Hello, I saw this post of yukina and want to know why do you think that yukina is a character made of wasted potential?

I think I wrote about this at length on my other blog, but basically Yukina gets very little screentime and is never given a character arc of her own, and that's a shame considering all she has to offer.

She has an incredibly interesting backstory in her own right that gives her unique motivations and goals. She's been through hell and back at the hands of horrible people. She hails from a unique society with unusual customs that are challenged by her new experiences. These are just some of the hallmarks of a character with potential for juicy growth.

And yet most of the time, the narrative treats her as a girl for Kuwabara to rescue, and then for Hiei to rescue, and then for Kuwabara to pine after, and lastly as a device to highlight Hiei's self-loathing.

Think about everything the narrative COULD explore: She could have PTSD from years of torment by Tarukane, hangups over gender thanks to the Koorime, and the need to unlearn years of Koorime propaganda driven by her desire to fit in with outsiders despite all she's been taught to fear (not to mention the internal biases she'd have to fight against thanks to her personal experiences that validated what the Koorime told her about outsiders in the first place). Perhaps she'd want to learn to fight to defend herself after all she's been through, and don't get me STARTED on what else the narrative could be doing about her relationship with Hiei...

All of that and more is just sitting there, waiting to be explored. But the narrative just ignores it and just makes her a mildly cheerful cheerleader most of the time.

Only once do we get a peek at what really lies inside her head (during the scene with Hiei toward the end of the series), but it's brief, and it's mostly there for Hiei's characterization, not hers.

The most interesting things about Yukina, for me, are the things canon never bothered to tell us about.

Wasted potential, man. Wasted potential.

Random Thoughts: Hiei

I feel like contrary to popular belief Hiei would fall in love with a human. Someone who'd make him realize there is much more to strength to someone than just physical. Compassion and love are strengths as well. Sometimes rarer and more important. Someone whose determination can't be broken or stopped as easily, it's the sheer will that fascinates Hiei.

I feel like it would kinda be like how Sesshomaru and Rin met/came to be together. How it would take one kind-hearted human to help him when he's hurt just because they felt it was the right thing to do even knowing he could kill them with ease. Someone who refuses to be pushed or left behind. Someone who he could both be curious about without worrying about scaring them off. They could find the balance between human and demon and what works for them, with no rush.

This soft-hearted manner while he might feel slightly foolish, reminds him of his sister Yukina. Which of course, made him much more protective of you (and softer) on every and any occasion. ❤️🙂
