let's see... to answer your question... it's a little bit of a long story, so i'll make a read more! (there is a TLDR at the bottom if you want)

in late 2017, twitch was broadcasting a marathon of Duel Monsters. at that time, my partner, Jamie, was getting really invested into it, since he had mentioned how he liked it when he was younger. for me, i had heard of YGO on TV when i was younger too, but i felt like i couldn't get invested in it, so i never kept track of it. i was vaguely aware of YGO's continued spin-offs, but i never gave it a chance.

so, after a few weeks, his passion about the show and how much he loved Atem made me want to try giving it a shot, too. because of Megumi Ogata's Yugi Mutou, i was interested in starting from the Very Beginning with the Toei season (season 0). i was curious how subbed YGO might be.

so, we watched all of the Toei season together. i came to really love Yugi the most, as he is a very kindhearted protag (my favorite type of protag) as well as Jounouchi and Kaiba. i was surprised at how the story was about our connections with others. i really loved how different it was compared to what i expected or remembered about the series from the past. the focus on games in general as a medium for the story was really good.

i was hooked on it and respected it. i finally understood the appeal. i wanted to jump into Duel Monsters (sub) right away. and we did! we watched it all together, starting in early 2018.

it took several months to watch, and i enjoyed it! i remember feeling shocked and kinda sad that "the shadow realm" wasn't real, lol. i didn't realize it had been a show that was censored like that. we even watched the DSOD movie after. it was really cool... Yugi really is a character i adore!

for about about a year or so after, i was really invested into puzzleshipping. i didn't draw very much at the time because of my severe untreated carpal tunnel though, so there aren't much past works from me, nor did i ever make any ship art.

Jamie got invested into the spin-off YGO and started watching VRAINS while it was airing after seeing a post about Yusaku/Playmaker on here. i gave it a few episodes, and immediately gravitated to liking Ai. but, i was going through a tough time personally and felt a little fatigued (in general) and of YGO because it was such a long series. i didn't think i could do another 150+ anime. so, i dropped it after 3 episodes and did other things for a few years.

he would talk to me about how much he loved how VRAINS was going and about datastormshipping, and i happily listened even though i didn't understand. it was nice to be a support at the time when i felt too tired and stressed to participate. this went on into 2019 as it finished, and well after into 2020. though, it shifted into aiballshipping, but he kept me safe from spoilers.

on a whim, in the middle of 2022, i suggested we watch VRAINS together because i felt up for it again, and i wanted to watch an anime together. i was excited to learn about Ai more, as i saw some vague spoilers here and there about him. i immediately grew to love Yusaku and Ai a whole lot! i was excited every weekend we could watch together. it only took 3 months to watch all 120 episodes because i was that invested. i again felt like a fool for not continuing in the past...

...and you know the rest. it's impacted me a lot. i haven't stopped thinking or talking about them for nearly a year now. i'm even more impacted by their story than the Toei season or DM. i like the characters and story a lot more for VRAINS, so it's my favorite. i even picked up Duel Links because i wanted to learn how to play (i'm kind of bad at it). i'm currently in the middle of ZEXAL now, but i want to check out all the others eventually, too. exciting!

TLDR:

i got into it in 2017 because of my partner's influence. watched season 0, DM, and DSOD and loved it. fell off for personal difficulties in real life and fatigue with long series. picked up VRAINS again in 2022 after dropping it in 2018 after 3 episodes. am now insane (positive) and invested in YGO because it's so fun and good. i'm happy to be here and hope i can be for a long time

I think it's valid to reblog Zexal things if u don't feel like that's gonna clutter the blog, considering the amount of ppl producing Zexal things on tumblr is very small atm. And hey, who's gonna complain about having their art featured on a event blog???

This was about the post I reblogged that i couldn't tell if it was specifically for ZW or not, right? Thanks for your supportive words, I always get a lil anxious about running this event blog. Its the only one I've ever run, and I only took it over in 2020, after seeing the previous ZW blog deactivated.

OP saw my tags and said that while their post wasn't specific to Zexal Week, that it was totally ok to have the post on the blog, which does add to what you've said about people not being upset about their content on an event blog. I just second guess alot cuz I don't wanna inconvenience/upset anyone, yanno? >w>;;

But perhaps next time Zexal Week is held I'll go ahead and reblog non Zexal Week related content a little more? Both to try and get more of peoples's content shared, and to draw more of what remains of the Zexal community?

