i’ve been slacking on my devotion lately but i’ll always love the gods and they’ll always understand. they know that as long as i’m alive, i am living for them.

⚡ Subtle Zeus Worship 🦅
Falling asleep or meditating to the sound of rain
Playing in the rain; splashing in puddles, dancing, just having a jolly old time
Keep a picture of him in your wallet
Have a candle that reminds you of him
Wear jewelry that reminds you of him
Celebrate/display your achievements
Be kind to yourself
Learn to take pride in yourself; be your own role model
Have a stuffed animal of a bull, lion, or an eagle
Have imagery of eagles, storms, or kingship around (eagles are especially good in an evangelical household (US especially))
Collect rain water (you're welcome to use it for watering plants or the like)
Participating in voting, if able
Learning about and practicing healthy conflict resolution skills
Learning to compromise with others
Doing any kind of hard or challenging work that needs to be done
Educate yourself on your rights (legally); keep up to date on new bills and laws; join groups that support bills and laws you support, especially in favor of human rights
Support human rights, humanitarian, or natural disaster aid organizations
Volunteer at homeless shelters
Give a warm meal to someone in need
Donate items to thrift shops and shelters
Spend time with your loved ones
Honor your home; make your space your own
Express yourself in little, if you can't be open (wearing a bracelet to represent your gender, pride flag colored shoelaces, etc.)
Make a list of goals at the end of every month; the goals are things you wish to accomplish during the next month
Invest in your future; save money, apply for further education, look into future career ideas, etc.
Watch movies that inspire and empower you
Bake things with cinnamon and honey
Listen to music that feels empowering
Cloud-watching; maybe try to learn divination through clouds as well
Educating yourself on the history of Ancient Greece, especially the culture
Practicing standing up for yourself; asserting your personal boundaries; learning what your boundaries are
-
May add more later on! This is my list of discreet ways to worship Zeus, for the time being. I hope this helps, and enjoy! 💜

The gods are not their myths. (Or on this blog we support Zeus because we follow his cult, not the poets’.)

im really starting to get sick of certain people in this community
whenever someone does a drawing based on whatever god their worshipping, there’s always someone in the comments like “well thats not how i see them, they look like this!”
which good for you!
but the gods, especially ones like Aphrodite and Zeus are KNOWN for changing their appearance
Aphrodite? literally changes her appearance at WILL depending on the perception of beauty she’s currently in the presence of
Zeus? could literally make himself look mortal and have the appearance of animals
what are you guys not understanding
not all gods will be perceived the same to everyone, and you cant expect them to be
let people have fun with honoring the gods with silly little art pieces for fucks sake

It’s beyond frustrating when people use my Zeus-posts as a place to express their hatred for him because (it feels like) it assumes my love for Zeus is blind and uncritical—if not wholly uninformed.
I’ve dedicated literal years to studying Zeus.
He is the star around which my research revolves as an aspiring classicist.
I am keenly aware of the fact that there is a level of differentiation between the Zeus Of Myth and the Zeus Of Religion (i.e., the worshipped Zeus), and I try to measure/toe that line with discretion and grace.
My observations are meant to be thought-provoking, but instead, they provoke wholesale dismissals of my subject matter.
Let me know peace, gd

Low energy Devotional Acts for when you don’t have a lot of energy (or time, or money, etc.) pt. 1

-watch war related documentaries
-watch combat sports like boxing, wrestling, etc.
-do a Wikipedia rabbit hole search about various weapons and/or combat styles from any era or a YouTube deep dive whichever works for you
-if able find and attend a reenactment my town does a little civil war thing a few times a year that I occasionally go to you learn about what life as a soldier was like and what training was like and all that it’s very interesting
-watch a video about Thebes! Ares is said to have played a role in its founding!

Zeus is a wonderful God! (Aka he and his worshippers don't deserve hate, ever) I mostly worship him as Ktesios and Astrapaios but he's many things:
Zeus is a god of fate, of law and justice.
Zeus is a protecter, he is a king, he is a god of hospitality who protects fugitives, strangers and all who need it.
He is a just and fair God (even if we can't see it), he is the lightning, the thunder and the rain.
He is, many things but he is: The Good God

Trying to Explain How the Gods Feel to Me
Inspired by @khthonioi and their post. They’re really sweet so check them out!
Hermes: The excitement of getting a letter from a real person, winning a coin toss, suddenly breaking into a sprint, helping a friend up after they’ve fallen, getting on a train and not knowing where you’ll get off, speaking in a foreign language for the first time, having someone you love stay over at your house, cool evening air after a hot day, jumping a fence, winning a game of go fish as a child, visiting a bustling market, getting doubles with dice, successfully passing a soccer ball
Ares: Doing what needs to be done, finding old scars, persevering no matter what, the feeling that comes after a workout, overcoming a fear, bandaging up a wound, the buzz of a protest, feeling the blood of all that have come before you running through your veins, holding an old pocket knife, wearing a leather jacket, the smell of dragons blood, lighting a match only to blow it out, the satisfaction of cracking ice, pressing on a bruise and finding it no longer hurts
Artemis: Slipping into worn boots, balancing on a log with no fear of falling, dancing alone in your room, late night walks, running your hands through a dogs fur, severing the stem of a flower with a knife, the lightness after cutting off a lot of hair, twirling in a flowy skirt or dress, being able to see at night thanks to the moon, the drive to keep going, the gurgling of a stream, making eye contact with a wild animal and feeling a connection, cooking on a campfire
Zeus: The rumble of thunder in your chest, seeing justice be carried out, knowing this is where you’re meant to be, watching lightning hit the earth, realizing you can change the outcome, entering a dark oak forest, watching a bird soar against the wind, doing what other deemed impossible, a warm hand on your shoulder, smelling petrichor in the air, finding proof of something you knew to be true, seeing the trees bend but not break to the wind, feeling all the hair on your body stand up, the heaviness in the air before a storm

Monthly Cycle of praise
Each day, depending on the number of the month, you may praise a god, goddess, or minor theoi associated with the number. This cycle allows for the learning of Greek myths daily and a deep connection with all of the pantheon. The cycle is based on Hesiod's works.
Notes:
Days which are associated with Horkos may be difficult
Hekate is praised at the end of the month. In short months, simply praise her on a new moon
Praising the gods listed in this list is not necessary, but as these days are sacred, it builds bonds. It's great to praise every God in this religion. It is polytheism, after all!
The cycle
Noumenia, Apollon
Dæmon, Zeus
Athena
Hermes, Aphrodite, Eros
Horkos
Artemis
Apollon
Poseidon, Asklepios, Hephaistos, Hygeia
Dionysus, Misa, Semele
Gaia, Pan, the Nymphs, Horae
Uranus, Aether, Phusis, Nephelae
Demeter, Antaea, Meter Theon
Athena
Kronos, Rhea, Titans
Horkos
Artemis
Dionysus Bassaraeus, Dionysus Licnitus, Dionysus Pericionius
Hera, Zeus of Thunder, Hephaestus
Heracles, Ares, Curetes
Apollon
Zabazius, Ippa, Lysius Lenaeus
Curetes, Corybas
Athena
Trietericus, Amphietus Bacchus, Silenus, Satyr, Bacchae
Horkos
Leucothea, Palaemon
Thalassa, Nereus, Nereids, Proteus
Mnemosyne, Themis
Boreas, Zephyrus, Notus
Hekate and the dead
With this, Orphic hymns are used. However, any hymns, personal prayers, or offerings can also be used.
