another funny doodle while working on Jack. fun fact, he has a mild narcolepsy that on some occasions just causes him to fall asleep. worst time it happened was when he got too excited opening a package with his Brazilian Wandering Spider… he and his assistant Boo had to spend two hours looking for it once it managed to make itself at home in the filing cabinets.

im going insane. im losing it. im cooking, serving and eating

so, this is a Monobreather.

I’m planning on a dungeons and dragons campaign, where a group will have to explore a deep, claustrophobic cave system to find an artificer and his relics and treasure, because his absence has been troubling the town.

He was doing experiments, chemistry, down in the cave. Typical wizard shit, he thought he had a lovely place to stay for his work, away from the civillians.

He didn’t know monobreathers were down there with him.

An endemic life native to the caves expansive system, these peculiar cave dwellers are blind, fleshy beasts with orangey iron filled beaks and claws for digging and using echolocation in the environment. They tend to travel in packs of around 7 to 10, with only around 20hp each. What’s dangerous isn’t their beaks, or claws, or even their resistance to acid, bludgeoning ane poison.

They breathe in nitrogen and carbon dioxide, and breathe out carbon monoxide. Entering a chamber with these beasts can cause any organic adventurer to die in minutes, without even knowing. When in a battle, the effects are as follows.

Turn one of the fight, no negative effects occur. Two, roll with disadvantage on intelligence and wisdom related throws. Three, roll disadvantage on everything. Four and up? Disadvantage on everything, and take 1d20 damage. You either lose one hp, or have a total wipeout.

How do your adventurers learn this? Well, you’ll find a room with the artificer dead on the floor, next to a tiny box. In the corner of the room will be a treasure chest, filled with gold and various nicknacks. Your adventurers can grab a small bag of wind, which can temporarily dispell the air and keep it fresh with oxygen to breathe. However, uses are limited. We wouldn’t want it being overused!

The tiny box contains various tiny yellow birds, all dead. Miner Canaries.

I am brewing up SO MANY IDEAS for these nightmares, and you can trust that I’m going to have at least one campaign with them !!!!! if you want to try your own version PLEASE DO, but also let me know how it goes and if you want any help with more specific details!! >:))
