after the world has fallen (where do we lie?) & before the world fell (you were there.)

this was my favorite fic for a While and i think a big reason for that was it was one of the bigger projects i had gotten the ambition to complete. to be honest i'm still trying to think of ways to come back to this apocalypse universe even in my kpop phase but nothing seems to hit quite the same as the old hq boys did 😔 it was my first real experience making a cohesive story thread and my first time really immersing myself in the world i'd created. i learned so much from writing these two fics. i think if i could go back i would definitely write it differently (i've grown a lot as a writer after all :") ) but there are just so many scenes/prose in the fic that i still look back fondly on.

an elegy of clouds

my first and last completed series :") it's funny because this is one of my first fics i'd ever thought up of in my drafts in 2020 and yet it was the final fic i would go on to publish at the end of the star-puff lifespan... time really is a circle! i could go on and on about the origins of this fic but i think it was just. a fic series that was really important to me. funnily enough i don't find myself going back to reread this fic as often as i do my next fic on the list, but i think i'd rather keep the memory of creating this fic precious in the sepia rather than unearthing it to newfound criticism. don't get me wrong there are still things i wished i could have fleshed out more of/improved on but a lot of blood sweat and tears went into completing this series and she is just . very special to me ...

scintilla

my favorite fic ever even till this day :") i was talking to my old mutual about this the other day but i think all of my writing on star-puff led up to this fic (my final form). i'm not quite sure what possessed me in a june summer to write this but i literally spilled it all out in less than two weeks which is frankly still recordbreaking for me to this day. it was my first time really delving into purple(?) prose and metaphors and i STILL to this day keep the essence of what i learned from writing scintilla into my new fics. she really is my magnum opus. or at least one of them. and also i think the fact that it was received so well especially during a time when i wanted to deactivate so bad is also. a big bonus jsdflsf.

svt, after it all ends (vocal | hhu | performance)

ok this isn't a fic it's like a headcanon set buuutttt. idk i found myself really liking these short bursts of instances that i could encapsulate and expand on using a single metaphor (it's the scintilla influence). personally the hhu version is my favorite like maybe it's cause i know them the best or because the metaphors i chose were my favorite or just the prose in general but idk! something about it just. hurts me the best.

gravity (is the distance between you and me.)

my real and true magnum opus ...... she's up there in the leagues with scintilla definitely! i'd even say that she is scintilla's child. scintilla walked so gravity could run (heaving and spitting out blood). there's not much i can really say about this one other than like. idk she is just really really special and personal to me. she went through 3 different idols for her muse and eventually settled on her final form with sunwoo from tbz but idkkk more than that it's like. the yn in this fic is so personal to me she's self-sabotaging and guilt-ridden and selfless in all the wrong ways to the point of selfishness and despite all that she is still just. loves so strongly and deeply it ends up pulling them together again ... Gravity . it has one of my favorite sections ever written (even if it was like drying a wet dog for a good few weeks) and it's just so. personal!!

announcement !

i've been drafting this post in my head for months tbh but i'm just gonna start it off & get straight to the point: i'm leaving tumblr!

well, i (meg, of tumblr user star-puff acclaim) am leaving tumblr, more specifically, haikyuu fic tumblr. this probably does not come as a surprise to a lot of you considering my past activity over the past few months (or lack thereof), but like i said before i'd been thinking about leaving tumblr ever since june of last year. the original plan was to leave at the end of summer 2021 because i'd Assumed i would have finished at least One of my series by then but . but well :") turns out it was more difficult than i thought to meet that deadline :"")

why i'm leaving:

there were a lot of reasons why i wanted to leave back then, and i won't really get into it in This post; i feel like what i felt back then was a common sentiment in the community and digging into that can of worms unwarranted is a bit . yknow, lmao. but if someone is still curious i'll still answer, because to a certain degree what i felt back then is a reason of why i'm leaving Now. the real reason i'm actually leaving though is because i've just lost all motivation for writing haikyuu fic. call it the loss of hyperfixation or me just becoming too busy to write and be online like i used to, or just me being tired of it all, but at some point writing for this blog started to feel less of an outlet and more like an obligation or a chore. it didn't really help that a good chunk of my friends & mutuals on this corner of hqblr had already left and my interaction as a whole was just looking a little ... 🤕, and it didn't really show signs of getting any better with all my time offline either. i'm saying this as objectively as possible, but i feel like there just isn't really a place for me here anymore, at least a place that anyone would really care to visit or stay at anymore, so i'm just going to cut my losses and not overstay my welcome more than i already have :) /gen

what about strawberry marmalade?

