January-February 2024 Sketch Dump
Tumblr media
Another sketch dump, featuring more FNAF doodles.  I have some more of my faves, the Daycare Attendant and Foxy, plus some characters I've never drawn before, DJ Music Man, Circus Baby, and Helpy.
Two of these pictures are basically remakes of old ones.  Foxy is a colorful version of an old Inktober picture I did years ago, and I redid my recent "Sun-glasses" picture, too.  Now Sun looks even "cooler" than ever.  Because we all know that Sun is the coolest guy in the Pizzaplex....  The Eclipse sketch remained un-inked because I already finished that one on Photoshop.
I'd also like to draw attention to my little Sun and Moon drawings on the right.  Sun is snuggling with his Moon plush.  Unfortunately, Moon is a little rougher on his things than Sun is...
Oh, and the Circus Baby on the left ended up with a somewhat misshapen face because my hand slipped while inking.  I didn't know what to do at that point but work with what I had.

FNAF: Eclipse - Hugs for All

I just can't stop drawing my boys! Ahem, just another picture of Eclipse.  When you share a body with two other people, a good way to show you care is by giving yourself a great big hug!

FNAF Sun and Moon Fanfic Update: 4 Chapter Drafts Are Done
Good day, folks, I've been making a lot of progress on my FNAF fanfic starring Sun and Moon, but first...Tumblr's been kind of weird for me lately.  Sometimes, it makes my web browser crash, and then logs me out.  Sometimes within seconds of trying to use it.  I don't know what the heck is going on...
Ahem, anyway, rough drafts of chapters 1-4 have been written and span roughly Sun's first month in the Daycare.  They're not quite ready, though, as I haven't done my final edits yet.  Plus, I keep needing to retcon previous chapters as I write later ones, as I keep getting new ideas or realizing that a certain detail should have been elaborated on sooner.
For the first 3 chapters, Sun won't seem quite as in-character.  As mentioned before, he's a brand new AI, so he's still developing his personality and learning how to communicate with us fleshy humans.  I had a lot of fun writing chapter 4, however, as this marks the point at which I'm more able to embrace Sun's silliness.  I also thought I knew where chapter 5 was going, then I came up with some new and better ideas that require some restructuring, but should be well worth it in the end.
So far, my chapters are rather long and span roughly 5000-6500 words each.  Sometimes, writer's block makes these chapters take a while, then a burst of inspiration comes, and I'm able to write 2000 words in one sitting!
Anyway, I'm very excited to eventually start publishing these chapters, but I really want to make sure they're ready before anyone sees them.  As mentioned earlier in this post, I keep needing to backtrack and change past details.  So once I have the earlier sections of the story more "set in stone", perhaps I can start posting the earlier chapters.
I also just wanted to mention two more things.  One, this story will be published on Archive of Our Own.  And two, Sun is gonna go through some hard times in this story, including abuse.  So just a heads up.  I've got a feeling the staff wouldn't always treat the robots very well, especially ones seen as "less important", like Sun and Moon.  (It actually fits in quite nicely with his clear disdain for staff in Help Wanted 2.  It took me a while to get used to Sun's new personality in that game, but I'm warming up to it.  Finally.)
I'm kind of struggling with chapter 5 and onward at the moment.  While I like my new ideas, I'm having a hard time actually implementing them into the story.  I'm sure I'll figure something out if I just press on....  Also, I'm very excited to finally get to the part where Moon is introduced.  (Sun and Moon can't communicate right away.)  I like my take on his character.  But it might take a while for him to show up, as I think a longer build-up will have a greater impact.  Anyway, that's all for now!

Chapter 1 of My Sun and Moon Fanfic is Almost Done!
A few weeks ago, I wrote a post about a fanfic I’m writing about Sun and Moon from FNAF: Security Breach.  I’ve really been struggling with the story’s opening, but I’m finally starting to make some progress there, so getting this story published in the “near” future is starting to look more and more likely.
Chapter 1 has now been relocated to much later in the story.  So chapter 2 has become the new chapter 1, and I’m rather proud of how it’s coming along.  I want to be careful to avoid filler and make sure that every scene progresses the story, and I’ve managed to pack a decent amount of detail into that first chapter.  Oh, and chapter 1 is already over 6000 words, but there’s nowhere to break it in half!  We start at a very logical opening, Sun’s first day at the Daycare.  Splitting that in half would be weird.
