Tamlin week 2023 Day three: Found Family
@tamlinweek2023
Okayy here is the snippet i was talking about. Well ig it's a lil longer than a snippet but not long enough to be in two parts? I am srry I suck at this? Lol.
Before you go in a couple of things. This fic isn't for you if you hate Tamlin so please go away. I will not tolerate any Tam slander. This isn't a Tamlin "redemption" au it's a healing one. It takes place around 5 years after the first calamnai in Acotar. (Donno how much time it is since Acosf will have to see). Tamlin is very close to the Summer court.
PS: This is just an experiment to see how ppl react to my writing. Like depends if I will continue this (I really want to tho). This is first time I have ever put anything I have written out in the world. So pls be kind ♥️
-------------------------------------------------------
Part 1: A Very Wintery Winter Solstice
The thunder cackled sinisterly in the weeping sky of the longest night of the year. Yet that didn't stop the people of the Winter Court to dance and revel in the freezing temperatures. Women with their lavish silk gowns soaking wet, twirled in practiced circles. While the men drank their weight in the corners, admiring their significant others from afar.
The castle looming behind shone as bright as a fallen star on earth. Down below in the courtyard, the music and laughter roared as loud as the thunder high above. The entire arena painted in every hue of blue and white one's eye could comprehend. The glow of the faerie lights bouncing off the ice like iridescent glass, illuminating the area in an incandescent light.
The royal family of the Winter Court were seated on a little balcony overlooking the gigantic compound. As regal and elegant and happy as ever. To a balcony on their right sat the Autumn's heir. Two beautiful maidens half-dressed even in the frigid, tending to him as he nursed an absurdly large glass of liquor. To the left of the High Lord and Lady of the Winter Court was an empty balcony, where the High Lord of Summer and the Princess of Adriata were to be seated. But it seemed the cold was too much for the children of Summer.
And beside them sat the High Lord of Spring, his head laid back, eyes closed and basking in the cold of the night. He had found that he had started to quite like the Winter Court. The hard cold of its weather. He felt a sort of familiarity in it. It's how he felt on the inside. Always. Gone was the sweet, unpredictable wildness of Spring. She had taken it from him. Taken away what made him the Lord of Spring. He mourned it. Not her. Not anymore. But he did mourn himself. Who he was and what he lost.
The High Lord opened his eyes and looked into the night sky above. The silver moon looked back at him. He had always found it quite interesting as a boy. Always wondered where it had come from, or who had placed it there. What spell they had bound it to, that it only showed in the dark. That is until his mother had told him that it was The Mother's Land. Where souls went to spend unending eternity after their time on this earth was over. Although he had matured enough since then to realise that wasn't true in the least, he still chased that innocence. That time when his mother's word had been the law, and hence he had spent countless hours talking to the moon after her death. Hoping she'd hear him. But not now. Not when the night sky only reminded him of her. Of what she had returned to after she had left destruction to him and his in her wake. To where she lay at night, warm and comfortable and happy after she'd left his people battered and homeless. So now looking at the moon, only brought back memories Tamlin wished to bury deep, deep within. So he mourned it too.
It's her birthday
It didn't matter.
"Ta-amlin" a voice called out from behind.
Tamlin sighed heavily at Tarquin's quivering voice and excused himself back past the curtains into the guest room he had been staying in.
A gush of warmth caressed his skin as he stepped onto the warm lush woolen carpet in the living room of the gigantic suite. A roaring fireplace sat on the far end of the room, with two armchairs and cushions laid down. A table of dark wood was situated in the centre of the sitting area laid out with liquor, those absurdly large classes and cups of the Winter Court and some tea. To his left lay the bedroom which was accentend in dark sombre colours and he had been grateful for it. He hated brightly coloured walls, definitely unlike his ancestors and their architects who seemed intent on giving him a seizure one day. It had been one of the first things he had done when he became High Lord. Repainted his living quarters. Well, he would be wrong to say that was the only reason, they were covered in his parents blood after all.
