It was so devastating to see how Bilbo's mind was getting poisoned by the ring, but at the same time when you pay attention to his actions and all subtle details throughout the movie you literally go "omg, that wasn't him doing that but the ring!" I just find that really cool!

getting back into lotr is like. i believe in the power of choosing to do good even when you don’t feel like you’re good. the power of healing instead of hurting even if healing hurts more than hurting. the power of being unable to heal and of finding relief in the unknown. i want to be kinder. i want to be better. i want to be gentle and unburdened again but i have to walk on and on. does any of this have meaning? why of course even if you can’t remember or find the meaning of it in this very instance. it’s okay. you can cry. it’s okay. you did your best. what does it mean to be a good person? i want to believe that i can change and change the course of things even if i’m insignificant in the grand scheme of things. no one is insignificant in the grand scheme of things. i would walk with you to the end of the world and beyond to the next world too and the one after that. don’t leave me behind. i love you. i love you and i must leave you but i will always remember you. i love you. until our roads converge once more, be happy and eat well. thank you for following me to the end, i’ll see you again after the last star falls.

attempting to find a specific bagginshield fic!!!!! pls help. 

post-bofta thorin lives au. bilbo is still in erebor. however, this is immediately post bofta and the fic is set basically in the camp outside the mountain. thorin is still seriously injured and much of it is set in his tent. dis is there, i believe, and she is barely speaking to thorin. bilbo and thorin are still dancing around each other. it contains this (or a similar) incredible line:

He had worn his armor like a crown, but now that he has the real thing, it’s not quite what he imagined.

Well, the thing is he didn’t imagine it, really. He never stopped to think about what would happen after because he couldn’t.

i believe it is a wip. and probably about 30k.

some color/background studies feat. middle earth

one thing that keeps coming back to me, especially when im anxious, is the idea of thorin having a panic attack but not knowing what it is because middle earth doesnt have psychiatry, so hes like “ oh fuck my weary heart is giving out at last” and seeks bilbo out to ask “where do hobbits go?”

and understandably bilbo says “what??” and thorin says “where do hobbits go? when they die??” and bilbos like “first of all i dont know second of all what the fuck” and thorin is like “when i reach the halls of my forebears i will wait for you i will search for you please stay with me here until the end” and bilbo is like oh my god why did nobody tell me that dwarves can get Suddenly Become Dead Syndrome so they sit there for three minutes clutching each other while thorin sweats and hyperventilates and then….thorin starts to feel like…..he is not on the brink of death……. actually he is beginning to feel a little bit better…….

but like. theyre still on the floor. and thorins still drenched with sweat but his breathing has returned to normal. hes fervently avoiding bilbos gaze. and neither of them speaks but bilbo is thinking “first he shook off gold sickness then he fought off Suddenly Become Dead syndrome, he’s amazing, damn the consequences i simply must tell him how i feel” and thorin is thinking “well whatever that was, it wasnt fatal, unfortunately”

important question: are dragons cold-blooded or warm blooded?

because they’re basically giant lizards, right, so cold-blooded…

but how could they breathe fire without being warm-blooded? wouldn’t that imply they could only breathe fire after having laid in the sun for a while - which seems honestly like they’d be pretty easy to defeat, if they need to “recharge” every half-hour or so. and they certainly wouldn’t be able to breathe fire as cold-blooded animals if they’d been stuck in a mountain or cave or under a castle for years…

but the whole “stuck in a mountain or cave or under a castle for years” bit only actually works if they’re cold-blooded, because cold-blooded animals can survive for a long time on very little food: they just stop growing. and also being cold-blooded explains why they get so big, because most warm-blooded animals have a maximum size, whereas most cold-blooded animals just sort of keep growing, like trees

these are the questions that plague me

Wyvern: 2 legs, 2 wings

Drake: 4 legs, flightless

Wyrms: long snake like body with no appendages, can also appear as a traditional Chinese dragon with 4. Legs and no wings yet can fly

Amphithere: 0 legs 2 wings, can be feathered

Lindwurms: 2 legs, 0 wings, long body

Luck dragon: 4 legs, no wings, can fly, long body, furry with dog like face

Komodo dragon: 4 legs, no wings, real

Bearded dragon: 4 legs, 0 wings, often kept as pets