Just gotta get this first section done (maybe spanning a month?), and then I should feel more comfortable publishing chapters.  I’m just struggling a bit because some of the scenes I have planned don’t have a clear order, chronologically speaking.  Especially at first, as Sun is just doing his day-to-day job, so there are plenty of things that could happen in any order.  Instead, I have to figure out which scenes serve my current purpose of progressing more abstract themes…not sure if that makes sense, but I think that explains why I’m having a harder time writing this story than I have others.  I have roughly four things that must be established during this first section of the story.  But now that chapter 1 is close to being done, I should at least have a very solid foundation from which to continue.
Last of all, I wanted to mention that the story is more or less going to be strictly from Sun’s POV.  Except for the original chapter 1, which was relocated for a reason.  At first, Sun isn’t going to be quite as we remember him in the game.  He’s still a new AI and has yet to fully learn how to communicate with humans without coming off as, well, robotic.  But worry not, for soon enough, he will grow into the Sun we all know and love!  It will take a bit more time for Moon to appear in the story, but I’ve already written a lot of future scenes starring the both of them, and I’m liking my interpretation of Moon so far.
So my next order of business: continue the story’s opening and decide on a proper title and summary!

FNAF: A Foggy, Moonlit Night
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yet another spoopy picture of Moon.  I decided to mix things up with some fog.  Some nice, indoor fog.  Someone turned on a fog machine, is what I'm saying.  And Moon's using the cover it provides to be sneaky.

December 2023 Sketch Dump
Tumblr media
This is just a page of sketches that I doodled and colored as best as I could with my markers.  Though I have limited color options, so they're not always as accurate as I would like.  Also, the light pink marker is super moist and likes to bleed a lot.  My favorites are probably Chica and the lower picture of Moon, which I also finished on Photoshop.
The only one deserving of a special mention is the one of Freddy and Gregory.  I thought it would be funny if Gregory was strapped to Freddy like a baby.  In fact, the whole idea is pretty plausible, as Gregory is a very small child for his age.  After all, he fits quite nicely into strollers, so he is clearly toddler-sized.…

2023 Art Summary
Tumblr media
My 2023 art summary...I think I'm improving.  Slowly.  I've been drawing more "finished", less sloppy sketches lately, and it might be helping.  You can kind of tell what games I was playing at different times of the year.  Plus, I clearly got obsessed with FNAF again at the end of the year.

My headcanon is that Sun used to be as kind to the adults as he was to the kids. Then the staff and parents mistreated him for so long that he grew to dislike adults in general. But he'd likely be his usual sweet self to any adults that gained his trust.
But yeah, I still don't see him being actively antagonistic to anyone, though... He could be really OOC in HW2. I feel like someone totally unfamiliar with his character wrote some of his dialogue.
I really hate what they did to Sun :( He's always been such a comfort character to me and many of the fandom.
SB AND Ruin imply he's this big sweetheart, everyone was begging for sweet Sun, and then BOOM.
Sun is horrible. That doesn't even begin to cover it. In his minigame we're a child. A CHILD. And he threatens us, insults us for not being good enough, and makes fun of us, low-key imply he's going to let Moon kill us.
Honestly a large part of my love for him is imagining how gentle he is with the kids he looks after. But he's downright abusive.
I can't even imagine how he would treats kids with learning disorders, mental health problems, SEN etc if he's threatening and being cruel to a kid just for not matching the painting exactly.
Help wanted 2 has ruined him for me completely. He's just an asshole. I honestly thought Steel Wool would listen to fans given that the DCA has SUCH a huge fandom DEDICATED to Sun being a sweetheart, and then they gave us Ruin where he was loveable and soft, and gave us sympathy for Moon.
Honestly fuck Sun.
EDIT:
Yes I know we're likely meant to be a worker in this - in some of the games it's harder to tell as the instructions basically make it sound like we're a guest to the Plex.
Either way, Sun threatening a new worker with death really isn't much better. I loved Sun (as an adult myself) because I believed he would treat people kindly. I mean, Steel Wool KNOW we love them for that. Heck, they have more levels than anyone (including all the Glamrocks combined) and have been revealed to be extremely lore relevent. But for someone who loved Sun as a caregiver figure, seeing his Theatre snark isn't cute. I've seen people say what he did isn't even bullying. ??? He threatens us with death, screams and us, and constantly tells us how bad we are. Yes, he IS bullying. Severely. That's not a former 'actor' thing, that's an asshole thing.

