Scientists at UC Riverside have demonstrated a new, RNA-based vaccine strategy that is effective against any strain of a virus and can be used safely even by babies or the immunocompromised.
Every year, researchers try to predict the four influenza strains that are most likely to be prevalent during the upcoming flu season. And every year, people line up to get their updated vaccine, hoping the researchers formulated the shot correctly.
The same is true of COVID vaccines, which have been reformulated to target sub-variants of the most prevalent strains circulating in the U.S.
This new strategy would eliminate the need to create all these different shots, because it targets a part of the viral genome that is common to all strains of a virus. The vaccine, how it works, and a demonstration of its efficacy in mice is described in a paper published today in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
“What I want to emphasize about this vaccine strategy is that it is broad,” said UCR virologist and paper author Rong Hai. “It is broadly applicable to any number of viruses, broadly effective against any variant of a virus, and safe for a broad spectrum of people. This could be the universal vaccine that we have been looking for.”
not to be insensitive but some of the salem witch trials were so funny bitches like “i saw her at the devils sacrament!!!” girl… what were YOU doing at the devils sacrament 👀
Crimson rules the land, Black rules the waters, White rules the heavens, and green rules a territory larger than land, water, and heavens combined: the heart of a child.
I’m so tired of every show that takes place in the past (wild west, medieval, pirates etc) ALWAYS having so much sexual violence towards women like writers can cry “oh it’s realism” all you want but it’s very transparent how realism only applies when you want to hurt women on screen. If we’re talking staying realistic, why doesn’t everyone have brown teeth? Or bad skin? Or dying of dysentery? Just admit y'all want an excuse to brutalize women on screen lol
There is no possible reality where this is in any way capable of being passed off as self-defense. It was never self-defense. It is, and always has been, a genocide.
Crying babies. Crying babies. This is, beyond a shadow of a doubt, meant to draw out and kill civilians while also making it far more difficult to locate and aid children who are trapped or alone.
If you have money to spare, please consider donating to some of the fundraisers on Operation Olive Branch to help people escape this genocide.
The funniest moment in The Untamed, hands down, is Wen Zhuliu realizing his drink is drugged, considering saying something, deciding "Fuck it I'm not paid enough for this shit" and drinking it anyway
and to build on that: his friend confesses his feelings for him. and he. just doesn’t answer ??? it’s already three months later and he has said Nothing in response. how????
possibilities:
1. incompatible orientation. Doesn’t seem super likely because Xue Meng was already assigned straight larry by MR. but it could happen
2. this was a big surprise and he has to think/asses his feelings for a million years
3. Shi Mei Knows Something. i really want this to be the reason. I want him to know something about the past life, or something about the future. this would be by far the most interesting reason.
4. Shi Mei likes someone else. this one is highly unlikely because the 4 main characters seem to hang out with nobody but one another, so there aren’t many options on the table for him to like.
5. Shi Mei thinks that protag likes the love interest. this one is not as unlikely as #4 but is still pretty unlikely because i do not think his perception stats are that high
shi mei is, by far, the most mysterious character in this book to me. we get plenty of the protag’s thoughts, and some of the love interest, and a bit from the cousin. Like okay, they have motivations that make sense. but what the hell is going on with this boy? /why/ is he like this?
when everyone was getting telepathic temptations we heard everyone else. like ‘kill you rival’ or ‘kill your cousin’ but all we got for this princess is ‘i know/can give you what you desire’ Oh, Old Ass Tree? You do? I sure as hell don’t!
