The US single-handedly blocked the UN from recognizing Palestine by vetoing a draft resolution in the Security Council that recommended that “the State of Palestine be admitted to membership of the UN.” With 12 council members voting yes, a clear majority voted in favor; only the UK and Switzerland abstained.
Meanwhile, 139 of the 193 UN member states already recognize Palestine, virtually all of the world safe for the Global North and its closest allies.
Even in the EU, several countries are set to recognize Palestine soon. Since 2012, the Palestinians have been a non-member observer state to the UN, a de facto recognition of statehood granted by the UN General Assembly.
However, the Security Council and then at least two-thirds of the General Assembly must approve an application to become a full member of the world body.
The Palestinian push for full membership came six months into Israel’s devastating war of extermination against the Gaza Strip, and as Israel is expanding settlements in the occupied West Bank, which the UN already considers to be illegal.

for the record i didn't steal the sonic ihop menu. that could've gotten my server in trouble (because she was in charge of my table and management can be a bitch) and i'm not out here trying to hurt my fellow man. i literally just asked her if i could have it. then she said they should have extras in the back and went to look. but there weren't any. so after 10 minutes looking, she asked her manager. and they said i could take it. then i tipped 200% because she didn't need to do all that shit for me. i'm saying all this cuz i've seen some people say they're gonna steal the menus and i really don't think you should do that. food service is a hard job and if you're nice and just ask, the server will probably let you have it. instead of risking getting them in trouble, why not do that?

Ontario's health care spending was the lowest in Canada per capita and below the average of other provinces in the 2022-2023 fiscal year, according to a new report by a government watchdog.
The Financial Accountability Office (FAO) of Ontario report, released Wednesday, compares Ontario government spending, revenues, budget balance and net debt with other Canadian provinces using Statistics Canada's government finance statistics for that year. The FAO provides independent analysis on the state of the province's finances.
According to the report, health care spending per capita in Ontario was $4,889 in 2022-2023, the lowest in Canada, and $876, or 15.2 per cent, below the average of the other provinces. Health care spending includes spending on hospital and outpatient services, medical products and equipment, and public health services. You can read the report here.
"Since 2008, Ontario's health spending per capita has consistently ranked at or near the lowest in Canada," the report reads.
Education spending in Ontario, however, was $2,843 per capita in 2022, the fifth highest among the provinces and $71, or 2.6 per cent, above the average of the other provinces. Education spending includes spending on primary, secondary and post-secondary education programs. [...]
