IDW unveils two new Sonic the Hedgehog one-shot issues, 900th Adventure and Endless Summer
Take a look at these new Sonic the Hedgehog one-shot issues from IDW Publishing, scheduled for a summer release.
900th Adventure
This issue, tentatively scheduled for 16 August, will feature various writers and illustrators as the blue blur goes on his "900th world-saving adventure!"
Sonic and his friends are playing a game of hot potato! Only the potato is the Warp Topaz and it could warp the whole world into oblivion. The gang is passing off the Warp Topaz in a relay race to get rid of it once and for all.
"Wave goodbye to the office and say hello to the beach," read the official solicitation. This issue is scheduled for a 30 August tentative release.
Sonic drags Jewel on a well-deserved beach day to spend time with her besties, Tangle and Whisper! But when they all settle in for some rest and relaxation…they realize the Babylon Rogues had the same idea… at the same beach. The only way to settle this is with a totally tubular beach showdown!

upscaled the scan of the gorgeous Uekawa art from the encyclopedia to make it look as digital as possible because I couldn't find it anywhere still and I need it on my blog!
look at that strong, beautiful, perfect captivating side profile! he's so handsome 🥰💘💜💕
Time for some sonic related art, more recent since it’s my current interest.
Last year I decided to try to replicate Yuji Uekawa’s art style from the Sonic Adventure games using my sona, and then did the same for two of my friends sonas as well. Really enjoyed it as I really like the art style from the adventure games :)
Still find it funny how the CLOSEST I've gotten to imitating Uekawa's style (with some changes from my side) was when I drew a HUMAN from a series with 0 relation to the Sonic franchise (oh yeah also repost ^_^)
Have you seen fans attempts at Yuchi Uekawa’s shading on Sonic mods? What do you think of it?
What's wild to me is you see it in screenshots and it looks really good, but you think, sort of like with cel shading sometimes, that in motion it might look really strange. Like maybe they cherry-picked these screenshots where it looks the best, right?
But no, you see it in motion, and it still looks really good!

There's a bit of weirdness with the way the thick outlines are rendered -- this seems to basically use an extension of the Jet Set Radio technique of rendering the model twice, but with one copy being slightly bigger and solid black to form the outline. So around corners, like the inside of where his fingers meet his hand, where his arms connect to his body, etc. That sometimes looks a bit odd. But never terrible.
It's really rather striking, otherwise. Ever since Dario's Sonic Generations Cel Shading mod, I've wondered how a full-on cel shaded Sonic would go. Especially in the face of something like Sonic Runners also putting outlines around characters to increase visibility.
I think I would play a cel-shaded Sonic game if a moderate amount of effort was put in to making it look nice. I mean even just these mods look really nice, you know?
Bare minimum, I think sort of like how Insomniac had tons of alternate Spider-man costumes for their game, including a comicbook-style Spider-man, Sega could and should add something like this to Sonic Frontiers officially.
