On AO3 I have a series called “daily drabbles” (they are not daily. They are deeply irregular). And the number of times I have received comments THANKING ME for having 100 words (no more, no less), in said drabbles is honestly kinda sad. It’s a writing exercise!! 90% of the time, I’m working very hard to do exactly 100 words, and on the rare occasion that i need to make them longer, I’m working very hard to make them 200 or 300 words (double drabble, triple drabble). Words! Mean! Things!

“Wilson” is an iconic episode for a lot of reasons, but on top of everything else (“if you die I’ll be alone”, “the person you want when your dying isn’t always the person you want when you’re living”, Wilson being the worlds softest marshmallow, Wilson channeling House, the beginning of The Gay Loft Saga), my favourite thing is that because the camera is following Wilson this episode, we have no idea what House’s case is about. We get a glimpse into how insane House and his team much look to the rest of the hospital, how random and out of pocket their conversations must seem from the outside.

also we see so much less of Cuddy because Wilson doesn’t seek her out unnecessarily the way House does.

Another thing about the “you wear fine things well” scene that makes me absolutely insane is that Stede was talking about the silk!!! He’s seen Ed in these clothes all day, but in this moment, he comes across Ed holding this little scrap of silk - he calls it “tatty” and “old” but it obviously means so much to him and then Stede fashions it into a pocket square, this little part of Ed and seamlessly combines it with the outfit that Stede put together for him, and then he says “you wear fine things well”.

saying that this little piece of silk that you have carried for so long isn’t old or tatty, it’s beautiful, and you’re worthy to wear it. It’s a fine fabric and you fancy it and I fancy you and you wear it well because you deserve fine things.

i just cannot even with these two anymore. one line of dialogue and yeah it’s romantic as heck but its also inclusion and acceptance and love and care and saying “I know where you come from and I know what you are and I accept you and I love you , please let me help - please let me keep you safe” and FUCK my standards are ruined forever.

Look I know why it was done the way it was, okay? But I need need need a fic where when Jack mentions how Ed set a ship on fire Ed and/or Stede immediately mentions the ship that Stede set on fire. My boy is a fancy pansy boy, but he is also a fucking lunatic and Jack doesn’t know it. When Jack was on the ship Stede was off balance - gentlemanly hosting said he should be nice and welcoming to this guest, this friend of a friend, but his pirate senses (desire to protect his ship and crew) and protective boyfriend energy was screaming GET THIS MAN OFF THE SHIP NOW!!! He was rather off balance either way. And Jack wasn’t around when any of the cool stuff happened. And I doubt Izzy told him anything posit I’ve, so when he’s berating Ed at the end, yes it comes off as a manipulative (possibly abusive) ex coming back and ruining his current relationship, but (and I am NOT speaking in Jacks defence here) as for as he is concerned Stede is a weak ass piece of fancy boy shit who cannot hold his own, knows fuck all about piracy and is a genuinely boring, gutless little nobody. And for better or worse, by episode eight none of that is true! I need a fic where Jack shows up (same as canon) and everything happens as does, Sede is off balance, Jack is an asshole, etc etc but here that fact that Stede is kinda insane in the weirdest sexiest possible way is worked into the conversation? The ship on fire, the fact that he beat Izzy hands in a duel, he killed the captain of a royal naval vessel, whatever. Stuff to prove that he isn’t just a damp rag. I don’t know how much that would change things but i think it would be a really good story…..and now I want to write it myself. Uuuurhggh.

feel free to use this idea if you want to! Please! The odds of my actually going through on my own are astronomically low and even if I did I’d prefer there to be more than one version out in the world :)
