Really interesting finds!
On my walk to the bus stop today I came across some stuff that the neighbors had put to the side of the road. The metal shelf/rack is what really caught my eye before anything else did; if you can’t tell it’s a very dark green with leaves all over it.
The white stand was the second thing to catch sense I’ve been looking for a drying stand for clothes so the dryer doesn’t degrade the designs of my tshirts or wear out the elastic bands in my boxers. It might need some really light repairs like paint touch up but I’ll have to really stop back by and look. I literally did a drive by look as I was walking and only stopped for the few seconds it takes for my camera to focus the best it can on it.
The poor lady in the car… I think I scared her or made her nervous by taking a picture. I didn’t even notice she was there until we locked eyes 😅.

Zero waste
Mai if you’re like me and you’re thinking of ways to be zero waste, but you aren’t really sure where to start, it’s all good! I’m learning to and I’ve come up with some ideas of how to do this without breaking the bank or throwing things away before it’s time! So if you’re like me and you love to read and you have a tablet or iPad or iPhone, I believe Samsung also has this option but I don’t have Samsung so I’m not sure (let me know if you do) but books on them! There should be an app called “books” on your apple device and it is what it looks like, a book store! Or you could borrow books from your local library, or buy them used from thrift stores market place or a used book store, that way you can still get your books while cutting down on waste!
Next! Instead of plastic single use water bottles, get a reusable one (prices can vary on these) you can get them used as well, or if you buy them new it’s a one time purchase (with hopefully no plastics) I use mine all the time and I love it!
Also bathrooms! Did you know deodorant can come in a cardboard container? If not now you do!! Zero waste and you don’t have to skip the deodorant, especially if you work in a hot building, and toothbrushes there are bamboo biodegradable toothbrushes that are soo much better for the environment!! And safety razors, I love mine (bambaw not sponsored) buy the blades and you’re set! You’ll never have to spend $15 on new razor blades again, the pack I got of enough to last at least two years, was like $5 !
And bamboo hair brush, it’s a great option and again biodegradable! And toothpaste and mouthwash tablets!! They come in little glass jars and there’s so little waste involved with all these all you have to do is just bite them and brush like normal or bite them and sip some water and swish like normal!!
Now ladies this one is for you, period underwear, menstrual cups/discs, or reusable pads! All of these are great options and don’t use any plastic and no chemicals like formaldehyde!!
Also a great and easy switch is instead of using plastic silverware just use regular silverware! I know you’re thinking “what about washing it how is that zero waste?!” Dishwashing soap but it’s bar soap (yes that is a thing) and instead of a sponge use bamboo scrub brushes! And lastly (for now) instead of paper towels use old shirts or towels or wash cloths that are reusable and washable.
I know I made this long, and I still have more ideas, but for now I’ll leave you with these ideas and if you’re interested in asking questions or learning more please feel free to contact me

Guys, it's Earth Day today. And exactly this day last year I trying leading a 'Zero Waste Lifestyle'. And while it was totally impossible for me to cut down all the waste, my goal was to reduce the amount of waste I produce.
Tbh, it is quite challenging to lead a zero waste lifestyle in an economy which goes against the grain of sustainability and eco friendliness. A thing I noticed was that the 'Zero Waste Movement' put all the responsibility on the shoulders of the consumer to look for zero waste items when half of the products available off the shelf aren't exactly zero waste. That includes shampoos, creams, toothpastes, food items etc. Quite often I had to go around searching for a zero waste alternative because it wasn't easily available.
And that I think is a major shortcoming of the movement. While I understand it comes from a good intention, just expecting consumers to do the hard work isn't going to tackle the waste problem.
According to what I learned in industrial design, we need companies to adopt more eco friendly manufacturing techniques and better waste management. Because what waste is generated by consumers is nothing compared to the industrial waste generated both during manufacturing and after the product is thrown into the landfills at the end of it's life cycle. One solution I learnt was in dismantling the traditional 'take-make-grave' method and replacing it with 'cradle-to-cradle' method which is inspired by natural environment.
That being said, I don't want to completely discredit the 'Zero Waste Movement'. While I do believe the solution in reduction of waste lies in changing industrial practices, not consumer behaviour, I did learn of a few easy simple practices that brought a significant difference in my waste. And I think many people can easily incorporate these practices in their daily lives as well :
Carrying a tote bag instead of using plastic bags
Carrying a metal water bottle with me when I went out. I could easily fill my bottle with water from any water fountain or cooler, and this also saved me money from buying bottled water or drinks.
If you regularly buy coffee from a coffee shop, you can also try buying a metal travel mug. Most coffee shops will make your coffee in the mug and it will keep the coffee warm for longer while also preventing spills.
Stopping the use of disposable items and instead buying high quality long lasting items.
Buying vegetables fresh from the vendor instead of buying packed ones at the supermarket.
Buying loose grains whenever possible
Walking to places instead of using a car
Replacing all the lights with LED.
Switching off lights, fans when not in use
I also stopped buying tea bags. Instead I bought a metal tea infuser. It fits over the lip of the cup. I can pour loose tea leaves inside it, then fill the cup with water and let the tea brew.
That is all I can think of. And I think these are easy practices we all can incorporate into our lives which an make a significant difference from our end
Happy Earth Day 🌎♻️🌿

