I would like all Americans (and everyone else) who are excited for the Superbowl to know: Before the actual Superbowl there's a live tournament on TV, here in Germany, called "American Ice Football".
It is exactly what it sounds like: American Football but played on Ice, in shoes with entirely smooth soles.
It's a tournament with 4 teams and they are called Eastside Ossis, Westside Wessis, Northcoast Naughties and Southside Smoothies and it's just hilariously entertaining.
Ok there was a confession awhile back about wanting Dreadwolf to copy BG3's character creator and it rubbed me the wrong way. First I think its fucking ridiculous to compare a character creator from a game that is a decade old to one that is from a game that is six months old. And while I agree that Inquisition's character customization was not the best, and the hairstyles do suck, I was still always to create my protagonists pretty close to what I wanted, especially with the face . I could not do that with BG3.
The face choices in BG3 are extremely limiting. And as a POC I felt even more limited because I couldn't really play a character with non white features. So I'm going to just say it, BG3 is just not great at letting you create people of color. DAI was not perfect but I'm grateful I was still able to craft my characters to look different from everybody else's. I don't want Bioware to forget that there are POC gamers and that we matter
I rewatched my all-time favourite comfort movie Strictly Ballroom and at the end when Doug comes up to Shirley after everything, takes her hand and asks 'Shall we dance?' and she does that little cry gasp. Of course nowadays my mind immediately went to Hades and Perpehone 'and brother you know what they did? They danced' because they, too, had forgotten about their love and had to be reminded of it and in Hadestown it was through Orpheus' song, and in Strictly Ballroom it was through watching their son dance freely, without the restrictions, and him being unabashedly happy and in love and it reminded them of what they had once had and what really mattered and I guess what I am trying to say is I love the trope of estranged, older couples who had become bitter and jaded to each other rediscovering what is really important and that they really do love each other!
But also it made me think of Hadestown reimagined as a ostentaciously sparkly, corny, early 90s ballroom dance competition and that idea made me laugh really really hard!
Not me being feral over the first words Orpheus and Eurydice exchange being Him: 'Come home with me'
Her: 'Who are you?'
Him, singsong-y: 'The man who's gonna marry you. I'm Orpheus.'
Yadda yaddda Hermes saying yes he's always like this and Euridyce giggling: 'I'm Eurydice.'
And then when he finds her in the underworld, again:
Him, AGAIN: 'Come home with me.'
Her: 'It's you!',
Him: 'It's me!'
Her, gasp: 'Orpheus!' *Literally at this point she doesn't even remember her own name but she recognizes HIM IMMEDIATELY I AM NOT OKAY!!! lITERALLY INT HE SONG BEFORE THIS SHE GOES 'i REMEMBER SOMEONE, SOMEONE BY MY SIDE, TURNS HIS FACE TO MINE... AND THEN I TURNED AWAY' LIKE SHE ONLY REMEMBERS HIM AND THEN HE'S RIGHT THERE!!!
Him: 'Eurydice!' *he gives her name back you guys! AAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
AND THEN then their final words in the whole show to each other:
Him: 'It's you.'
Her: 'It's me... Orpheus...'
Him: 'Eurydice...' Like the world's saddest ball game. They get introduced, exchanging names, and in Hadestown he quite ltierally gives her back her name because she's forgotten and the same words they say when they find each other again are the last words they say to each other and are also echoes of to the first words they said to each other. I don't often gush about this lovestory because there is just SO MUCH ABOUT HADESTOWN THAT IS AWESOME but damn Orpheus and Euridyce get me everytime. And then you have the Road to Hell lyrics 'Someone's gotta tell the tale, whether or not it turns out well, MAYBE IT WILL TURN OUT THIS TIME' because it's circular, they have been doing this back and forth for so long, and they're gonna do it again and again and I'm just... in shambles...
