FFXIV Write 2022
#2: Bolt
verb: to make a sudden, swift dash, run, flight or escape; spring away suddenly.
Tumblr media
Takes place after the events of 5.3; Cid is in Revenant’s Toll grabbing supplies from the House of Splendors when he sees something that he was not prepared for.
It had been weeks since Cid Garlond stepped foot in Revenant’s Toll, where not only the main workshop of Garlond Ironworks was located, but also where he called home, as his apartment sat just above the workshop overlooking the aetheryte plaza and marketplace below.
The white bearded Garlean would’ve likely been stuck in Rhalgr’s Reach if not for an order of equipment of the utmost importance and fragility that was ready to be picked up from The House of Splendors, and Rowena was not wont to let heavy boxes full of steel sit in her storehouse for long. Biggs had initially volunteered to pick up the equipment, but Cid insisted on going himself, as he needed the change of scenery.
Though his crew did not protest, he was no fool. He had seen the looks on all their faces. They knew that returning to the main workshop, and more importantly, his apartment, would be difficult for him. It has only been a couple of months since it happened after all, since Yume left him for another man who Cid always saw as a friend. Being a single man again was hard to believe, but yet, he had to face the harsh reality of his situation. And he couldn’t avoid his own home forever. Cid knew that he might even run into his ex-fiancée, as the Scions’ headquarters were right across from the workshop after all. Yet, he wasn’t going to be a coward. He needed to move on with his life, and so, to Revenant’s Toll he came.
Everything had gone smoothly so far, the hustle and bustle of the marketplace was a welcome sight. The fresh smell of baked goods from the oven filled the air, the sky was a spectacle of vibrant pinks and purples, and it felt so good to be back home with a sense of normalcy once more.
Though his serenity was shattered with an all too familiar sound dancing in his ear. A faint, melodic, feminine giggle…
No, it can’t be. He was just imagining it. It was his mind playing tricks on him again. Surely it wasn’t really her.
The Garlean gasped when he heard it again. He turned towards the sound, seemingly coming from around a corner, on the far side of the marketplace, hidden from the crowds. Though his mind tried to tell him to ignore it, to focus on the task at hand and do his job to pick up the supplies in peace, his curiosity won out in the end. He had to know if it really was her.
As he rounded the corner, Cid stopped dead in his tracks, his heart crushed into pieces.
Right there stood his ex-fiancée, the raven haired Raen woman who he once thought would be the one he would have children and grow old with, Yume Aino, pushed up against the stone facade by the man who she had left him for, G’raha Tia. His hands were running down the curves of her hips while hers were grabbing his long, vibrant red hair as the miqo’te kissed her neck, exactly where she always loved to be teased. Yume giggled as her lover continued to kiss her neck, and Cid’s head began to spin.
Electricity shot through his body as he felt the sudden urge to flee. He couldn’t fight it, as much as his logical mind told him that he still had a job to do. It could wait till later. Cid could only back away from the lovers, bolt through the aetheryte plaza and into the workshop, slamming the doors behind him.

❝  are we okay?  ❞
“Are we okay?”
Tumblr media
Wiping away the sleep from her eyes, Yume sat upright in the bed she had been recovering in since the Battle at Ghimlyt Dark. Her now opened eyes turned towards the vase of flowers sitting on the windowsill. They were a mix of blue, purple, and white blooms that Yume could not recognize, though she knew who they were from, as the unopened card sitting just a few ilms from the vase had her name scribbled with penmanship that could only belong to her fiancé. Her heart sunk, as she knew that there would be another argument coming.
The last time she saw him was not too long before the battle had started, and after she mentioned that she and Alisaie had heard the mysterious voice again, Cid scolded her for being distracted before battle. Though he explained that he was just worried for her, Yume angrily told him not to tell her how to prepare for battle, and she walked away before he could answer her. Thinking back on that memory, Yume began steeling herself before she saw him. Not a moment later, footfalls came closer to the room that were quite recognizable.
Yume took a deep breath and when she turned towards the door, Cid appeared in the doorway. He looked disheveled, as his beard appeared to not have been trimmed in quite some time, and his silver eyes were tinted red, either from irritation or from rubbing them dry after shedding tears. Yume had hoped it wasn’t for the latter reason, but it was much more likely.
