Ready to call out my groomer. Please stay away from @/Marc Lovallo on Youtube and Instagram, aka former Eddsworld Movie director and currently a reviewer on Youtube. More is explained on the doc but Marc groomed me into a relationship when I was 13 and used me to fuel his fetish desires; and he was recently called out for sending a minor a photo of his bare stomach and having said minor send him feet pics.
He was chased out of the EW fandom for this but he still has a big following on Youtube, as he made a video on the situation wording it as if he did nothing wrong. Don't know if he's changed for good but people need to be aware. I'm putting communities he was in in the tags for awareness. Reblogs appreciated.

yeah so the reason your video essay is 5 hrs long brad is because you spend the whole time talking about how women have emotions and that ruins the story or something. Thats not actually an essay thats just misogyny. Your post sucks.

For whatever reason YouTube reactors always seem more positive and happy than YouTube reviewers. I guess because when you're about to review something, you're actively looking for things to hate. Also reviewers make way more money online than reactors, so understandably reviewers might take their job more seriously.

even though it requires critical thinking, a fair mind and media analysis skills to be a reviewer. it seems like it easy for anyone to get a camera and talk about media they hate or love. both popular and old ones & those who just started. is being a reviewer really that easy? what are the pitfalls of youtube reviewers
You will get the best answer from an actual YouTuber; some of them talk about how much hard work they put in researching, editing, filming locations, (if you're really ambitious) writing and rewriting the script, ensuring that your team is properly paid (yes, a lot of major YouTubers have paid employees to help them with this) navigating copyright law, and probably more that I'm not aware of.
Technically, yes, anyone with a camera and an opinion can post a video online complaining about the latest video game or anime, but you wouldn't be offering anything new or insightful. You'd just be another blowhard sitting too close to the camera complaining about cartoons.
Good videos take weeks and even months of hard work and you have to have an angle or a hook that the audience hasn't seen 100 times before.
Plus, you have to deal with YouTube's dreaded algorithm and ensure that your content doesn't contain anything that goes against YT's policies or your video risks being demonetized.
Very few people actually make a successful career off YouTube alone and the honest ones will tell you how grueling the work is and how they have to work a part-time or even a full time job just to pay the bills.
Nothing that is worth doing is easy; if it was, then we'd all be millionaires by now.

MCU YT Reviewers? Have they always been this bad?!
As I was really looking forward to Thor 4, I decided for the first time ever to check out some MCU youtube reviewers for tidbits and their initial thoughts on the film annnnddddd I'll never make that mistake again.
If you enjoyed the movie ignore these people. Why do I care if someone else didn't like something? Why would you? If you like something who cares what someone on Youtube thinks?! If you didn't like it, that's still cool.
You can twiddle down everyone's complaints, mine included, to it should have been longer. We wanted to see more, not less, and that's not ever a bad thing.
We're all free to like something or not like something and make that opinion known. Art should be discussed! Comic books and their movies contain the universal themes of life, philosophy and psychology that are hidden behind action, magic or powers. This makes it easier to process especially for kids. Where does that go wrong? Oh I don't know maybe when pretentious asses who take themselves way too seriously and overthink things to the point they miss subtlety, plot points, plot devices and then blame the movie on their own personal shortcomings? Possibly there. Or, possibly when someone is just negative and a bad time to the point they give you a headache? Maybe it's when by their own admission (Jeremy Jahns who at least owned up to it) they didn't pay that much attention to the film during their first viewing so they asked basic questions the film answered? I don't know.
Why did these people bother me? Because I'm an artist and I respect art. I love storytelling and visual art. I love film and I respect the amount of work that goes into it. I don't like people who are just trying rain on people's parade and shit on their work..... conveniently while they get paid from YouTube or some publication to do so.
Important to note: New Rockstars, Implicitly Pretentious, ScreenCrush, Blind Wave and to a lesser extent Reel Rejects are the exceptions I found. Even more so, Implicitly Pretentious has done amazing visual essays on the marvel universe with thought, research, time and care.
Implicitly Pretentious - YouTube - check em out!
Maybe if I had watched one video from some bro who couldn't let their fixation of Thor: Ragnarök go to enjoy what another movie had to offer, it wouldn't have been so bad. However, I watched about 10 and I wanted to drive a screwdriver through my head.