Viviane, it seemed, had taken great care of his lodging arrangements. No brightly coloured walls, no silly vases, no paintings of half naked people doing shit and flying around and a small dish of cashews on his bedside table.
She had been his friend. Before everything. A very good friend at that. He still remembered the first time he had seen her. A young adolescent who blushed as red as apples almost all the time. He had met her and her family at the Autumn Equinox ball. His first as a High Lord. Though Autumn had stopped hosting soon after their youngest Prince was born. Lucien. He did visit sometimes. But it wasn't the same. Tamlin didn't think it would be. And he wasn't sure he wanted it to be. Not when he could never be sure if Lucien's loyalty secretly lay with his mate's family.
"Hey!" Tarquin snapping his fingers in front of him brought him back from his thoughts.
When green eyes fell on the boy in front of him Tamlin pressed his lips together to bite back a laugh. The High Lord of Summer was ridiculously wrapped in layers and layers of woolen blankets and fleece lined shawls, only his opal eyes visible.
"Are you cold?" Tamlin asked, his eyes twinkling in mischief.
"You think?" Tarquin sneered
Tamlin let out a laugh and guided the High Lord to the fire. It didn't surprise him anymore. Laughing. Smiling. Finding little moments of happiness. He kept those close to his heart. Protected them with all he could because he knew they were fleeting. He made sure they were. He didn't dare be too happy. Because if his 507 years on his earth had ever taught him anything, it was that the Mother wouldn't stand seeing him too happy. She'd take it away. Probably some kind of balance. He didn't know. He didn't care anymore honestly. He cared about very few things these days. One of them sitting beside him on the armchair, his teeth clattering audibly.
"Tarquin, if you are so cold, we can go home." He sighed.
"N-no."
Stubborn boy.
"Fine." Tamlin huffed. "Let Crueseda go home at least."
"S-she did".
Tamlin held back a groan. "Then why aren't you?"
"Are you serious Tamlin? This is my first Seasonal Gathering as High Lord. I have to stay through it."
The Seasonal Gatherings. Gatherings of the royal families of the Seasonal Courts: Autumn, Winter, Summer and Spring. Each court hosted one every year. On the Autumn Equinox, the Winter Solstice, the Summer Solstice and the Spring Equinox, which was known as Calamnai, respectively. A tradition started almost a millenia ago during the Prythian Civil War between the then known as Northern Prythian (Solar Courts) and Southern Prythian (Seasonal Courts). There was something about partying during wartime. It was a show of power and indifference. And a way fashioned by the High Lords to show where their loyalties lay. His brother, Felix had told him it was a "fuck you" to the enemy. Tamlin had found it utter foolery. This was the first gathering since Amarantha banned them fifty years ago.
"Alright. But at least let me ask Eris to warm your room up a little more"
"No! I don't want you to ask anything of that smug twat. I don't want him knowing I am suffering"
But Tamlin wasn't listening anymore. He was watching the roaring fire. As the twigs snapped and burned. That sound. The sound of a neck breaking. Feyre's neck. Even though he had taught himself to forget almost everything about her, except what she had done to his people, that damned sound never left him. The blood gushing out of his chest, as he clutched the throbbing wound where she had daggered him. That madness and anger and pure lunacy he had seen in Amarantha's eyes haunted-
"Maybe we should go home." Tarquin said softly. As though knowing what was going through Tamlin's head.
Tamlin nodded. He hated it when things like this happened. When he got lost in his memories. Especially around Tarquin and Crueseda. They'd always insist that he should do something about it. Get help. It was a never-ending argument. But, if it made the stubborn silver-haired boy leave before his teeth either fell off or froze, Tamlin didn't hate it all too much.
And perhaps it's nice being reminded someone cares.
Tarquin stood on his feet clutching the blankets tighter. "I think I will stay at the Willow House tonight. Changing from extreme cold to hot might make me ill. Spring would be a nice reprieve."
Lies. It takes more than temperature change to make a High Lord ill.
"That would be lovely" Tamlin spoke, willing that aloofness into his voice, his eyes downcast. The perfect imagery of someone broken and tired, who desperately needed to get home. Tamlin didn't particularly like using his predicament to his advantage but the children of Summer could be very very stubborn. "I'll go say goodbye to Viviane and Kalias. You head home."
"If you insist" Tarquin said before winnowing away as fast as he could and Tamlin fought the urge to roll his eyes.
Tamlin walked out into the corridor but not before silencing the wretched fire with a wave of his hand.