Before the Raen could utter a word, Cid smiled and hastily walked over to her bedside. “Yume! You’re finally awake!”
Cid pulled her into a gentle hug for a brief moment before sitting in the chair next to the bed.
“Cid…”
There was a moment of silence before Cid spoke.
“I was beside myself with worry when Lucia told me that you had collapsed on the battlefield just like the others, in front of the ascian in the crown prince’s body no less. But soon after I arrived here in Ishgard, Ser Aymeric informed me that you had awoken but still needed your rest.”
“Yes… that’s what happened.”
There was a stillness in the air as Yume knew that both of them were avoiding the elephant in the room, and her non-responses were not doing anything to put Cid at ease. Part of her wanted to reach out to comfort him, but the other half was ready to push him away so that she could be alone once more. Instead, Yume decided to sit still and wait for the questions that were coming.
“So… care to tell me the rest?” asked Cid.
Yume looked down at the bedsheets, but her mind’s eye was recalling what she had experienced. With a delicate voice that shook with a hint of unease, she finally said it aloud.
“Him… I saw him.”
“Oh did you now?” Cid said, voice dripping with venom.
“Yes. He was standing right in front of me, I only needed to reach out to touch him. Yet, I know not of how it could’ve happened.”
Yume looked over to Cid, who was glaring at her with arms folded across his chest, but was intently listening.
“Go on.”
Sighing, she continued, “I heard his voice once more, and I fell to the ground. When I awoke, I was in a place I did not recognize, a space that felt in between… a liminal space. Then he called to me… his voice rang so clear in my horns. And when I looked over, he was standing there, wearing fanciful robes of black, red, and white, and he wore a hood, his face shrouded in darkness.”
“How certain are you that it really was him? It could’ve been an ascian trick for all we know!”
“No Cid, I would know Raha anywhere. His voice is very distinct, and even though it seemed like he was trying to hide himself from me, his face was just as I remembered. Besides, it seems out of character for an ascian to be adamant about warning me of a coming calamity, don’t you think?”
Cid closed his eyes momentarily and snickered after she spoke the miqo’te man’s name.
Yume had fully expected that response from Cid though, as her now fiancé never seemed to accept that she called the miqo’te by only his given name, especially when she explained that he had wanted her to use it.
“You just said that he had a hood covering his face, how could you see it was him?”
Yume narrowed her eyes at Cid, and she returned his gesture, folding her arms across her chest.
“I couldn’t see his whole face, but I recognized his jawline and his lips.”
“His lips?!”
Yume scowled back at Cid. “Yes! He has fairly distinct facial features.”
“Heh, I see…”
“Are you going to let me finish?!”
“Sorry, keep going.”
“To put it simply, he told me that the better path leads to him, and that he will leave a beacon at the base of the Crystal Tower for me to use to go to the First. Why he is wanting me to go to a whole other world and what he has to do with all of this, I don’t know. That’s all he said to me.”
Cid looked off into the distance, as if his mind was millions of mulms away. “Hmph.”
A fire was lit in the Raen’s chest and Yume’s temper flared. “Is that all you have to say?!”
“What else is there for me to say? I know you are going to the Crystal Tower like he told you to do.”
Yume took a deep breath before she spoke once more, so that she wouldn’t raise her voice even higher than it was already. “Yes… I need to know where everyone’s souls were taken to before something terrible happens to them. I need to know more about this calamity he spoke of. I need—“
“You need to find him is what you really mean.”
Yume’s eyes widened and her mouth fell open. Cid’s accusation shook her to her core, as if an arrow was shot straight into her heart. Her hands began to shake as she grasped the bedsheets tighter. “I just can’t have a normal conversation with you can I? I’m genuinely concerned about our friends, and what this calamity really is, and of course I’m curious about Raha’s part in all of this. Why wouldn’t I be? He’s our friend too! I’m not going to entertain your jealousy anymore!”
“Yume, I—“
“No, you don’t want to listen to me anyway. I need to rest a bit longer before the chirurgeon clears me to leave.”
“Yume… I… I’m sorry.”
The Auri woman just turned completely away from Cid and buried her face into her pillow, trying her best not to shed tears in front of him. “Just let me rest, okay?”
“A-alright.” Cid dropped his head as he stood up and began to walk out of the room, but he stopped and turned around to ask one more question.
