Info for writer in Thai series fandom: Lullabies

Some well know song used for lullabies, games, ect.

Notes:

I notice that using lullabies or nursery rhymes in writing is a common occurrence, so in this chapter I will give you something in case you want some Thai songs for that. Oh, but if you are more comfortable using an English song, then I would like to assure you that many of them are well known in Thai. Don't worry.

I added all song links on AO3, but just some here due to the post limit.

*Bot means a place for monks to use for rites but is sometimes used as a temple name. Watbot means Bot temple.

Originally I knew only 2 versions of this song, but since I found 4 when I searched, I put all 4 here.

The version of this song that mentions Khun Thong actually has political implications. First, is that Khun Thong died fighting for our country and we should honor his action; and then, afterward, Khun Thong kind of became a symbol of the act of a revolutionary, as that name got used in literature about the uprising on October 14th, 1973, and the massacre on October 6th, 1976.

จันทร์เจ้าขา (Moon song)

"Chaokha" is a word used by women to politely call or beg the elderly. It's quite old-fashioned and is rarely used nowadays.

จิงโจ้ Chingcho

*Chingcho have many meaning such as

a type of bird.

I grew up thinking the word Chingcho here meant the bird, but after doing some searching I found a more convincing explanation, which is that the word Chingcho in this song did not refer to anything above but the swaying movement that all things above have in common, and this song is about Chinese people who sailed to Thailand to trade and do the swaying movement in order to sail the ship. จิงเอย จิงโจ้ ching oei chingcho ching oei chingcho มาโล้สำเภา ma lo samphao making the junk sailing along the waves หมาไนไล่เห่า manai lai hao The dog barks จิงโจ้ตกน้ำ chingcho tok nam chingcho falls into water หมาไนไล่ซ้ำ manai lai sam dog repeatedly chasing จิงโจ้ดำหนี chingcho dam ni chingcho dives away, fleeing ได้กล้วยสองหวี dai kluai song wi get two hand of bananas ทำขวัญจิงโจ้ thamkhwan chingcho thamkhwan chingcho *Tham khwan refers to the practice of performing a ceremony to encourage or resurrect spirits after experiencing a loss of khwan.

It can also mean to pay damages or compensation, to give something for consolation (of the people of north Thailand), to perform rites of welcome or to compensate, or to recompense.

This one is a part of a type of poem used for sing while paddling a boat so it isn't excetly a lullaby but some people do used as one including my family. The content of this poem is to admire the beauty of the parade of royal ships. I decided that translating it would be too difficult for me. So I will just leave it at that.

SPLASH!

How in that brief moment when her body hit the water, it seemed silent. In the crashing waves it felt peaceful... And then she submerged completely, sounds immediately hitting her from all sides. The hearts of the pokemon beneath the water screaming into her ears, the voices starting an uproar that were not meant for anyone to hear. A gasp for air, only leading to freezing cold water to enter her throat and her lungs.

A harsh breath cut short by water filling her lungs as she thrashed and struggled to swim, to reach the surface. Too overwhelmed by senses all around her, echoing endlessly through the waves of water. Panic only seeming to make it worse as she sinks deeper and deeper into the freezing river that divided the two routes.

She was going to die, was she going to die-

Silva tried to gasp for more air, but only received more water, her body starting to convulse and shake as sounds around her continued to pound against her skull. It all seemed to begin to fade, shadows within the water turning dark as blue eyes stared back at her.

No, NO!

She didn't want that, she didn't want to hurt anyone, she just-

Air. AIR. Silva gasped as air soon entered her lungs and her vision began to clear. The feeling of ice soon pressing up against her stomach as she's lifted up above the water, carried 'pon the back of an avalugg. That's right that's...That was the plan, that was...

Silence, or closer to it, with warmth brought by the sound of the avalugg as it swam to the other side of the river with her laying over it. Silva coughed out water for a minute before rolling on her back and looking up, vision halved as she looked up at the sky. Night...It was night, it would be easier to travel then. She was sure that she had lost her pursuers anyway...At least for the moment.

After a few moments of deep breaths, Silva pushed herself up to sit, looking down at the avalugg and smiling. Whisper passing by her lips, loud enough for the ice type to hear.