what are your #anti sjm unpopular opinions? this side of the fandom is pretty similar in our opinions so i was wondering where you differ. asking this to a bunch of people btw.
Hi anon!!
So ik a lot of people especially Nesta stans hate Elain. But I actually really like her character just for the pure mystery of it. We don't know much about her so her character and all her actions remain open to interpretation. And also I like how she's not the typical girlboss™️ and actually embraces her feminine side. I hope sjm does not squash that to make her a warrior in her book. I am excited for her to find some purpose in the intellectual field. Also because she's Lucien's mate and he's my baby boy. The main reason I am waiting for her book is that we'll learn more about Lucien definitely and maybe get a side of Tamlins story too. Eris I'm sure will also make an appearance atleast maybe get more about his relationship with Lucien. So yes all interesting characters in the series are connected to her in some way so I think her book cud be possibly interesting only if Sjm doesn't manage to butcher it. atp m in this fandom only for TamTam and Lulu 🥰🥰❣️

nah but think abt it, there was absolutely no instance where tamlin did something to imply that he sees feyre as a trophy and that he expects her to be his trophy wife, someone to breed for him and be his arm candy?? it was literally all in her head literally, bc we see it all from her POV. meanwhile roughly a year later and that’s exactly what rhysand did to feyre, she’s pregnant, financially dependent on her husband and she has a shield around her?? so she’s physically and emotionally isolated, not to mention nearly dying bc her husband hid important medical information from her. and it’s all viewed in a positive light… brainwashed i tell ya.

People will salivate over book 1 Rhys and fetishize the way he SA feyre UTM (I'm honestly so tierd of all the fanarts and fics there are that pretend that it was hot, its so insensitive to SA victims) but get upset over Tamlin being unstable/full of rage after 50 years of someone trying to force him into sleeping with her against his will.
Honestly, Tamlin has a far more tragic back story than Rhys - and if he was dark haired with some cool, dark power, he'd be everybody's book boyfriend still
Mother blind to his father's character due to mating bond
Rhys says Tamlin's family is worse than the Vanserras
Joins a war band to escape family abuse
Does not want to be high lord in any way, shape, or form
Befriends Rhys (a true horror)
~for some unknown reason~ then passes info about Rhys' unarmed mother and sister to the wicked family he wants nothing to do with????? but that results in his own family's murders
in the same damn house that he is forced to live in as high lord
a woman that has known him SINCE HE WAS A CHILD wants to sleep with him despite repeated refusals (swap those genders and there would be far more outrage)
his best friend gets blinded for defending him
has to send his sentries out to die for him
they die and still can't break the curse because its not the right mortal so they're just dying in vain
amarantha/rhys send severed heads and faeries with wings chopped off (presumably for 50 years) to taunt him
she curses him to fall in love with a mortal knowing that he hated his family kept mortal slaves - then after 50 years he'd have to submit to amarantha's sexual advances anyway
he also has to perform in calanmai every year for the court that he didn't want to be high lord of
ends up falling for a mortal who hates him and watches his enemy sexually assault her every night
said enemy then coerces her into a magical deal which means he gets to steal her every month - and then doesn't take her for the first few months which was only to make tamlin more paranoid
I think people also forget that Tamlin is the Beast from Beauty and the Beast. That Feyre falls in love with him despite his anger because he can be soft and loving but has suffered for a long time. We can say he was retconned by sjm, but rhys did a really good job of making him more paranoid by not taking Feyre (and somehow going against the rules of their magical bond) which was partly why he was so scared to let her out of the house, because Rhys essentially could take her at any moment. In conclusion, fuck that guy.

Someone just told me the inner circle didn’t lock Nesta up, they just “put her in a house”
It’s like you’re saying “He didn’t murder her, he just stabbed her until she died”

Like idk kinda weird how the IC act like the only reason tamlin is alive is because Feyre is such a big hearted person so she forgave him and Rhys has self control and he is too tired to deal a territory that far south when most of the Inner Circle owe a life debt to Tamlin??? Like??
Tamlin saves Feyre from the Naga in book 1, then again at the end of the book, and then again in Hyberns Camp
There he saves Elain and Azriel's life too
Then at the end of acowar where he brings back Rhysand from the dead. Which imo he shouldn't have like let the sexual assaulter stay dead.
Then okay this might be a far stretch but when Cassian and Nesta are trespassing on his lands, they are there illegally, he says that he has every right to kill trespasser in his land which ofc he does and No, no matter how much Sjm says Cassian is the most powerful Illayrian he can't fight a High Lord and WIN if we are to go by everything established about High Lords throughout the series. So yes, Tamlin could have killed Casshole but he doesn't (maybe because that wud start a war? Because Rhys and all others wud get revenge? Or maybe he just doesn't care? But the point stands)
Now Nesta on the other hand, see the thing is she comes into his lands uninvited, and then proceeds to insult him (but I doubt he would actually be able to harm her considering she still has her powers )
So yeh the IC better pray he doesn't come arnd asking for repayment lolol

