Z-O-M-B-I-E-S Role-Swap

—

A kinda dorky, half-zombie Zed is raised as a human, and has the perfect life in Seabrook. He’s trying out for the Football team his Freshman year, but is overwhelmed by his fathers great fullback legacy. He also has to hide his green hair, or no one would ever let him play thinking him a brain-eating monster. He has to fit in; his whole life depends on it.

Addizon was raised in Zombietown, with her z-corp janitor father, half-alien mother, and adoptive sister Zoey. They don’t have much, but that won’t stop Addy from making her first day at human high-school the best one ever, and to try out for a real Cheer Team. To bad her cousin Bucky and best friend Bree aren’t quite so optimistic.

When these two meet, it’s an explosion of chemistry. Both are determined to make their Freshman year the best they can, but to also…possibly…to make a someday for themselves.

Dorky athlete meets his chaotic zombie soulmate? YES PLEASE!

I got my role-swap designs finished! Yeah, so, I didn’t want Addy and Zed to just switch places. That’s boring. No, they are the same characters as canon, but in different environments. What would Zed be if he had to extinguish his fire to fit into a world he doesn’t belong? What could Addison do if her energy and heritage was unrestrained from a young age?

I tried to keep their palettes the same, and keep each character super recognizable despite being in the wrong places.

[Apparently now, there's a part 2 to this since this person didn't understand this post.]

You know what, I disliked how Addison's character was written throughout the three movies. By the very end of the first movie, the town accepted her having white hair and being different because of the white hair and accepted the zombies along with that.

Then erased all that (as they did with Bucky's character development) and continued on with "Addison being alone and needing to find her place".

Everybody loved her still with white hair and all when the second movie came around, there was no one bullying her for having white hair. So why did they still have that "oh maybe I'm a werewolf" plot? The second movie could have been just the wolves getting help and finding their Moonstone, but adding Addison being their possible Alpha was stupid. Especially when they made it seem like Addison had to be their true Alpha when Willa was already a great leader. Addison being their Alpha would have been terrible simply because she only cared about fitting in (WHEN SHE ALREADY WAS ACCEPTED) while Willa truly cared for her people. So I was glad she didn't turn out to be the Alpha. She treated being a werewolf was like putting on a new coat.

Which why the third movie making Addison 1/4 alien (not half, no) was completely unnecessary and if anything more insulting to the concept of her being a werewolf, and the werewolves and zombies fighting for their RIGHTFUL place in Seabrook.

By the end of the second movie, Addison was accepted into the wolves' pack while still being beloved by everyone else. SO WHY DID SHE STILL NEED TO BE PART ALIEN?!

That plotline felt out of place to me even with rewatching the movie. Addison didn't seem to feel like she needed a place to fit in. She was more so about the cheer competition and winning it which felt like fresh air to me. The whole "her grandmother being an alien" felt exactly like Mal's father being Hades in Descendants 3. It happened out of no where! Oh, what the aliens couldn't just have the coordinates in the trophy? No, Addison still had to be "unique" that her being so was the reason the aliens found a new home. Why did the solution of them finding a new home had to be connected to Addison?! Addison had to be that important while her boyfriend still worried about getting into college and making the way for other monsters? Why?! What's worse? Addison got to be part of a more "ADVANCED" race. The aliens had a clean appearance, better technology and were smarter. While the wolves lived in the woods, had a dingy more color palette and animalistic. Along with the zombies living in more damaged homes, also had a dingy color palette and apparently was dumber as they hinted in the third movie (lunch room scene). Are you seeing what I'm seeing?

Throughout the three movies, Addison still needed a place to fit in while the movies' message overall was about accepting people for who they are no matter how different. IF IN THE FIRST MOVIE, ADDISON WAS ACCEPTED FOR HAVING WHITE HAIR, WHY THE HECK DID THEY STILL DRAG THAT OUT?!

Keep in mind that even when Seabrook accepted the zombies and later werewolves, they still had to face issues with being accepted while being more monstrous compared to the humans and now the aliens. Addison only had to pull off that wig and BOOM, within hours she was accepted. The zombies and werewolves still had to face discrimination, being casted out and losing what's theirs. While the aliens now, after the whole invasion part, easily impressed the humans. Remember when the zombies and wolves attended school in the first and second movies? Everybody was scared of them. Aliens though? Impressed by them. The same race that Addison apparently was apart of.

Addison being insecure is valid, alright. We all have felt insecure. It's how they written that is what got to me. They played with racist undertones there, let's just put it out there.

And before anyone goes "it's just a kid's movie", I'm going to stop you there.

