i’m just thinking about annabeth having PTSD over losing percy. and i don’t mean losing him as in dying (which obviously she’s scared of too) but in this case i mean losing him like she did in heroes of olympus.

i’m just thinking of annabeth, once she and percy finally move in together, waking up one morning without percy next to her and having a panic attack thinking he was taken again. so she jumps up and starts frantically checking every room of the house until she finds him in the kitchen.

he’s making breakfast and was going to surprise annabeth with it in bed, and he starts to make some joke about her ruining the surprise until he sees her panicked face.

and annabeth just wraps him in a tight hug and let’s herself sob into his shoulder because godsdammit she loves him and she can’t lose him again.

that’s just what i’m thinking about.

i like to imagine that percy and annabeth can telepathically communicate but on a subconscious level that neither one of them can pick up on. like, percy sitting with a half-empty water bottle and having the inexplicable urge to tilt the water a little to the left, and the very action extending all the way to california and saving annabeth, who was close to drowning in a swimming pool. or, annabeth doing her homework in her room and randomly calling out fighting tactics and those instructions extending all the way to new york and saving percy, who got ambushed by a monster on his way home. and the best part is that they both chalk it up to being weird traits that they inherited from their godly parent. like, i need a telepathic percabeth.

let me be delusional. let me believe that annabeth heeded percy's advice at the end of the summer and went to virginia, only to realize that in the five years she's been away, her father hasn't changed. let me believe that annabeth ran away from home once again, intending to live at chb until she's old enough to live on her own. let me believe that during the boat ride she and percy go on later that year in the SOM, annabeth admits that she's been staying at camp since a few weeks after the summer ended. let me believe that after the quest, percy offers annabeth his living room couch in case she ever gets tired of being at camp all the time. let me believe that annabeth takes him up on the offer one night and sally does her best to make her feel welcome. let me believe that annabeth starts visiting the jackson residence more often, so often that she has extra pairs of clothes and a toothbrush over there. let me believe that when annabeth falls off the cliff and gets held hostage in TTC, all she wants to do is go home, and for the first time, 'home' stops meaning the sixth cabin in a bordered-off summer camp, or a thirty-minute nap in an abandoned alleyway - it starts to mean a certain apartment in manhattan with blue chocolate chip cookies and the occasional movie nights on the living room couch. let me believe that after TTC, sally sits annabeth down at the kitchen table and asks if she feels comfortable with her filing for guardianship. let me believe that a few weeks later, annabeth is sitting in a court room, squeezing percy's hand as they watch sally fight for custody over her. let me believe that as soon as the judge grants sally guardianship, annabeth cries into percy's shoulder because after years of running, she's finally found a family that chooses her.

picture this: chiron grants annabeth permission to bear the curse of achilles. she goes with nico, bathes in the river styx and returns to camp. before she can inform percy, she is immediately thrusted into battle. percy is fighting at her side and he wants to ask what's different about her. before he can, he has the overwhelming urge to block annabeth. he gets stabbed and falls to the ground. annabeth screams for the enemy to stay the hell away from him and chiron rushes percy to wherever will is. as soon as she has the time, annabeth rushes to find percy. when she does, they lock eyes from across the room and an understanding passes between: they are each other's lifeline.

A short list of things I would have changed in HoO

It takes place ten ish years after the end of PJO. Percy and Annabeth aren’t a part of the seven but instead appear as cool older mentors to help out the Lost Hero trio. They both have careers and live in New York and go to Sally’s house for dinner every weekend.

Caleo isn’t a thing. In fact, let’s not even mention Calypso. At most we mention she was freed after the last war as idk proof demigods have some power or something.

More than 1 Asian character. Give this one ADHD and dyslexia bc shocker Asian kids can be disabled as well.

For that matter a properly disabled character. I have a deaf OC I would use if I rewrote the series.

Leo is aroace. His arc is about learning that his self worth doesn’t have to be tied to the people around him and his friends love and care about him and he doesn’t need romance to be complete. His flirting is overcompensation bc he doesn’t feel romantic or sexual attraction and is afraid he’ll be alone forever.

Drew and Piper become friends. Drew’s mean girl bullshit is outdated and boring and it would have been a lot cooler to see her icy exterior thaw and her help Piper with her charmspeck (explaining how Piper learned how to use it to begin with) and take on an older sister role

Neither Leo nor Piper become head councilors to their cabins because that’s dumb

Keep the chapter title style from PJO. It was so fun and one of the highlights of the series for me. The relatable nature of PJO in general was kinda lost in HoO and it’s a shame bc there was such a variety of characters for people to identify with there.

Give Reyna a girlfriend or at least a homoerotic friendship that can become an actual relationship in the next series or something

Frank is 14 and he and Hazel aren’t dating, they just have mutual baby crushes on one another.