OKAY IMAGINE THIS PLOT FOR A BOOK
There are two sisters. The younger sister whose sweet, kind, lovely, well mannered and beloved. Everyone wants her. Everyone wants to spend time with her. Then there's the older sister who isn't afraid to speak her thoughts and isn't "traditionally" well mannered like the good sister
So the bad older sister who was going to end up alone is shacked to this man by her family who pulls crazy tricks in order to "tame her" i.e. rob her of her true nature and destroy everything that makes her who she is. One second he is her prince charming the next he says hurtful words to mess with her mind.
Use of mental manipulation, isolation, and physical punishment is used to tame this shrew so that she becomes obedient.
The story ends with the shrew turning into a socially acceptable young lady by changing everything about herself and resembling someone else entirely. The family loves her now that she is "tamed" and basically is ready to start a family of her own with her loving husband who she considers superior to herself like a good woman shud.
Now I basically described Taming Of The Shrew. By William Shakespeare. But it's also literally. A Court of Silver Flames by Sjm. 🤡🤡🤡🤡
Acosf is basically a rip-off of Taming of the Shrew with bad smut and falsely marketed healing journey.

I know that some people are taking calling out SJM's portrayal of Tamlin as excusing his abuse, but I don't believe that's any of our intentions. Rather than that, I feel as if we are just pointing out how sometimes the narrative twists some of his rather harmless actions and makes them out to be the worst of all. For example, when Feyre kept mentioning how she felt degraded by him for not being assigned a title that didn't even exist (and that she had no credentials for) - this was pushed so hard that almost every post when acomaf came out talked about it instead of how Tamlin physically hurt her. I remember so many Feysand stans claiming that they mostly disliked him for that reason, which in handsight makes sense because if they criticized him for being too controlling at times, they'd be forced to call out Rhysand's whole character.
Hi anon!!
I absolutely agree.
Tamlin's actions and abuse is always explained never justified unlike rhysie's.
They can't call Tamlin out on his actual abusive qualities without acknowledging rhysie's actions as abuse because they are one and the same thing. Hence they pull at the most trivial things just to villainize Tamlin while also saying rhysie is the best god damn feminist in this world.
It's actually so confusing
Rhysie is a feminist because he let feyre train (by putting her in danger again and again) and gave her the title of high lady (which doesn't even make sense because feyre is not considered rhysies equal in anyway, acosf was just further proof).
Tamlin is a misogynist because feyre assumed he wanted her to wear dresses and that wearing pants wud make a statement (for the last time bitch what statement?!?!?!) because wearing dresses is a sign of weak females who don't have any freedom or autonomy, explained to feyre why she won't be called a high lady when she said she didn't want to be called that, thought a ruthless, powerful, tyrant who sent heads in his front yard as a joke, kidnapped his fiancee, who funnily enough he SA for three months and did everything in his power to get her back.
In my opinion Tamlin's only mistakes which are all retcons btw (excluding some things because they totally go against things actually written in the previous books) were:
Continuing to keep company with Ianthee
Not letting feyre train and making decisions for her powers and body for his peace of mind (which sound familiar?? To a certain purple eyed bat's actions in a certain 700 page book??)
Locking feyre in the manor (also sound familiar to what a supposedly noble high lord and lady did to her own sister??)
Slut shaming her at the High Lords metting (which sound familiar to a certain infamous "intervention")
Tamlin not 'saving her from her darkness that was consuming her' doesn't count because Tamlin himself was mentally unstable and suffering from PTSD. if you have a broken leg you can't support another person with a broken leg srry.
Calamnai scene from book 1?? No one except sjm is to blame for that nonsense.. but if you put it irl, tamlin is drunk out of his mind with no sense of reality and feyre, knowing this, completely sober, willing goes near him and doesn't stop him when he tries to kiss her even when he made it perfectly clear that he doesn't want anything to happen between them?? But Put all that in the acotar world it's no one's fault accept sjm.
His magical outburst, I have explained this before and @/worldsnotsaid also wrote a gr8 explanation about it but that ... Wasn't exactly abuse... He doesn't do it with the intention of hurting feyre and gain control or power over her. His power isn't even directed at her. He almost hurts her and he is responsible for it but that can't be labelled abuse. I get how this can be a little questionable for some ppl but no I don't think tamlin physically abused feyre. Try to reverse the scenario, tamlin locks feyre into the manor, it brings up her trauma and she looses control of her magic and hurts all the ppl in that manor. Is it still abuse?? Tamlin abused her 100% and he also abused his sentries but the study scene isn't that.
I feel pity for the ppl who try to point out abusive qualities in Tamlin in book 1 thinking their fav author is so smart and put subtle signs only ture fans can understand. And not accept the fact that SJM got bored with tamlin and suddenly realised she gets hard for rhysie
In comparison to all that rhysie has:
SA feyre for THREE MONTHS
Twisted her bone
Made a bargain for his gain under duress
Licked her without permission
Kissed her without permission
Mind r*pped her
Read her personal thoughts and said it out loud for ppl to hear (which I don't get how it is any different from Tamlins actions in the HL meeting)
Gaslighted her while she was with Tamlin
Actually made her wear clothes she hated
Put her life in jeopardy repeatedly for his gain
Touched her inappropriately in front of ppl again with the pretense of it being a "mask"
Held crucial information about her body from her
Stripped her from the right to consider abortion by not telling the risks of pregnancy
Asked everyone in her family to not tell her either
Put a sheild around her to isolate her even from her family members
Removed the shield around enemies to have them scent her baby rich scent
Paraded her around like a trophy
Climaxed to the picture of his unborn child (not really relevant to what he did to feyre but still disgusting)
You tell me which is worst?