i really am sorry for those who were looking forward to seeing me finish strawmarm, but the way things are looking ... </3 i'll probably be uploading all of my long fics over to my ao3 and see if i ever come back to writing and finishing strawmarm, because i really Did have it all planned out,,, but well . you know where we are now :") long story short, strawmarm is discontinued unless i miraculously get hyperfixated on haikyuu and that embarrassingly stupid strawberry man again

i'll be leaving this blog up as an archive! i honestly thought about deleting it but after thinking it over i think i'd end up missing and regretting it if i did, so i'm leaving it up for the memories (i'm sentimental and sappy like that ... cringe ik :/). i'll probably leave another post before i leave giving the same links in an easier to read format without all this ... okay so number 1 on this list has to go to @amjustagirl my queen of imagery literally all her metaphors are SO well thought out im in awe everytime i read something of hers 🥺 if i had even a smidge of her talent i promise you i'd be looking for a career in creative writing by now

a very close number 2 would be my beloved @ufo-ikawa i havent read her recent fics but i can tell you now without hesitation that if you have the time & capacity to be flooded with emotions (unlike me </3) i would recommend them to you with my whole heart (for lovers who hesitate, commas of care, this summer i..., the world starts and ends with you!)

spot number 3 goes to the one and only @sakusins who had me reading fics for characters i didnt even know like no joke shes insane she singlehandedly got me to watch & read tr and she's the only person i'd ever read hanma & gyutaro from

number 4 is none other than @heich0e i got pulled in by her haikyuu fics but i learned she's also crazy good at writing aot and has an aot longfic in the works so i read the few snippets of it that she posts and suddenly im at s3 in just 5 days🧎🏻‍♀️

fifth is shared by @sourstars bc if nikki jie was brilliant at weaving imagery throughout her multichapter fics, pandora is incredible at jampacking her metaphors into shorter pieces without losing any of the emotional impact

and also @chimielie bc i love the way lia writes reader and how lovesick the boys always are and she has such a unique writing style that i do not have the vocabulary to describe but i would bet that if you let me read one of her fics without showing me her url i would probably be able to tell it's her

and because i am literally incapable of shutting up here are other writers whose masterlists i havent gotten the chance to go through but you can bet your life savings ill be spamming them with rbs if i survive the semester

@eightonenine's osamu and omi pieces have my heart in a vice grip but i also would read tsukki and hirugami just for her

@sunkeiji sayu has stopped writing but as long as she doesnt suddenly delete her writing blog impulsively i WILL go through the rest of her works bc theyre always so sweet :(

@shinunaki has me reading for characters ive never even simped for before (kagami, goshiki,, aran,,,,and i have a feeling shion soon teehee) and now im at least a litol bit in love with them after reading just one fic from him

@augustinewrites she writes such a wide variety of fics and every single one of them is so cute and unique and appeals to my tiny lil heart one day ill sit down and read her entire masterlist in one go dont even try me

@kentoangel roma's fics are always so full of love it is impossible to read her pieces and not be buzzing with serotonin in my veins by the end of it

@nakizumie cant wait to read her older works bc ive only read her newer ones and i just know all her stuff is gonna be so good i can feel it in my bones

@aominology has these really long bulleted fics and other long fics that ive been dying to read bc her drabbles are already have me clutching at my heart

@kairakeiji bc she is a master at switching povs so subtly and the boys are pining SO hard it makes me yearn but also reader loves them just as much which makes it so sweet :(

@duino is another underrated longfic writer she includes so many subtle details that all add up to just fill my whole being with happiness and love by the end of it

@luvbub you know how when reading hcs you might just skip to your faves and ignore those you dont simp for? yeah that's impossible when it's bub's hcs i literally cannot resist i end up reading every single character

@yurens bc she weaves words together so beautifully and her works are on the longer side too so i have to save them for when i can appreciate them properly (my beloved yurens if you dont want to be tagged pls let me know sobs)

so i used to run (with @forgetou) a fic rec blog @msybookclub and it has quite a lot of angst fic recs! i also answered this q a few times hrm (i tag it under hq x reader on my blog, stupid of me i know) but some of my favourites:

works by miyachondria on ao3 - dearly beloved killed me and if you're asking for historical aus, patches of light is the definitive piece for me.

works by @myelocin - is it ridiculous that i love nic's work this much? yes. but am i ashamed about it? unabashedly not. top angst picks for me wld be the redefining me series, the faded side of the photograph and grids in the sky.

works by @yurens - historical au? deep spring. works that killed my heart? goldfish and lamplight. but every piece by yuren is a masterpiece, and i admire her brain and talent so so much. i'm such a fangirl and am forever grateful that she is my friend <3

works by @tsukishumai - i am chomping at the bit for cam to finish writing the next installment of the love galore series featuring bo, kuroo and akaashi in university! it's a ball of fun, and loads of angst, so it'll be right up your alley. and anything that cam writes, really please give it a try!

works by @star-puff - meg's work is...how should i describe it? soft prose like cottony clouds on a summer's day, with an emotional depth that leaves me gasping for more. my personal favs are scintilla and nexilis but every word is a treat.

works by @voxamcris - chock full of beauty, help. her historical aus! hidden featuring a swordsman! kita shinsuke has my whole heart but seriously. im lucky to have read any of yuki's works. it's a privilege, a blessing - it makes me in awe of her sheer talent.

hello hello! 

so i’m going to put most of this under the cut, because it’ll be Long, but the tl;dr is: i’m taking a short break (probably a week, maybe a little longer) from the blog, and in the mean time ren (@w-yuren) will be babysitting it for me. by babysitting i mean that she’ll be posting fics if i happen to write or finish any during my time off, and she’ll let me know about any asks or other important things (basically she’s keeping me accessible). so if you have something you want to ask me or something you want to say, you can! 

