Trying to Explain How the Gods Feel to Me
Inspired by @khthonioi and their post. They’re really sweet so check them out!
Hermes: The excitement of getting a letter from a real person, winning a coin toss, suddenly breaking into a sprint, helping a friend up after they’ve fallen, getting on a train and not knowing where you’ll get off, speaking in a foreign language for the first time, having someone you love stay over at your house, cool evening air after a hot day, jumping a fence, winning a game of go fish as a child, visiting a bustling market, getting doubles with dice, successfully passing a soccer ball
Ares: Doing what needs to be done, finding old scars, persevering no matter what, the feeling that comes after a workout, overcoming a fear, bandaging up a wound, the buzz of a protest, feeling the blood of all that have come before you running through your veins, holding an old pocket knife, wearing a leather jacket, the smell of dragons blood, lighting a match only to blow it out, the satisfaction of cracking ice, pressing on a bruise and finding it no longer hurts
Artemis: Slipping into worn boots, balancing on a log with no fear of falling, dancing alone in your room, late night walks, running your hands through a dogs fur, severing the stem of a flower with a knife, the lightness after cutting off a lot of hair, twirling in a flowy skirt or dress, being able to see at night thanks to the moon, the drive to keep going, the gurgling of a stream, making eye contact with a wild animal and feeling a connection, cooking on a campfire
Zeus: The rumble of thunder in your chest, seeing justice be carried out, knowing this is where you’re meant to be, watching lightning hit the earth, realizing you can change the outcome, entering a dark oak forest, watching a bird soar against the wind, doing what other deemed impossible, a warm hand on your shoulder, smelling petrichor in the air, finding proof of something you knew to be true, seeing the trees bend but not break to the wind, feeling all the hair on your body stand up, the heaviness in the air before a storm

— to you, o king of power & might, to you, o lord father zeus, do i sing. i give  worship to the strength of you, the power that rings and echoes within my very bones. o lord  of the heavens, lord of the earth, lord of all that dwells  within, to you i sing. illuminate the dark where my feet tread, your strike of lightning to chase away  the foes before me. out of chaos, o mighty king, lead  me forward. guide me in righteous ways, bring holiness to my words, & lend me your strength. o blessed king! ruler of all the gods!— king of glory & brightness! it is to you that i sing —

As it rains here, I feel Father Zeus’ love washing over me. At first I felt a chill, so I changed into warmer clothes, but now sitting here and listening to the thunder, I feel so warm. Like every drop of rain is singing hymns to the King of the Gods. Praise you, kind-hearted one, protector of the home, the foreigner, stormy one!

Low-spoon offerings
I left Zeus, Apollo and Hermes each a gold dollar on my altar! Thinking about offering the Theoi whatever spare change I find on my daily journey into my iron offering dish, and maybe buy them something when the dish is totally full? I'm not sure.

I redid the altar once again! Thanks to @fireandfennel I’m trying a new method of rotating the altar space so it’s one deity at a time in hopes that it’ll become 1) more accessible for me to engage in worship 2) less overwhelming for me. And it’s going great already. It’s been easier for me to manage and I don’t have the pressure of ‘if I give one deity something I have to give something to everyone or I’ll feel bad’.
On the altar I have some candles (mostly there for symbolic purposes as I’m super clumsy and always seem to knock into candles), a bottle of water, some oil, some wine, incense powder, and some essential oils. There’s also a plate for me to put offerings on, a knife to cut things with, some fake flowers (that get switched out with each deity, yellow is for Zeus)
And, since I’m working on a weekly rotation, and this week is Zeus’ turn. And today I gave him some of the roast and pie that I made! I don’t give huge offerings very often as it’s not feasible for me to do, so it’s nice when I’m able to do this. And He seems to really like everything!

