He was simply waiting; that's all he could do.
He was at his personal shrine for you, secluded from Liyue Harbor and really only accessible to him. This is exactly the place you told him to meet with you, as you had something for him to do.
Oh, how he was ecstatic the moment your letter arrived! His face lit up with joy... you hadn't completely disregarded him yet! Even better, you had a task for him; you hadn't forsaken him... even if ti was the most absurd request, he would do it so. The only thing that mattered was that he could serve you.
So there he was, standing within the middle of his shrine, an offering in his hands. He would definitely make it so that he could please you, and you would place him in your favor.
And there it was. The click of boots against the quartz floor of the the smaller-scale temple. The signaling of your arrival.
He turned around promptly, kneeling to the floor. He didn't even get the chance to look at you, keeping his gaze to the floor. His breath hitched when the footsteps stopped and a pair of shoes stood directly in his limited field of vision.
"Morax," you greeted him, a bit harshly. "Your grace..." he returned you greeting in reverence, not sure what to say. He wouldn't say anything more though, in fear of angering you. He simply pressed his head closer to the ground. "Get up; stand properly." You harked an order with no hesitation nor mercy laced within your voice, because if you learned anything from your encounters with the previous archons, a little bit of anger could wrap them around your fingers instantly.
He stood up promptly, still not meeting your gaze. Instead, his eyes accidentally met with the Fatui Insignia placed on your clothes and his breath hitched. Such an emblem served as a symbol of pride for the people of Snezhnaya and a guilty reminder for the Archons and other nations.
"Look at me," so spoke once more, and his eyes finally locked with yours. A poker face adorned your features, but he could tell you could only look at him with disgust behind such a farce. He could simply feel the furious emotions emanating off of you at the sight of him.
But this was you, and he simply forgot how to breathe one he locked eyes with you. The last time he saw you, your face was battered and bruised from the constant chase from the nations. The tense aura could be ignored as he basked in your presence. At that point, he couldn't control the feint of a lovesick expression creeping across his face as you took a hold of his chin.
In return, a your frowned mouth turned up into a small, cocky smirk; an extra idea popping up. "You're the God of Contracts, right? So then I'd like to make one with you." He nodded at your statement, chin still in your grip. "You said once that a contract gives equal benefits to both parties; and if I am to grace you with my mere presence after what you've done, surely I deserve something equal in return?" You gave him a now coy look, finally letting go of his chin and turning your back to him.
"What do you propose to give me, Morax?"
He fell to his knee once more, but still kept his eyes on your figure. "I would give anything you wish for, including myself." You looked back at him from your position, still cocky in your tone. "Really then? Well, then I suppose I know what I want for my end of the contract." You turned around and bent over to his level, face now directly in front of his.
"You would give your all to me after all, wouldn't you?" You could see the lovesick expression on his face grow, as he responded with an faint 'Anything'.
And here you stood, with the strongest being on the plane of Teyvat at your fingertips.

Hey anon !! Wasn't entirely sure if you wanted both a cordato and latte combined, so I just went with latte as I got an ask for Zhongli w/ cordato already !! Hope this is fine with you, and if you wanted a mixture, don't feel afraid to send in an extra request / tell me !!
Otherwise, hope you enjoy the product :D
Zhongli was not a fool, surely. Barbatos was, in hindsight, quite brash and to the point. So it did not come to a surprise, when he stumbled across a figure all battered and broken up, hailing from the Stone Gate.
Zhongli, unlike Barbatos, was more diligent and more rational. He was able to come to the conclusion that this being was in fact their god, and was only wrongfully accused on impersonating him.
It wasn't too hard to figure out. Aside from the fact that even the greatest of their wounds seemed to magically heal, he could feel their warmth the moment he knelt beside them.
Zhongli, unlike Barbatos, was the first to truly see the "light" and nurture their beloved creator back to proper health. Surely, it did hurt him when their god stumbled to their feet in fear once they came to their senses, but he knew that he would be the one who was to be favored once it passed.
He knew he would be the one by his god's side when they cleansed the world and recreated it in their visage once more. He would be their tool to recreate the world as they see fit.