I'm absolutely open to taking opinions/suggestions/thoughts from everyone tho!

Akari is super cool! None of the other protagonists have siblings, so I adore that Yuma does. I loved watching their interactions, but Akari deserved more screen time! (Also, she’s super fun to draw.)

I always thought that the song "Still Here" by Digital Daggers fits these episodes incredibly well. Shark, Yuma and Kaito’s Personalities are informed by their family lives

Kaito was left to raise a younger brother while dad was off making Faustian bargains with inter-dimensional beings. He’s generally responsible, mature, level-headed. When faced with a problem he goes right to solving it. All signs of someone who had to grow up quickly and care for others. He’s also self-sacrificing, willing to forfeit his own emotional and physical wellbeing for greater causes.

Regular, human, free-meat-body-to-all-invading-Barian-souls, Ryouga Kamishiro, lost his parents at a young age, and was left with only his twin sister for family. He then faced a lot of hardship completely alone and nearly lost Rio, too. He’s usually closed off and grumpy, but will absolutely go all out for people he cares about, and takes his responsibilities toward others very seriously. 

Yuma grew up as the youngest and only boy--besides his dad--in a house with three women. And he’s also had Kotori around pretty much all time. From that it’s easy to assume that he’s been intensely mom-ed on his entire life. He was babied so he’s immature, but also idealistic. Being the youngest he’s loud and energetic, and idolizes his dad probably in part because he’s the biggest male role model Yuma had in his life.

Zexal Week 2020 - Crossover/AU

This is both crossover and au with one of my most favoutire game and anime called Danganronpa. I tried to draw them in Danganronpa style but it takes a lot of amount of time and it's not easy as it seems, at least to me, unfortunately Kotori is the only one who looks decent to me:

As you can see I tried to draw everybody but it would take me at least an entire week, I think Droite would've been the esiest to do because, for who know Danganronpa V3, Kirumi Tojo's design looks like also a Danganronpa version of her. I definately will write a fanfic about it and it might be similar a bit similar to the original but I will try to make it a lot different as well and keep it interesting, I just wish my English was good... I like to imagine that everyone in the cast of zexal that are in the killing game, they are Ultimates in their talent. In the page I didn't fill in everybody so here is the complete list:

Kaito Tenjo - Ultimate Tecnologist/Ultimate Analyst

Haruto Tenjo - Ultimate Prodigy (he's not a lepidopterologist he admires butterflies like Droite)

Dr Faker - Ultimate Scientist/ Ultimate Analyst (He's an analyst but other ultimate analyst seems to be more better than him as he cannot find every probable predictions of what will happen next and most of the time comes from his fears and insicurities like Astral's arrival)

Yuma Tsukumo - Ultimate Lucky Student/Ultimate Hope

Astral - Ultimate Hope

Shark/Ryouga Kamishiro - Ultimate Life Saver (he hates that talent... and sometimes also love it)/ Ultimate Swimmer

Droite - Ultimate Fighter/Ultimate Detective/Ultimate Analyst (Droite was many things in the anime so I am going transfer her talents here, she was also a lepidopterologist but she is not an ultimate, she just admires them greatly)

Gauche - Ultimate Swordfighter/ Ultimate Analyst (he's also not a very strong analyst compared to the other ultimates, but he's definately above avarage and is actually good, when he's serious that is)

Kotori Mizuki - Ultimate Cheerleader

Rio Kamishiro - Ultimate Sports Leader

Michael Arclight - Ultimate Archeologist

Thomas Arclight - Ultimate Marionnetist

Christopher Arclight - Ultimate Astronomer/Ultimate Analyst

Tron/Byron Arclight - Ultimate Researcher/Ultimate Analyst

Vector - Ultimate Head of Council (Ultimate Trickster)

As you can see there are 19 people but in my crossover au, 2 of them dies before the games begin , and in the original Danganronpa there is only one traitor right? However in this list there are actually multiple traitors but all of their memories are taken away. I have already decided who's going to live and die so their fates are sealed but I would like you to predict who will be the matermind, the Ultimate Despair of this crossover au and who will die and be the blackaned (the murderer)?

Ps. That crappy Monokuma that takes away our fave characters still exists