Simple Tips
Store fruit and veggies whole. This will allow them to keep longer, as their surface degrades faster when it has been cut and exposed to air – makes sense, right?
Handle your fruit and veggies gently, as bruises and cuts will lead to rotting which can also spread to other veggies stored nearby.
10 Rapidfire Veggie Storage Tips
#1 Leafy Greens
Lettuce, spinach, rocket, kale and chard can be stored in a sealed container or reusable produce bag in the fridge after being washed and spun to promote hydration.
#2 Tomatoes, Chilli & Capsicums
Fresh tomatoes, chillies and capsicums should be stored on the bench at room temperature until ripe. To preserve for longer, just pop them in the fridge.
#3 Garlic, Onions & Potatoes
Store in a cool dark place and they will keep well for up to a few months. Hint: don’t store potatoes with onions and garlic, as they release gases that may quicken decay.
#4 Pumpkins or Squash
Whole pumpkins can be stored for months in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Sliced pumpkin should be stored in the fridge with the seeds removed, as these decay faster than the flesh.
#5 Cucumbers, Zucchini, Eggplant & Fennel
These immature fruits have thin skin that is sensitive to bruising and cuts, so handle carefully. Store them dry in the fridge in an unsealed reusable bag to allow for airflow.
#6 Carrots, Celeriac & Parsnip
Storing them in a reusable bag in the fridge with their tops removed will allow them to last for over a week (or longer).
#7 Beetroot, Turnips & Radish
Remove the leaves as soon as you get home to preserve the moisture within the roots (keep the leaves for compost or to feed your chickens or worm farm). Store the roots in a reusable produce bag in the fridge.
#8 Cabbages, Broccoli & Cauliflower
As broccoli and cauliflower are the unopened flower buds of a plant, they are best consumed within 3 to 4 days, before they begin to open and turn yellow. Store them in a crisper in the fridge in a reusable bag. Cabbages, however, will last for weeks.
#9 Celery & Soft Herbs
Celery and soft herbs such as parsley, chives and basil can be stored in a jar of water on the kitchen bench at moderate room temperature. Otherwise, in hotter months they can be washed and wrapped in a damp tea towel in the fridge.
#10 Dry Herbs
Dry herbs such as rosemary, thyme and oregano can be stored on the kitchen bench. The flavour becomes more potent as the herb dries, allowing them to keep for a long time. Once fully dry, seal in a container to sprinkle over your food later.

There have been so many garage sales this year going on. In the cities, in the rural communities. Every few blocks I’d bare witness to another retina-destroying pink or surface-of-the-sun yellow with handwriting with them big words, GARAGE SALE! :) , FRI-SUN xx/xx date @ (location)”.
My bf and I have drove past some in the rural area he lives in and some of them just seem like they’re getting rid normal house stuff. The city and rural suburban people division is wild in what you will find. A lot of the clothes in either setting won’t fit me or aren’t my style and I celebrate whenever something does.
I look forward to the next garage sale season bc this time I might be able to finally go to some. I’m not sure what else I’d be looking for besides shirts and boots that aren’t worn to the heels. A new plant might be nice if anyone is giving any away. I know I have to have some “normie” clothes that I can use for work (if they’re a durable work brand meant to take a beating) or when I go out to exist and the weather permits me to live without burning me to death. I fight my gremlin demons off with a branch every time I see a nice trinket or doodad at a flea market and I usually win. Those alpaca fiber socks that I bought off some sellers who were from an alpaca farm in Georgia are an exception, I just know I’ll need them one winter. I hope the season in 2024 will yield me many (USEFUL) finds! :D