" merci, i really appreciate yur help. "

The avalugg glanced back to look at her, then forward. A silent type, she didn't mind that at all...Not after being bombarded by sounds just below the surface of the water. She...didn't like that, she wished...she wished that it wasn't so hard to go under. It wasn't like it was always that she felt so overwhelmed. Yet she was already panicking from the moment she started to run. It did nothing to her benefit to jump into the freezing water. How lucky she was that hypothermia seemed nothing short of ineffective against her body. A lucky trait, and one that kept normal people from following her through freezing temperatures.

Though she had no doubt that within the next few hours, she might start seeing red.

When they reached the other side, Silva stood up, careful not to hurt the icy shell of the avalugg before climbing onto the shore, she looked back at them and bowed her head once more in thanks before turning forward and quickly running towards the dark. She slowed as shadows covered her skin and she was left no longer visible from outside the tree line. Not long, did it take for Murder to fly down and perch on her shoulder. Silva smiled as she looked over at him, steps slower now, still exhausted and water dripping down from the corner of her lips.

" nice tu see yu ukay, where are they guing nuw? "

Silva asked, a hushed whisper as she turned to look forward, she knew this path. Though by her legs a few bergmite had started to waddle besides her, as if to just in case make sure she followed the right path to Frost Cavern. Another entrance--a separate one, away from the path and known mostly by the wildlife, not by the people.

The murkrow on her shoulder snorted and squawked. Something on the matter of those devices they had set up detecting dark types and that they're all over the place, not just in the Route 17. That...made her feel less good, amber gaze beginning to traverse the area, looking out for them. That didn't really explain why they started beeping so much when she was near them, but she could get an answer to that later. Later when she was away from all of them.

" su...ugh... "

Silva grumbled, hands moving to rest on the back of her neck as she looked up at the tree line. She hated this! She hated having to run from the people that cared about her...Though she also hated how it felt like she was being hunted. It made a pit form in her stomach...Now, Silva traversed carefully, making sure to stick to the bergmites, her clearly not only knew the way, but knew where the devices were.

Murder continued chirping and squawking, talking about how he eavesdropped for a little longer than he ought to have, but it was enough to learn that they would be traveling to this area in about four hours...That gave her enough time to maybe nap. It also gave her time to find somewhere to hide that they wouldn't find, in case she overslept and woke up to Flare all over the place!

" gut any sputs? "

Silva asked, looking to the murkrow, then turning down to the bergmite--there were at least four now!--who all looked up at her and made little squeaking sounds. It was...relieving. A sigh of relief, she really...didn't know what she would have done if she couldn't understand them, if they didn't offer their help so often.

" ukay--! lead the way! "

Silva pointed her arm out and forward before letting out a little giggle--it was good to laugh. It was good to stay positive. After all, she wasn't going to leave home forever, not even close!

Just...for a little while.

Hello!

I think I saw a "come to me if you want recs!" post on your blog when I reblogged your Pride is not the Word I'm Looking For rec but I can't find it again and I'm not sure it exists anymore.

If it does exist, can I have stories that are about family dynamics and/or found family with a comedic tone that partially masks the potential tragedies looming in the background? Or maybe the tragedies are not masked at all- as long as I'm laughing before i cry my heart out.

I don't remember making that post, but! Found Family is a trope I like, so I combed through fics I've enjoyed to see if any fit those themes. Many of these, though, are going to be things that I think are close, but not quite. Regardless, I hope you enjoy!

Ain't No Compass, Ain't No Map by ebjameston (Batman, 51k) I'm not sure whether or not to count the Batfamily as found family, but they're certainly all adopted (officially or not) into the family. This one has the outsider!pov of a CPS agent tracking down the missing Tim Drake. Jason Todd has taken unofficial custody of Tim. The CPS agent slowly gets pulled into the family as well.

Building a home by R95irth (The Untamed, 586k) While this fic does include romance, the emphasis is on Cangse Sanren, Wei Changze, Jiang Fengmian, and Yu Ziyuan making a family with one another. This doesn't ever delve into poly among those four, but focuses instead on close, familial friendships. The children, though, definitely see all four adults as theirs. The story is complete and has an ongoing sequel that currently stands at over 700k. This fic is an investment, but well worth it.