i’ll still be writing during my time off, and also i’ll be checking my main intermitted for commissions & whatnot. 

if you need to contact me, please message my main, @rowann, or through my discord. i’m not disappearing and i’ll still be contactable.

basically i just don’t want to suddenly disappear and make people go ??? because i know i overthink and get worried very easily, so!

also, thank you to everyone who’s been so lovely to me. whether that’s your nice comments and tags, your asks, or whatever, i really, truly appreciate it, and it does more for me than you could ever know. it may only be a couple of minutes out of your day, and you might not think much of it, but it really does make my heart go !!!!! 

you do NOT have to read between the cut, it is just word vomit (and it could be upsetting for some people), but! everything i’ve said above is what’s importing. 

okay so i’m putting this under the cut because it’s not important but i do want to explain myself. 

so basically i’ve been in a very Weird headspace (i’m not going to go into it bc it’s a bit personal and i don’t want to say anything that potentially puts anyone else in That mindset), and tumblr’s been,,, less than great for it, i’ll be honest. 

but, i didn’t just want to drop off the face of the earth or abandon the blog or anything like that. knowing me, i’d likely slip into that space of Not Writing for Six Months and honestly? i think i’ve got a pretty good thing going here. 

which is largely why i’m letting ren babysit for a while so kuroopaisen doesn’t just fade into that good night. 

i will be writing while i’m away, but i’ve been having a Lot of insecurities about it and i think i need some time to just,,, be alone with it, if that makes sense? like i’ll still be posting it, but the less time i’m on the platform the better i’ll feel about it, i’m sure. 

basically, i’ve been stuck in this loop of “oh, you want to publish in the future, but you’re not even good enough to write ship-fic; you’re just writing x reader fic and therefore your skills will never improve past what you can already do.” which is very strange for me, because i don’t believe that one is better than the other in it’s essence; but my brain works against me a lot of the time, and there are plenty of things i berate myself for despite not even believing the sentiment behind them. 

so, that’s a big reason about why i need to be alone with my writing, i think; i need to remember why i enjoy it, and why i never used to care about the fact that i wasn’t writing the Distinguished Ship Fic. i want to remember why i like to write, and not be so caught up in what i’m doing or not doing or the purported value of what i’m doing. 

i know x reader fic gets made fun of, but i like the freedom and flexibility in it. and, i like not having the pressure of not only accounting for characterisation, but pre-established relationships that also have longstanding fandom preferences behind them. and yet, i’m still getting insecure over all that. 

also for me personally, the talk of ratios and silent readers has really been getting to my head. it’s been making me feel like my ratio isn’t Good Enough and therefore that’s a reflection of my ability (again, something i don’t believe at all -- i think the number of notes doesn’t measure the quality of a piece of work, nor do i believe my followers are obligated to engage with my work in any way past reading what interests them when they want to). 

but again, even though i don’t believe it, it’s been making my brain go brr. and honestly, i see a lot of the bitterness that surrounds the issue of ‘silent readers’ and ratios and all that, and i’m very Sensitive TM, so seeing all that talk always puts me in a weird headspace. 

i guess i just kind of get left in this space of wondering how i’m supposed to feel about my own writing and how i’m supposed to think about the process and i don’t like being in that weird, doubtful space when it comes to how i approach writing. i don’t like asking myself ‘what are you doing this for?’ because i usually know. 

and that’s on me! i know my limits, and i know when i need to remove myself from situations. so, that’s what i’m doing, just for a little bit. and i know that i shouldn’t be so effected by other people, but unfortunately i am. i’m working on it, but we all trip sometimes. 

there’s just,,, a lot going on in my brain, and i know it’s my responsibility to do what’s best for me. so, i’m just trying this out to see if it helps me recentre myself and feel a little better.

@violetsoju - lin just broke my heart with her iwaizumi constellation piece, but she's got a lot of cute, fluffy pieces that make my heart shriek (northern lights feat. omi is a fav).

@myelocin - look i'm screamed abt nic's work enough, she's amazing, her work is poetry, and i'm just honoured she blesses us with her presence. redefining me, on the faded side of the photograph, grids in the sky - all favs.

@yurens - do yourself a favour and read through all her (sfw) fics please - yuren is just...talented, writing those soft quiet moments that are either so fluffy they make me wanna die or softly angsty that my heart aches for days afterwards.

@tsukishumai - i'm really really loving cam's recent bokuto fic series love galore so i'd defo rec her work!!!!! plus she's such a lovely human being <3

@luvnami - bb ai is a minor herself HAHA so you'd be v welcome there, AND her fics are so soft and sweet (her ushijima childhood fics!!!) so def go look her up!

@ryuiki - ryu is also a minor, but so so talented!!! i wish i were as talented when i was that age!!! too many fics to choose from, pls go explore and have fun!

@serotorin - rin jie has lovely fluffy fics that are so cute (her kuroo / froyo reader meet cute was sugary sweet 😉) and her blog is so beautiful and aesthetic HELP i have a girl crush.
