I just wanted to post saying that on September 14, 2021 Finnegan was put down. He had a bladder stone adhere to his body in an inoperable position. Due to the fact that Guinea pigs are unable to naturally pass stones and he was in immense pain the decision was made to let him go. The Veterinarian team did everything they could to get the stone to move to a better position and they kept him comfortable while I spent the last couple hours with him. We had a little piggie picnic so Finn and I could spend one last meal together. He got to feast on all of his favorite snacks and have as much treats as he wanted. I’m confident that Finn enjoyed the time. The staff even mentioned that he seemed much more relaxed the second he got up onto my lap.

It took me a while but I do have a new ESA. That being said I believe it’s time to let this blog go. I know I rarely posted to begin with but I just can’t see doing it without Finnegan. There will be no further updates but I will leave it up just incase it can help someone.

Sometimes I forget just how big of a guinea pig Finnegan is. Here he is getting to see his sister Mimi for a bit and he absolutely makes her look tiny. She even feels like she weighs nothing compared to him.

Mimi turns 5 in November so she still has energy and is super active and playful while simultaneously not taking any of Finnegan’s shit. As a result he’s much less aggressive and bossy with her. I’m hoping that after I graduate and can stay in the same place that I can get the two to bond with each other and share a cage.

Mimi was actually supposed to be my ESA but due to the fact she was more guinea pig oriented and not very people oriented I went out and found Finnegan! The two have very limited contact for now since Finnegan isn’t neutered. But that’s on the list to take care of as well!

Happy pride month!!!

Been away from Finnegan for almost a month. I’m in the process of moving again and with all the work to be done plus his paperwork needing checked over he just hasn’t been able to be here. But, this Friday he finally gets to come home!

My partner and I have noticed huge changes in me since Finnegan and I have been separated. I’m mindlessly staring off more, performing a lot more self soothing/stimulating behaviors, I’ve been on edge and generally anxious almost consistently (especially at night), I have been experiencing sudden plummets in my mood, and the biggest has been my confidence. While I consider myself to be fairly independent, sometimes that includes not asking for help when it’s needed. For example, if I can’t find or reach something I need at the store, I just won’t get it. When I have Finn to come home to, more often than not I find it easier to ask for assistance.

So I’m excited to have my boy back with me and start to feel normal again! And he’s gonna get upgrades to his cage as soon as I have the money!

Finnegan gets boredom breakers quite often since I’m often gone most of the day to attend class. This is one of his favorites. Not only is this cube his favorite chew toy but I’ll shove it full of treats and gay and it keeps him busy for hours. If I’m having a particularly rough day too I’ll give this to him just to watch him throw it about because it’s funny and always makes me laugh.

Last night/This morning was rough for both Finnegan and I.

Around 8:00 pm the fire alarm went off in the dorms. I didn’t have time to assemble Finn’s carrier so I scooped him up in his cuddle sack, grabbed his tags and everything else I needed as well as a blanket to keep us warm and left. Fire trucks showed up and a squad of firemen suited up and went into the building. We were outside for roughly 30 minutes. We got back inside and Finnegan and I eventually got settled enough to fall asleep. I was still on edge so it took me a while but when I fell asleep I was DEEP in sleep. Fast forward to 5:00 am. Fire alarm is set off again and the hallway and staircase are very smokey. Same thing as before, I didn’t think to assemble the carrier because I thought people would be more careful tonight so I just scooped Finnegan up same as before and take the same items out with me. This time it’s raining. Finn and I eventually got let back in and we have both been on edge and unable to settle since. Finnegan won’t leave my side and chews on the cage until I come back to him so we resorted to laying in bed together seeing as I definitely won’t be sleeping the rest of the night.

I have a lot of down time this semester which is good because I shouldn’t get overwhelmed with coursework but bad because I need to keep busy or else my anxiety and depression get worse. So hopefully this works!
