“Shinya and heavy alcohol shouldn’t mix,” Kotobuki replied between bites. “Or so I’ve heard.”

“You heard right,” Kei said. He felt Kaito’s eyes on him, making him raise a brow at him in question.

Kaito grinned. “Can I kiss you?”

Kei narrowed his eyes. “Absolutely not.”

Kou dropped his spoon. “Did you two break up?”

Kei kicked Kou under the table. “No. But Kai’s food is spicy and I don’t like spicy food.”

“I don’t get it.”

“Kei doesn’t like kissing him when Kai eats spicy food because he can’t handle it.”

Kei looked miffed.

“Come on, it’s not even very spicy.” But there was a hint of teasing in his voice.

“Liar. I saw how much extra hot sauce you added into your food,” Kei narrowed his eyes at the bottle of hot sauce standing innocently by Kaito’s food. It was almost gone by this point. Kaito liked this particular food super spicy too, constantly adding more to it.

Kei valued his taste buds.

Kaito pretended to pout and looked down at his food. But a glint in his eye (that Kei was able to see, because he knows his boyfriend) stopped him from feeling sorry for himself. “Then, I’m sure Takeshi will—”

Kotobuki never once looked up from his food, “Keep me and my innocent lips out of this.”

The blond couldn’t help but laugh, but then his eyes landed on Kou who froze. Kaito stood up, slowly walking around the table. “Then, maybe Kou will want—”

Shinya and Yuusuke chose that time to come out of the kitchen with drinks made only to see Kei jump up from his chair, run around the table to intercept Kaito, and kiss him, both of them standing behind Kou’s chair, the latter of who couldn’t help but watch. Kaito barely had a chance to react before Kei’s tongue slipped inside. They all saw how Kaito melted into the kiss at Kei’s mercy.

“Yeah! Get it, Kei!” Shinya cheered, waving his drink around, some of it spilling over.

Rewatched the first episode of Tokyo Ghoul, which I haven’t seen since before Ajin...

Some similarities:

-HIDE AND KAI. That’s pretty undeniable... He and Kaneki look so similar to Kai and Kei, and they’re childhood friends, and someone asks Hide why he bothers, after Kaneki refuses to see him at the hospital.

-The scene when Hide brings food to Kaneki’s apartment, it’s not very long, but the dialogue is practically word-for-word the same as the Shinya/Yuusuke OVA.

-Kaneki also seems pretty studious, though we see him reading, rather than studying.

Some differences:

-From the first scene we meet Kaneki, he’s showing interest in a girl/dating.

-There’s a greater than zero amount of nudity in the episode.

-We see right away how it’s possible for someone (at least for Kaneki) to become a ghoul. I think how/when/if people become ajin is one of the bigger mysteries in Ajin.

-In a single episode of Tokyo Ghoul, we’ve already seen SIX ghouls. I can’t remember what episode in Ajin, but I’m pretty sure it’s at least two full episodes before we meet any other ajin at all (that we know about at the time). They seem to be much rarer.

-Ghouls are actively dangerous. They HAVE to eat people. Ajin can just mind their own business.

It’s been three months but I finally updated my ajin/kaikei college au fic!

Shinya pinched Yuusuke’s side, eliciting a wince from him. “We might have to hold off on museums for a while.” Shinya put his head back down on the other’s chest. “How about the movies?”

A dark brow quirked. “Remember what happened last time we went to the movies, with Kai and Kei?”

“Oh... Yeah.” The Movie Theater Incident. “Never mind then.”

“We could go to the park? Take a walk around the city?”

“We did that back in the spring and I got chased by all the big dogs in the park.”

“They just wanted you to pet them.”

“They chased me for three blocks.”

“They just wanted to play.”

“All I saw was seven hundred pounds of fluff running towards me.”

“They did bury you under that fluff.”

“No parks.”

“How about we go hiking?”

A frown graced Shinya’s features. “Last year when we went hiking that baby snake found its way into my backpack and came home with us.”

“Animal control told us it was harmless when they came to get it.”

“I saw my life flash before my eyes when I pulled that snake out of my backpack.” “Even the neighbors heard you scream.”

“You’re not helping.” Shinya tried snuggling more into Yuusuke and pouted when he couldn’t. Yuusuke accommodated him by moving the blanket from where it rested on their waists and put it over his chest instead. For Shinya, in his current position, it was almost covering his face. He preferred being buried under the covers like this. “I’m starting to think I’m cursed.”

“You’re not cursed. It could be me, since it happens whenever we go out.”

“This has been happening all my life.”

“Babe, you’re not cursed.”

“Remember when we tried laser tag?”

“That person was fine.”

“I gave them a black eye.”

“It was an accident.”

“Cursed.”

I'm hoping there were reasons for what happened with Yuusuke and Shinya's ghost but also Kai's injury. I hope they aren't just plot holes. "Demi demi humans..." maybe.

bro after reading those chapters i was just like

i dont understand how some ghosty wisps arose from yuusuke and mimicked what he said or how kei’s ghost/flood could have healed kai’s wound but not started his heart again......i really hope we get an explanation 

maybe it’ll be similar to how those humans in tg:re had ROS and secreted an abnormal amount of RC cells despite not being ghouls??

so like, ajin-adjacent humans?? lol? sounds like something similar to wolverine, there’s some regenerative abilities there but not enough to make them immortal