Moon’s Eyes in the Vanny Ending of Help Wanted 2 + Other Thoughts
I’ve been watching Dawko’s playthrough of Help Wanted 2 lately, as I don’t have a VR headset, so I can’t actually play the game myself.  Today, I watched his video showing the Vanny ending after you get the Bonnie mask in Princess Quest 4, and I noticed an odd detail that I haven’t heard anyone else bring up yet.  When you get the Vanny ending normally, Moon has black pupils.  But if you get the ending after getting the Bonnie mask, Moon has red eyes like he usually does in Security Breach.  That’s gotta mean something, right?
I’m still conflicted on what this ending means.  It seems pretty straightforward on the surface, that Vanny is crushing Glitchtrap and freeing herself from his control.  (Glitchtrap even reacts in fear when she does this.)  But then other people theorize that this is Vanny taking Glitchtrap’s place as the new villain, I think?  I must admit I’m a bit confused, as I thought Vanny was just Vanessa brainwashed by Glitchtrap.  So Vanessa getting revenge on Glitchtrap makes more sense than her wanting to get rid of him and continue on his work without him.
Yeah, clearly I’m a bit confused by FNAF lore (aren’t we all), so I’m sure I have some details wrong.  I don’t totally even understand Glitchtrap’s goals or, by extension, Vanny’s.  I thought Vanny probably killed 9 kids before the events of Security Breach.  What was her motivation for this?  Is she killing kids just because Glitchtrap wants her to?  Is there a greater purpose?  I know that Sister Location had all this confusing lore relating to Afton creating the Funtime animatronics to kill kids because of his weird experiments with remnant or whatever.  Because he wanted to revive his dead son.  (Honestly, I really struggle to follow the lore anymore.  When I’m sitting through another FNAF-related episode of Game Theory, I’m typically so confused.)
If Vanny is gathering kids for the same purpose that the Funtimes were basically built for, why would she wish to continue on with Afton’s work independently of him?  Then again, I know that the theory now is that Glitchtrap is related to the Mimic.  Which just makes things even more confusing.  So…what’s the Mimic’s goals, then?  Other people theorize that Vanny’s goal is to get Glitchtrap an actual body.  Again, what would her goal be with Glitchtrap gone?
Anyway, I’m very torn on which theory is more correct concerning the Vanny ending of HW2.  I’d really like it to be representing Vanny freeing herself from Glitchtrap’s control and getting vengeance on him and that this is part of Vanessa’s plan to help Gregory get rid of the Mimic.  But that doesn’t mean my favorite interpretation is right.  Though I do believe it’s more straightforward and less confusing.
As for Moon’s role in all this, if my preferred theory is correct, does that mean that Moon has joined Vanessa and Gregory in defeating the Mimic?  Why?  Does Moon’s presence in the claw machine even directly correlate to Moon or is he representative of something else?  (One theory said Moon represented Gregory, though I’m unsure about this.)  If any animatronic is working with Gregory and Vanessa, I’d think it would be Freddy.
On the other hand, if Vanny is simply destroying Glitchtrap and taking on the role of the new main villain, why is Moon helping her?  Is he doing so willingly or because he’s infected by a virus like many of us assumed?  Because if he’s not infected and is serving Vanny willingly, what is his motivation?  I see no reason why he’d want to willingly join this evil woman’s cause?
Again, there must be some important reason why Moon’s eyes are red in one ending and have black pupils in another.  Red pupils implies a virus and black implies no virus.  But aside from changing whether or not Moon is a willing participant in all this, I’m unsure what other significance there could be.
It is interesting that we seem to have confirmation that Moon has a special role to play in Vanny’s plans.  Many of us, including myself, believed this.  There was always something off about him.  Based on that note about a kid being unable to sleep in the dark after spending time in the Daycare, clearly Moon (and possibly Sun, as the kid wet the bed with the lights on) was scaring kids before the events of SB, even though I don’t think the Glamrocks got infected by the virus until shortly before the game’s events.
Furthermore, even Freddy seemed afraid of Moon.  While he had a hard time accepting that his friends would attack Gregory, he had a much easier time believing that Moon was dangerous, stating that Moon WILL find Gregory if he’s not careful.  He also referred to Moon as “it”, which I thought was odd.  Even in Ruin, Sun/Moon are called “it” rather than “he”.  (HW2 is the first time I can remember either of them being referred to as “he”, and that’s by Sun himself when he says about Moon, “He’ll wake up”.)
