I do hate dain but his character is so fascinating I refuse to believe he was acting the entire time

He's a grade 3 ol, they're flawed in that they resemble humans too closely! It couldnt all have been an act! He wouldve developed a personality when staying in one form for so long! He mustve developed genuine home grown emotions somewhere in there! I'm always asking myself if he's being genuine or acting like a poor little meow meow to win them over

He grinned again, and this time the smile had a touch of teasing malice. 'So! You managed to run away just in time to save yourself, Barda the Bear!' he crowed. 'Cleverly done! Your fellows were all killed defending the palace, but not you! You must be very proud of yourself.'

Lief glanced quickly at Barda and saw that his face had tightened with pain.

The little man opened his eyes wide. 'Why, of course, Barda!' he said smoothly. 'I quite understand your position - even if your young friend does not. These are hard times, and we cannot all be heroes. Why, I myself am the world's greatest coward!' They reached the entrance to the larger cavern and he stood back, gesturing gracefully for them to enter. 'Mind you, I do not pretend to be anything else,' he added, as Barda passed him.

Never really appreciated til now how horrible this was to say... I'm sure jinks knew and lost a lot of people in the massacre even tho the majority of the acrobats likely wouldve escaped... sure he wouldve felt resentment towards barda for not telling them about his suspicions and potentially saving some people after finding out he was alive... but wtf dude

Hearing that gloriously familiar, irritable growl, Lief dropped the dagger with a cry of joy and flung his arms around Barda's shoulders.

'Steady,' said the big man uncomfortably. But he did not pull away.

'When I saw you at the cave entrance, I could not believe it!' Jasmine had bounced over to Barda and was embracing him in her turn. 'How did this happen?'

So I was listening to the mythcreants podcast episode on parents recently and they were taking about how stories usually push adults out of the picture so the kids can independently face challenges, but you should really consider keeping them bc a bit of parent can really help the story/characters

And I ask you why would you take parental figures out of your stories when you can have moments like this 💖

If I think about this for more than five seconds I start to go crazy. Apart from the fact theyre inside a blowhole about to blow. Barda pushing the kids forward. Jasmine cant swim. Liefs just holding on to her. They're inside a blowhole for gods sake. The water levels rising. Bardas fully prepared to put himself at risk pushing them out before him. I need to go now.

His voice sounded odd. Lief glanced at him quickly. Barda was looking at the wall in front of him. Carefully he raised his hand and slowly traced shapes in the gleaming stone.

A bony arm. Five fingers. A skull, its mouth gaping in a silent scream.

'Here is one who stopped to rest, and stopped too long,' Barda said. He twisted his neck and looked over his shoulder. Milky drops ran slowly, ceaselessly down the wall at his back. Already they were pooling on his shoulders, setting into a fine crust of stone.

Love that jasmines new fit isnt treated as a makeover at all and lief doesnt think wow she looks nicer like this. Its not his moment where he realises hes attracted to her. Hes literally like wow that's jasmine I had no idea 😍 shes so cool and smart 🥰
