Fic-to-Art #25: A decade-long journey with Sokka and Azula
Yep. I can't believe it's been a full decade either, but here we are. Ten years later and it feels like it was yesterday, almost.
On this month on Patreon, I figured I'd just make a larger sort of tribute to my long journey as a fic writer. I've had ups and downs, big moments and small, but ultimately, that I've had the chance to be here for as many years as I have is certainly a privilege, and one I don't take for granted.
I've met lots of great people because of my participation in this fandom, particularly in the Sokkla community. I've honestly made some of the best friends I've ever known through the past ten years. I've graduated from university, I've grown in many ways as a person, artist and writer, something that kid right out of high school would have never imagined possible when she first set out on this journey with zero clue of how far it would take her, and how important this would be for her in the years to follow.
After all this time, it feels like the red string of fate from The Reason has woven itself through all my stories afterwards, resulting in a very curious relationship between all these stories and the one that started it all. I mean, technically it was OoPB that started everything X'D but The Reason is by far the flagship of that particular setting. I haven't even revisited those stories in forever, but I really am glad that I did it for this particular purpose.
Alright then, if you would like the specifics regarding which story is being referenced (in case you don't know), keep reading!

Gladiator Part 1, the handshake that started it all.
It Had To Be You, their unintentional first date!
Gladiator Part 2... this is honestly just a general thematic Sokkla make-out session, which as we know they were very likely to do throughout Part 2 x'D
The Love Advisor, reading a book together for the first time.
The White Lotus International Games, their rejoicing after they rushed their finals to watch each other winning at their competitions.
Matching Heartbeats... I picked the Yakuza AU as a reference to this one because people really missed it this year. But DAMN did those tattoos kick my ass to kingdom come, most difficult part of this entire mini project x'D
Underneath Starlit Skies, I picked the final scene of the Happy Family prompt because I couldn't decide on a better scene from any of the other prompts that year hahaha.
Leap of Faith, here I chose my personal favorite story from this year, Toph matchmaking Sokka and Azula, with Sokka in his councilman outfit and Azula in her ambassador attire.
Gladiator Part 3... spoilersssssss!
Alas, it was crazy to work on a project like this one on relatively short notice and pull it off regardless. I did know I wanted to do something like this, should the chance arise, and it kinda did? So I'm really glad I could finish it, maybe not exactly on time (two days late actually), but still within this month, haha.
I really hope you guys enjoy this massive piece, thank you to everyone who has been supporting me for the last decade, whether those who have been here all along, those who have only come by my work recently, as well as those who come and go. That my stories have touched anyone's lives is a miracle to me, and one I won't ever stop cherishing.

Horimiya quickly becomes an “omake” after a plot driven story to bring character together in the Horimiya friend group we know and love today. It’s one of the biggest reason people don’t rate Horimiya highly. They feel “dumbing it down” to a pure slice of slice took away the original intent of the story. I get it. I do. While I actually enjoy the omake aspect of it since it actually develops the character’s relationships with each other, here’s a list of hidden sides we get to see for each characters that actually show up in later chapters and was never part of the “central plot”:
Iura: Quiet and nonchalant in front of his sister Makoto because his loud personality drove her away. In an attempt to bond with her, he adopted a new personality that wasn’t too overbearing for her at home. Eventually, it became a part of himself. (Shown in the anime, but didn’t give a reason why)
Yanagi: A shoujo fanatic at home and also extremely grumpy in the mornings. Although the manga doesn’t expand on it, we can tell Yanagi is really scary when he’s angry. He also admires Kouno the most out of all his friends (and it’s mutual).
Kouno Sakura: shown as inherently capable and feminine. She actually started to learn baking in an attempt to feel more feminine. It was likely because Remi’s reputation took a toll on her. (Note I’m NOT saying any of this is Remi’s fault, actually far from it)
Hori: Even though Hori is popular, another part of her hidden side is that she can’t do traditionally feminine things other high schoolers at her age pride themselves on, including baking. This really is something she thinks is lacking in herself. When Hori admits her insecurities to her, Kouno’s perspective of Hori changes from the unreachable popular girl to a girl trapped in the same social standards.

Souta (aged-up): cool on the exterior but actually a very caring and family-oriented person at home
Yuuna (aged-up): An air of maturity, but embarrassed easily around the people she’s grown up with (Souta). A little self conscious about her forehead. Really, she turned out like Hori and Souta turned out like Miyamura with his violent tendencies. It’s obvious they both looked up to Hori and Miyamura and started to mirror them, so they’re dynamic is really similar.

Chapter 04
I was just about to head down the stairs when I heard the door. Since no one else was around, I turned on my heels and hurried to open it. Once again, the cold wintery air swooshed on my face.
"Hey, Sis!" Yuuto stepped in, holding Nalia's hand. He reached his arm and ruffled my hair, making me shake my head.
"Don't mess my hair, Yuuto!" I giggled and hugged Nalia which wasn't as easy as it had used to be. Her belly had really been growing. And it looked so beautiful. The sight filled me with happiness. Soon, their pups would be here and...
I swallowed. Who would have thought that things would be like this? Ruki and I hadn't actually planned it... but... Well, it was mostly because I had been so scattered with everything and then just failed to remember. Oh, well...
"How have you two been?" I tilted my head and forced the whirl of my thoughts to stop for now. "Or should I say four?"
"The twins are giving me a hard time, kicking my kidneys in a new order... but everything is fine. Just wait, you'll get to this point, too." Nalia couldn't hide a giggle, her eyes sparkling, but suddenly, she glanced behind me. "Oh, hello Ruki!"
Letting go of Nalia, I turned around. There was the man I had been looking all over the manor! Where on earth had he been? I would question him later about this!
"Welcome, Nalia, Yuuto." Ruki stepped right next to me, smooching my cheek briefly. "It's a pleasure to see you again."
"Nice to see you too, Ruki." Yuuto flashed a grin. Ah, I was so happy that he and Ruki got along better than in the early days. When we had told him and Nalia the news, I had been sure he would have burned Ruki there and then. But it was all good now.
"Please, come in." Ruki gestured toward the living room. "I believe Kou and Kazemi have already finished with the decorations."
"Umh..." I nodded, hoping that was the case. "Yes, you should see the tree. It looks extraordinarily pretty!"
"So does your dress, Yuriko." Nalia touched my upper arm with a smile on her face. "The color suits you well."
My cheeks tickled with heat. "Really? I do love blue~"
"You and your brother." Nalia laughed, taking Yuuto's arm. "Come on, Slowpoke. I need to sit down."
It was almost adorable how Yuuto flinched and his face sank for a second before he was able to collect himself. "Oh! Damn right. This way, milady!"
I was about to follow the couple but just then someone knocked on the door again.