Crispy Burger Drip - 4☆
Video: nintendo added a very strange beef boss to nintendo switch sports and i try to unlock him
At a glance:
This episode was a really great one to begin my review series on. Poof hits some amazing highs in this episode and doesn't suffer any terrible lows. In fact he does a stellar job of immediately picking up on the badminton mechanics; I couldn't have done it faster myself! Lastly; I've ended up as confused as Poof about if there are bots online or not. I started out confident that there were only players, but now I am not so sure.
--------------------
Hello for the first time my friends. It is my pleasure to bring to you my very first review. Featured today, and will be featured many more times, is youtube's 'Poofesure'. A man I've recently fallen in love with as one of my 'Youtube White Women Who Control Me*." He is quite an acquired taste. Being the first youtuber to make me laugh in literal years; I will be analyzing his videos as a thank you letter of sorts. All critiques I posit towards him are meant with genuinely good intent and a spirit of camaraderie. Poofesure seems like a man who enjoys a challenge, and I hope one day to provide feedback that he finds challenging in a positive manner.
With that in mind: I will begin by summarizing today's featured video. As specified in the title this is a video about Nintendo Switch Sports. This is actually his second ever video on the game and he has come back to it today because Nintendo just released a costume for the game that has a hamburger head. Poof has a very frequently recurring and beloved character named 'Beefboss.' This character originated in fortnite but is perhaps more prominently featured in his Nintendo games as a Mii made to look like a hamburger head. Beefboss has a great deal of lore, but we will begin there.
Poof begins the video by struggling to sniff out where Nintendo has chosen to hide the rewards collection mechanic for this game. I don't blame him. I do not have the game myself so the only context I have is what he is showing me, and from what I can see my eyes aren't sure where to look either. He cuts to having found it,
"This is about as clear as diarrhea toilet water"
- 01:26
briefly explains it, and then gets into the meat. I, however, would like to take a moment here to point out something that is readily apparent to me but does not appear to be immediately apparent to Poof: acquiring the burger head is not only going to require filling out the entire rewards card; the rewards card is spun through and dispensed like a gachapon. I am immediately filled with agony at this realization, but we must move on.
The challenge begins with badminton. Poof will rotate between two sports this episode: badminton and tennis. His first game is against a sweet older character model. She has laugh lines so I assume she must be over 60 in real life as most people don't begin to appreciate their wrinkles until they're around there. So he fucking decimates her. I'm like. Good grief Poof you're just annihilating someone's meemaw. Poor Emma. He doesn't seem to notice and continues to get his first reward. I can hear the gears turning in his head as he begins to realize what I've already been horrified by: gachapon.
"We're gunna be at this for YEARS! oh my goodness…"
- 03:35
He ignores his dawning horror and moves on to his first game of tennis. His opponent is a girl named Julie who kind of sucks. Front Beefboss scores all her points for her; pissing Poof off severely. Poof wins magnificently, groans as he realizes how hard it's going to be to get that stupid burger head, and moves into his next games. The difficulty spike is harsh and sudden; in the video anyway. He may have cut out a great deal of his playtime as he appears to frequently do.* He is against a player named Eunice --in badminton-- who absolutely destroys him. Poof draws notice to the color of the tail on the birdie. It is following a pattern.
Both of us begin to analyze that pattern. This was an especially humorous opportunity for me as I have never played or even seen any racket game, much less badminton, played. I use the rest of the match to build what I assume is the best strategy for a game-- feel free to let me know how great or poorly I've done. The objective in badminton would appear to be luring your opponent closer and closer to front field while you remain in the back field. If done correctly, you can bait them into failing a parry which you then follow up with a hard spike to the back field behind them. There are likely other strategies but this seems to be the one NSS is tuned to.
Poof understands this rather snappily and proceeds to own a very sassy looking kid dressed in fabulous nonbinary pride colors.* He proclaims that beating the snot out of this kid brings him great joy; solidifying which of them is the bigger bitch. /lh
