Total loss leased vehicle question
I was involved in an accident where I wasn’t at fault but my leased vehicle was totaled. The car that I have leased was valued significantly higher than what I owe on the vehicle for a buy out.
They(my insurance company) valued the car at 35k and I owe 25k to buy it out entirely. Will I receive the 10k or does the manufacture(toyota) retain it since they’re the technical owner of the vehicle?

(California) I was rear ended and only have liability insurance. USAA says they’re not claiming responsibility because it was a lane change collision.
I was rear ended a few seconds after switching lanes. Their insured driver is claiming that she only hit the left side of my rear bumper when I tried switching into her lane but I’ve attached pictures of the damage to my car.
USAA made this decision before reaching out to me or receiving any pictures, but after i sent them they said it did not change their decision because the driver said it didn’t happen that way. I just don’t understand because in the pictures it is clear the damage is not to the rear left bumper of my car?
What do i do from here? Do i file a complaint with the California Department of Insurance? Im a 23(F) and this is the first time I’ve been rear ended.
If it also means anything, the driver who hit me was not the person named on the claim, it was her mom.

The insurance company I used to work for just fired a bunch of people.
There was a massive layoff at an insurance company I used to work at. As of right now, about 10% of the workforce was fired for "not meeting standards." The people they let go were never warned about not meeting them, they were never written up, and some of them had a reputation of being some of the best at their job. Ironically, there were people that *had* write ups for poor work that were not let go.
I made a throwaway account for their privacy, and I can't say what the name of it is, but it's a newer publicly traded company. I'll call it Generic Insurance.
I started working there years ago when it was extremely small and only worked there about 1.5 years. I've had previous insurance experience and I was hopeful about this company. Eventually I learned that I needed to run away and do it fast. There are so many practices for this company that made me and a lot of other seasoned people feel scared we'd lose our license or even our job. What's more is there is such an extreme lack of support for the departments that directly interacted with customers. When these concerns would be voiced, the response was akin to "you're overreacting," "prove it" or "sorry were too busy to fix that" before announcing stuff like "we've been working hard on making a new font for the software :)" People started to drown in work, then people who were experienced and good at their job left, making more work. They tried to deal with it by throwing us parties or mailing us gift baskets but it felt like a Band-Aid on a dam. When they were audited and the results showed a huge list of issues, no one was surprised and a lot of the issues listed were ones employees told upper management about long before. Morale started to decline.
I was able to quickly find a new job where I was getting paid way more, had more resources available, and employees that delt with customers on the daily were actually listened to. It's a night and day difference. They don't repeat mantras like "we're family" or "were different from other insurance companies!" They don't have parties, and don't mail me random gifts yet I've felt more comfortable and safer here than at Generic Insurance.
I'm mad that many of the people I care about, got to know, and made great friends with were so easily tossed aside but at the same time the writing was on the wall and it was the reason I left. They value themselves on being "different" but a layoff like this is the same as ones so many other insurance companies have done in the past in times of financial strain. It feels like its all a facade.
Insurance jobs are already hard enough without this kind of toxic crap.

I significantly scratched my leased car - should I pay out of pocket?
I recently scratched my leased Audi, and it, unfortunately, touches on 4 different sections of the car body. A local autobody shop quoted the repair at $2290 plus tax (in Ontario). I'm assuming the dealership repair quote would be much higher. Does anyone have an idea of how much this may impact my car insurance premiums, and for how long, if I went through insurance instead of paying out of pocket?
Thank you for your help!

Car total loss, asked to sign release for check payment
Will there be a case where I sign it and do not receive a payment? How can I make sure that I get the check payment?
And how is the total loss title going to affect my car if I want to sell it?
Or can I fix it and continue drive it, how will it affect my insurance?

