“Tiger dog?! You can talk?!” Ace couldn’t believe what he heard. He had been so happy to see the strange dog, but before he could greet him he spoke.

Ace nodded his head, watching as the blonde left the room and gently laid his forehead against the door and let out a deep sigh. There was so much going on and he had no idea what he was going to do, but he would have to force himself through this and see where it went. He hated this feeling of guilt and disgust that had over taken his entire life.
He looked over to the tray of food that had been brought, finally walking over to the desk and pulling out the chair, sitting down to finally put some food into his stomach.
The food was actually really good, or maybe he was just really hungry, both could be valid reasons. Whatever the reason he finished eating the meal and then gathered up the dishes and made his way towards the kitchen so he could wash it and thank Cory for the food properly.

Time began to blend together at this point, Ace wasn’t even sure how long he had sat there in his bedroom, not moving from his spot.
There’s a heaviness over the entire ship and I don’t even know how to begin removing it.
Ace had been left with his thoughts the entire time, staring at the wall or the floor as his mind reeled with both logical answers, and self deprecating ones. If ever the old tale of two wolves fighting within you was true, Ace could feel the battling in his very soul and it simply left the ex-commander feeling tired and lost. He had come onto the ship, and although not the Captain he was one of the most seasoned members there, he should be helping them not harming them.
And for awhile that had happened. His thoughts were filled with Kyle’s smiling face when they trained, watching the crew talk and laugh, even doing chores had been such a comforting and familiar feeling.
Yet it all went to shit in a blink of an eye...
Ace ran his fingers through his hair, grabbing a handful of it in his fists and doubling over, gritting his teeth so hard together he thought they would have broken beneath the force of his bite.
He was lost, he was scared and Ace didn’t know what to do, for the first time in his life he had no idea what to do and Ace felt like he was drowning beneath the waves of nightmares that never let him go.
Ace was snapped from his thoughts at the knock of the door, and before he could even turn them away or tell them to come in, they opened the door and walked in. Dark eyes stared at Cory as he felt his throat tighten and he looked down at the tray of food that had been brought in. Ace hadn’t even felt hunger, his turmoil masking the need of his body for anything else and he just looked away then.
“Thanks...just put it over there,” he gestured towards the writing desk as his gaze when back to the floor. Cory was here now, there was no real privacy here, the crew would enter regardless. “How is she?” Ace finally asked the other man quietly.

Her lips were soft against the back of his hand and his dark gaze softened slightly. “I know you’re right...but even if you were the strongest woman on the sea, I’d still worry about you...that’s what couples do...right?” He asked as he leaned forward, giving her a soft and gentle kiss.
"Ace, don't look at me like that. This sort of thing happens when you are a pirate, you know that." Noah smiled softly as she raised from the bed, wincing in pain from the bandages around her stomach and leg. They got attacked and while they won, Noah got hurt a little. It wasn't anything major but she needed time to recover. "Don't blame yourself, I'll be alright soon enough." She knew he was probably thinking negitive thoughts about himself so she needed to nip that in the bud.
Tumblr media
The battle hadn’t been particularly hard, it was just difficult to keep eyes on so many people, especially when Noah insisted on fighting, and he wasn’t going to stop her, he had no right to but that didn’t ease his worry. “If I had been more careful you wouldn’t have gotten as badly hurt though!”

This is, in a sense, a goodbye... The thought was not a comfort to Ace, just another stark reminder that things could never be what they once were.
“Rayleigh does work you hard to get a handle on things...but I’m pretty sure Luffy has a better grasp of Haki than even me,” Ace said with a small smile crossing his face. He was proud of his little brother, nothing was going to change that. “He’s going to change the world, and there isn’t going to be anyone who can get in his way to stop him.” At the mentioning of sparring, what was meant to be a light hearted comment was only met with a sad smile.
“It won’t be the same as before,” he warned her gently. “I can’t do everything I once could do.”

