“Looks a lot better inside, don’t it? Place used to be a real pigsty before the 'new management’ gave it a much needed upgrade.” It was impossible for him to even try to hide his smug, proud tone from his voice there, as he looked at his own handiwork. “But, you want to see the fighting pits, don'tchya? Come on, you’re gonna love this.” He lead her further in, to another door that seemed to lead to the outside. The guards posted there took one look at him and opened the door, letting them both through without so much as a word. The outside air blew gently against them as they walked out, cool and refreshing from the smoke inside. Instead of inside a mountain, they were greeted by a vast open space, surrounded by cliffs from all side rising up far above them, from far below them. Lights dotted the ground below as they could make out buildings forming what could almost be described as a hidden town. Yells and cheers could be heard even from here, carried by the wind as festivities seemed to be taking place. At the center of it, a giant arena stood taller than the buildings around it, with so much light that it illuminated the small 'neighborhoods’ that surrounded it.
“The private elevater’s ready for ya, Boss.” a gruff stranger called out  to Sett. He grinned, soaking in the feeling of being back, and watching Xolani’s reaction eagerly. He gently placed one hand on her shoulder as he proudly waved his hand in front of them. “Welcome, Miss Xolani, to MY fighting pits.”
As they approached the old looking tavern, Xolani furrowed her eyebrows while eyeing the Vastaya. There was a mixture of curiosity and confusion in her gaze. Without a question she entered, stopping briefly in shock. It was incredible to see this many people from all over the world gathered in one place. “Wow…” Was all she could mutter as she followed him, almost falling behind in her astonished state.
The place reminded her of a palace of sort, with all the lavish decoration and the rich crowd gathered inside. What truly amazed the princess was the variety of drinks and objects. They were from different nations, not just Ionia. An Ixtali ornament would make for a nice addition.
Once again, she gazed at him as they entered through another large door. It made sense, having doors this tall considering how large some men were in the building. “It is amazing. I am curious how the fighting pits look like.” So far, the place looked nothing like what she imagined. The princess was so occupied by the view that she did not even notice the amount of respect the man beside her was commanding. At least not until the word ‘boss’ was spoken by the guard.
Her lips parted slightly in shock as she looked at him. “W…What?” No wonder she has seen him before, he is the Boss. She cleared her throat quickly as they entered the elevator and did her best to remain calm. It was evident that he was wealthy, but she did not realize how much power he held until that point. As the elevator lowered, she thought about their conversation. He really did his best to keep his identity a secret.
“… I suppose I should thank you, but I do not even know your name, Boss.” She replied quietly with a hint of annoyance in her tone.
Curiosity
Summer somehow felt different in Ionia. ‘Perhaps it’s the lack of moisture in the air’, the princess pondered as she strolled through the small town. Her steps were filled with determination, she knew where her destination was. With a surprising amount of ease, she crossed a wooden bridge, her long silk dress dancing in the wind. It filled her with some pride to be able to walk this elegantly in heels.
She slowed her steps as she approached her destination. It had become a routine of sort for her to visit a certain café once a week. They served the best cakes and coffee and the small terrace was facing a beautiful lake. It would be foolish of her not to enjoy the sweetness of a chocolate cake alongside the view.
The café was relatively small thus it did not take long for her to order the cake and coffee. As always, she sat by her usual table on the terrace, however her gaze was distracted from the glistering lake. There was a tall vastaya man, seemingly completely out of place, enjoying the company of a beautiful vastayan woman. Xolani recognised the woman, she visited the café quite often, but the red head was completely new. And yet, she felt like she had seen him before.
She took a sip from her cup, enjoying the sweet aroma as she wondered where she had seen him before. It was not until she saw a glimpse of his face that she realised. Fighting pits. She could not help but wonder what such gentle woman was doing with a fighter. Perhaps the most interesting part was how gentle the brute seemed to be towards the woman. As if she was a delicate flower.
Her curiosity grew by the minute until she hummed softly to herself and decided to approach the pair. A sweet smile graced her face as she politely greeted them both before turning her attention towards the male. “If I may ask, are you a fighter from the pit? I recall seeing a poster of you somewhere.”

