i don’t think it’s a matter of blizzard not knowing what it’s appealing to their character, but more about everyone having wildly different expectations about everything. personally, on top of my mind, the only very ugh thing about the blizzard lore drop for me was the hana retcon, because it cancelled what little lore she used to have. otherwise, i love every single character they added into the game (lore-wise)

I find it difficult to follow other zenyatta blogs on here just because their protrayal of zenyatta can get so different to my own it’s kind of dizzying (not to say they’re wrong, mind you).

although the difference between those who have lore and those who don’t can be a little staggering - because a lot of the time, characters you don’t connect with can seem a little cookie-cutter until they get a whole bunch of extra characterization when chu bothers to write it.

that is probably what causes the vast differences in opinoun - you’re free to add whatever you want to the character to feel more connected to them. there’s no lore to tell you otherwise.

but hey, i can’t even keep up with lore anymore, so what do I know.