Yes, the franchise is aimed at kids but that's what makes it a problem. Stop thinking kids are dumb and narrow minded. Kids are open minded and learn what they see. My little sister watched the second movie just like me and asked me why Addison wanted to be a werewolf so bad when everyone liked her. She asked me why Addison was sad still about being different. A KID NOW. They pick up on things faster than you realize.

learning that Milo Manheim is Jewish gives Z-O-M-B-I-E-S, Zed, and especially his role in Z2 a different and important light

to elaborate:

Jews have been hated for 3000+ years, and by hated I mean the likes of Assyria, Babylon, Persia, the caliphates, the crusades, Rome, and Ottoman took over Israel + Judah and outright forced Jews to convert/assimilate or either die or live as oppressed (criminalized) denizens; then when the Jews had to spread out elsewhere from northern Africa to Europe and even the Americas, the domineering (mostly white/colonial/imperial) culture forces them as well as other Indigenous people to the same difficult choice: assimilate or die

in the present, we have a very objectifying attitude towards Jews and to the same extent many Indigenous and mixed-race people: the cultures they keep alive don't mean anything to us when they either look white or act white (I want to call this cultural bleaching for some reason) or if they're visible, we keep them out of our sight anyway

so how does this relate to Z-O-M-B-I-E-S and Zed running for president?

one thing I didn't like through the entire run of the Z-O-M-B-I-E-S franchise is that the zombies just look like sickly white people, even black actors, and for Z2 the white paint is a huge contrast to the werewolves and humans whose actors get to keep their skin tone

much more subtle is that even within the human society alone, Seabrook shows quite a bit of racism with how Bree and the coach, both fat Black humans, are depicted as seeing themselves in a negative light and needing to be pulled up by the more confident non-Black people like Addison and Zed, who are both outed as not entirely human either

Zed's human skin tone and zombie skin tone only really differ when Zed's Z-band gets messed up, and there are two ways this happens in the first movie: first when he tries desperately to fit in, and second when the Aceys force him and his friends out

so I guess in Z2, Zed's already pretty scarred by being outed that when he snatches the chance to represent himself and his kind in politics and then meets new people, his instinct is to make them assimilate for fear of oppression

so the conflict of trying to fit in vs just being yourself, in Zed's side of the story, matters anew with all that context in mind

I'm not saying that Disney's Z-O-M-B-I-E-S failed in its anti-racism message, otherwise I wouldn't have made the effort to watch the three movies in one day (Zed's internalized racism issues have mellowed out come Z3 but they haven't exactly faded) but it's good to talk about all of this while we're still in living in a society that wants to erase many kinds of people and cultures from this earth by either ending life outright or forcing them to assimilate in fear

Z-O-M-B-I-E-S Dating Wyatt Headcanons

* Wyatt is nervous at first introducing you to the pack. He thinks you’re amazing and believes they should too, but he knows how overprotective Willa can be and is worried she might be too aggressive.

* With some time though, she warms up to you as her brother’s partner and will tell you embarrassing stories about him from when he was just a wolf pup.

* Wyatt, of course, is protective too. He will not hesitate to defend you at all, whether it be physically or just standing up for you when someone else is rude.

* However this protectiveness sometimes may end up turning into jealousy if someone else gets too close to you. He won’t be mean, necessarily, but he’ll get the message across that you’re taken.

* Wyatt is willing to do pretty much any activity with you. Going to the movies, froyo date, just relaxing at home, really anything is fun for him if it’s with you.

* Cuddling > anything else

* He enjoys it when you brush his hair, but he’s bashful about it and will hardly ask you to

* If there’s something that he really wants that for whatever reason you’re against, he’ll use big puppy dog eyes on you to try and convince you

* You enjoy listening to his howls, and he’s even taught you a bit of wolf language

* He likes doing simple chivalrous things for you, like holding doors open and pulling out chairs. Small actions to express his love.

* He’s actually surprisingly sentimental, keeping even the smallest little gifts that you give him like a pretty rock you found or a drawing on a sticky note.

* You’ll eventually stumble upon a pile of these things hidden in a corner of his den.

Z-O-M-B-I-E-S 1 & 2 are so amazing. IMO 2 is better because, well, ~werewolves~, but 1 gave us Someday and Bucky jumping through a poster of his own face to reveal a second, larger poster of his own face so it's a close call.

Then again, 2 has "Zombies!" "And werewolves!" "In formal wear?!!?" 🤌🏻

Amazing first two movies. Hoping they don't drop the ball on the third 🙈 I love how some people were like "Zombies and Werewolves are fine, but Aliens are too far!" 🤣 I'm keen for things to get even weirder in Seabrook personally