I rear ended someone in NJ 9 months ago.
Hey all, I just have a question that hopefully someone can help me with so I can sleep at night.
I caused an accident almost 9 months ago, it was me and two other vehicles.
This is the report
DRIVER #1 STATED IN EFFECT: I WAS DRIVING NOT REALLY PAYING ATTENTION AND ENDED UP HITTING HER.
DRIVER #2 STATED IN EFFECT: I WAS TRYING TO TURN, WHEN I SAW THE WHITE TRUCK COMING UP BEHIND ME NOT SLOWING DOWN, THEN HE HIT ME INTO THE LANE AND THE OTHER CAR HIT ME.
DRIVER #3 STATED IN EFFECT: I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT WHEN A CAR GOT HIT FROM BEHIND AND PUSHED INTO MY LANE.
I’m driver # 1 (that’s not what I told the cop, I took a double take at a vehicle at the other end of the intersection, I looked forward and slammed on the brakes but it was too late) regardless it doesn’t much matter in this situation I don’t think.
Driver #3’s insurance has already settled the issue.
Driver #2 how ever I have yet to hear anything from. They did get checked out at the hospital, though But there was no visible trauma, blood, broken bones, etc. hopefully they are ok and going in about their life.
The kicker is that I had the state minimum insurance, yes I’m a F#%*’$ idiot. I was young when I had the policy and never changed it just renewed the policy when needed.
My coverage is 5k liability and 15k bodily injury. I have since changed it to 100k and 300k, once I realized how this was going to impact my life.
Driver #2 has geico, but I have yet to hear from their agent, and my insurance has yet to hear anything either.
I understand the statue of limitation is 2years, but shouldn’t their insurance at least be in contact with me/my insurance?
Is their anything I can do to find out the current info? I have been trying to save every penny I can to prepare for the worst. At first I thought possibly covid had the insurance companies tied up and it was going to be slow, but is 9 months a bit of a stretch?
I’m having nightmares of a 500,000 k lawsuit. I haven’t even made that much in my life time. I understand it’s the consequences of my own actions, but I’m sick to my stomach every time I think about it.

Rebuild value for home insurance increasing 31%
My insurance broker informed me the insurance company will want to increase my home rebuild value by 31% on my renewal, which I should receive in May. I know cost of materials and other things are making home insurance premiums go up. Is it worth it to start shopping around now, or wait to see what my new premium will be? I guess I'm asking should I be prepared with competing quotes when I actually get the renewal, or should I wait and talk to the broker when I get the renewal?

Denied Diminished Value. Any other options?
"Per the team, as your vehicle was repaired to pre-accident condition, including the use of OEM parts, your claim for Inherent Diminished Value has been denied. If you have any documentation to support the claim, you can provide it to me and I can forward it to the team but for now that’s the result."
Vehicle in question is a 2021 Mazda CX-5, 11,000 miles with $2600 worth of rear bumper/liftgate damage which has been repaired. Am I beating a dead horse here trying to get value for the depreciation of the trade value now that an accident is on the Carfax ?
Thank you

Life Insurance exam only - NY and how hard is it? Kaplan materials
When I was studying, I couldn’t find a thread that talked only about the life insurance exam, so here are my thoughts on the journey.
I chose Kaplan to get the 20 hours required. It was virtual and you really don’t need to pay any attention. The instructor just speaks a bunch of nonsense. I say just do the hours and self-study with the materials.
You should read both books the package comes with to prepare for the exam. I did the class last May in 2021. Started studying this week in 2022. I just made sure to pass the Kaplan requirement for the course which includes hours studies and an exam I think. I knew I wasn’t going to take the exam before my Kaplan subscription expires, so I just took photos of the practice questions. This was a bit difficult because I didn’t have the correct answers. It only worked because my brother in law knows all things insurance so he was able to tell me the correct answer for questions I was unsure about. This is my schedule:
Saturday (read chapters 1-3) Sunday (read chapters 4-11)
I took notes on all chapters except the group life insurance chapter. It was a short chapter and everything seemed self explanatory so I didn’t spend much time there.
Monday (read the regulation/law book portion with the notes). Took no notes. Again it was sorta self explanatory and the beginning of the book is literally notes, so I didn’t take notes on notes.
Tuesday - I finished reading the regulation/law book. This time the detailed section.
Wednesday - did the first set of questions from Kaplan. Think it was like 50 questions. Was freaking out because questions are much trickier than I thought.
Thursday - did the other set of practice questions. This was about 75 questions. Still freaked out. Remember I didn’t have the answers so I needed to trust my gut, Google stuff, look through old notes, and ask my brother in law to confirm if the answers were correct. I was worried about the exam and didn’t sleep well the past couple of days so I meditated before I went to sleep and also when I woke up. It definitely helped calm my nerves!
Friday - exam day. I get in there at 12:30 and leave by 1:30. I got a 78. Close call, but I passed!
Hopefully my journey helps you in passing the exam and getting certified. Good luck!