Anyway, obviously Moon was acting weird before the events of SB.  I know the books say that Sun and Moon were originally a theater robot, with Moon being the villain of their show, and Moon was never intended to be a part of the Daycare at all.  But…
1: With all the merch and other artwork for both of them (including large statues outside the Daycare entrance and inside the gift shop), it seems Moon was definitely intended to be taking care of the kids alongside Sun.
2: Cassie’s comments about the Sun and Moon plushies in Ruin imply she had fun playing with Sun during the day and found Moon to be a comforting presence at night.
3: It would just be odd if Moon was not reprogrammed from his villain role at all.  I don’t believe that part of his act was telling kids to go to sleep.
What all this means is…Moon clearly was meant to work in the Daycare and oversee naptime, and Sun and Moon were once good at their jobs or else Cassie wouldn’t have had fond memories of them.  So something clearly happened to cause them to start scaring the kids.  And Freddy, apparently.
I must admit that I’m rather biased against the idea of Moon being evil and serving Vanny willingly.  But I also think there’s a lot of evidence to support my idea that Moon didn’t voluntarily assist an evil woman in killing kids.  He seems to have had a more gentle nature when Cassie knew him, and again, there is zero motivation for this robot to help this murdering rabbit lady or whatever the heck Glitchtrap is in whatever the heck their evil plan is.
That’s why my theory was always that Moon was infected by the virus earlier than the other robots.  Maybe as a test subject.  And he was probably chosen because his weird behavior would be less noticeable than that of the Glamrocks, who are the main stars of the Pizzaplex.
Mini Generator Rant: I mean, clearly the staff did notice an issue and put in those generators.  Which are horribly ineffective because the lights still go out every hour.  On the hour.  Even in the Daycare.  Even after you turn the generators on.  And honestly, what’s the point of generators that don’t start up automatically when the lights go out?  What, so the kids are responsible for crawling into the play structures and turning them on?  All five of them?  Which are required to light up one room?  It’s just bonkers, I say!  Bonkers!
Some final thoughts…I have mixed feelings about the implications of HW2’s endings.  While many of us already believed that Moon was working with Vanny, I guess I’m not the biggest fan of having direct confirmation.  I kinda preferred it when this was left open to interpretation.  That’s how I prefer most of my mysteries, really.  I also just hope they don’t confirm that Moon is actually evil.  Because I like Moon, and I’d prefer it if his evil side is due to a virus and not because that’s his true nature.  Plus, I just dislike Vanny, so I’m, naturally, not too fond about one of my favorite characters teaming up willingly with one of my least favorites.
Anyway, those are my lengthy thoughts.  Long story short, I’m just curious if anyone else noticed the difference in Moon’s eyes in these two endings and what that might mean.

The Duck Dreams of a Fortune-Telling Sun from FNAF
The night of December 16, I had a weird dream that was very FNAF-themed.  I think it started with mom and I watching the second Five Nights at Freddy’s movie, though we had our doubts that it would be very good, considering how quickly it was released after the first one.  Then, Mike and Abby from the first movie were in the theater, though the theater was a lot more open now, with seats only sporadically placed, and not terribly dark.  Abby was collecting these blue gems for some reason (probably because I have been playing Kao the Kangaroo lately), but she didn’t want to get caught by this bad man.
I was then in this place that was a mixture of outside and indoors somehow.  Like I remember some indoor seating area with wooden walls and drawers, but then it transitioned seamlessly to outside.  Anyway, I was still looking for these blue gems in every nook and cranny, which seemed like an impossible task.  This included having to go through people’s possessions, which people were surprisingly cooperative about, but which was a rather awkward affair.
At one point, I went to the outside portion of the area, where Sun (from FNAF) was performing on stage for some kids.  He was dressed a bit differently, with blue pants with big yellow stars, a bit like Moon’s, except they weren’t puffy, and he was singing a song.  I guess he and I were friends because, when he noticed me watching him, he gave me two thumbs up to acknowledge my presence, a gesture which I returned.  Apparently he also had some fortune telling abilities, as at the end of his show, he would make a prediction that always came true.  I left to look for more gems, only to wonder if Sun’s fortune telling skills could also allow him to tell us where the gems are.  I tried looking for Sun, however, but was struggling to find him now that he was no longer on his stage.
