Ona - another property owner in the imaginary land of Roadless; laid-back, lazy and always ready to join an adventure

Zwęglacz, Żarzak, Spala and others - ryjkacze from the Fire tribe who all possess the elemental power of Fire, which is of course necessary to make your chocolate really hot.

References and trivia:

This update has what might be the most ambitious illustration in the entire story. Not only I've put a few dozen characters on it, I also had to learn perspective drawing for this. Big thanks to my friend Silwer who encouraged me to use a placeholder WIP version of the illustration, otherwise there would be no update in probably ten years or so. Placeholder will stay until I get enough energy to finish the drawing.

It seems that in the meantime tumblr changed their subpage editor a bit to make it more inconvenient. I have to hurry up or I'm afraid subpage editor will be deleted for good lol

Ugh so my landlady spent almost two hours telling me about all the possible tragic outcomes of a covid vaccine she heard about and also used the opportunity to complain about poor people who become politicians, and about chemicals in foreign-made food that surprisingly to her replaces locally-made food at foreign-owned supermarkets, and it left me so devastated that I had to call my stock hero for help lol

He's obviously one of my fav OCs, and unique among them in that he's not based on me in any way, instead he's based on a good memory, and I was waiting so long to tell you this story, it's personal so read under the cut,

So the guy here, the hero, the ace, he's based on a very specific man I met, to be more precise: the first person in my life who noticed something was wrong with me, although he didn't really tell me that. What he noticed was that I, a teenager at that time, was unable to talk to adult men. Completely unable to make a sound when facing a man in a casual situation (I didn't have that issue with teachers because I treated them very formally). And he (also a teacher, but outside the classroom context) said to me, hey, we gotta do something with that, what if I will talk to you shortly every time we see each other in the corridor, and I thought, well, it surely can't make anything worse, so I nodded. I did not believe it could work, but he seemed worried and I didn't want him to be worried, Imfineafterallyesfineyoucangonow. And he went with this plan, he was greeting me, I greeted him back, and then magic happened, and a few weeks later I became kinda relaxed when doing this, I no longer had panic attacks, I could think clearly, and suddenly talking to men wasn't much scarier than talking to women. Like, ???, pure sorcery.

He showed me kindness, but no pity. I didn't even realize what happened, to be honest. I only remembered that event a few years ago, and, man, if it wasn't for him I wouldn't be able to be an engineer, or do any other job in men-dominated fields, and I can't even imagine how would I react to actual asshole men I met, all becaue of this one man who showed me not everyone is like... like that other man I know.

Yeah people liked to make fun of that man but he'll always be my hero, and I secretly made him a monument in this OC.

...It seems like I did it mostly subconsciously, but I designed humanoid!Zwęglacz’s first iteration around the time this shit was happening, and the current iteration (which is noticeably kinder and more laid-back) around the time I remembered that shit happened and noticed its positive impact on me, and only recently I noticed the resemblance fire unca has to my hero. So, yeah, I guess subconsciously. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Od jakiegoś roku co najmniej było postanowione, że Zwęglacz jest wdowcem, wymyśliłam mu nawet dzieci. Dopiero teraz mam pomysł na świętej pamięci małżonkę.

Mimo groźnego wyglądu Zwęglacz ma wielkie serce, do tego stopnia, że potrafi się zdobyć na życzliwość tam, gdzie wszyscy inni zgrzytają zębami. Ci, co znają jego małżonkę jedynie z opowieści są bardzo zdziwieni odkrywając, że była ona całkowitym przeciwieństwem męża. Nie była zła, trzeba przyznać, nie była podła ani nikczemna, co nie zmienia faktu, że miała paskudny charakter. Ta zołza miała niebywały talent do zrażania do siebie innych i kto tylko mógł, unikał jej jak ognia.

Ale Zwęglaczowi to nie przeszkadzało. Dla niego była najwspanialszą osobą na świecie, która niebywałym zbiegiem okoliczności odwzajemniła uczucie i tworzyła z nim szczęśliwe małżeństwo aż po grób.

On do tej pory ciepło ją wspomina. Wszyscy inni znajomi, cóż, na pogrzebie przygnębieni nie byli.

Syn Zwęglacza odziedziczył charakterek po matce. Według ojca to bardzo wzruszające.

Spodobał mi się ten motyw z kilku powodów. Po pierwsze, obsadzenie groźnego Zwęglacza w roli beznadziejnie zakochanego absztyfikanta bardzo mnie bawi. Po drugie, taka różnica charakterów jest bogatym źródłem pysznego kontrastu i groteski. Po trzecie, to nie jest jedna z tych par, gdzie małżonek jest gnębiony, bo Zwęglacz akurat na złośliwości żony jest całkowicie i zupełnie odporny, a ona swoją drogą wcale nie chce go skrzywdzić, po prostu ma taki styl bycia. No i po czwarte, pocieszne są te pary ucieleśniające powiedzenie "każda potwora znajdzie swojego amatora".

Three forced doodles. First one is a concept of elongated Hoffa, who was meant to have Rapunzel hair but ended up looking more like Jessie from Team Rocket, which is not a bad thing.

Second one is a casual picture of Hoffa and Rajmund hating each other’s guts. Girl surely has a fondness for blades.

Third is Zwęglacz and Danuta when they weren’t officially dating yet but come onnn (also coffee shop AU maybe?)

I did it to convince myself I’m still an artist. Because, well, I didn’t draw anything for the last few weeks. Nothing at all. That’s really unusual for me and I’m slowly getting worried. Naturally I wanted to write my webcomic script in the meantime, but I was too exhausted after work to do this. It’s an unplanned break, makes me feel like I lost control. I have zero chill and I wish there was someone who could draw my drawings for me. I can only hope coming home for Christmas will help me instead of making things even worse - it really helps that we won’t have guests this year.

Zwęglacz: What do you think? Ryź: First question - WHY

Looking at characters from various media who style their goatees in thematic shapes I suddenly realized with terror that my most prominent goatee-sporting OC doesn’t use a theme for his shaving which is UNBELIEVABLE so here is Zwęglacz with not just another goatee but a FLAME shaped goatee, because he’s from the Fire element and that’s the only correct way to wear a goatee in that land.

Yeah I know it looks silly but come on, ryjkacze is not a story that’s meant to be serious, and Ryź should keep his opinions for himself smh. Now this is just a sketch that’s been a bit cleaned because I’m not even sure if I want to draw this ridiculous piece of facial hair in a detailed artstyle lol

Creating a complex character means combining traits from a dozen of known characters, right? Right???

Some OCs are based on experience while others are walking cliche storms and I'm perfectly fine with that! 👌

This are just the most obvious picks. I could've put a bunch more characters on the pic, like Raphael from Rise of TMNT seems to give similar vibes, but I haven't seen that show so it's just a guess, lol. And also I thought about Mr. Germany and Mr. Denmark from Hetalia, but using both seems a bit like a paradox, bah.