The final game of tennis presents an interesting query: are there bots in online? Previous to this, Poof assumes there are while I had been under the impression there definitely wasn't. Funnily enough both of us do a 180 during this match. Not only is this tennis team two players instead of a set of clones, they look extremely default. However, at the same time, this match has the most lag of any of his matches so far. Or it has the highest skill level of any of his tennis matches so far. I am not certain, neither is he; both of us now have no idea if there are bots in NSS online play.
With the video summarized; I would like to go over some of my favorite jokes and lines that I haven't gotten to yet. This episode has some really stand out laughs for me, and I want to bring attention to them.
Poof knocks it out of the park right away with his joke about the costume itself:
"What was the meme that they used to use… beef boss rtx on? Is that still relevant enough that I can say that?"
- 00:00
I can't really place why, but his genuine delivery on this really just saturated my laughter. I mean that positively. I assume the 'they' he is talking about is his fanbase which insinuates he keeps up with us, and that is always a positive for me in streamers. However, new to the fandom myself, I'd never heard the joke before so it made me laugh automatically. The heartfelt nature of the joke was just icing on top.
My next favorite line in this video is an immediate followup.
"I wonder if Nintendo added him to this game to get me to [do] another video…"
- 00:15
My autism is showing its face here and I actually cannot tell if he really means this as a joke. I hesitate to laugh in case it is a genuine hope, because I would love to share in that hope. But at the same time I have a feeling he's just taking the piss to humanize himself a bit. Regardless; made me smile.
A recurring joke throughout the video was Poof asking who even says 'crispy burger' and then immediately declaring a desire for crispy burger. Later on after he gets the apron he spends several moments describing how hot his crispy burger drip is. This moment really had me laughing too because he was just decimating his opponent, Jesse, at that time.
One of my favorite moments by far has to be when he misnames the joy-cons and calls them nunchuks. Poofesure truly lives, breathes, and only thinks about the wii. I respect it, the wii is a really fun console.
I honestly really recommend this video. It is a solid 4 out of 5 stars from me.
YTWWWCM is a funny category in my brain primarily composed of women or women-adjacent people who significantly influence my day to day life. Poofesure is the only man on this list; though he often makes jokes about being [perceived as] a woman. If he ever expresses distaste at someone else mentioning this notion I will remove this joke from my brain. But for now, please enjoy it with me.
Poofesure actually is mainly a streamer. I have a hard time sitting through streams, though. Plus I only recently found his channel, so I haven't had time to get to one of his streams. Regardless, I believe he likely cuts together only the juiciest parts for youtube. Narrowing down 1.5 to 3 hours into 15 minutes. Again, all juxtaposition, though. Not fact checking this right now myself.
Poof actually says 'girl power' in reference to this character and I just want to point out that my assumption of their attire is just as much an assumption as his. I am no more or less correct about this player's gender. urmomjohny if you're out there feel free to clarify.

‘Enola Holmes 2’ is slightly better than the first one! Millie Bobby Brown is fantastic and Henry Cavill deserves his own Sherlock Holmes spin-off.

Tiktok sensation LightLark is the final boss of bad fantasy YA— a failure built on aesthetic boards and tropes, unable to pretend it has a heart

A full summary with spoilers, analysis, quotes- and so much more on the subject of a book you should never read. This is a long piece. Like ‘Youtube Video Essay’ long.
Lightlark is joyless, a husk beyond parody, a checklist of every Island of Blood and Bone and Glass and Hearts that has come out in the last five years, built and sold on tropes and aesthetic boards. This is a book written by an author who is not a writer. It would fit in on the dregs of an amateur writing site with eerie perfection.
But Lightlark is more than that. You see, Lightlark is… a TikTok book.
EDIT:

Thanks :')
There's now a video version. I heard Tumblr likes video essay long watches on obscure very specific content... may I introduce you to:

I'm not making a dime on this, I have no horses, only like 70 hours of work looking at this mess of a book and I just want to make sure everyone knows how bad it is. Let's be bitter at this multimillionaires flop together.
