Weet dat ik nooit echt zelf post hier, maar aangezien ik deze zomer in zeeuwsvlaanderen ga werken heb ik besloten af en toe wat leuke feitjes te delen die ik over dorpjes leer hier. Beginnend met t dorp biervliet. Bekend om maar 1 ding, en je zou denken a jah om bier. Nee. Een man uit biervliet heeft ooit uitgevogeld hoe je haring moet pekelen, en de rest van t dorp dacht ah ja das genoeg naamsbekendheid joe

In Zeeuws-Vlaanderen hebben we Roompot Vakantiepark Zeebad bezocht. Het bijzondere aan dit park is dat de opbouw van het park gebouwd is in de stijl van het oude Fort Imperial. Tijdens de Franse tijd, aan het begin van de 19e eeuw, werd de Republiek voorbereid op een Britse invasie. Om deze af te kunnen weren werd een soort Franse Atlantikwall aangelegd bestaande uit versterkingen. Fort Imperial was zo’n versterking. Van deze plek werd de toegang tot de Westerschelde en Zeeuws-Vlaanderen extra verdedigd. Na het vertrek van de Fransen werd het fort Willem I hernoemd. Hi n 1859 is het fort tenslotte afgebroken en na het ophogen van de dijken zijn ook de laatste resten niet meer zichtbaar. ————- At Breskens the French build Fort Imperial in the early 19th century. It was part of a line of defences ment to prevent a British Invasion during the French rule in The Netherlands. After the French left the fort was renamed Fort Willem I. In 1859 the fort had become absolete and was demolished. T zeeuwsvlaanderen feitje van vandaag: t mooie dorp "boerenhol" hoorde eigenlijk "boerenmolen" te heten. t schijnt dat de mensen die om de naam kwamen vragen t zeeuwse accent niet goed verstonden. Also er staat geen molen (meer) in boerenhol. Tevens is er ook nog iets (bij terneuzen) genaamd boerengat.

In de Tachtigjarige oorlog tegen Spanje werd er een lange strijd gestreden in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. Langs de vestingsteden, van Oostende (nu België) tot Bergen op Zoom, werden diverse stellingen aangelegd door beide partijen. Ook de prachtige vestingsteden Sluis en Hulst maakten deel uit van de verdedigingslinie. Nabij vestingstad Aardenburg is een van de stellingen gereconstrueerd. De bordeelschans is een typische stelling uit deze Staats-Spaanse linies. ——- During the War of Independence against the Spanish fierce battles were fought near Flanders. From Ostend to Bergen op Zoom a strong defence was build. Near Aardenburg this stronghold is reconstructed. It gives an image of how these 16th and early 17th defences looked like.