Doing the Work by MarbleGlove (59k, Naruto) In this story, a civilian woman decides to take care of Sasuke after the massacre and to subtly teach him how to become a clan leader. She never quite takes on the role of 'mother' for Sasuke nor does she treat him like her child. They do, however, become family.

Life Happens by Cdelphiki (Batman, 176k) Tim and Damian, who are still, very much, at the hating each other stage of their relationship, end up stranded in our world. Tim swiftly steps up as Damian's caretaker, becoming both his brother and father-figure as they spend over a decade in our world together. Meanwhile, Tim also builds up a support system of mentors and friends. This fic is amazing beyond amazing with a fantastic slow-burn family.

This Must Be the Place by mugsandpugs (X-Men Evolution, 160k) Logan ends up taking care of the Brotherhood kids when he realizes they have no adults they can rely on. The Brotherhood kids are definitely all family to one another and Logan steps in as their adult. He does the work to earn their trust.

Hunting Pains by Ragga (Teen Wolf, 230k) A grieving Stiles throws himself into the past after his entire pack dies. While there, he ends up the reluctant mentor for a teenaged Kate Argent. From there, he slowly heals and builds a new pack while dealing with key threats early. This is probably closest to pure found family on this list, I think. It does contain a romance, but that is secondary to the platonic relationships among the new pack.

No Winter Lasts Forever by TomFooleryPrime (Star Trek, 303k) This story is a doozy and likely the furthest from your request. Basically, a woman who is deeply grieving and wanting to feel more alive ends up having sex with a Vulcan experiencing Pon Farr. They both, iirc, blame themselves for the encounter and see the other as their victim. Then she gets pregnant. They marry and move to a very remote location while still barely friends. The story focuses on their relationships with the community around them, their developing relationship, and the tension of being, again, on a very remote outpost with limited supplies. Very slow burn. High stakes. Much tragedy, but also much determination and hope.

reverse by blackkat (Naruto, 386k) Kurama the Kyuubi gets tossed into the past when Naruto is just a little kid and ends up taking the boy on the run. While dodging Leaf ninja who want to get Naruto back home, Kurama ends up adopting or befriending the rest of the jinchuuriki. This fic has a little romance, but the emphasis is on caretaker and sibling relationships.

Muddling Through Grey by Kizmet (Young Justice, 64k) In a world in which Superboy remained rather isolated, he gets forcibly adopted by Flash's rogues after he asks them to kill him mid-battle. The fic focuses heavily on the found family among the rogues, the parent-child relationships with Conner and Snart as well as Digger and Owen, and the friendships among the Young Justice crew and baby rogues.

From what I understand Yu Yu Hakusho was really big in the doujinshi community at the time. I was curious if you knew anything about what that community was like, or how Togashi interacted with it. I figure he must've been somewhat aware of it if he handed out his letter to fans at comiket. Thanks for posting all this great information!

Even nowadays, you'll find many Yu Yu Hakusho booths at the Comiket with merch and doujinshi. Also, good cosplayers at the cosplay area. I feel the YYH community is still huge.

But at the time of the serialization, there were many circles, people discussing the chapters in real time, and even famous manga artists like Yun Kouga drawing doujinshi under pen names. Moreover, in an era when internet was not a big deal yet, it was a great place to fans and artists come together.

I honestly don't know much about the community, as I've only visited the convention many years later and never applied for any circle. I vaguely remember that when an article about the characters from the Black Chapter Arc came out in 1993, with Togashi's comments, there was a fuss over Itsuki and Sensui. The comments about Itsuki said: "Itsuki was almost defeated by Sensui, but after that, they started going out".

At the time, the MiG-21 Special circle published this doujinshi called "WSJ - Yu Yu Secret File", with reprints of the original articles published in the Weekly Shounen Jump, and highlighting the verb tsukiai "つきあい".

It's a tricky verb, as its meaning depends on the context. It can simply mean "to accompany someone" without any form of romantic relationship, but it's mainly used when you're going out on a date with someone. The doujinshi authors mention that the intimacy level of this "going out" lies in the fact Itsuki calls Sensui by his first name, Shinobu. So the "going out" verb may have a romantic undertone.