For that matter what the fuck was ‘Frank is magically not fat due to Mars’s blessing’ bullshit? Frank is a fat character who stays fat but learns to be confident in himself and his body type.

Stop The Adultification of Hazel 2k23. Hazel is 13, she’s the youngest member of the seven and despite her trauma I think that should be obvious. I think emphasizing her relationship with Nico could be fun here - he’s in his 20s so him taking a more ‘that older sibling who toes the line between parent and sibling’ role here could be fun.

Also, I don’t want Hazel to have Hecate’s blessing or whatever. Between her being a magical horsegirl and the daughter of Pluto there’s already a lot of room to expand on her powers that was never used - I think doing more with her cursed jewels and metals powers and her learning the other aspects of her powers, like Shadow Travel, would be fun.

Instead I think having a daughter of Hecate as a part of the Seven would be cool, because we could still have a witchy character with mist manipulation and magic powers.

Give Jason an actual personality, please. Bro’s been a child solider practically since age 2 and has spent his whole life with the weight of other teenagers’ lives on his shoulders as praetor - give him perfectionism issues and anxiety. We’re told that he’s spent his whole life helping others compromise instead of being his own person - show that. Let his arc end with him deciding to try and live a mortal life and find out who he is beyond being a war general.

Show us that Octavian’s a piece of shit, don’t just tell us.

Leo and Piper are the ones who fall into Tartarus. Nothing romantic ever happens but we get heavy emphasis on their friendship and we get to see their grief over Leo’s mom and Piper’s grandfather respectively

Piper’s grandfather has died a few months ago and she cut her hair herself when her dad didn’t want to let her due to that (correct me if I’m wrong but it’s a tradition in Cherokee culture to cut your hair when a loved one dies, correct?), which is why it’s all uneven. A lot of her insecurities stem from going from growing up in rural Oklaholma (not in a reservation bc there aren’t any there) without much money to suddenly being catapulted into a millionaire Hollywood lifestyle and having everyone criticize everything about her and be really racist, all while her Dad drew farther away from both her and her grandfather. Her arc would be reconnecting with both her culture and Dad and learning to find who she is and her self worth again.

They defeat Gaea in a way that isn’t so anticlimactic and fucking stupid

yeah yeah yeah percy and annabeth deserve to go to college and live peaceful lives and I guess New Rome accomplishes that but maybe just maybe I LIKE the idea of wacky demigod hijinks that come with them living in the mortal world hmmm??? maybe I can APPRECIATE the comedic potential of them having to juggle demigod responsibilities while going to college in New York?? Like come on, they’re seasoned fighters, a random monster isn’t going to take them out, let Annabeth go to her dream college that will give her merit in the mortal world as an architect and if the trade off is that she has to occasionally excuse herself from her classes to quietly deal with an empousa out in the hall, well then so be it. Let Percy get to go to a college in his city, near his mom, and sure he might have to consider whether his chem professor is a monster from hell or like, an actual monster from hell, but then again who doesn’t??

Children of Ares can map out a battle mentally, like a child of Athena, but they look for the quickest, often times most brutal way to victory, as opposed to the best strategic plan. They can also last longer in a battle than most other warriors, and depending on how powerful they are, can get better the more brutal the battle gets, but some children of Ares hate that ability so much, they're sworn pacifists

Sally 100% made her wedding with Paul when Percy was 15 because she’s didn’t want to her son to not be there (she knew he was going to be alive-deep in her hearts she knew but still that fear ate at her) and Percy walked her down the aisle and Grover was there (sally and Grover were close) and it was a very emotional scene especially with Percy coming to the fact that 1) his mom is happy and 2) Paul makes him mom feel safe and 3) Paul cares for Percy just by asking his permission and mentioning that in his speech that he’s honored to have gain a new son and a half (which all the guests thought sally was pregnant but really it was Tyson)

Annabeth has a really good success rate of figuring out movie twists way before they happen in a movie. She likes to sometimes lean over to Percy in the theater, and tell him the twist way before it actually happens. He's still shocked by how many times she's right

Children of Athena don't really have an physical powers, but they have fantastic mental powers. They can visualize every potential move on a battlefield, and even get a glimpse into a potential outcome of the move. They can even, on some rare instances, get a glimpse into someone's thoughts or emotions. They all know how to play chess instinctively, and chess has been banned from Cabin 6, because those games will last hours at a time, and arguments about strat get brutal at times. Children of Athena are master observers, and when the Cabin 6 kids get bored, they pull up old cold case files, and try to solve it. Chiron tried to ban that as well, because they will form sides on which solution is correct, and things can get off the rails very fast. But the campers still do that one

Not a headcannon post, but I finally put together my Ammabeth Chase cosplay! I made the necklace myself. It took me 5 hours, but it was totally worth it. Everything I already owned, except the shirt, and it helps that I actually am a Yankees fan. The dagger isn't Greek, but Celtic, but it works!
