Not only is there a military full of dragon riders, there is disability rep, and the most healthy queer relationship I could have asked for. They also take care of a baby dragon together while saving the world!! It’s one of my favorite books I’ve ever read

I have read 4 books in January:

1. "The Pale Horse" by Agatha Christie

2. "City of Ghosts" by Victoria Schwab

3. "Teeth" by Zaya Feli

4. "Claws" by Zaya Feli

Coincidentally most of them have been on my TBR for some time (and funnily enough, all seem to have almost monochromatic covers 😅)

I also started "Babel" by R. F. Kuang and "I'm Glad My Mom Died" by Jeanette McCurdy.

All in all, pretty good reading month for me.

Do you like soft boys, slow burn romance, awesome world building, an intricate plot and

dragons?

I expected to like this book, since I liked all of Zaya Feli’s other books, but I did not expect how quickly and deeply it would suck me in! Two pages in and I already would die for Tauran and Kalai. The way their relationship builds is so great, because you can see not only how much they care for each other, but also how much they admire and respect each other. Don’t you crave some good romance where a couple learns to face outside conflicts while making each other stronger? This is it!

Also, the dragons? I was never much of a dragon person, not that I hate them or anything, but I didn’t really get the Eragon hype, you know? So I didn’t expect how I would love the dragons in this book so much! As soon as Leyra was born I was all like “if anything happens to her I will kill everyone and then myself”. Each dragon has a personality and they feel like real characters you can’t help but care about. It’s amazing!

The book is pretty long and there’s a lot going on, but at no point it feels confusing or info-dumpy, and the side characters are also great.

I highly recommend you give this a try if you like the books I usually post about, or fantasy LGBT+ literature in general!

I suffered through book 1.  I nearly died at the end of book 2.  Regardless of what people told me, I was terrified for this book.  But I was wrong.  Some pain but also some absolutely lovely moments.

I never wanted to hurt anyone. I wanted to carve. I wanted to create, not destroy. All I do is hurt and kill and ruin, until this thing – this curse – ruins me.” He sighed deeply. “There couldn't possibly be a god inside me. I'm nowhere near powerful enough for that.”

i already sent an ask to @zayafeli screeching about iron breakers but uhh it’s time for more praise i guess? bc i cry over roanna sylver’s chameleon moon & isaac marion’s warm bodies but i guess i have a third fave series now?

basically it’s very fantasy and also very gay which is 10/10 the best combination of things. it was AMAZING and i can’t believe it took me so long to fucking read it. 

it’s very in-your-face gay without being one of those stories that tries too hard y’know? by which i mean while it’s very central to the story, since the two main characters get together in the end, it isn’t a story about being gay nor is it like, a big deal in the story or the worldbuilding. it’s just a thing thats accepted and i love that??? also (spoilers!) my fave character gets married in the epilogue!! so i’m very pleased!!

the writing style is pretty easy on the eyes, not too flowery or over the top bc i find that can make something difficult to read. but the simplicity doesn’t take away from the story either bc it’s just?? so easy and lovely to read?? and the plot isn’t too overly complicated either but it still has some gr9 plot twists etc etc im love!~

also the book itself has like, a little map at the beginning. it’s a super cute detail that i LOVE and i wish more books did that. seriously, it’s great. there’s also a list of characters so if you’re like me and feel the need to keep track of every minor character, it’s perfect