Sett’s ear flickered at her indignant huff. He couldn’t help it, it was a little too easy to press her buttons. Although, it was clear she was picking up on the game, with her comment on his mother. He couldn’t hide his frown as he looked at her victorious smile. For a brief moment, Sett wondered if this is what his opponents felt when he beat them with a smile on his own face. “Ha-ha, hilarious. Ain’t too far off though,” He scratched the back of his head, wondering just how much he should say. Normally he wouldn’t say anything at all, but his time with her’s been pretty much anything but normal for him.
“Had a time where money was not as available as I would’ve liked. Makin’ money from fightin’s great, so I chose to do that. Made quite a bit of it too, might I add.” His grin crept back to his face. “Fighting brings out a part of ya that most people try to keep away. Watchin’ fights, fighting yourself, they both bring that out and people like it. Kinda like drinkin’, you know?” Putting it into words was harder than he anticipated, but it sounded about right.
“It was, wasn’t it?” She teased while chuckling to herself, feeling successful with her counterattack. She quieted down as his tone turned more serious. It was undeniable when looking at her face that his honesty surprised her. Empathy was not her strong suit though. At least not when she had to relate to money related issues. Growing up as royalty has blinded her thus, she struggled to understand what it was like for him before his success.
“You sound like my sisters- well, for most part.” She chimed in after he finished his explanation. “Fighting is a part of our culture, it is not something we pay to watch, it is a way of life.” She said, her tone growing more monotone than before. She reached to fidget with her necklace, wondering if perhaps the tone exposed more than she would have liked for him to know.

So @the-ionian-brawler and I were discussing whether or not Sett’s hearing is good or not since he is a wolverine vastaya right.
Well, we looked it up and apparently “They have poor eyesight and average hearing but a tremendous sense of smell...” (source)
So now I want riot to make it canon that Sett wears reading glasses at home.

Sett couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow at her statement. She doesn’t need guards? What, is she gonna buy off every chump who tries to mug her? Maybe she’s also got a couple tricks up her sleeve though. He mulled the thought over as they walked. The name Xolani didn’t ring any bells either; wherever she was from, it likely was pretty damn far.
“Well off? I guess that’s a way to put it.” He chuckled and proudly dusted his vest proudly. “Let’s just say, money’s not an issue with me.” The streets were becoming country paths, darker, and more open. The way wasn’t far, but it was hidden behind a winding way. “What’re you expectin’ from the pits? Have you ever even seen proper fights?” He glanced at her, expectantly. If she knew how to fight, he’d want to know what experience she has that makes her so confident.
She huffed quietly, wondering if he could get any more frustrating with this ‘game’ of his. Constantly fishing for information without revealing anything vital about himself. He really started to remind her of a certain sibling.
“We do not have fighting pits where I come from, but we are trained in different ways.” Xolani replied but went quiet for a moment, wondering if perhaps she should mention how much Ixtali train their whole lives. In the end, she deemed it a bit unnecessary to reveal something that could potentially expose her origin. Though, he had most likely never heard of a place called Ixtal.
“As to what I expect, nothing really. I just cannot help but wonder why fighting pits are so popular.” She glanced at him and smiled almost slyly. “So then, what do you fight for? Money? Women? Your mother~?”

She opened her mouth to protest but decided against it, refusing to falter after one comment. Instead, she followed after him, quickly closing the gap so they would be side by side. Following from behind was not something a princess would or should do. “Xolani.” She replied while eyeing him suspiciously. People did not usually comment on her expensive attire so openly, yet people were more often than not interested in her wealth. She could tell that he was not poor either though. Perhaps it was just a casual comment?
“I’m from a noble family and guards are for those who need them.” She told him, mimicking his casual tone to the best of her ability while keeping an eye on the road. It has been months since she left Ixtal and Ionia was one of the more peaceful nations she has visited. Noone has given her a reason to be cautious so far and she was capable of defending herself. “What about you? You seem to be quite well off too.”

She could not help but smile at the silly joke, though she made sure not to show him said smile. There is no way she would let him see that. “Water is soothing to look at and the Ionian fishes are quite colourful.” She replied softly, gazing at the river once more before turning to face him.
It surprised her a little to see his clothes, or rather the lack of. She looked away hastily, her cheeks ever so slightly reddening. A mere blush but she knew that he would comment. Without skipping a beat, she cleared her throat and folded her arms. “So, which way is The Pit?” She eyed him again quickly before continuing. “Are you supposed to fight in such an expensive looking outfit?”

An almost sly smile appeared on her face as he suggested a date and location. “10 pm it is then.” She agreed, observing him as he continued speaking. It was clear that he was a ‘brute’ and that he very much enjoyed being feared. Yet, he was almost cute when laughing. The princess’s observation stopped abruptly, the sudden seriousness in his tone was rather surprising.
She did not have the chance or time to address the warning, he was clearly not interested in replies or excuses. He seemed to be rather aware of the usual effectiveness of his threats, but she was not the type to show fear.
“See you tonight” She replied sweetly, her smile never wavering. It would take more than rough words to make her obey someone’s wishes, especially if that someone is full of himself.