⚡🌩️ Journeying with Zeus ⚡🌩️
✨✨ Calling all seekers of strength, leadership, and transformation! Today, let us embark on an awe-inspiring journey to connect with the majestic energy of Zeus, the king of the gods in Greek mythology. Zeus, the ruler of thunder and lightning, holds within him immense power, wisdom, and the ability to bring about profound change. Let us explore the depths of Zeus's influence, honor his might, and harness his transformative energy. ⚡👑🌟
Tumblr media
💫✨ Who is Zeus? ✨💫
In Greek mythology, Zeus stands tall as the king of Olympus, the god of the sky, thunder, and lightning. As the divine ruler, he embodies leadership, justice, and the wielding of great power. Zeus's thunderbolt symbolizes his authority and ability to bring forth both destruction and renewal.
⚡🌩️ Invoking Zeus: A Ritual of Power ⚡🌩️
1️⃣ Sacred Space: Find a serene and open space where you can connect with Zeus's energy. Create an altar adorned with symbols of thunder and lightning, such as feathers, crystals, or representations of eagles, which are sacred to Zeus. Arrange your space with reverence and intention. 🪶
2️⃣ Invocation: Light a candle that represents the fiery power of Zeus. Close your eyes, take deep breaths, and visualize the crackling energy of thunder surrounding you. Recite an invocation that resonates with your spirit, summoning Zeus's presence into your sacred space. 🔥
3️⃣ Offering of Strength: Select an offering that symbolizes strength and leadership. It could be a symbol of your personal achievements, a written affirmation of your own power, or an item that represents your journey of transformation. Place the offering on your altar as a token of your dedication to growth and empowerment. 🏆
4️⃣ Meditative Connection: Sit in stillness, grounding yourself with each breath. Envision Zeus's electric energy coursing through your veins, awakening the power within you. Feel the thunderous strength and the wisdom of leadership welling up inside you. Allow Zeus's energy to inspire and guide your transformation. 🌩
5️⃣ Prayer and Intention: Speak your heartfelt prayers and intentions to Zeus. Express your desire for personal growth, leadership, and the ability to effect positive change. Open yourself to receiving Zeus's guidance and embrace the responsibility that comes with wielding power. Embrace your potential to make a difference. 💪
6️⃣ Gratitude and Farewell: Offer gratitude to Zeus for his presence and blessings. Acknowledge his guidance and the transformative energy he has ignited within you. Offer a final prayer or affirmation of gratitude, knowing that Zeus's strength and wisdom remain within you. Blow out the candle, symbolizing the end of the ritual, but carrying Zeus's power within you. 🦅
⚡👑 Embracing Zeus's Lessons: Weaving Power into Everyday Life 👑⚡
1️⃣ Leadership: Embody the qualities of a true leader. Take responsibility for your actions, inspire others through your words and deeds, and advocate for justice and fairness in all aspects of your life. Lead with integrity and compassion, allowing Zeus's wisdom to guide your path. 👑
2️⃣ Personal Transformation: Embrace the power of personal growth and transformation. Seek opportunities for self-improvement, challenge yourself to overcome obstacles, and embrace the unknown with courage. Just as Zeus symbolizes change and renewal, allow yourself to evolve and unleash your true potential. 🎖
3️⃣ Embracing Power: Recognize and embrace the power within you. Understand that power can be a force for positive change when wielded with responsibility and compassion. Empower yourself and others, and use your influence to uplift those who need support and guidance. 🪨
4️⃣ Connecting with Nature: Honor Zeus's connection to the sky and the natural elements. Spend time outdoors, especially during thunderstorms or in high places where you can feel closer to the heavens. Let the wild beauty of nature remind you of Zeus's awe-inspiring presence and the vastness of his power. ⛈
5️⃣ Seeking Wisdom: Pursue knowledge and wisdom with a thirst for learning. Engage in intellectual pursuits, delve into philosophical discussions, and seek out mentors who can guide you on your journey. Embrace the wisdom of Zeus and use it to navigate the complexities of life. 📚
⚡🌟 Embrace the Power Within: Zeus's Blessing ⌛⚡🌟
As you journey alongside Zeus, may his thunderous power awaken within you. Embrace his strength, leadership, and transformative energy to bring about positive change in your life and the world around you. Let Zeus's presence remind you of your own potential and the responsibility that comes with wielding power.
⚡🌩️ Blessed be, as you walk the path of Zeus's mighty power! 🌩️⚡

Zeus Lykaios
Tumblr media
In the heart of ancient Arkadia, atop Mt Lykaion, was an enormous ash altar dedicated to the prehistoric sky-god form of Zeus. In effigies discovered in excavations of the ashen mound, he is referred to by his oldest epithet, Zeus Semios, the Giver of Signs, among others; Zeus Ombrios, the Showery; Zeus Lykaios, interpreted alternately as both Zeus the Wolf-like and Zeus the Light. This site was three-layered: the top of the mountain was devoted to burnt offerings; the second, about halfway down the mountain, was the larger sanctuary that attracted the most visitors. It is assumed that this first sanctuary was what the majority of traveling worshippers came to see and leave offerings at the second altar. This was devoted to rites of thanksgiving, praying, and leaving smaller personal offerings that would not be taken to the mountaintop. Halfway between the two sanctuaries was a fountain, a spring of freshwater where Pausanias recorded witnessing priests coming together to officiate a ritual to entreat Zeus into letting down rain.
Offerings:
Most of the people coming to this specific sanctuary in Arkadia were farmers from the surrounding land. Their requests were most often recorded as prayers for rain and plentiful harvests. They offered many things, including livestock to be sacrificed and their bones burnt on the peak altar, but this was not the norm. Many household objects have been unearthed, but here are some notable surviving offerings to Zeus:
Philai (small libation bowls)
Skyphoi (a deep wine bowl with two handles and a stand)
Terracotta lamps
Iron knives
Bronze rings
Iron keys
Terracotta figurine of a small bird
Coins
Miniature bronze tripod cauldrons
depictions of Zeus
In modern reconstruction, offerings of jewelry, pottery, statues, coins, and figurines are historically attested.