Field claims adjusters! Driving records! Please read.
Hello! Doing some research and I cannot find many answers on it.
I have applied to be a field claims adjuster. This position provides a company vehicle and requires driving to inspect properties. Applying was successful and companies are reaching out to interview.
Many companies are requiring a clean driving record. I got a DUI lowered to a negligence 1 in WA state 5+ years ago. I found out that my suspension from said violation will stay on my record for life. I haven’t gotten into anymore trouble after this incident.
Do insurance companies see through old-ish DUIS? I completed drug/alcohol treatment and have been driving for 5+ years with other companies (not insurance related companies) and no issues.

Auto accident - my car parked (not present) - other driver 100% at fault - "total loss" - options?
My vehicle (older, liability coverage only) was parked on side of road, struck by another vehicle at low speed. This caused cosmetic damage (dent, broken tail light, scraped paint).
The driver's insurance company is saying the total cost to repair exceeds car's value. This seems understandable - it's 20+ years old high mileage, but still fully drivable.
Everything I'm reading is talking about this turning into having to accept that determination and if I do it gets reported to the state and turns into some sort of salvage title or similar. This is obviously not acceptable to me. (Doesn't matter to me if the cars "book" value is $500 if it would cost me several thousand to obtain a suitable replacement, especially when I certainly wouldn't throw the vehicle away if I did the same damage to it myself, especially since I've put more than the value of the vehicle into it in past few years with AC/bedliner/etc.)
It seems like there needs to be a middle ground where they have to pay me for the damage they caused and not cause _further damage_ to me from the entire vehicle being taken/having title messed up/etc.
I have not spoken to the other driver's insurance company at this point, this is purely an electronic statement from them after photos and their evaluation of the damage.
What are my options?

I'm a Bodily Injury adjuster, AMA
I've been an auto bodily injury and liability adjuster for 15 years. If you have any general questions, have an open claim and need assistance with all our part of that, or just curious about something that may have happened in a prior claim the line is open!

How do you switch insurance (plus more)?
I have IL medicaid and am potentially moving to Iowa. For reference, it's about a 5 minute drive from where I am now. I fill my prescriptions in Iowa and my counselor is in Iowa. My medical doctor and rheumatologist are in IL though. I don't know how to go about this. I live with my parents right now but am going to be moving out. Can somebody help point me in the right direction or explain to me how to go about this? If I don't update my address yet and act as if I'm still in IL, that's fraud, right? I'm not doing that if it's fraud. Is there a way to file a report and transfer my medicaid from one state to another?

My condo insurance deductible went from 100k to 250k in a year.
I live in Richmond in BC. My condo's deductible just went from 100k to 250k that means I went from paying 800 bucks a year to over 2k a year....This was a first apartment me and my gf ever got into and is shocked. This building is 14 years old by now and we live on the 8th floor. Reddit experts, would you or would you not purchase the full amount? Is there a better way to go about this?
Thank you.

House purchased a year ago. Hail damage on siding just noted by chimney inspector. It wasn’t noted on my home inspection. Hailed once this winter. Should I file a claim? Worth it?
We purchased a home a year ago. We never noticed any hail damage on one side of our home. This was never noted by our inspector either.
We had some chimney work being done. The laborer said, “Hey if you want me to replace that siding due to the hail damage, I do that on the side.” We noticed 30-40 dings on one side of our home. When we look at it from a certain angle. Straight on, you can’t tell.
The siding is 30 years old. It will be impossible to find a match.
Should we ask somebody to come out? I don’t want to jump and call my insurance, but should I at least call an independent adjuster? Will they be able to tell me what I should do?
Thanks.

Can/Should I enroll my newborn to my HSA insurance (qualified high-deductible health plan)?
He's currently enrolled on my wife's PPO plan as it's quite comprehensive.
It's enrolment time at my company and I found out that my employer contributes the maximum allowed to my HSA (3,650 individual/7,300 family). Ideally I would like to take advantage of those extra 3,650, but we have two main concerns.
1) Is that even allowed. I see there's restrictions on using FSA and HSA accounts at the same time. But I couldn't figure out if that's equivalent to having a PPO and and HSA.
2) Due to the birthday rule. My insurance would be primary. Would it make sense to have the insurance we actually pay for (the PPO) as secondary? Would this be a pain to use in practice? or is it just a matter of putting both of the insurance details with my health providers, and they'd deal with everything behind the scenes and I shouldn't see any additional cost Vs simply using the PPO as we are doing right now.
Thanks a lot for any answers.
