"Just because you did the right thing by helping us doesn't absolve any of it."
"Any of what?"
"What humans did to me. To us."
"Im not expecting absolution, Lyall. I just wanted to help and do my part. I'm sorry that you had to suffer like that. I'm not expecting a thank you or a celebration. I just wanted to help."
"... I guess it wouldn't kill me to give you that."
Lyall Merrick was a man born to nothing but struggle.
Growing up in the slums of Mistral, Lyall and his family were indentured into servitude under the SDC. As a child, Lyall was branded as nothing but property by the Company. The harsh environment shaped the young wolf faunus, hardening him with a burning hatred of one thing - Humans. Lyall was only helpless to the SDC as they took everything from him, his family, his identity, his ability to hope.
And when Lyall broke free from the chains of the SDC, he left nothing behind. By escaping, Lyall went to the one group he knew he could retaliate - The White Fang. And the group welcomed him with open arms. Lyall rose through the ranks and helped carry out many attacks and operations to cripple the strangehold humanity had over Faunus kind. Sienna Khan's dreams of humanity fearing faunus would be achieved, there was no doubt in his mind. Through his time with the White Fang, Lyall came to be placed under the command of one Idina Kawaguchi, as well as working with Merletta Balasco and Alban Virtunen.
Come the fall of Beacon, Lyall's view of the White Fang and the world around him shifted. When split off, he followed Idina with a group of refugees out into the wilds of Sannas until settling in an abandoned military centre. There, they waited and waited, hoping that their distress signals would reach the Vale faction of The White Fang and come to rescue them.
But instead, they get four little huntsmen, one of whom is a faunus girl. Immediately, Lyall wanted to use them as bargaining with the Vacuo authorities to get into the kingdom, but what struck Lyall as the most surprising was when the four huntsmen - Rosi, Tanner, Birdie and Pierre, all willingly offered their help to guide the refugees to the Vacuo border. At first Lyall objected to the idea of letting a group of humans help them, but after finding himself outvoted, he caved in.
The journey itself was gruelling, but Lyall couldn't help but admit feeling... unusually more calm with the provided support. It killed him to think that humans weren't just what he saw growing up. Even with the presence of grimm trying to attack them, they still stayed, fought with them and protected them. They defended them when they came begging for sanctuary in Vacuo.
There is still a fire that burns in Lyall. A strong and undefeatable desire to right the wrongs that he and his fellow faunus have faced. But he sees people like Tanner Ackerman, a man born to priviledge at the cost of faunus lives, helping him out of pure want to help, and thinks that maybe the world isn't as out to get him as he thought it did...

"You've already found the people who bring out the best in you... Promise me you'll never leave them..."
Upon her departure from her team and friends, Rhea only had one objective in mind after her falling out - Return home to Vacuo, and rejoin her fellow Rose Pirates to resume the life she wanted. Rhea was sure she had been taught what she needed to know to be stronger, to be the queen of the sea, but upon the discovery of a small home in the middle of the woods, Rhea's life would change once more.
Oletta Anacardo was a woman that Rhea couldn't wrap her head around. First meeting the woman with a rifle between them, Oletta confusingly took in Rhea to shelter her. At first Rhea kept to herself, but was taken aback when despite recoginising her branding as a member of The Rose Pirates - the intricate tattoos adoring her right arm in a sleeve - Oletta served no ill or resentment to her. In Remnant, those with knowledge of the Rose Pirates are almost guaranteed to show hostility on sight. While the Rose Pirates enact their own form of justice outside of the government, they are labeled as criminals.
The truth is, Oletta is a woman who punished herself to a life of loneliness. Losing her husband, her three sons, and estranging herself from her remaining daughter, she sought to isolate herself in the middle of the Sannas forest. She was once a skilled and respected huntress, but now she is merely a shell of a woman. If there was anything Oletta could do, it was to just give Rhea one request - to not walk the path of loneliness.
Someone like Oletta proved almost too perfect of a person for somebody like Delaney Atlan. Rhea watched as Delaney made the offer - 2 million lien for her house. The last thing that Oletta held onto from her life. Even if Oletta defiantly told Delaney no, the businessman insisted, citing that the money could get Oletta out of the gutter and into a better life. And it was a tempting offer for Oletta. But Rhea convinced her to go back on that thought, citing that the house is not just a remnant of Oletta's failures, but her achievements too. She built a life in this house, even if it isn't what she wanted, it's a testament to how she has survived for so long despite everything.
The two women both knew that Delaney wouldn't take no for an answer though, and thus, they prepared to fight for what they had left. Deep down, Oletta was proud of Rhea, and she knew that Rhea was heading on the right path after all. When Delaney returned to make the final offer, his tactic of forceful removal upon no deal would be met by fierce resistance. The mercenaries that Delaney came with were quickly disposed of, but when Oletta came out to warn Delaney never to take what belongs to her - he had other plans. If he couldn't have Oletta's house, then she couldn't either.
With a quick shot, Delaney would ignite the gas cannisters, erupting the house into flames. And in the enusing confusion and chaos, Rhea would just manage to escape. All in a blur, she saw Delaney raise his gun, and shoot Oletta in the stomach. In Rhea's mind, if she fired the shot quicker, she could've saved her. Delaney got what he wanted, in a way. If he couldn't have what he wanted, then the next best thing he can do is cause as much pain as possible. The money was just gonna be wired back to him in the end.
As Rhea can only stay with Oletta as she dies, the older woman demands a promise to Rhea - to never walk the path alone. Rhea La Roja, the Red Bane, the orphan, never believed in destiny... But she learned that she cannot become what she wants to be if she is alone. Her family, her team, her friends, they are what made her who she is.

