what is a song they listen to with the windows rolled down, turned all the way up, on the highway?

i don't know who needs to hear this, but guilt, self-hatred and shame are not sustainable sources of growth and healing. you can't hate yourself into feeling better, or being better. you can't repeatedly punish yourself for your flawed humanity and expect wholesome results.

Specific character/ship biases and opinions shown in a passive aggressive or in an... eh, not the best way have probably ruined more characters or headcanons/fanon POVs they're aware of. That, plus they're really one-sided and lame.

My two pet peeve ships in on that are on kan/nao and sou/yo. I added a Read More to this post so if you're not in the mood, you can skip my subjective take.

I used to really fucking like kannao bc of the "fuck your gender stereotypes" energy it had and how it was kinda cute to a past me. Then some obnoxious stans started the yunao vs kannao wars and focused on how X is toxic and that's why other one is objectively better - while ignoring that all protags are teens and make stupid decisions what make that idea in question super hard to work fluently. Add some ridiculous fanon ideas to that, and it's a case of "used to like it, but it exists".

Fanon souyo tends to often have a super weird dynamic and some fic writer fans tend to project a tad bit too much on Yosuke and ignore his character development & SL. I get it, he probably is more performative at first but I'm pretty sure Yu would ALSO have fatigue and not be the mr. Perfect Narukami. These days when I'm reading souyo fics in AO3 it's either specific writers or post-game souyo how my idealist brain thinks it'd form out. The whole "highschool sweethearts moving in to study at one uni and then they were roommates" impression has its appeal to me.

My opinion still stands on how ship wars akin to yunao vs kannao is fucking ridiculous and the fanon idea on that ship has ruined it for me & fanon souyo is a tad bit ridiculous and shows their dynamic in an unflattering light.

She was definitely confused ln Yosuke's logic in his shoes. They stuck out like a sore thumb and didn't gel well with his pants. It was rich for her to judge his fashion, especially when her whole intent was to have an impression of a extragavant and professional adulr instead of a teenager, but it looked what his peers might wear if they didn't focus on getting the most popular brand of sneakers.

Then again, you'd have to pry her platform shoes away from her to get her to not wear them.

"I'll consider that offer, if the shoe sizes are even similar. I don't know how hard it would be to walk in that kind of shoe if it's too large."

The result: the almost kiss

you're unsure about things, always hesitating. why is that? maybe there's something to lose for you, but maybe (just maybe) the risk is worth it. you're the moment when the main characters lean in, lips parted and almost touching. but it's not the actual kiss everyone loves, it's the anticipation. when they look into each other's eyes before their lids flutter close. and there's a lot of frustration when things are interrupted. trust me though, you're a lot more memorable than the actual kiss. you're nervous, but at the end of the day all you want is to be loved.

i'm actually very okay with "there was no other way this could end" endings. if they gotta die, let them die. if they gotta break up or go the wrong way or lose something important, let'em. so long as it completes the story. only thing i dislike more than a forced happy ending is a forced bad ending
