The Fruit Sensory videos with “inappropriate music choices” for children/babies hits the same vein of Kidz Bop taking popular music and changing the lyrics to make it “appropriate for children”. Nothing is consistently surreal is these choices people make for “children media”.

I’m so scared of YoutubeKids. No adult actually sits down to vet any of that content.

Like that weird circle of YA where the content of books alters drastically depending on where it’s falling in the “appropriate age bracket”. And I understand YA is the darkest, weirdest hole to fall into.

Need advice for this idea.

So I had an idea of a potential gift for my nephews for Christmas this year 2024. And I’m unsure of several things, for one my nephews are IPad kids and I try really hard to give them things they will love and enjoy but it is really hard since they have very few interests outside YouTube shorts or Roblox.

So they like sports and legos but their family and the rest of the extended family of aunts/uncles/grandparents/cousins all buy them sports stuff or legos and so do their parents. I want to make them something memorable and meaningful but I don’t know if it’s worth the effort.

My nephews are 7-9 years old and I want to make this something cool and personal for Christmas but it will take a lot of work and since they are iPad kids I don’t know if they’ll care since outside sports they are on their iPads or in school.

Here’s my idea;

Handmade custom pillow sized Plushies with a corresponding book and trinkets.

But I’m unsure if I should put all this effort in when in the past two years the kids open their gifts for whatever holiday or event and immediately go back to their iPads or playing some game like soccer or basketball instead of anything I’ve given them despite asking their parents what they’re into and what they like and asking the kids myself what they are into.

I’m on the fence of giving up making them gifts at all or giving them anything but giftcards. I really want to give them something they will cherish and remember getting as well as enjoying with their parents by getting books their mom or dad can read to them before bedtime. It’s why I chose books a little above their age range because I want these gifts to have a lasting impact for them. But is it worth it? Should I just get Roblox giftcards for Christmas this year?

Im asking now because making this would take a considerable amount of effort and if I’m wasting my time when my nephews only want to play soccer, watch YouTube, or play Roblox?