It has been only a few minutes since Xolani made her way to the bridge, yet time seemed to be moving extremely slowly. It crossed her mind that perhaps she was nervous but that would be ridiculous. She sighed softly as she gazed at the fishes beneath the bridge. It was quite tempting to play with them but exposing her elemental prowess would endanger her greatly. Instead, she rested her head against the palm of her hand as she waited for the Vastaya to arrive.

The princess was quite shocked and could barely remain calm. Her hands trembled ever so slightly. His struggle was evident, yet he refused her help. She couldn’t understand why. The hoarseness of his voice surprised the Ixtali but she quickly sobered up when the Lunari dropped to the floor. She held her breath while approaching him, preparing herself for the worst.
Yet, from what she could tell, he was merely unconscious. For a brief moment Xolani felt relief, only to be replaced with confusion and worry. For the life of her, she couldn’t figure out what to do.  Though he was not on the heavy side, it would be difficult for her to carry him.
She skimmed the enormous hall, hoping that someone might be there to help. However, it was just the two of them. It did not take long for her to realise that her options were quite limited.
Without thinking much of his earlier words, she removed her shawl, folding it into a soft pillow to place beneath the young man’s head. A soft sigh escaped her lips as she reached to rest a hand on his forehead. No fever. Carefully, she wiped away some sweat droplets from his cheek and leaned against the wall. Waiting for him to wake up.
“You okay?” (Or “I’m fine” if you prefer :> )
send “you okay?” to find my muse crying
Those days were the worst… When he started to listen to Alune’s voice fade, their connection vanishing. Then he knew he would have to drink the Noctum’s poison once more, and every time he did, his body seem to weaken and the pain goes stronger.
But he does anyway. He was born to serve as a soldier, to be a weapon. He had no time to spend complaining about his fate. Yet, his strong resolution doesn’t makes the pain go away, so he tries to stay inside the temple where he trains during the next two days, until there’s no traceable feature of pain on his face.
At least there is no voice to cry suffering. His vocal cords are gone, and all one can listen is to his heavy breathe. His both hands are gripping tight to his stomach as the poison reach that part. His eyes close tight and there is some blood on his lips as he bites them, unaware of being hurting himself.
“Are you okay?” Those words seem to punch him in the face, and he quickly turn to look at the intruder. His gaze could turn Xolani into ashes, but only before Aphelios realizes her image is blurred by tears, which he wipes away angrily.
“Yes.” He moves one hand from the stomach.

Shocking yet amusing. That’s how Xolani would describe his reaction. ‘Busted’, she thought, trying her hardest to hide her smile until she heard the word ‘momma’ in the middle of his ramble. A part of her felt guilty for exposing his supposed secret but that feeling quickly dispersed when her delicate wrist was roughly grabbed.
“Let go” She hissed at him as he dragged her, but he seemed to not hear or simply ignored her command. She huffed in annoyance as he stopped and released her arm, which was aching quite badly. His grip was no joke. The princess straightened her back, regaining her elegant posture while gently rubbing the hurting wrist. Her gaze never leaving his face.
It had been months since anyone spoke to her with such manner, or rather lack of. But she was rather certain that if he wanted to hurt her, he would have already. Thus, she waited for him to finish his rant, watching as he sized her up. Clearly, she was an exotic sight for him, but this did not surprise the Ixtali.
“I believe my question was rather clear.” She replied after a moment of silence, her hand idly reaching for the necklace hanging from her neck, gently caressing the crystal. “And judging from your reaction, you know the answer.” A small, barely noticeable smile graced her face as she remembered the messy scene from earlier. “I am merely interested in finding out what the big deal is regarding the pit.”

A small squeak escaped her lips as she hugged the coat around herself. “I apologise... It started to rain when I was outside and I desperately needed clothes.” She explained hurriedly, hoping that her blush was not too obvious. “Alune was nowhere to be found so..”

Aphelios face turns red at the same instant and there’s nothing he can do to disguise it. Couldn't Alune have borrowed her something? She had a lot of dresses.
“Ahm... I... I believe that’s mine.” He said not looking at her body, half covered by his coat, which luckly were large.

To be called ‘my dear’ was not something the princess was a fan of. There was a small hint of annoyance in her glance as she watched him trying to appear bigger than her, wondering how he knew her name.
Xolani stayed silent for a moment, considering whether or not being a prophet gives him the ability to know her name without asking. "I would say it's also my pleasure, but I wouldn't want to made a liar. What brings to the Ixtali, void-man?"
Tumblr media
In turn, he held his head high, glancing down at her as if he were some sort of higher being of power. (Not too intimidating given his shorter height) “I am the Void’s Prophet, my dear. I am Malzahar. It is quite a pleasure to meet your acquaintance, Xolani.” Another chuckle, right before he took a step back. The visions he had seen. He remembered her name from them.
