Mini Resi’s for fun! And to test out some derwent graphitint watercolours from scrawlrbox.
Mixed with graphite, they don’t act like usual watercolours, which made them a bit harder to control at times. But I love the subtle earthy tones and the cool granulating effects.
Used them to experiment with different hues for Resi.

Mini Resi’s for fun and to test out some watercolours from scrawlrbox later!
Though it was semi intentional I kinda exaggerated her beak a bit much in the top ones, woops. These are just the different forms I draw her in but it looks like a pokemon evolving ha

Postcard sized peryton painting for the mythical birds project.
Smaller and faster than thier hyppogriff cousins, speed is the main defense of these nimble creatures. Their wings have some gliding ability to help them escape danger. If caught, their sharp hooves and spurs can be a painful last resort.

Hi! I got your prints I ordered from INPRNT, and they've been on my wall for less than 48 hours and I've already gotten compliments from my roommate and from friends (over video chat). They look amazing, even more beautiful than the online pictures suggest. They're a delight and make me smile every time I see them. Love your work!

Oh great! Glad you got them safely this time!!

Aw and that’s lovely to hear, thank you! And I’m glad they turned out well. I really appreciate the support c:

Watercolour Plant Dragon

I originally planned to paint this little guy digitally but work ramped up my hours. I struggle to make anything decent with just little scraps of time in between work so I’m leaving finished digital paintings until my contract ends in January. I’ll still try to just do practice paintings and small studies but I probs won’t be uploading them. I’ll still draw and do small watercolours like this on days off though. It helps me stay sane in amongst Christmas retail!

So my part time job is now a full time job with pretty irregular working days. So I’m gonna have to change my art plans again.

Trying to do longer digital paintings is absolutely not working. I can maybe get a 1 to 2 hours block of working in a night and i’m pretty tired from standing up all day so my concentration and decision making is …not great. I might try to do studies and little practice paintings after work but I probs wont upload these. And watercolours on my days off. So I don’t get too rusty but yeah art updates are really going to slow down until the contract ends in January.

I usually try to get etsy orders out twice every week but depending on my schedule it’ll likely only be once per week.

Not gonna lie, if I knew it would end up like this I wouldn’t have taken the job. But because of covid lock-downs the company is unlikely to take on more staff so I doubt I’ll be kept on. So I’ll just have to power through this and get paid while I can. Feeling rough cause I hate retail. I’m a slow working introvert so Christmas retail is hell but there isn’t anything else I can do. But Its not the worst thing all things considering. I’m lucky I got this position in the first place! Plus, once its over I’ll have some savings so I can relax and concentrate on my portfolio.

Ps. This isn’t a dig at the manager. I’m really grateful for the employment and they can’t control the situation with multiple staff off sick. Plus me being employed at the absolute worst time.

Hippogriff watercolour for the fantasy birds project. I want these to be the big tough herbivores in comparison to the smaller, dainty dear like peryton’s.
Wings are too small for even gliding and are instead used for threat displays, body language and attracting mates.

These horse sized hyena relatives are seen as an omen of death. Both as a cruel curse or as a friendly guide into the afterlife, depending on who you talk to. They stalk the weary and injured in deserts and plains. Waiting for its quarry to finally collapse. Their size and long forelimbs help them to scan thier wide open territories. But they also make them slow moving and ungainly so they make for poor hunters. They avoid injury as much as possible but if food is scarce and their cubs need feeding they might hurry their prey along into the afterlife.

Yay its done! I was trying a different technique for this so it was a bit of a learning process.
Mostly based on brown hyena’s with a bit of vulture for the mostly hairless head.

Managed to get a part time job!!!

Just got it this morning and I’m starting on Thursday! I’m so relieved cause job hunting was starting to feel pretty hopeless. Its with a company I’m familiar with so I’m pretty happy about it.

Its a Christmas temp job so I’m going to take advantage of this as much as I can and just focus on portfolio work in my spare time until it ends. So i’m closing commissions until January. Sorry if anyone was thinking about getting one! I’ll still be running my etsy store and I might do the odd adoptable.

Speaking of etsy. I’m aware I’m running low on the monster hunter charms, so I’ve ordered some more and I’ll hopefully get them soon! I’ve also ordered some new stickers.

I think I’m going to have to dial back the mythical bird zine into something smaller. The a4/a5 sizes are just taking a bit too long to make and this was just supposed to be a fun little project. I like the idea of just doing mini watercolours cause they’re just so satisfying to do and I can usually get them done in a day or two. Also the idea of a mini a6 printed zine is pretty cute.

Creature concept to be digitally painted soon!
Its a big, horse sized scavenger, which scans the open desert and grassland with the help of its long forelimbs.
Wanted to go for something unsettling but believable and natural. Mostly based on brown hyena’s with a bit of vulture for the mostly hairless head.

Traditional pencil with some digital edits.

I forgot how much fun col erase pencils are!
Wont use them for commissions since they don’t erase quite as well as normal pencils. But I think I’ll use them more for personal things.

This guy will be used for some digital inking practice.

I’ve got a couple of slots open! And I would absolutely love to draw any spooky Halloween themed commission ideas. Or monsterfying your characters, anything like that!

Order now to get it in time for Halloween.

Commission info, examples, form, tos and availability. Please make sure to read the tos before you order, thank you!

Updates

You’ve probably noticed I’m experimenting with digital again. I feel a bit more confident in my painting so I’m ready to try and tackle it again. Partly for portfolio and employment opportunities and partly to learn about rendering and lighting. The thing that’s most daunting to me is the amount of choice with digital. I don’t really know what “look” to go for. So it’ll probably take some more awkward experimenting to find something that feels right. But for folk who like my watercolours, don’t worry! I plan to keep going with them along side my digital work. And I’m still working on that mythical birds zine!

Not much luck on the job hunt, which is expected with covid. I got a couple of interviews but that’s it. And not gonna lie, I don’t really want a retail job during covid. But I’m getting worried about my future. Its made me want to try for some entry level generalist art jobs again, which is why I’m thinking about portfolios.