There was also a famous Yu Yu Hakusho Chronology with dates and years created by fans, based on Itsuki and Sensui's first meeting the day before Jun Togawa first appeared on "Hit Studio". It's really interesting, I may translate it some day. Even though that performance really happened on a certain date, I bet Togashi didn't pay much attention to that level of details.

Other things like changes from the magazine version to the comic edition were also heavily discussed. An example is the "Shinobu Sensui Death Scene Uncensored Version".

I feel the yyh fans have a great eye for detail and scrutinize everything. The contents of the doujinshi have always been amazing, as well the fanfics. Sometimes, I feel like reading an official story.

However, I don't know much about Togashi interacting with the community. I was told (can't confirm because I wasn't there) that when they handed over Yoshirin de Pon! at the Cokimet in 1994, it was a restricted area. The organizers only authorized the line a few minutes before. The copies ran out in a few minutes and many couldn't get one.

Togashi and his brother also joined Kazushi Hagiwara's doujinshi circle around 1997. But, I have no idea how it was. If he talked to the fans or so. There's a photo of him with two HxH cosplayers in one of the HxH volumes, so he's probably interacted a little bit with the fans.

When asked about the Comiket in the "Yoshirin de Pon" interview, Togashi replied he's a fan of parodies, but values more those who are creating original content. He's a very reserved person, so I could be wrong, but I've the impression he didn't interact directly with the doujinshi community. But, he's definitely aware of it.

PRASASTI TARAGAL (802 S)

PERINCIAN :

1. Ukuran panjang lempeng tembaga ini 35,6 cm, lebar 14,7 cm, tebal 1,2 mm, permukaannya mulai belang- belang.

2. Tinggi huruf antara 4-5 mm, lebarnya antara 3-5 mm.

3. Bentuk huruf tampak tinggi, dipahat agak miring, jadi serupa dengan Prasasti Jurunan.

4. Cara menulis angka 4 tidak konsisten, sebagian menyerupai angka 6.

5. Pasangan huruf da juga dipahat tidak konsisten, kata seperti matanda, wdihan tidak ditulis dengan da tetapi dengan c/a/ di tempat lain kata indit ditulis dengan pasangan da.

Penulis prasasti adalah DHARMMASINTA SIWACITTA .

RIWAYAT PRASASTI :

Prasasti Taragal ini pertama kali disebut oleh Stutterheim di dalam OV, 1938, p.19. Selanjutnya Damais membaca dan menerbitkan sebagian (2 baris) yang berkenaan dengan unsur penanggalan di dalam BEFEO, 1955. H.B. Sarkar mengutip transkripsi pendek ini dan penerbitkannya di dalam buku Corpus . . . . , 1971.

Terjemahan :

1. Selamat, tahun SAKA 802 telah berjalan, bulan PHALGUNA (Februari-Maret), tanggal 3 bagian bulan gelap, TUNGLAI (hari ke-1 dari pekan siklus 6), KALIWUAN (hari ke-4 dari pekan siklus 5), hari Senen. Itulah saatnya ketika RAKARAYAN SIRIKAN meresmikan tanah sawah

2. di TARAGAL seluas 1 LAMWIT (nama ukuran luas) 2 TAMPAH (nama ukuran luas yang lebih kecil dari lamwit) serta tanah rumput, semuanya tanah di desa RUHUTAN wilayah TRAB dan tanah pekarangan di KUMAMET. Tanah sawah itu termasuk pohon padinya.

3. Luas tanah rumput, sisi utara 77 DPA (panjang rentangan antara dua tangan), sisi barat 133 dpa dan 3 HASTA (lengan), sisi selatan 106 dpa, sisi timur 133 dpa

4. dan 3 hasta, jumlah kelilingnya 450 dpa dan 2 hasta. Penduduk desa RUHUTAN meminta agar tanah sawah dan tanah rumput supaya dibeli

5. dan diberikan emas 1 KATI (nama ukuran berat) dan 1 SUWARNA. Maksudnya, sawah ini dijadikan SIMA (perdikan) bagi bangunan suci RAKARAYAN di GUNUNG HYANG di daerah