Ace was just glad to hear Ikkaku laugh, to see her smile and he had to admit he selfishly wanted more of it, probably because he missed the sound of laughter ringing through the air.
“Law sounds a lot more like Luffy than he probably would care to admit,” he chuckled. “To be fair, I wouldn’t dare say that to his face...I get this sinking suspicion that he would take that as an insult and I don’t really want to piss off a guy who stuffed my insides back in me.”
Ace let out a soft sigh before he gave Ikkaku’s shoulder a tight and reassuring squeeze. There was something in her embrace that told Ace that she wanted this too.
"I don’t know if they had more self-preservation,” Ace said with a small chuckle. “They followed me blindly into battle more times than not.”
A small frown crossed his face as his grip tightened on her a little. He did wonder what happened to them, and the rest of his brothers from the Moby Dick but Ace would be content just hearing about that in rumors. They had taken so many loses, from Pops to another clash with Blackbeard, nothing but pain had fallen on them all because they had gotten involved with Ace...with the son of the devil.
“Your old job?” Ace decided, instead of dwelling on his misery, he would jump at the new topic. “What was your old job?”

“If you really want to, I don’t think Gramps would mind a visit,” Ikkaku said. Ace was far too good to set so much as a foot on Joras’ rocky shore, but the thought of him meeting the old man did warm her heart a bit. Could do them both good, to have someone to talk to about Whitebeard together. “I hope you like dogs, though; Neptune’s about the size of a small bear and if he likes you, you’ll have over two hundred pounds of hairy monster knocking you to the floor so he can slobber on your face.”
She was positive he’d love Ace; the big black dog always enjoyed curling up by the fire on cold, wet days, which accounted for most of the year. She could easily imagine him just sprawling across the Devil Fruit user, basking in the heat he naturally produced. Hell, Ace could possibly cozy up the whole island with his powers.
For now, she enjoyed hogging that warmth to herself, cuddling up closer and resting her head on his shoulder. Her boiler suit was good for chilly nights, but she certainly didn’t mind having him around as her personal space heater.
“As for Gramps...yeah. He is pretty cool. More than a little crazy, though, but in a good way. The kind where you’re never sure if he’s exaggerating the shit he ran into on the Grand Line or not.” She gave an affectionate grin. To her amazement, so many of the wilder one had been true. Like sailing up a mountain to get to the Grand Line, or fish the size of islands.
It was a scary, weird place, but she loved her life sailing it. No regrets.
A shocked laugh escaped her throat at Ace’s next statement. “Commander? Hell no! I may be bossy, but I’m not sure I want that kind of responsibility. If it’s anything like being captain, I’ll be buried in paperwork for days! You’ll never see me again,” she joked.

To hear those three words from someone Ace respected so much was jarring at first, shocking the young commander and bringing him to the realization that Thatch was not doing well, and that made the freckled man even more protective of him. Strong arms wrap around Thatch’s form and he held the other as tightly as he could, as if the embrace alone could keep the pain away.
Slowly, Ace’s hand gently moved up and down Thatch’s back, whispering comforting words softly in his ear. “I’ve got you...and I’m not letting you go, I promise.”
Ace simply held Thatch then, letting him cry and get everything out, it was the best way to encourage him to recover from the stress and hurt of how he was feeling. “We’ve got this...you’ve got me in your corner, and the darkness can’t defeat the light...” he said with a bright grin. “Come on...let’s wash your face and get you your favorite snack this time!”
@my-muses-in-op continued from here
Ace listened to his friend, watching as the fear the cook felt was voiced into words and spoken into reality, and he saw how deeply they affected him, enough that it had caused Thatch to change his entire personality in hopes of dealing with it by himself.
There was no doubt that Thatch was scared, and that it was taking a lot of effort for the cook to talk to him and Ace could see it, could see the fear in his eyes. Thatch was one of the bravest men the young commander had ever known, he put so much on his shoulders that it wasn’t even funny. Which reminded Ace how much Thatch and Marco were alike, always putting the weight on their shoulders and never wishing to share the burden with anyone else. Though, that was what a family was for, wasn’t it? That they would share the burdens with each other?
“I know you Thatch, you wouldn’t use your powers to hurt any of us...no matter how this devil fruit makes you feel!”
Ace was thoughtful for a moment before tightening his grip on Thatch’s hands. “Then...let me help you get control of it...hell, you can use me if any thoughts come across your mind...let the light of my fire push back any of your darkness.”