Decided to go ahead and redraw Team OPRA's volume 4 flourishes! It's been absolutely forever since i've drawn these and I wanted to make adjustments/revamp some of the designs. Please enjoy and I hope you like them!
Edit: I've already redrawn Team CRTN's volume 1 designs, so I think I might take the time to do some more tweaks of older designs or straight up redraw them. More volume 5 art will come soon though!

"Something Wicked This Way Comes..."
Nobody knew what sinister evils came to the Cobalt Family Manor before it was too late.
Only one survived, a young boy who escaped the wrath of a grimm who was once thought to only be of myth - one that can take the form of anything it has consumed.
Edwin swore he saw his mother's image within the monster's ungodly form.

I have made more mistakes than any man, woman or child. I wrote my fate in the blood of others. But before I die, All I want is to ensure that they don't follow the same path I did.
While Ophelia, Rhea, Albert, Edwin and Xerxes begin their travel west to find help in lieu of their disastrous journey to Atlas, Tanner, Rosi, Pierre and Birdie travel east. But during their journey, they are ambushed by a group of White Fang members after Tanner had led them into their territory foolishly believing that they would help them. But the intentions of these three are not what the group travelling ease would think.

“You want the whole story? I’ll give you it. This is me, this is The Bloody Rose.”
In the aftermath of The White Whale’s eventual crashing thanks to an unfortunate Grimm encounter, The OPRA Coalition now remain stranded on the beaches of Sannas with seemingly no way forward. But for Ophelia, that is seemingly no matter compared to what she has come to learn about her teammate.
Another secret to be kept, another lie upheld and for what purpose?
Rhea La Roja was a girl born to nothing. No parents and no home. Having grown in the orphanages left the girl disillusioned with the state of the kingdom of Vacuo. And while the guttersnipe orphans brought her some shelter, there was something that Rhea desired more than ever: Freedom.
And the rumor of The Rose Pirates ignited a fire in Rhea. It became a call to action for her. At the docks of Vacuo, Rhea waited and waited until finally the day arrived after almost giving up hope. And while her stowing away led her to almost being thrown overboard, Rhea was quickly adopted by the ship’s fearsome captain, Nicholas Blackbeard.
Now being granted the freedom she so desired, Rhea knew the next step was Haven, and while Nicholas was apprehensive to send his adopted daughter so far away, Rhea knew to hide herself from her true allegiance.
And thus the story comes full circle, but has now left a fracture in the relationship between Ophelia and Rhea, one that may not be able to be repaired.

I’m officially putting OPRA on hiatus until volume 9 releases
To be quite frank, i’ve just lost inspiration to draw art for OPRA’s story. This absolutely does not mean i’m going to be stopping OPRA for good, but for now, I just need to put the story on pause and hopefully return to it with a fresh batch of inspiration that i pray volume 9 will give me next year.
IN THE MEAN TIME! I’m going to be starting my reworking of @teammnlt so please stay tuned there! But i love y’all for sticking with this blog for this long. Again it’s not the end, just a little break.