I was then looking at this computer screen, though I can’t remember why.  It had a list of robots on there, I think, and Moon in particular was causing trouble.  Everytime I clicked on his name in the list, the computer would act up, and then I’d lose track of him again.  Eventually, I managed to read Moon’s entry on the list, and to my dismay, it said that he was scheduled to be decommissioned soon due to bad behavior.  Not only was this bad news for Moon, as I cared about him, too, but this also meant that Sun would be destroyed, as well!  I can’t remember the rest of my dream, but no doubt I was frantically trying to figure out how to alter Sun and Moon’s fate.

I'm Working on a Sun and Moon (FNAF) Fanfic
Hey again, I just wrote a rather lengthy rant concerning the changes they made to Sun’s personality in Help Wanted 2.  So no need for me to address that again.  Anyway, this game’s release has given me a renewed motivation to stop procrastinating and work on my fan fic.  Yes, folks, I’ve been writing a story about our dear Daycare Attendant for the last several months now.  It follows Sun starting from his earliest days in the Daycare, all the way to the events of Ruin.  Plus some backstory before the events of Security Breach.
While I wasn’t super fond of certain new traits they gave to my dear ball of sunshine, I will admit that it’s a little frightening that a lot of Sun’s new personality actually matches my own headcanon for him.  Minus the meanness.  While I definitely prefer Sun as a sweet and kindhearted character, that doesn’t mean that I view him as some perfect little angel incapable of harming a fly.  (Although, he is incapable of harming a spider because he finds it tiny and cute and sees no reason to squish it just because the kids tell him to.)
Going slightly off topic for a moment, I remember reading lots of comments on Youtube in the past where people were curious about how Sun would feel if they wanted to play in the Daycare as an adult.  As much as I, too, would love to just spend the day with Sun (because he’s so darn adorable), I always had this feeling that he would not be particularly happy to see an adult encroaching in his Daycare.  And, well, it seems pretty clear from his interaction with the player in HW2 that my suspicions were correct.  Sun would NOT be happy to play with an adult.  Or a teen, I think.  Then you likely would get the full brunt of his impressive sass until you got the hint and left.  Somehow, he’d probably think this would be the most polite way of getting you to go away.  (Moon, on the other hand, would probably just look you dead in the eyes, then proceed to blatantly ignore your existence.)
Anyway, the Sun in my story is still sweet and innocent and a bit oblivious, but he definitely does things wrong.  In fact, I have plans that he’ll be forced to make some very morally questionable decisions later on.  And even before then, he won’t be above the occasional naughty act or lying.  I see him as the type to be against lying, but he’s not above twisting the truth so that it’s still technically the truth, but also still technically dishonest.  He’s also moody and bossy and controlling, something that will certainly tick Moon off on occasion.
I also feel like it’s a common interpretation that Moon is the smart one and Sun’s a bit dumber.  I prefer to believe that Sun just comes across as less intelligent due to his silly behavior, but he’s actually much smarter than people give him credit for.  Even in Security Breach, he seems to be the only robot aware of the virus, and the dismantled staff bots imply he might even be looking for a solution.  His comment at the start of the carousel level in HW2 actually fits this, too.  He states that, given the training and resources, he could have easily fixed the carousel himself.  And I can’t help but believe him.  He’s probably skilled in fixing himself because he and Moon are likely neglected by staff.  I bet his meticulous nature and attention to detail would make him quite skilled in repairing hardware issues.  This is yet another aspect to him that will be explored much later in the story.
As for Moon, I'm among those who like to believe that Moon was good-natured before the virus, but only to Sun and the kids.  Sure, he's more gruff and mischievous, but he's still good to the few people he cares about.  But he also dislikes adults even more than Sun, and he has zero interest in the other robots.  I'm not sure yet if he's necessarily shy or just couldn't care less.
Heck, he probably just prefers being a recluse.
I definitely like Sun and Moon developing a close relationship (albeit a rather codependent one), which is a very important part of the story, of course.  Though that will take some time, as they aren't inherently able to communicate right away.  I have no idea how the two feel about each other canonically.  I mean, after the virus, Sun clearly fears Moon and Moon hates Sun.  But what about before?  I mean, the two share a body, so I'd hope they'd normally be close, or that would be a serious issue.  Plus, someone is collecting plushies, including ones of themselves.  I'd imagine you wouldn't keep a plushie of someone you hate.
