I am convinced Anthony is dressed even more posh than usual because he’s “officially” Viscount. Like yes, he’s always been but he struggled for so long with that title. Tried so hard to balance his double lives and caved to one identity only to finally find balance when he found love. When he let love in. It’s his “Anthony: Serious years” but authentically ANTHONY. He and Kate are the Viscount and Viscountess now. A united front. They must look the part. Kate out here looking like a Queen, Anthony’s gotta match her fit too. A Kate Sharma hairstyle dissertation pls 🙏🏽

honestly i am probably not the best person to go to analyse hairstyles, given i'm more of a writer than i am good at translating visuals into such specific things as hair or clothes, i mostly just know my vibes when i look at them.

but before i start on kate's hair i think it's also worth noting i am NOT afraid of quote unquote 'Ugly' hairstyles or facial hairstyles in film and tv. like whatever the fuck was happening with every single man's hair in outlaw king on netflix? entirely my shit. anthony's sideburns in s1 that people claim 'everyone' hated? not me, i was thriving from the second i laid eyes on them. any fictional character that rocks a moustache? instant obsession. i think about this look on louis garrel in saint laurent more than is healthy:

the more insanely niche you go with hair the more obsessed with it i'm likely to be. so all those 'ugly' hairs in s1 of bridgerton, with the weird choppy fringes and bizarre curly numbers, i loved all of them. they went tamer this season with everyone except penelope (whose do's were VERY FUN and i enjoyed their 'ugliness' immensely). which i understand the change, but it did make me feel like shouting 'COWARDICE' at the top of my lungs every time i in particular saw eloise's hair, but i get it. most of you are too scared of weird hair, and that's fine. but like, not even weird hair, just anything that's not modern standards of hair and beauty, which go off i guess i do understand esp for a show like bridgerton but that aint me. im ok with the wacky. i want to see more of whatever s1 eloise's wedding hair was - that shit had me living.

but all of this is to say, i did not hate the early season 2 kate wigs as much as everyone else did. I think they went a little high on the back of the head, but i understand why they did because i think otherwise her head would have looked a little strangely shaped, because the hair was pulled back/braided so severely. and that was the point! Beginning of the season kate was severe, and she didn't have any of the debutante esque curls with all the frills like edwina did (these ofc are all very reductive gender stereotypes, but whatever that's not what the costume/hair department's trying to challenge) and she was very no nonsense and purposefully trying to make herself 'plainer' than she is. because she does have all these gorgeous natural curls? that she's almost forcing out and tightening to make out this picture of a woman that she's not but that she's pretending to be, all taut and rigid and immovable.

then over the course of the season we get to see these curls and little tendrils come down as she opens up, and starts to let little bits of her walls down. and anthony and edwina are really the only ones who ever get to see her with her hair down which Ow, but also love that Anthony is also clearly obsessed with her hair (the way he gently caresses that tendril and tucks it behind her ear in 2x5? help. mayday.) and i think it's important that anthony's first impression of her is with her curls and her hair down on that horse ride, where she clearly feels most herself, and that's the impression of her that he clearly carries even after meeting the stricter, walls up version of kate she tries to present him to keep him out. thinking about that makes me fucking feral.

and obviously this keeps going until ep8 and the ball she has her most hair down up do to date, with that one ringlet to the side and in my head it's so like. not fully down, but it is in a way that's like - hopeful? until we're finally in epilogue territory and she's just just got her hair down and curly and she's living her best.

i think it's probably an interesting watch to mark the progression of when her hair is getting tighter and looser, and when she's letting the curls out for and who - i haven't actually watched it with this in mind yet, it was just my general observation, but i'd love if someone did do a scene by scene kate hair analysis, because there's a lot to go off.

my favourite hair of hers is absolutely the side plait, specifically the one in the end of ep5 when she's crying, which is just offensively stunning. but I am also very obsessed with the ep 4 hearts and flowers ball hair. SO PRETTY. i hope we see lots more of her gorgeous curls in s3 now her and anthony are together and happy
