kieran x elam for @lilyoffandoms for the @choicesfandomappreciation 2024 secret admirer event ❤️

apologies for the delay, i wanted to get this done by valentines but it would not cooperate with me😭 i had so much fun doing this, i hope you like it!! this is actually the third of concepts i tried doing, so more on that + timelapse under the cut for those interested (: (and yes, this is based off of one of the iconic scenes from howl's moving castle.)

i wanted to do something that really captured " warm softness to the cold hard edges" and i thought of maybe drawing a scene where elam realizes the beast is kieran. kieran's monster complex is a big part of their character and mc loving and embracing that part, the warmth to kieran's "monster", loving them despite and maybe even for it, was something i always liked about their dynamic. so that was the first draft but i wasnt feeling it and i couldnt figure out the drawing so i scrapped it HGJDHFKGHD

then i tried a second version where they're in a garden and elam gives kieran flowers, but idk, it just didn't fit?? heres the abandoned wip of it anyway OTL

while drawing and conceptualizing i kept thinking about what TCH reminded me of. the most obvious (and relevant, i think) is acotar, but then i remembered miyazaki's howl's moving castle, which is so much more like TCH than anything. so i wanted to do something with elam's hand over kieran's heart but it just did not work out (as you'll see in the timelapse), so i ended up with something more like a screenshot redraw of one of the iconic scenes in the movie:

Hi! I was wondering who turned your bb Mc and what are your favorite angst moments w Gaius ??

hiii !! my main verse is that kamilah turns magdalene and they have an open relationship, and a few decades down the line magdalene, kamilah, and gaius become a throuple of sorts. it definitely took a lot of work but they eventually get there (:

some of my fave angst moments with him are:

him realizing that rheya never truly cared or loved him and only used him. how he dedicated his life, body, and soul to her and it's the only way he knows how to live and love earnestly (and he wants to dedicate himself to mc, old habits die hard!!)

him being alone post-bb3 (similar to the vibes in the storyloom story!)

alienation from the rest of vampirekind/navigating his way in the world post-bb3/brainwashing

complicated divorcees era with kamilah (especially after brainwashing)! youve spent two thousand years together and know each other best - and yet also not at all. messy!

his Yearning™️ for companionship, preferably with magdalene, who he clearly has a crush on (that he tries to repress so bad. god bless bloodbound cold blood) but it's awkward and there's the question of kamilah and all the blood between them and him, and of course what he did to magdalene.
