much she wished she would never see him again, she couldn’t do that. He was a part of her world and he wasn’t going anywhere. And she knew he wasn’t so she had no choice but to face it. And she would face it with as much gracefulness and strength she could muster because anything less was unacceptable to her.

But for tonight at least, she could abandon all of that. She purposefully avoided having drinks at the clubhouse bar, not wanting to encounter him or anyone else for the time being. That’s why she drove out on the skirts of town to find this place, a bar on neutral ground without any club affiliations. She also didn’t want to have a peek at him taking home another woman or better yet, simply taking a woman right there at the club. She couldn’t even stand the thought, quickly whishing the visual from her mind. And that was confirmation right there that she made the right decision, because she surely wouldn’t have been able to control her emotions had she seen it in real time, in person. Maybe their engagement hadn’t even stopped him from doing just that in the past, but either way, it was now moot. She didn’t want any part in witnessing the sight.

There were loud cheers down the bar that jolted McKenzie from her thoughts. She rolled her eyes when she found the source, seeing a bunch of frat guys on winter break, partake in a beer chugging contest. The time she spent in her head left her just now noticing that the bar had gotten more crowded. A basketball game played on the screen, a group of girlfriends were having a girl’s night out, and a few dates were canoodled together in booths. She would probably barely hear her own voice if she were to start speaking right now with all the buzz and liveliness around her. And she definitely didn’t hear the bar door opening or the sound of footsteps that stopped until they were right beside her.

She only noticed when the bartender reappeared to serve the new patron, “Hey, what can I get you, man?”

To her left, was an unfamiliar blonde, waiting at the counter. He had on a black hoodie with his hood on his head, though his gelled back blonde hair peeked a little outside of it. His face wore a laidback smirk on his face as he greeted the bartender. When the bartender turned his back to get him his drink though, the smirk on the blonde had faded some and a bit of weariness colored his features. It was only a few seconds and the careless demeanor returned as he was handed a glass of whiskey. He turned to leave his spot and glanced McKenzie's way as he backed up some. He flashed her a flirtatious smile and wink before he continued on his way, walking towards the back of the bar.

Over the next hour or so, she broke herself out of her mind and just sat and watched all around her. There weren’t a lot of moments where she could sit and just be. It was a privilege she didn’t get to indulge in a lot of the time. Between her job as a paramedic and being involved in what was technically a crime syndicate, relaxation wasn’t usually afforded to her. And so she sipped on her water and just observed. She didn’t want to invite attention to herself by looking at anyone too hard or too long, but her eyes couldn’t help but bounce back to that mystery blonde every so often.

I'll Be Seeing You

Inspiration: Kevin being Kevin (Also the "I'll be seeing you" thing between Peyton and Lucas from One Tree Hill), also the lack of Kev fics is simply blasphemous

Summary: Kev doesn't like you walking home by yourself

It felt like the night had been dragging on. You’d been having fun, sure, but you felt drained from all the energy spent dancing, talking, and drinking. It was also the end of the day, or more like, the early hours of a brand new day. The festivities celebrating Stella’s promotion were still going on, but you could feel the exhaustion wearing down in your bones. It took you a few seconds to even gather enough vigor to rise from the bar stool and begin making your goodbye rounds with everyone.

You caught Kevin’s eye as you began walking towards the door and so you made a quick detour to where he was sitting. The two of you had always been friendly with each other, whether it be during the times you interacted at work or whenever you ran into each other here at Molly’s. You saw him when he had first come in with Ruzek and Burgess, but now he was sitting all alone with Burgess gone for the night and Ruzek grabbing another drink at the bar.

“Heading home already?” He asked as he saw your crossbody around your frame.

“It’s one a.m.” you defended.

Kevin chuckled, “Didn’t take you for a girl scout, Dubois.”

He accepted the playful swat you gave him on his shoulder while feigning hurt.

“You called an Uber?”

“Nah, I only live down the street.”

Kevin frowned, “Sooo, you’re gonna walk?”

You shrugged, “Yeah, my feet ain’t broke. I always walk when I know I’m gonna be drinking here. No use in driving my car for like two blocks.”

Kevin shook his head in a playful admonishment, “You a first responder, you s’posed to know better.”

He downed the rest of his drink and stood up from his seat. You looked at his empty beer bottle and gave him a pointed glare. It, for sure, wasn’t the first drink he had had tonight. He caught the glare and put his hands up in defense, “What?”

“You a first responder, you s’posed to know better,” you threw back at him, “I know you don’t think I’m about to get in your car when you’ve probably had just as much tonight as I’ve had. And don’t even bring up our difference in size before I make Ruz come over here with a Breathalyzer.”

“Okay, okay, Miss Smarty. And what if I was about to offer to walk you home? Then what, huh?”

You couldn’t help but look away with a smirk at his retort, not realizing that’s where he was going with this. His close proximity to you didn’t help matters as your face warmed up.

“Ah ha! That’s what I thought.” He grabbed his jacket and put it on, “Let me go holla at Ruzek and I’ll take you home.”

You weren’t even given the chance to decline the kind offer before he was off saying goodnight to his partner. You gave a final wave and congratulatory air kiss to Stella before heading to wait towards the door. You heard Sylvie yell a “text me when you get home!” and you smiled and saluted in acknowledgement of the request.

A second later, Kevin had joined you and reached over your head to hold the door open for you to exit. He made a show of silently gesturing “after you” with his hands before following you out into the Chicago night air. He draped one of his shoulders around you and your cheeks warmed as you realized this was the first time that the two of you had touched in this manner. A shake of the hand here, a tap on the shoulder there, but never had either of you been in as close of an embrace as this. Maybe his meager drunkenness had caused him to be a little touchier than normal. And maybe your stupor had given you the comfort to lean into his arm. Either way, you both comfortably walked the path to your place with his arm still around you.

“Seriously, though, you shouldn’t be walking home by yourself. Especially while drunk.”

“Well, to be fair, I’m not always drunk. Sometimes, I’m working shifts and obviously I’m not drinking on the job.”

Even though you were part-owner and didn’t necessarily need the extra cash, sometimes you just enjoyed serving drinks around the establishment and having fun with everyone.

“Still, D.” He wrapped his arm tighter around you as he belabored his point. Your heart skipped at the motion to the point where you shivered a little at his touch. Taking the gesture as if you were cold, he wordlessly walked behind you and leaned both of his arms around you in the attempts of gathering warmth for you.

You grinned at the gesture and allowed your head to lean into his embrace as you two continued walking. The smell of his cologne doused your senses and you wondered if there was a better sensation than what you were currently experiencing.

“Thank you,” you finally said after several minutes of silence.

“For what?”