Just gonna jump in on ur post here :)
Not to mention the fact that Feyre actually says that she had "wanted him" even then. This line seriously implies that she had sexual desires for someone who was sexually assaulting her!! And in acomaf their past, her trauma is all used to build up sexual tension.
And in Acomaf it's mentioned multiple times "regardless of what he had done". Regardless. That damned word. You. Cannot. Disregard. Assualt. I made a post about it long ago too: this one
I mean it's ludicrous!! I feel so bad for Feyre's character. The way she is treated is revolting. The least our fearless, wild and brave Feyre of book 1 deserves is for her trauma to be acknowledged. Not disregarded.
I wouldn't even have minded the switch of love interests. Yep Feyre and Rhys had the potential to actually be a healthy wholesome couple but my question is if Sjm had planned for them to end up together all this while why did she include... That treatment and torment of Feyre at Rhysand's hands at all??? What was the reason?? Whatever it is I'm sure it's disgusting.
Am I insensitive if I say that Rhysand’s treatment of Feyre UTM feels like psychological torture? I was talking to someone on Reddit about it, and the more I think about it, the more I want to vomit. It’s actually so disgusting.
I’m gonna put this under a Read More ‘cause it’s actually kind of hard to think about, let alone imagine.
Imagine being drugged, stripped, and groped every night so deeply and thoroughly that you have to spend hours recovering each day. Imagine that everyone but you knows how you behaved, knows every inch of your body and laughed at your dignity being shredded apart while you had to sit by and do nothing. Imagine having to suffer through something like that not once but daily for WEEKS, months even.
I don’t remember just how many times Rhysand put her through that, but going through it more than once would have me demoralized. I’d give up after that. Feyre’s dignity, her pride, her boundaries were all forcefully taken from her at Rhysand’s hand and that honestly makes me want to vomit. And yet, she still managed to keep going. I cannot express how much that says about her character as a person, but also how terrible of a writer SJM is for forcing her through that then just IGNORING how that’d affect her mentally.
There’s something so dehumanizing about it, and the utter disrespect for Feyre’s character to be written as if it doesn’t matter at all in the next book.
I used to say that there could be redemption for Rhysand, at least in Feyre’s eyes, if done well. But I change my mind. This pathetic lowlife, this sorry excuse of a character, doesn’t deserve the ink wasted to print his disgusting scenes, let alone a fucking redemption when so many others would deserve SO MUCH MORE don’t even get an inch of sympathy.

Hiii yesss tysm I checked it out!!
Goodness the levels these people will stoop to!!
I mean how can u condone an artist for making such beautiful art!! I don't even like Rhysand but god that art made me so emotional!!! And that right there is the mark of a wonderful artist!!
Like srsly we owe so much to fan artists who spend time and energy to make these wonderful arts for free most of the time 💀💀💀
Which art are u talking about I am so confused lol.
Mads Schofield.
She has two pieces that the Stan we all despise and others are getting up in arms about. One is a portrait of Tamlin that has a caption describing Feyre painting the portrait to vent her feelings and then move on. The other is a picture of Rhys sitting on the edge of a bed with Amarantha's arm draped over his shoulder and only her legs and hair showing behind him. Its caption describes how Rhys' abuse was something that made him compelling and a stronger character. It's also said Amarantha wasn't punished harshly enough.
