please kill this idea that just because a female character is not physically strong and does not physically fight that her very existence is, by default, a sexist portrayal of women in media.

the “damsel in distress” trope is only harmful when that aspect of the character is all there is to the character. if the writers give attention to her backstory, her feelings, her struggles, and her development, then she’s not a faceless prop just being used for male empowerment. she’s a person. a person who happens to not fight.

there’s nothing wrong with that. and to push this notion that this is somehow bad and wrong and that women should never need saving, even in war and crime fiction, is ludicrous. it swings the pendulum too far in the other direction and creates the problem of only showcasing women who are physically fit, or butch, or masculine.

people come in all shapes, sizes, temperaments, and ideologies. stop worrying about stupid tropes and focus that energy on questioning whether or not a character is actually well-written and cared for by the author instead.

Basic: Sonic must learn to not take his friends for granted (even though he never does so in the games so what's the point)

Advanced: Sonic must learn that Eggman is even worse than he thought

For context, it's true that Sonic has always treated Eggman seriously as a threat, as evidenced by how quick to act he is and how he's apathetic to the doctor's situation or safety after every thwarted scheme, but I've always felt the moments where he really gets dead serious with Eggman are too few and fleeting in comparison to such highlighted moments with other villains, like Erazor and Merlina. This ends up adding to the fandom's bias that Eggman is a harmless joke despite all evidence to the contrary, and while that's entirely on the fans, it's still a migraine I have to deal with.

So of course, in true Stellar fashion, I decided to weaponize it and turn it against everyone, because who says spite must always be bad as long as it's not too soapboxy. With the later, darker moments in Stellar, I want them to be just as shocking for Sonic as they're intended to be for the reader. Not that Sonic will act uncharacteristically, or that said moments and the contents of such are inappropriate in their subject matter for this universe (that wouldn't make sense coming from someone who has made it known that he despises the True Art Is Angsty mentality), but it's meant to serve as both an in-universe and out-of-universe case of "I knew Eggman was sick of losing, but this...?"