Ace looked to Noah then, offering her a small smile. Her unwavering confidence was something that helped to ease his uncertainty. “Thanks,” he said gently before letting out a sigh. “I know you’re right...if anyone could take on any challenger, it’s Luffy...he’ll win, no matter what.”
"ACE! ACE!" Noah shouted as she busted through the door of the cabin, her eyes wide and she was holding up a news paper. "Luffy, he, he!" she was freaking out but it was understandable as the headline showed that Luffy's bounty had increased to that of over a billion berries aka Emperor territory bounty. Noah was just shocked and freaking out about what was happening.
Tumblr media
“What did you expect?” Ace laughed. “Luffy’s going to be Pirate King, of course he’s going to get such a big bounty, and it’s only going to get bigger!”

Ace watched Nami for a moment, smiling warmly at her concern and he had a pretty good idea lying to her probably wouldn’t go over well, his little brother had warned him she could have quite the temper and Ace knew what it was like to be at the end of someone’s well meaning anger, even if hers would be a tad bit different than Marco’s or Izo’s, it was still the same principle.
“Well, to say that I got the recommended amount of sleep for a man of my age would be a lie,” he admitted. “An hour or so, at the most, though I really don’t want to wake your crew, especially if they’re as tired as you are. The desert tends to take a lot out of you, especially for us pirates who aren’t really use to being landlocked like that. Though I really can’t stop you from waking them up if that’s what you intend to do.”
He gave Nami a small smile though, hoping it would ease her concerns for him. “While I’m with you, I’m giving my best so you don’t have to worry. When I need to rest I will, I am not going to wear myself out anytime soon just by doing one night watch,” he said in as reassuring a tone as he could.

“Don’t worry, I’m his big brother and I still couldn’t get Luffy to do what I want when I needed him to do it.”
I don’t think there’s a force in this world that could ever fully wrangle in Luffy, not even on the day he finally leaves this world.
Though Ace kept that thought to himself, it wasn’t something that he wanted to think anymore about than a passing thought, and he didn’t want to give Nami anymore to rest heavy on her shoulders. It was then he noticed the slight movement of the woman beside him, gripping the fabric of his robe tighter and the slight shiver of her body as the wind blew past them, causing her hair to gently move against it. Ace didn’t remember what cold felt like, it had been awhile since he last felt it, but he knew the signs of when someone was cold. Slowly, he moved his body closer to her, but made no attempt to wrap an arm around her unless she gave a sign she was alright with that, instead, he increased his body heat, careful how high he raised it, less he combust into flames.
“It’s probably a good idea to get you inside,” he said gently. “And thank you, for taking care of my little brother...and for talking to me, it felt nice to...to share a little bit of the burden, even for just a moment.”

Ace nodded his head slowly. They could only make small steps forward, and there was no promise they really could recover from it but all they really could do was try.
“Thank you,” he said softly as he looked at the cook before standing up and extended out his hand towards Cory, making the first step to try and make amends.
Ace wanted to give them a second chance, if anything for at least Kyle. Ace really cared a lot about the young boy and leaving him behind hurt more than anything and so he would try again. The rest of the crew, they seemed like alright people but Ace wasn’t entirely sure if he would blend well with them but one more try really wasn’t going to hurt, was it? He had already done enough damage to the crew that he really didn’t need to do anymore if he could help it. “I promise, I’ll eat,” he assured Cory when he glanced over to the tray of food. “So you can leave, if you want.”