Plus, I just love a good platonic relationship, whether it be friends or siblings.
The story also focuses on darker issues like abuse and more existential types of concerns (similar to Freddy's reaction to being brought down into that one room in Parts and Services).  I just imagine that Sun and Moon are not treated well by staff and certain kids, who see them as an object to be used rather than a person with feelings.  Plus, they aren't seen as nearly as popular as the Glamrocks and would likely be neglected as a result.  Just look at how shiny Freddy and the gang are when SB starts and how dusty and grimy our poor Daycare Attendant is! Give this poor baby a good scrubbing!  Heck, let me in the Daycare, and I’ll do it myself!
Ahem, not to mention the fact that their situation is rather horrifying when you think about it.  They were created for a job they never chose, and they aren't allowed to do a bad job or take a day off.  If they prove to be inadequate, they risk being decommissioned, which is basically death for robots.  Heck, even being reprogrammed could be bad as they could completely lose who they used to be.  And even if they do an excellent job, they're still at risk of being destroyed eventually.  It's only a matter of time, really.  If Bonnie and Foxy could be replaced, Sun and Moon have no reason to feel safe and secure.  I mean, if the Pizzaplex hadn’t closed, who knew how many years they had left anyway?
I mean, imagine having a job where you'll be executed if you choose to quit, didn't perform well, or were arbitrarily replaced regardless of your own actions.  Even if you enjoyed the work, that would be a lot of pressure!
Anyway, I hope to have some chapters ready…eventually.  Knowing me, I often start stories and inevitably leave them unfinished.  This time, I've focused on writing whatever part that interests me at the moment, and as a result, I have substantial work finished in various sections of the story.  And more recently, now that I largely know where it's going, I've been focusing more on the beginning.
Chapter 1 is more or less done, minus final edits.  Seeing as everything up until this point was written before HW2, some details won't be totally accurate.  I'll fix this when I can.  Unless I don’t feel like it.  Chapter 2 is coming along nicely, but I'd like to make a good start into the first chunk of the story before anything is published, to avoid the risk of changing my mind and adjusting details people have already read.
Oh, Cassie appears fairly early on and gets a decent role in the story.  So yay for her! I remember reading a comment recently that Sun seems like he’d play favorites.  Well, guess who his favorite is.  Not much Gregory, though.  Never was a big fan of that child.  Me and Roxy have a similar opinion of him…
When (if) this story ever gets published, I really hope people enjoy my interpretation of Sun and Moon.  I've been very careful to make them well-rounded characters, meaning Sun is definitely not a perfect angel and Moon is not just an aggressive monster.  Not sure how much longer it'll be before I can share this story with the world, though.  Like Sun, I'm a perfectionist and don't want to publish it before it's ready, plus I've been struggling to find the time and motivation.  This story is very important to me, just as Sun and Moon are important to me.  They've been helping me through a tough time in my life.  So…that's all for now!

An Overly Long Rant Concerning Sun from FNAF: HW2
I don’t normally do these kinds of rants, but I wanted to get something very silly and unimportant off my chest.  When I found out that Sun was going to be in Help Wanted 2, I was both super excited to see more of my favorite boy and nervous that they would make some…undesirable changes to him.  I mean, I already knew Moon was going to be in the game, and I wasn’t concerned too much about him, as he’s already aggressive.  And then there’s Sun.  He has a whole minigame dedicated to him.  And I know how these minigames end if you get a game over.  So what…are we finally going to get an actually fatal jumpscare from Sun?  Is my dear, sweet ball of sunshine going to finally outright murder someone when he’s remained one of the only animatronics in the series that never kills you?
Well, in Sun’s jumpscare, he has red eyes, so maybe Moon’s starting to take over at this point?  I dunno…even Glamrock Freddy kills you, and I still love him, so maybe that’s fine.  Plus, one of his quotes implies he remembers you, so canonically, I guess you can lose the game and not die.  Anway, what bothers me the most is Sun’s personality.  I just feel like something is…off about him, y’know.
