Ok, so, fuck that

I kinda had the right idea last year, with the whole ‘you don’t have to change if you don’t want to’ thing, but it’s kinda bullshit.

Rather than saying “don’t change, because you’re just right being you” or “always keep changing and improving yourself,”  I think it’s a lot better to say “change is okay. you’re doing okay, but if you don’t think so, you can fix it if you want. no one else’s opinion matters on this except for yours. so change if you want, but don’t feel pressured to.”

This year has been a big one for self-discovery for me, with my sexual orientation going from heterosexual/straight ally to bicurious to pansexual to omnisexual to omnisexual panromantic to bisexual to giving up on labels entirely, as well as my gender identity going from cisgender girl to questioning nonbinary to genderflux to nonbinary without a specific label. And I’m not finished the journey yet.

To be honest, the trip that has been this year has really made me despise this original post, because the version of me who wrote it was an antisocial introvert who never left her room, trying to no avail to inspire people who didn’t need inspiring. This version of me that exists now is someone who misses their friends, wants to try new things, cut and dyed their hair and is going to do it again, meets new people, lifts people up when they need it most, and most importantly, is comfortable being who they are.

Never stop changing. Until you’ve become the ideal you, that’s something that needs doing. Keep in mind, the ideal you is not the world’s ideal you. It’s your ideal you.

New year, old me? Sure, if you want.

New year, new me? I’m proud of you for wanting to change what you don’t like.

Keep going. Don’t stop. Your ideal you depends on it.