“The world is scary and I have to protect it. If... If anything happens to me, don’t ever forget that I will always love you, baby. I will be part of you forever. I love you so much.”
Shortly before leaving for her mission to extract Volker Verre in Mantle, Ophelia recieves a long awaited gift she was supposed to be given on her 18th birthday before the fall and all the other chaos that had occured since then: A USB drive containing a much-important message from him and Estelle.
Now aboard The White Whale, a military-grade passenger ship heading straight for Argus, Ophelia tucked her way into the cargo hold to view the message by herself, to finally recieve some closure on something positive about her mom...
And in that message, Ophelia finally gets to witness her mother in life, to hear her voice as she and a younger Mario wish her a happy future 18th. But as Mario goes to tend to a crying infant ophelia away from the confines of the camera, Estelle takes the time to give Ophelia the truth... That she is a huntress, destined to fight against the evils of Remnant and there is a possibility she may not be able to see Ophelia do great, amazing things... But also to tell Ophelia that she will always love her and that she’ll always be with her.
And what is the twist of the knife is when Mario brings down an infant Ophelia for Estelle to tend to with a mother’s embrace. And as Estelle sings Ophelia a lullaby that brings back infant memories of the little time she spent with her, Ophelia finally recieves the closure she so desired... that a good woman, a wife, a warrior... A mother, was stolen from her... And as the video ends with Estelle and Mario wishing Ophelia all the best, Ophelia has a new desire ignited in her to honor everything her mother stood for.

“I had every reason to know he could be alive, Orsino. He might have answers to who killed Estelle!”
“I understand that, Xerxes, but you have to know that the walls of this kingdom have ears... Any information that could get out will spell danger for us...”
“Hah... So you didn’t trust me? Low blow, General... Your lucky that I want answers from him. Estelle wasn’t just your fellow knight... She was my teacher, too.”
The possibility of Volker Verre being alive after almost 17 years after his supposed ‘demise’ comes as a shock to everyone who knew him. And coupled with Erik being revealed to the world once more, it seems that the surprises keep coming. But for the likes of Ophelia and Xerxes, the possibility of Volker being alive sets them up with the opportunity to have their questions answered.
Henrietta Delacroix, along with Orsino Gladio, assign Team OPRA, Team CRTN and Xerxes Jazayeri a new mission. Now dubbed the Phantom Coalition, their new mission is to journey into the kingdoms of Atlas and Mantle to retrieve Volker Verre and return him to Illyria. What may seem like just whispers lead by an anonymous tip could now be crutial in unravelling the mysteries of Erik and Estelle.

In a bout where the strategist's bridges were burned! Where it seemed that his fortune had suddenly turned 'Twas the night that this scrapper was suddenly dapper And this poor fellow's heart was still going like the clappers! The night that the pugilist finally learned how to dance!
Mario Demoiselle was a man spurned to struggle in his youth. Growing up in the slums of Illyria, Mario fought his way through to support himself and his mother. This drive eventually led Mario into the pugilism scene, where he would brutally dual with other men like himself for money only using their fists as their weapons. And as Mario climbed the ranks, his skills began to be noticed by other forces. The Pinelli Crime Family had plans for the skilled fighter, and seeing this as a chance to rise from the dirt, Mario took on the job as one of their enforcers.
While serving the Pinelli crime family, Mario’s life would forever change its course through a chance encounter with one Estelle Beaumont. During a raid conducted by the Illyrian government, Estelle easily disposed of Mario and left the now former enforcer completely smitten. And after a bout of jail time, Mario sought to win her heart and show that he was a changed man. And what way to do that through the art of dance.
It was almost a harder task than some of the fights that Mario has endured, but with a desire to meet the girl again, he learned as if he was in a fight. And with this new skill, he approached Estelle Beaumont again with a desire to win her over... And the rest is history.
Now with Raoul engaged to his daughter, Mario’s memories of Estelle come back to him. Even with his wife gone, all he wants is for the last remnant of her, Ophelia, to be happy. And with Raoul, Mario believes that his wish will come true.

“All of these fragments of my mother just sitting here... It makes me realize that I knew nothing about who she was.”
In the aftermath of the final confrontation with The Phantom, Ophelia was left with more questions than answers and most importantly: how The Phantom... or Erik could possibly know her.
But with the revelation that Erik and Estelle were once part of the same team in their tenures as huntsmen, there is a drive in her to figure out who not only her mother was, but who erik was. And while searching for answers with Birdie, Ophelia comes across a photo of her mother and her team at Beacon: Team VERE. Volker Verre, Estelle Demoiselle, Rhodes Katsaros... and Erik Vadjot.
It confronts Ophelia with something deep within her. Is her mother an entirely different person to what she thought she was? What happened with Team VERE? And more importantly... Why did Erik survive? But now armed with this desire to find the truth, there is a fire in Ophelia, one that pushes her to discover the truth.
Even if it hurts her.