Ace blushed a little at that but there was a grin that crossed his face then. He knew Noah was just teasing him and he really couldn’t take any offense to it and so he simply leaned forward and gently pressed his lips against her forehead gently and whispered softly so only she could hear, even if they were the only one’s on the ship. “I would bathe you if you actually needed me to, so don’t tempt me,” he said with a smile before leaning back and sitting on the edge of the bed, gently taking her hand in his. “Alright, alright I’ll try and not be so over protective of you...you’re a pirate and a big girl, you can take care of yourself but...I worry and I know if the roles were reversed you would be worrying about me.”

“You know how much I love spicy things!” Ace said with some excitement in his voice. When it came to spice, the hotter the better was the freckled commander’s philosophy.
Ace picked up one of the chocolates with the flame emblem and popped it happily into his mouth, chewing on it. He could feel the heat on his tongue and he let out a low and satisfied groan. The chocolate was both sweet and spicy, a nice little combination that the young commander loved. Though there was something else about the chocolate that made it taste even better, that made it sweeter than it already was. It was the love that Adelaide had put into making it. As corny as that sounded, to Ace that gave the sweet a special addition of flavor that no one else would be able to replicate and he would savor it until all the chocolates she had given him were gone. “I don’t think these chocolates will make it to tomorrow,” he admitted with a grin.
Though now would have to ask Thatch for some advice where to take Adelaide, as he wanted to treat her right, especially since she had made him something so nice and genuine. “Thank you, thank you for loving me like I love you.”

If it was kept her her pocket. “Now i am unsure of how these turned out but i gave it a shot.”
Removing one arm from around him loosening the bag from around her arm holding it out in front of him. Inside of it was both heart and flame shaped different chocolates. “Since this is the month of love as some might call it. Thought you might enjoy these”

“Well then it’s a good thing that I came to be the white knight in your hour of need, wouldn’t you agree?” He said with a chuckle.
Ace was grateful that he could prevent this young woman from being forced into a marriage where the man would have only wanted her body, and would have crushed her spirit over time, killing the light that shone in her eyes.
“Well, I would be foolish to think I know everything...there’s no way for me to have an answer for every question, and sometimes people think differently than me and that’s important when working for shipping and solving problems.”
Maddie was a sweet woman, she had a gentleness in her face that made it easier to feel comfortable talking to her, and Ace found her disarming smile just filled him with warmth when he looked at her.
“Well, as a newly engaged couple we do have some engagements we need to prepare for,” Ace couldn’t help but sigh, despite the pleasant conversation. “Including our engagement announcement.”
Though he couldn’t help but smile at that moment. “Doesn’t mean we can’t have some fun about it, don’t you think so?”
@asongfromtheheart continued from here
“You’re not kidding,” Ace said quietly as he stood by a large window that over looked a grand garden. meticulously tended to, flowers most likely hand chosen by the Lady of the House for beauty and vibrancy.
Just like we have been chosen for this marriage, Ace found himself thinking bitterly. The games of Noble class were as old as time. Carefully cultivate your children to be as good looking as possible to use them as a bargaining chip to attain more wealth, power and land. From a young age, Ace had been taught his role in the family was to carry on the family name of Gol, to be smart and clever and run the trading business with as much finesse and commanding force as his father. Ace had done just that to make his family happy, and now he is told that he must marry someone he had never met to keep his family happy.
Although he was angry, it was not the young woman...Maddie he was told her name only moments before being left alone with her, fault. He had no right to take his frustration out on her for something both their families had forced on them. A deep sigh left the freckled male as he ran his hand through his dark hair and turned to finally face his bride-to-be.
Tumblr media
“Forgive my rude tone earlier,” Ace said with a small apologetic bow to the young woman. “I am upset...but it’s not at you and you don’t deserve to be at the receiving end of my anger.”
Long legs carried him over to the offered seat and slowly he sat down. He felt awkward and nervous beneath the frustration and anger. He had no idea how to talk to her, or even what to talk about. “So...you look...nice...” Ace really felt like an lost idiot right now.

