The phrasing of that one text post implies Dr Jekyll views marijuana as worse than a line of coke and I for one think that is incredibly funny

He's a Victorian, of course he thinks weed is worse than coke. Or, rather, he thinks coke is better than weed.

A couple of people recently dug this up again and reblogged it and YES I still believe this to true

Dr Jekyll is both a victim of society and the villain imo.

I love how in the book it suggestively gives him so much depth as a character; i feel it's a shame when people choose one side of his character. (Either he's a gentle saint or an asshole)

I stated this in a reblog i did but i wanted to make it it's own post; The homoerotic nature of the book leads to heavy implications that Jekyll is gay, and Hyde was created to relieve those urges. (I don't think this is the sole reason he was made, but i think it's a key aspect)

also on the argument if Jekyll IS Hyde...he most definitely is! I'm not a huge fan of adaptations that treat them as two different people, but it is important to remember Hyde definitely seems to THINK in some different ways than Jekyll (i.e "I had a fathers interest in him, but Hyde had a sons disinterest in me..." and "Will Hyde kill himself?" in referring to the end)

So what does this mean? in my thoughts, this means Hyde is Jekyll, but in an altered state of mind. (Similar to how you are YOU, but in a different mindset on say heroin or cocaine)

The urges are still stemming Jekyll's own,and he WILLINGLY allows himself to become this irrational, angry little man (I.e addiction.) It always still IS Jekyll, just Jekyll in a self-inflicted alternative state of mind

TL;DR: Jekyll is still a jerk but also society is a bitch and Hyde is a drugged manifestation of jekyll

So uhm can we finally talk about how Poole and Utterson have known each other for twenty years and their relationship in the story is mainly explored through their shared affection for Jekyll? I know the divorce between Jekyll and Lanyon led more imagination to the reader, but I would like to know more about whatever fanclub Gabriel and Poole set up for Henry at the time. Do you think he knows his butler and lawyer are starving for more details about his bedtime routine than it is deemed as socially acceptable