“Yume?”
“Yes?” She replied without turning to face him.
“Are we okay?”
“I… I don’t know.”
((Thank you so much @meepsthemiqo for this amazing prompt!!! This is one scene that I’ve been meaning to write for a while, and though it’s not perfect, it’s a start. 🥰💖))

Castaway Warriors
Familiar Faces and Familiar Voices
Tumblr media
Here’s my first entry for @meepsthemiqo’s Castaway Warriors!! Mentions of her WoL Meeps and @traveler-of-light’s WoL Astrid! If you want to catch up on the story of this group RP, please see the Masterlist HERE! Now, enjoy!!!
With an intense pain in his head and sand pressed into his face, G’raha Tia stirred awake to an intense midday sun shining in his crimson eyes.
“Ughhhhh…” G’raha painfully moaned as he realized that he was lying face first on a beach.
He shook his head and wiped the sand off his cheeks, squinting with all his might to try to focus his vision, but the sun was just too bright for him to see anything but the sand all around him.
What had happened? Why was he on a beach of all places? Wait… what was the last thing that he could recall?
Oh right… he was on a ship, and it was his first time going ocean fishing, at the encouragement of Meeps and Asahi. Then what happened?
Oh no… Yume! Where was his wife? She was clinging to him as the ship was struck by gods-know-what, and then they both flew overboard, crashing into the sea.
In a panic, G’raha sat upright and scanned the horizon, no ship in sight. Nothing was in the water at all, and certainly not a white haired Raen woman. The miqo’te man frantically began calling her name. “YUME!! Yume, where are you? Yume!!”
Suddenly, a voice called out to him quite unexpectedly, especially since the tone was deep, rough, and masculine, “Oh, you’re awake finally. Good.”
G’raha turn towards the sound of the man’s voice, and it took a few seconds for his eyes to adjust. The shock of white hair made his heart stop a moment, as his first instinct was that it was Yume standing there, but upon his vision becoming clearer as his eyes adjusted to the blinding light of the sun, it was the last person that he had expected to see.
“CID?!? What are you doing here? Where’s Yume?”
“I was on the ship, same as you. Astrid and I saw you both, but elected not to bother you. I suppose Astrid suggested as much for my sake, but now…” Cid sighed as he sat down next to G’raha in the sand, his silver eyes narrowed while gritting his teeth. “Now I‘ve lost her. And when I was able to get to shore, I saw a body lying there… yours. I saw no one else. Not Astrid, and not Yume either.”
G’raha’s eyes widened with fear. Not only was his wife missing, but Astrid as well. “What about Meeps and Asahi? Any sign of them?”
After Cid shook his head, G’raha frantically waved his arms and cried out, “No… we must find them! I know that Yume, Astrid, and Meeps have the kojin’s blessing, so they couldn’t drown at least, but still they are all in danger!”
“Calm down now, we need to find food and shelter. We can’t be any help to them if we are not safe ourselves,” Cid replied as he turns away from the panicked redheaded miqo’te and starts to walk down the shoreline. “Come with me, there’s some trees in this direction. Best bet for food I suppose.”
With a shake of his head, G’raha was able to stand up, though wobbly on his feet, and start to follow Cid. All he could think of was his friends and his wife, nowhere to be found. He silently prayed to himself, please let them all be safe somehow. And I will find you, Yume. I promise.
~**~
Deep beneath the waves, Yume was going in and out of consciousness, curled into fetal position with her head buried into her knees, as an all too familiar voice called out to her, though in the moment she could not place who the voice belonged to…
Wake up…. Wake up… It is not your time yet…
The Raen opened her eyes to find that she was underwater, far beneath the surface. Yume looked around and saw no one else, nothing in sight except water and the light of the sun calling to her high above.
“Wh-where am I? Who’s there?”
The voice echoed in her mind once more.
Get to the surface before the last of your strength leaves you…
Not sure why, but Yume was compelled to nod in response and slowly swim towards the surface.

Look at the sky when you are alone and smile knowing that someone else in another part of the world is doing the same and looking at you. The sky always shares the most beautiful tales. You are the star in someone’s sky... ✨
((This takes place before the Calamity, when Cid first gets to Eorzea and Yume is still Kugane immediately following her banishment from her father’s lands.))