Ace heard the woman running down the stairs, and when there was a heavy thud he lifted his arm up and he propped himself up slightly on his elbow to watch the woman catch her balance from tripping over the stairs and hurry and made her way over to him. He found some amusement in the fact that she was dedicated to being a doctor and his health. “Nice landing,” he found himself saying before laying back down on the couch and let her run through the medical examination gambit.
Ace watched as the young woman breath on the stethoscope and he blinked in confusion until he understood what she was doing. Again Ace smiled and laid his head on the arm of her couch. “You don’t...have to worry about that...” he told the young woman once more. Being made of fire Ace didn’t feel cold, and only could remember feeling cold back...Ace stopped the memory right there and closed his eyes, focusing on the feeling of the metal on his chest, which was rising and falling as steadily as his damaged lungs would let him.
Ace felt uncomfortable with her washing him, but he let her bandage him and the man bit his lower lip and tried to keep himself calm.
“Thank you for your help,” he said quietly when she had finished, gently touching one of the bandages. “You didn’t have to go out of your way for me...and I appreciate it.”
Ace watched her for a moment, seeing how tired the woman looked and he just put his arm back over his eyes, so that she could go and take care of herself.
[Previous] - @the-flaming-spade
All around him people were gasping, staring and exchanging glances as well as heated words. There was chock and to some degree fear in the eyes of those who had witnessed his power unleashed during the public brawl. Maddy was one of the onlookers that had decided to break free of the crowd and aid the young man. He was wounded. She could see that. He was bruised and barely standing on his legs. Of course, she couldn't just let him be it would be against everything she stood for as a doctor! Her arms came to grab him if he should stumble from the strain.
Tumblr media
-"Please, come with me. You're wounded! I don't feel comfortable having you continue your day like this. I don't live far from here, I can patch you up and make sure you get something to eat and a good rest."
Maddy suggested with a plead. The crowd broke up with people scattering here and there to return to whatever business they were doing. The young woman stayed with the freckled man, not moving an inch before he gave her a clear sign of what was going to happen. Her eyes were locked on him, observing if there were more signs of discomfort and pain. When she had gone to town that day, she didn't expect to witness a brawl of this calibre. She had seen fights before between sailors but never with the odds 1 to 10, and never with one of the men having Devil Fruit powers.
The was always something new to see every day, it seemed.

At the mention of hearing that Ann wanted to learn about Roger and Ace felt his stomach twist and made him sick. He wanted nothing to do with the man who damned them, but to see the look in his sisters eyes made him snap his mouth shut. Ann was tired and worn and he knew that look because when he would glance at a mirror it would be the same face that would stare back at him, though with a sharper bone structure than his sisters. Slowly, what anger he felt subsided and he sunk back in the booth a little bit.
Ace knew his sister was trying to move on, trying to become someone better and stronger then she already was and Ace couldn’t fault her for that, especially when they had been through shit that would change the both of them forever and they would never be the same and Ace just wanted to make sure his sister didn’t fall down the same hole that the ex-commander had.
He turned his head away, Ann wasn’t meeting his gaze so it didn’t matter if he stared at her or not. “You can do that...” he muttered as he tapped his fingers against the table as he tried to think about the best way to go about the conversation they, clearly needed to have. “I was training with Rayleigh,” he admitted to his sister as he knew who that man had been the right hand of, it was impossible to not know he had been The Pirate King’s first mate, he was a famous pirate after all.
Ace didn’t know if he could ever forgive that man who ruined their lives, but he was tired too, Marineford and quelled a lot of the fire that had once burned inside his soul, and it very well could have broken it, or at least cracked it enough that the raven haired man could tell. “I can understand why you’re doing that...just because it isn’t something I’m going to do...you need to do what will help you, I can’t deny you that type of...comfort?” He suggested as he wasn’t entirely sure if that was the correct word for the situation but he did just want Ann to heal from the damage they both endured.
