begging queer kids to read up on princess diana’s involvement with the community. yes, she was a rich, pretty monarch. yes, she died young.

but the reason why queer people love her is because she used her privilege during the aids crisis to advocate for sick queer men, when very few others would - much less someone of her status.

diana spent years advocating for the health and care of queer people with hiv/aids. in 1987, at the height of the epidemic, she opened the first specialist clinic dedicated to treating aids patients (the first clinic of it’s kind in the uk).

she also fought public hysteria by hugging and shaking bare hands with aids patients, at a time when aids was thought to be spread by skin to skin contact. not only that, she visited patients in the clinic regularly and even comforted them through their sickness.

and when queen elizabeth told her to try focusing on “something more pleasant”?

diana ignored her and kept fighting.

and this is only her work towards the aids crisis. she publicly called out the royal family, brought attention to numerous world issues, and was known as an advocate for empathy and kindness. she’s known and loved as the people’s princess for good reason

Do you ever think about how Tolkien’s vision of the greatest evil in the universe was something he referred to as “The Machine” which was his way of talking about accelerated industrialism and mass surveillance and he wrote multiple books where the main villains were a dragon who sits on a huge pile of treasure that he never intends to use but incinerates anyone who comes near it, a man in a giant tower who’s wrecking the environment with his factories, and an evil being who uses what’s essentially a listening device to control the citizens of middle earth. And now Amazon is making a Tolkien show. Do you ever think about that.

I've been buying lots of more feminine clothes recently! Finally getting out of my t-shirt + jeans era!

Got a bunch of crop tops, some skirts, shorts, slim fitting V-necks. The amount of clothing variety marketed to women is always mindblowing compared to what is marketed for men!

Here's a pic of one new at home fit. Most important thing for me is comfort and convenience otherwise I'll never actually wear the clothes. Fuck anything without pockets. (I've been looking for good skirts with real pockets for ages and not found many, pls share good ones) (honestly pls share any cool outfit ideas in general! Thanks!)

I know we joke about the whole “[streamer] can’t love you” copypasta, but watching Techno’s father read his letter and talk about what went on in his final days, I can’t find words to express just how much that isn’t true.

Everything Techno did, everything he said, was oozing with nothing but love for his community. Techno was never afraid to tell his community just how much he cared, he never hesitated to say what we meant to him or how proud he was of us.

So I don’t think it’s wrong to say Techno loved us, and I don’t think it’s wrong to admit that we loved him. Maybe not personally, maybe not intimately, but love isn’t defined by intimacy. Love doesn’t have much of a definition at all, really.

So don’t be too worried about being “weird” or cringy or parasocial about this, okay? The passing of a loved one is incredibly difficult to handle, and Techno loved us every way he was capable. There’s no need to be ashamed of how you grieve someone you loved.

Techno was one of the first streamers I watched, and the very first YouTuber I was a fan of. Very quickly, all of his content became a comfort to me. I watched him when I was crying and upset, and I watched him when I was having the best day ever.

I didn’t think about the possibility that he wouldn’t be ok. When he made the first video, it was a shock, but everyone assured each other that he would be fine. It doesn’t feel real. Even though I obviously didn’t know him personally, I’m just sad that he’s not gonna be around.

Even when he didn’t upload, or interact online, or show up on other’s streams for a long time, it was just nice to know that he was somewhere. Doing whatever. It was comforting, and also made me even more excited for when he popped up somewhere.

When he shared the information about his diagnosis, he kept everything light. He topped off some world shaking news with a little sarcasm. He even managed to do the same with his final goodbye.

I hope his loved ones are able to grieve however they may in peace, and at the pace they need.

We’re gonna miss you Techno.

The case for sharks in Minecraft

Mojang has reportedly said that "realistic" sharks will not be included in Minecraft because hostile mobs have to be imaginary creatures. Sure! That makes sense! But listen...there's an obvious solution.

DON'T MAKE SHARKS HOSTILE MOBS

They don't have to be bloodthirsty enemies and assuming so is to unnecessarily demonize an animal that is an essential part of the ecosystem.

Instead, make them neutral mobs. They will attack only if you're holding meat or rotten flesh in your hand, or if you get REALLY close to one, and they generally avoid the player so it's on you if you try to harass the shark.

Here are some other things sharks could do that are based on reality:

Sharks have been found with all sorts of junk in their stomachs. So, you should be able to throw a shark a potion (either a weakness potion or a new one) and make them cough up a variety of junk, including bones, tridents, potentially enchanted books, tools, or....a live chicken.

If you row directly above a shark in a boat, it might bite your boat and cause it to drop as an item.

If a shark bites a hard block like stone, iron, obsidian etc. it will drop shark teeth

Finally: Sharks attack Drowned. The Drowned are made of rotting flesh! A shark would smell that and be drawn to it. So you'd want to have them around to keep the Drowned population down

Instead of assuming sharks would have to be hostile, create gameplay that shows them as creatures that have the right to exist and rewards the player for respecting them
