SOUL CONTROL
After last season’s journey to the moon, av vattev comes back down to earth with Soul Control, the London-based label’s co-ed SS22 collection. Rather than dream of a brighter future ahead, av vattev seeks to manifest that future in the here and now, offering a uniform fit for the long, euphoric nights that lie close on the horizon.
The designer’s perennial points of reference - heroes of the 70s rock heyday like Mick Jagger, David Bowie and Grace Jones -- make themselves known in the lightly camp, cocksure swagger the collection exudes. This spirit is tempered by a bold 90s flair evident in the deep cuts and sensuous fits of this season’s womenswear -- the label’s first full wardrobe offering in the category -- with tie-together faux leather bras, U-cut silk gazar hoodies and foldover wrap skirts conveying the no-holds-barred sexiness of Lil’ Kim and Mary J. Blige.