Most people like that Sun has become more sassy, but I seem to be one of the few people who isn’t too fond of the changes they made to his personality.  I want to make it clear that I don’t have a problem with Sun having depth.  In fact, I prefer it that way.  It’s just that a lot of Sun’s appeal to me was that he was sweet and kind.  He just struggled with anxiety and could get a bit crabby when people don’t follow the rules.  That’s not a flat “perfect angel that can do no wrong” type of character.  It’s just a character with a good heart and good intentions who also has flaws.  Moody and sassy is one thing.  In fact, a lot of this new side of Sun’s personality matches my headcanon for him fairly well.
I mean, I’ve always felt that Sun was the type to give someone the silent treatment if he was especially mad at them.  It would probably be short-lived, but I don’t think he’s exactly above being childish and grumpy, like a normally well-behaved kid who’s had a particularly bad day.
In HW2, Sun getting aggravated when you do a bad job or purposely mess with him makes sense.  That fits the Sun we already knew.  As an example, he gets very aggravated at Cassie if she reaches him in Ruin without turning on even a single generator, saying, “No, turn ON the generators!  Why aren’t you listening?”  (Not to mention an even more obvious example…angrily banning Gregory from the Daycare, an action I have always strongly defended.)  He clearly doesn’t like when his instructions are ignored, which makes sense for someone who needs to keep naughty kids in check.  I mean, of course he’s going to get pretty ticked if he tells a kid not to eat glitter glue, and they do it anyway, just like a parent would get angry at a child for running into the street after being warned a million times not to do so.  It’s his job to keep the kids safe, so if someone is thwarting his efforts to do his job properly, he’s going to get mad, both because he cares about the kids and because it reflects poorly on him.  (Plus, he has the added stress of possibly getting decommissioned if he does a bad job, but the implications of that don’t fit with the scope of this post, so...)
I’m also okay with Sun telling you to go away, both in his sad little song in Ruin and in HW2 because he’s depressed and just wants to be left alone.  Again, that doesn’t make Sun a bad person.  Some people just don’t want to be bothered if they’re upset or in a bad mood.  And a little bit of rudeness is understandable under certain circumstances, and I’d say Sun’s situation, where he’s fighting with a second, very aggressive personality that has full control when the lights are out, makes this behavior very justified.
And sure, I can understand that Sun might be more rude and impatient with staff (though he calls you a “bad kid”, which seems odd as you shouldn’t be a kid, plus I don’t see Sun yelling at the kids and calling them “bad” like that).  I like to think that Sun is sweet and (mostly) patient with the kids (the ones who don’t really push his buttons).  Nevertheless, while some of his dialogue can be dismissed as being annoyed at a grown adult for messing up or doing dumb things that an adult shouldn’t be doing, I can’t get over the fact that some of his comments feel outright…
Mean.  Yes, mean.  I’m okay with Sun being moody, childish, and easily irritated when he’s being ignored or mistreated.  But I never, not in a million years, ever thought that “meanness” would be a trait I’d ever associate with Sun.  But that’s seriously how he came across when he tells you that your art is “bad”, or it “stinks”, or how it makes him “feel dumber” just by looking at it.  That just feels totally uncalled for.  Or his random little line at the beginning of Moon’s carousel level (dude, stop hogging the spotlight; Moon deserves some love, too) where he says that, if it was up to him, he would have fixed the carousel by now.  I know that’s certainly not the worst thing for someone to say.  It just felt totally unprovoked and out of nowhere.  I mean, you had just started the minigame at this point.  Where was Sun’s crappy attitude even coming from?
He’s also rather pretentious in this game, as well, another new trait I'm not too fond of.  I don’t think Sun has to be super humble or even self-deprecating, but this level of arrogance seems more befitting of Roxy or Monty, not Sun.
Maybe I’m nitpicking over a few lines of dialogue when the majority of it doesn’t even contradict the Sun I’ve already had in my head.  It’s just that those certain lines of dialogue feel so very out of character and make Sun look like a mean-spirited, cold-hearted creep when the Sun I thought I knew was sweet and kindhearted and gentle.  (It would be like Glamrock Freddy getting really mean out of nowhere for 10% of his dialogue.  It would be really confusing and jarring!)  I mean, I sure hope he never says any of those things to the kids!  He’d make them cry!
Sun was just my little ray of sunshine.  Even in my headcanon, he was definitely not a perfect angel.  (If you’re interested in a little bit of insight into a fan fic I’m writing, please check out another post I’m writing soon.)  And considering some stuff I’ve been going through in recent months, I really needed a sweetheart like him in my life, even if he’s fictitious.  Now it feels like I’m seeing a decidedly ugly new side of a close friend, making me question who this person was this whole time.
