Oh my God, I love your analysis work. I had almost forgotten about it since it's unfortunately been so long and since my life's been nuts since 2015. I've followed you for so long and didn't realize the new handle was you since I only came back to the Fandom. Your work always scratched my historical analysis brain in such a compelling way (sorry ik that wording is awkward). I always miss the analytics side of this Fandom, so it's nice to see it again. The most terrifying part here is that as there is no representation on Hungarian TV or social media, there is no normalization of queer relationships and that can affect generations to come. Literally the only way we can educate ourselves is to do our own research on the internet (or bump into Larry and have all your beliefs shaken in the best way).

But tell me how will young people be even encouraged to dig when its very upbringing makes everything about men-women, calls family only when it’s a mom and dad combination and when you’re a handsome baby boy then what they say is he’ll break a lot of girls’ hearts and when an adult man says I like you to his friend then he immediately instinctively adds but not that way (as if anyone was recording it) and I see the effects on my kid too. She’s 11 so she can still learn, but she was brought up by us very liberally but she still says “I know I know (that queer relationships exist and can be happy and super normal) but it’s still weird”. And it breaks my heart because of course it’s weird for her, when even the tapwater dictates pro-hetero beliefs, and there is no education, (in fact any queer content is banned officially at schools for kids - govnmt calls it the pedophile law 😡) there is no representation in front of her which would normalize queerness. They cannot even open up Heartstopper at a book store and take a sneak peek for god’s sake, because it’s wrapped up in ugly cellophane with visible queer stamp on it and 18+ warning. So I’m asking what the hell will happen to the future generations here?

And the cycle won’t break itself. That’s why it’s important to talk-talk & talk and educate endlessly, go out in the world, show pictures and explore, even if it’s “just” for a concert at the Budapest Aréna, but that is where clothing, colors, hair styles, rainbows, and all queer things can be seen, and normalized so that she gets it that it’s okay, that this is normal, and they should be supported and she should never judge.

You have to know guys that the Hungarian government is doing everything in their power to repress the LGBTQIA+ community, it’s not like jail time is given but people are consistently brought up with the information that being hetero is the right thing and having male-female couple is the right thing and anything else is wrong, we grow up with the tv/radio commenting and joking and being in instant denial “oh I’m not gay don’t worry”, they make fun of drags, and men wearing mascara, nail polish, anything out of their comfort zone is a blasphemy and I’m telling you they are legit afraid of the rainbow flags, they associate pedophiles with gays, they fine bookstores for not having such innocent books as Heartstopper wrapped in cellophane, it’s really bonkers and an absolute horror to be an LGBTQIA+ member in Hungary today.

I cannot express how proud I am of all those people who brought flags to Louis’ Budapest show tonight and held them out in the open street and participated in rainbow projects. We all saw you! All the power to you!