I just read another post that I reblogged where someone was concerned that we’d lose the softer, sweeter Sun that many of us had grown to love.  I had the very same fear.  Just before, I scrolled through countless pieces of new fan art where Sun is being unkind to children over their mediocre art skills.  I know people are just interested in this new side of Sun that we’ve never seen before, but I hope sweet Sun isn’t going away.
This is why I was concerned about Sun’s inclusion in HW2.  Before, we had just a small insight into his character, leaving plenty of room for interpretation.  Now, I feel like his personality is becoming more set in stone, and soon enough, there won’t be any wiggle room left to fill in the gaps unless someone wants to outright ignore canon.  Sure, I can write Sun any way I want, but I prefer him to be as accurate as possible to the games, and now I no longer like canon-Sun as much as I used to.
On a more positive note, a lot of Sun’s new dialogue is very funny, and Kellen Goff delivers them perfectly!  I love his adorable giggles and I'm particularly fond of the lines related to you getting ulcers and indigestion from eating the supplies.  I'm also happy that Sun stands up for himself when you mess with him.  It's good to see he doesn't let people take advantage of him.  I guess I just find it so weird that Sun is surprisingly polite (even if clearly annoyed) when you're purposely bring a jerk to him, and then he gets randomly mean when you simply paint a picture wrong.  Seriously, did someone else write this portion of the dialogue?
Okay, the way I see it, my Sun’s still a good boy.  He’s just not as oblivious as we all were led to believe, as he’s probably more than aware of how crappy adults can be and deeply dislikes them.  I'm just going to believe that he was having a bad day in HW2 and leave it at that.  Because I really want to believe that Sun is genuinely a friendly and sweet guy who loves the kids and just can’t stand adults.  I mean, his little sad song in Ruin definitely implies that he misses the Daycare and doing arts and crafts with the kids.  He himself has clearly drawn a bunch of pictures in glitter glue (I just don’t see those being Moon’s) and has kids’ drawings hanging up in their room. That doesn't sound like someone who hates working with kids or who would look upon a child's drawing, no matter how bad it is, with disdain.
TLDR: Most people prefer Sun’s new sassy personality in Help Wanted 2.  I just felt like he came across as mean, and I don’t feel like it matched his personality in Security Breach and Ruin.  I know Sun can be anxious, childish, and bad-tempered.  I don’t expect him to be a perfect angel.  I just don’t like how mean he can be in HW2, especially when it feels unprovoked.

My concerns exactly!
Ngl with HW2 out I'm kinda anxious for how the DCA fandom gonna go from here cause like. We now have a few more aspects of Sun and Moon personalities, but I'm worried that'll become the main only thing and all the previous soft and anxious and caring etc stuff will vanish and he'be reduced to an asshole only. I don't think this confirms he canonically hates kids or his job or that he's only a jerk.
I know it's up to interpretation but like, I'm just gonna be kinda really sad if this aspect of them is the only thing focused on now and people forget other stuff or just erase how we thought of them before, you know? I'm all for seeing a bit more sass in Sun and stuff, but he still sounds nervous/anxious in certain voiceless I've heard so far, not to mention how he acted in Ruin trying to fix them both while Moon was in pain and stuck and Sun was afraid and stuck.
And like, I still don't think he hates kids I think he's just kinda a bit done. And he even welcomes us back after a jumpscare and stuff, he recognises us! Sure sometimes he sounds tired or kinda like "ugh you're back" but it makes sense he wouldn't wanna deal with more shit after hours lol. Honestly loved his attitude about the crafts it was funny. Not even upset about the shredding because like. It's not like I made that for him, that was an activity I was asked to do so there'd be no reason for him to keep every crafts that gets left behind lol. And he was being so dramatic about it too. He gave me so many vibes of he was finally given the chance to run crafts how he wanted without having to pretend to like every single one like normal. It was fun seeing him sassy and a little rude lol. And bear in mind, despite him calling us a bad kid we are supposed to be an employee in training in a simulation game, where it also needs a "bad ending" if you fail the task. And he's on a time crunch for us to get these projects done before Moon comes out which is when he starts sounding more anxious again. Also wouldn't be surprised if he was a little affected by the virus, especially since it glitches out what your supposed to be making occasionally.
Maybe it's silly to be worried like this idk
